This may sound ridiculous, but I'm looking for a simple screen off app. There are a ton of Screen Off and Lock apps all over the Google play store. I just want to be able to hook up an app to the double tap gesture in Apex Launcher so the screen turns off but DOESN'T lock. I'd like the phone to use the default "lock after x minutes" system setting that i have set.
Q: "Can't you just hit the power button?"
A: Sure I can. But I grew accustomed to the double tap to sleep gesture of the LG launcher and would really like to emulate that with Apex if possible.
Considering the feature appears to be missing from all of these types of apps the site I wonder if it's somehow not possible. But I figured I'd check here before I give up and possibly attempt to write such an app myself.

App called screen off. I'm using it for nova launcher. For my double tap.

I tried that and it locks my screen each time. Unless I'm an idiot and not using it properly somehow. (Which is very possible)

You should be able to double tap the notification bar to turn off the screen as well without any app. It should work with Apex since I'm doing this with Nova Launcher. Didn't realize there was there was an app though, gonna try this out!
If you go into the settings of Apex or Nova in the gestures. Find the double tap, Select activities and you find the screen off app. Select it, and bam you've got your double tap for screen off back.
Edit: not sure if you can set it to not lock the phone down though. I missed that part of the original post. Lol my bad. I'll look to see if I can figure anything out on that.
Edit #2: I couldn't find anything. Screen off and lock app has an option for this for certain versions of Android. Unfortunately not for kit Kat though : /

In all my trials last night, I think I found one app that turns the screen off without immediately locking the phone. But it worked through a widget, so the double tap gesture didn't work. I know it's possible, so all isn't lost.

That's what I have set up in Llama (see next post).
Then under Settings > General > Security > Phone Administrators, make sure Llama is checked. This gives it permission to turn the screen off. Then in the gesture settings for Nova, select shortcut, then Llama shortcut, and select the event you made.

I'm confused at what you're trying to accomplish. What we did was allowed Nova to be able to double tap to sleep like with the default launcher. That doesn't affect the lock screen in anyway. If you want to bypass the lockscreen when waking the device, you'll need to use knock code as tour security.

The OP mentioned it.
So if I use the LG launcher (home) if you double tap it, the screen turns off. I have it set to 10 minutes and the lock screen will appear, knock code or pin or password screen. So if i double tap to turn on the screen within the 10 minutes, it will go straight to the home screen, if after the 10 the lock screen appears.
With Nova, we have to use a 3rd party app like screen off and lock or what you're using Llama, but we want the function of still not locking the screen within the 10 minutes. hope that explains.
If there is a solution that'd be great, if not, i'll just deal with using the knock code each time.
Go to lock screen settings under display and uncheck "power button instantly unlocks."
I think that's what you want.

I think the G2 guys could have taken this one cue from the iPhone and other phones. I'm really hoping this is something we can add after root is available.

No legendary is right. Widget locker fixes this well enough.
Just disable the notification icon and in advanced settings check "wake up with any button press".
As far as I can tell the only draw back is having to slide the bar to unlock and then having to enter ur unlock pattern if u have one.

I used it on my Vibrant. It was kind of buggy at times. Though, I'm not sure if that was the app, or the phone.
No its the app. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't...
Another trick
If you are holding the phone in your left hand (as I mostly do), use the trick that someone posted in another thread-- Just snap the keyboard open about 1/4 of the way. It will wake and unlock in one super-quick step. It can be done in the right hand, too, just not quite as easily.

You really have to tweak settings to make it reliable... took me a bit. Hiding the notification makes it less reliable by their own admission. I have it working fine now though.

awesome - thanks for this, i'll be giving it a whirl!
[EDIT] i just tried it out, tried many different settings (including those suggested) and couldn't get it to work more than a few times. alas, that's more frustrating than helpful, so til it's fixed i've uninstalled. thanks for trying to help out though - i really do want trackpad wake.
^ ditto. It was reliable for a while then became sporadic
This should be an app fixable thing as opposed to needing root though. I will wait I suppose.
I really want this feature too, but I don't want to have the phone wake when pressing the vol/camera keys. Is there somewhere we can request this in the next software update from T-mobile / HTC? I assume this is not remediable without rooting otherwise. I'd prefer not to root my phone just for this one feature.
i haven't tweaked any settings and my trackpad now wakes the phone up every time. I say now, as it didn't do it consistently until i un-installed a live wall paper i had (Thunderstorms) - a couple of other issues vaporized when i un-installed that app
neat wallpaper though - the developer is supposed to be working out the bugs for use on the G2

Hahhaha! Don't ask tmobile or htc for help. They'll just lock it down more. I have a headache from trying to get root access working. This nand lock really sucks! Sorry a bit off topic, I guess.
So now that we've got full root, is there a quick, simple and reliable way to wake the phone by pressing the trackpad button (i.e. wake to the unlock screen, not fully unlock).
[Edit: Found it, works perfectly on my Desire-Z, needs root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=830806]

Hi trying to free up room and get priority shortcuts in Nav bar. Anyone know how to open the app drawer from the Nav bar? Opening apex itself obviously not. I've looked in activities as well but nothing

It doesn't go on the nav bar, but WavLauncher will complete this function. You set it up how you want it to be brought up - my app drawer opens if I hold my finger in the right spot for 2 seconds. It's not a launcher replacement either, even though it sounds like it, you still use whatever launcher you choose.

You probably have to leave it running as the default launcher (similar to WidgetLocker even though it's not actually a launcher) which has always caused nothing but problems for me.

It uses the persistent notification trick to stay in memory. Which I love in apps since I can just go into app info and uncheck the box to "show notifications for this app".

