HTC announced the wildfire S today which has close specs to the Hero. It has gingerbread sense ui and has a 600 MHz processor and a 3.2 inch screen. So I'd it possible we can port a rom of it to the Hero?
Sent from my HTC Hero CDMA using XDA App
Just FYI, 600 MHz on one phone is not the same as 600 MHz on another phone. The CPU in the phone you speak of is at least one generation newer than what we have. Read here for more details

Basically it will probably be very difficult to port. nfinitefx and others tried very hard to get a stable port of the original Wildfire, and that was hard enough.
Possible on Wildfire not s?

Well i don't agree that it can not be ported to our wildfires.the kernel can be modified with the right drivers for our wildfires when i will have time and the sources will be available i will work on it.but the worst part would be the resolution i think.
I think that the best phones for porting Wildfire S ROM-s are Legend and Aria (Gratia) because both phones have more/less the same hardware specifications

i think all devices with android will be unlocked
More likely that devices they update will have the unlocked loader, not old devices..Why would they bother? Too much hard work! No profit from doing it! Much the same as there usual update methods (2 updates is enough for the consumer)

Well what they do is just add wee bootloader code to Android 2.4 and that's it (yes Wildfire S will get 2.4 update for sure)

Ummm.....the original Wildfire was rooted ages ago (Unrevoked).
I'm not sure about Alpharev S-OFF, but root - no probs with the original.
Maybe you had another device in mind when you posted. ;-)
ROM Capacity
Hi all,
Please , can somebody tell me if he has a more information about Android and especially Widfire S. I just be a proud new member to Android operation system change from Windows mobile . On specification Wildfire S has a 512MB ROM and 512MB RAM. So the question is , why after reinstalling Android OS( Hard Reset ) from this 512MB i had only 124MB free space for installation program.
What should I do to increase ROM free space.
Thank you in advance.
Because that has to include the base ROM and all of the applications that it's running. HTC sense takes up a lot of space.
best to unlock, root and tear out a bunch of that bloat.

I've been trying to get info from HTC about a possible update, at least to 2.3.5 but the guys at tech support are too vague and didn't even reply to bug reports I sent them. I have the latest European RUU and it has some problems with force closes after installing apps from Market, gave the guys all my phone info, yet still they don't know if there are plans to upgrade the phone.
However they promise that they'll let me know as soon as they know something and also say that they want to guarantee the best possible user experience.
I guess ICS 2.4 would be perfect. Now that it's officially released I suggest HTC to Get on their Boots (like U2 would say lol).
The WFS has enough hardware to run ICS so what are they waiting for?
I've had so many phones from HTC and even QTek (former HTC) that I expect some level of commitment on their part.
Sorry for the long post. Needed to uncompress my thoughts... ;-)
ICS is currently Android 4.1 not Android 2.4. But yes WFS can run gingerbread and so can run ICS also.
I'm now the proud owner of a wildfire s with .9gb (yes 900mb) of system memory after install. The new roms are kicking!

hi guys i am a new one and my english not very good, sorry
i need help
i bought an htc wildfire s in last week
i dont want to use htc sense, i want to use normal android
can i install a rom which include only android 2.3.4? would it work stable?
if the answer is no, how i abrogate sense ui when i am using default rom?
i tried a method (it's for wildfire, not s);
'clearing htc sense's defaults in settings menu and pressing home'
but it's not working for wildfire s
thanks for your help
It's possible, first though you need to have your phone rooted, I assume you still have S-on so you would need to use the XTC clip. Then install a ROM without Sense, at the moment there is none, but hopefully Cyanogenmod will be ported over to the Wildfire S.

