[q] 3rd party keyboard problems stock email app - T-Mobile LG G3

I have noticed that 3rd party keyboards in the stock email app seem to have problems with the first letter following a period. SwiftKey seems to pause awkwardly and break my word. Fleksy tries to autocorrect everything past the first letter. (eg. If I type have after a period it keeps the h and tries to correct ave to ace, leaving hace)
Is anyone else experiencing similar problems. I'm actually quite fond of the stock email app otherwise.

[Q] Cannot input text

Recently I have been having a little trouble with inputting text on my lovely little G2. I can't remember a specific moment when it started, a new app that I may have downloaded, or even an app update that would have affected this. (Perhaps the new cover on it has ruined everything... curses!) j/k
Here's the hitch: I can't type anything on my phone. I can't enter text with the stock Android keyboard or with Swype. I can't type in text to email, text messaging, gtalk, or a browser search. Turning the phone off and on results in temporary superior performance. But alas, it just doesn't stick.
Any suggestions?

Hmm, that's rather odd. Try to do a battery pull?
Try downloading some sort of keyboard from the market. Maybe it'll work if you use a third party keyboard.
... Also are you rooted?

Can't send SMS using any third party app

I keep trying to use a third party SMS app, because I'm hardly a fan of the stock! It seems, though, that I can't send a message from a third party app - I've tried both ChompSMS and GoSMSPro, but both will fail upon attempt. Almost instantly too. I have the logcat from Chomp here https://gist.github.com/1058515 if anyone's interested. I've been poking at it a little, but can only stare for so long when I don't know what I'm looking for really.
I searched briefly and didn't find much anywhere on this matter, perhaps I'm doing something wrong?
Thanks for any assistance
**EDIT** I sort of figured it out... They don't handle the +1<Phone number> That was tacked on the front for the country code. Not sure why that is or if there's any remedy without deleting all the +1s
**EDIT2** Handcent FTW, handles this all correctly, somehow better than others? Not sure what they could've done to screw it up for me specifically, never heard of this issue elsewhere and my old Droid Eris worked fine with all of these applications, besides being slow!
Been using textsecure without fail so far.

messaging bugs

This happens about many times a day when I choose a contact from my past messages it opens a totally different contact that may or may not have been visible in the list. Also occasionally when i am typing it double types part of the word so if I type "really" it might be "reareally". Anyone else get this?
Which ROM? Have you tried using an alternative app?
I am using stock 2.3.3. I just downloaded handcent and it seems to work good so far. Its no big deal , just curious.
I had that issues with the stock ROM as well. I use Handcent as well and don't have that issue.
That said, it appears to be an issue on the Thunderbold too. Apparently Verizon and HTC are aware about it, according to what my VZW rep has told me.
Thanks for the infomation.
that is a problem with android, not HTC. Google has acknowledged the problem but there has not yet been a fix released.
Nope, doesn't seem like it happens on AOSP Android. My cousin has the sensation and the double word thing happens to me and him. We just use handcent.

I can't say that I ever had that issue with AOSP. I used Handcent most of the time then anyway because I preferred the interface to AOSP.
Never had this issue on cm7. I get weird errors too. For instance, if I type in landscape and send it then go portrait the last word I typed is shown. Sometimes after I reply to a message the message I sent shows as new. Unacceptable.

It is definitely a bug that has plagued android for a long time. Here is a post where you can read about the different bugs that Android SMS has. Once again, this is not specific to HTC devices. I used to experience this same problem on my fascinate.

yeah i get that bug where you see a text you recently sent as a reply and the threat still has an unread.