I guess I should have specified that it doesn't open up the regular app drawer, but it's own built in app drawer, which functions the same. I guess that could be a deal breaker.
Other than that I'm pretty sure you can set up a shortcut or rather an icon on the home screen that opens the actual real app drawer. For sure Nova has this option if stock doesn't.

On some roms with built in navagation bar tweaking you can set apex actions as a shortcut on the navbar which brings up the app drawer.
Black bean and sourcery roms work for me when doing this

Sourcery ROM has an option that allows you to hide to nav bar and all you do it swipe up on it to bring it back up. Here's a pic with the normal setting and one with the hidden nav bar enabled. I HIGHLY suggest Sourcery rom. Its available for all GNex variants, and imho, its the most stable and customizable rom out. And it has the best developer support out of all the roms I've flashed. Don't get me wrong, 99% of the roms I've flashed from XDA are bad a$$, and the devs are great, bit Sourcery is my rom of choice.
Edit: and you can add a soft key to your nav bar and select the option for it to open an app of your choice, including the app drawer.
Hi guys,
Does anyone know how to get a third party lock screen like go locker to work to replace the stock lock screen? I can get it to work but it runs on top of the stock lock screen, which means I have to unlock twice ?
Any help would be great. I'm not rooted.

Maybe you can disable the normal lockscreen?
There seems to be no way to disable it
Sent from my SD4930UR using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You can set automatic lock time to a high value (maybe higher with an additional app) and disable lock at button click.
A look screen which worked for me is mentioned in my guide at the bottom ('make fireos looks and feel like...')
Happy Christmas!
I tried slidelock, but the original lockscreen won't stay away, even after trying all the options... I only want a different lockscreen or app for my notifications really as they don't stay on the lockscreen :\
I really hate Lock screen :crying:
Use es explorer to rename *lockscreen apks in ./system/apps to .apk.exe.
Or you can just delete them.
The only one you shouldnt change is the lockscreen.apk, if you do then the home button and voice control stop working.
you have to be rooted though.
Hope this helps.
Next lock screen works and seems to over ride Amazon lock screen without having to disable it.

Well I can't answer that sadly. But you've proved one of my points earlier which was that next doesn't display properly on fire phone. Your first shot shows the top row of pixels on the icons at the bottom of the screen. It should and does show two full rows of icons on all other compatible phones.
I've just tried the app called start from play store. It has under advanced settings an option to make it default home and then let's you choose your launcher. I've also frozen lock screen apk, and now everything works ok. The start button issues I had when just freezing lock screen are resolved.

I wouldn't say Next doesn’t display properly on the Fire phone, as others aren't having the same issue. It may have to do with how you have your settings configured, but Next works perfectly for me. I have no idea why you see icons at the bottom. I'm using Nova for my launcher with no problems. In phone settings, I have lock method as none and set to lock immediately on screen off and I only see Next since there is no lock method set for system settings.

Actually, I would say next doesn't display properly on fire phone. Poster #14 above proves my point. See the first screenshot? With only a couple of pixels visible of the icons at the bottom of the screen? Well, that's a display bug whether you like it or not. It's supposed to show a row of full icons at the bottom. I guess If you've never tried next on another phone you might not understand.

Bingo, I read your post, but it doesn't change anything in my phone. For some reason, it doesn't work in my Fire Phone. FP screen lock is always displayed after unblocking NLS.

I've checked Hide checkbox in NLS Settings inside Status bar mode
I've disabled Screen Lock both in NLS and System settings

Hide Dirty and Misused Apps
Android Apps are cluttering the App drawers and reducing the productivity of App drawers. Now in Nova launcher hide all the unused Apps from the App drawer. To call back any apps you can use inbuilt app search function in Nova launcher to reach even hidden Apps. Cool right?
You can find these settings at Nova Settings > Apps & Widget drawers > Drawer groups section > Hide Apps
Two-paged Dock
This is me personal favorite setting in Nova launcher. It is great experiences having 2 pages in your home screen dock. In here I can have 2 rows of Apps of my choice. To access different pages just swipe the dock and you are in the new row.
To access this tweak go to Nova Settings > Dock > Dock pages.
Gestures
If you are a Nova Launcher fan surely you might be well aware of awesome gestures it has. But everyone just misses one secret gesture. It can be integrated with above tweak too. Just long tap an icon and select Edit options. Set swipe action to any specified app or App search. I personally prefer App search for the home button.

That's not a bug, it's related to the way android OS works.
That is why I love this phone, you can set the capacitive buttons to turn off the screen with a double tap or long press and the fingerprint scanner still works.

After Restart or if device was locked by 3rd party app you need to unlock device by pin. Fingerprint is not an option at the moment. It's MM feature. It can be bypassed by Fingerprint enabler xposed modul.

I use nova launcher and set a double tap gesture to launch a screen off app. I wish using only fingerprint to unlock or wake was an option
You could also just put a shortcut for the screen off app on the home screen.
Is there a way to do this while keeping the pixel launcher? I tried a couple of apps, but it required me to put in my pattern unlock when waking the phone with the fingerprint reader.

Hmm that's strange...I only have a fingerprint to wake and unlock all at once...what you're saying sounds redundant...

I believe if you use a 3rd party app to turn the screen off, you are always required to unlock by means of pin/password or pattern depending on what you have setup.

hmm I tried removing the app and restarting. Same thing. I wonder if it's different between phones. I ordered my 128 XL from Google and am running build NDE63V on Project Fi

On the first boot you will always be required to enter pin etc as well, after that you should be fine with the app removed

Yeah I seem that, I'm rooted, I might do that in a little, only had the phone for a few days and wanted to see what the stock kernel was like..seems to work pretty well with that exception...it would be good to jus swipe to sleep or something like that...avoid using the power button as much as possible