I wish some of you members would be a little more polite to people. Yes they are asking a question that has been asked a few times, but so what? This forum is for helping people.
By the time you have insulted them you could have posted a helpful answer and been the saviour of the thread
Download the file again, chances are you're using the old version which needs the OLD beta key
do it with revolutionary........before using it properly install htc desire(with htc sync) drivers, adb drivers(if on windows)...google for the drivers....uninstall the htc sync....then run revlutionary ...and the beta key is 3EOf1E7vN1CEe1XJ...rooted my desire with official gingerbread....now on miui....the link for revolutionary is http://revolutionary.io/.....
link for adb drivers is http://rexton270.wordpress.com/2010...ndows-hboot-driver-installation-instructions/
I just rooted over the weekend, i used Revolutionary tool, and used the HTC Fast Boot Drivers that are linked on that site. Nothing else.
Everything the loaded up fine, after that i was able to just go into Recovery and install a custom ROM.
yah!!
Revolutionary would do it. Then revolutionary have an SU patch zip file you can run through Recovery, Install zip from SD. Then you can root original 2.3 on Desire

I received a Wildfire S (HTC Mavel) from a friend. It has 2.2.1 installed. Like to replace it with a 2.3.x rom. Couldn't find any available rom nor instructions how to create one for this device.
Question: Has anyone tried the rom meant for Buzz on a Mavel?
There's a wildfire s section in these forums, I can't get you the link as the PC is at the other side of my room, it's early and cold so I'm not getting outta bed......
I haven't seen any posts about a buzz rom working on a wildfire s, maybe you could be the first?
Try clicking on the little home sign near the top of the page if your on a computer, if your on a phone app click forums at the top and scroll down till you see wildfire s section.

Shouldn't it have come with Gingerbread already Installed? I remember it had 2.3 installed before it was launched, since the Barcelona Mobile Phone Congress...
If not, you can OTA update it...

Mine is running 2.2.1 and is pretty messed up. The WiFi does not work either. Which is why I want to try updating it to 2.3 - perhaps with an aftermarket ROM with source that I can play with
Well better try on the Wildfire S forum section.
If I were you I would Factory Reset> OTA Update to Gingerbread and not use any custom RoM.
It is just me...I prefer sense

I lost it on bus. I might get a new One S(S4) later or save more money to get HTC M4. I can't decide it at right now, I will stick with One V for 3 ~ 6 months but I won't sell it out, will transfer it to my parents probably.
Well, for the price of One V the camera indeed is excellent. The mainly problem is HTC only provides the most optimized camera drivers for One X/S because they are flagship models. The sense4.1 + 4.0.4(ViperRom) on my One S got noticeably better image quality over my One V with sense4.1 + 4.0.4(mySENSE-v RC3.5) ported from Desire X+One SV. I guess the drivers in Desire X+SV worse than One X/S.

Forget to mention, I think port JB from Desire X to One V is still possible. I remember when I had One S, people can be flashed the sense JB even they are with the very old hboot. But we'll need some guys to test it and it may brick the phone.... lol

No. At that time(2012 Dec), One S didn't has S-OFF yet. It got S-OFF only at around Feb.
I just checked the Desire X board, they said with old hboot(ICS) have no problem to flash sense JB but there need to use some special ways.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2249760
check #3
Part 3 - Installing boot.img and booting your DX
7. Open the ICShboot_Toolkit folder and run the Install Boot.img.bat
Just ignore what is written in the CMD as the boot.img is actually is installed to the recovery partition as the ICS boot partition is too small to be written with JB boot.img
8. Press Power once to go to hboot and select Recovery to boot your device
9. Enjoy your newly flashed JB ROM on ICS hboot
All in all, we will loss TWRP(can't mount, install stuffs and backup/restore) because recovery partition is used for JB boot partition now(we'll also need to choose recovery to boot the phone everytime) and there is a bug in JB since it doesn't mount the sdcard with this way installed but we can install multi-mount SD card app on PlayStore to fix this problem. Later time, if you want to go to TWRP again(for example, do a rom backup) you'll need to fastboot flash recovery twrp.img via fastboot and after do the backup, flash this ICShboot_Toolkit on recovery again.
So, now all we need to do is wait ckpv5 to port Desire X JB for us. Can't wait to get the full power of camera again.
Ckpv5 will port only if he wants to, so, good if he will but no one go ask him, he is already busy with my one v and my sense.
also i think if it was possible he would have at least told us. Probably desire X has something we dont have..