[Q] G3 oddities

Generally very happy with new G3 (on Optus network in Australia), but two weird things driving me nuts.
1. With several apps open, hit the home button. All good, end up on home screen. Then hit the open apps button and it says 'No recent apps'. Repeat above steps and now it shows all those running apps and you have an enabled option to Clear All or can individually swipe them off.
Any one else seeing this. Never saw this with Nexus 5 I just lost and replaced with G3.
2. The keyboard entry on the Nexus 5 (if I recall correctly) worked pretty much the same for emails as it did for say SMS messages or Hangouts messages. i.e. if you had a bad typo you could position back into the word and all suggested corrections appeared to allow you to replace the typo. This is how SMS/Hangouts works but seems other text entry functions don't do this correction process the same way. Is it up to each app developer to control how this works or do they all use the common keyboard text entry 'widget' or control??
3. Hangouts. Seems that all of a sudden (probably an app update?) Hangouts (which I have selected as my default messaging app) tries to send a Hangouts message instead of a regular SMS. This is fine if the received has Hangouts activated on their device/account, but many of my contacts don't and I've suddenly realised they what I thought were SMS messages sent correctly have just gone into the ether. So step by step, if I go to Hangouts, search for a contact, select contact and start typing, I can see that it is telling me it's sending a Hangouts message, not an SMS. If instead I explicitly scroll in Hangouts through my contacts, and select one, it pops up their contact details and I get the option to select a message icon. When I now get back to start typing the message, it now shows the mobile number it will SMS (not Hangout message) to. This works fine, but is different behaviour to a week ago.
For all of the above, apologies if I simply don't understand the apps or OS fully yet. Learning ...
You can either clear all of swipe each to kill the app.
The stock keyboard sucks in my opinion. I use the Google keyboard without any issues.

Thanks - but my issues is that it says no active apps, and the Clear All button is greyed out. Repeat the process and now the apps which I know are open, are all there. The question is why first display of apps thinks there is nothing there.

Install a 3rd party keyboard, then set your new keyboard to be the default keyboard. Now restart your device and Disable the stock keyboard with something like titanium backup, reboot once more to be sure it is gone and notice how much smoother everything is... Most lag disappears... Just goes to show how crap the stock keyboard really is...

I've noticed this as well, only ever happens when I have more than a couple of apps open, it's like the phone fails to register what apps are open or something, but as you said if I try doing it again, they appear there open
Very strange, probably just a bug or something that will be fixed in a Firmware update...

Yeah me too. Even after complete restore to stock.
Recent app menu is some funny bug.
And about your keyboard. I'd ditch it for google keyboard and lag will be gone.

Yeah I caved to pressure today and switched to TouchPalX. I've had it for years but decided to give the default LG keyboard a go, but after today's update I just gave up. Now, I've never had a smoother typing experience in my life!

[Q] Cyanogenmod 12 Stock App Issue

Hello everyone,
Relatively new Android user here. I've been running Cyanogenmod 12 Nightlies on my Sprint HTC One m8, and for some reason, I cannot seem to get the messaging or email apps to work properly.
When I set CM Messenger as my default texting app, I can receive messages just fine, but when I go to send, it's as if the sending button is disabled. From what I can tell, setting Messenger as the default texting app should enable the send button, but that's simply not the case for me. The only info I've been able to find online said that Voice + caused this problem, but I think that was specific to CM 11. I don't recognize any apps on my phone that would be the Android L equivalent of Voice +.
As for Email, whenever I try to connect my gmail account, I get a message saying that verification couldn't be completed because the password is wrong. After this, the app closes automatically, and upon reopening it, the app seems to be hung up on syncing but never actually does anything. I've tried linking my account both automatically and manually — both methods yield the same result.
The odd thing is that 3rd party messaging and email apps work just fine. I've been using them as a workaround, but I'd really like to use the stock apps if possible! And aside from that, I'm totally stumped and would really like to figure out what is causing this issue. Any insight you could provide would be very much appreciated!

Update: I got the email app to work — I had the sync parameter set to never because I like to manually retrieve my mail, but it seems like that completely stops the app from syncing at all. It's still a little buggy, but at least it's working. Still no fix yet for SMS app.....

You can try bringing this up in the CM12 thread or download a 3rd party sms app

Hello,
Thanks for your reply! I have been using a third party sms app for the time being, but I'd still really like to figure out what's causing this issue. Call me a glutton for punishment I've searched a lot on XDA for a specific cyanogenmod Q&A, but I'm new here, and I'm finding the search interface a bit confusing. Could you post a link to the specific thread you're referring to?
