I went into all ATT, BestBuy and RadioShack around the town and none had LG Nitro. In BestBuy they don't even have a mokup and guy I talked to thought the phone is not out yet.
So I was wondering, why is that? Maybe it's because the phone is so f.up hardware wise, and we should expect a recall?
AT&T is being quite funny about the Nitro. I ran into the same problem with it in Boston when it came out. No one had a display model or stock. I had to call around to 5 stores before I found one. No clue why that is.
Why what's wrong with the Nitro hardware-wise?
The AT&T store is the only one local that has it in stock. I bought mine at Best Buy, but it was a special order. Dunno why they aren't pushing the Nitro. What is messed up hardware wise?
Broken compass is a huge blow (for me), mic in headset that works on 4 different android phones doesn't work on nitro, notifications also don't play through headset.
Horrible battery life if you use phone more then just keeping it in standby. Oh and have usb port on top - is a nonsense!

Compass is not broken, it just takes a while to find it's bearing (although the GPS catch is the fastest out there) Mic works perfectly on my headset (I use the Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10vi, and also tested it on the ibeats and beats pro and both worked fine). Notifications have always worked on every single headsets i used with this phone, with mic or no mic (sony, logitech, altec lansing, sennheiser, panasonic, etc). Battery life have improved in time over a months period, and now I just charged once and I can keep running the whole day using it for various things. And USB on top? works perfectly for me since I can line up the 3.5mm jack with the usb when I'm in the car and can put the phone in one of the cup holders. In case someone wants to mention the usb cover, it's not flimsy at all. as long as you don't try to yank it off, it does not even look like it will break anytime soon.
Now back to topic...I have a feeling AT&T might have some kind of an agreement with Samsung to promote their phones more aggressively over their other phones, maybe so they can get the Note and the Nexus in their roster. I actually noticed that AT&T makes no attempt to promote the LG phone other than during the announcement even from the first days it was released. In one of our malls here, there's 2 AT&T spots, one is a small kiosk, the other is a big store. Only the big store has it on display, and even now, 2 months later, the small kiosk still doesn't have it displayed. Same thing with a Radio Shack here in a town near me and in Brooklyn. I went in to look for possible cases for the phone, saw that there is no dummy phone shown, asked the guy where's the Nitro HD, and they're like huh? what phone? I had to speak to the manager and he said oh we do not carry that here.
I doubt it's hardware issue. If it was a battery issue, AT&T can issue a bigger better battery replacement instead of losing business. Or it could possibly be that they do not promote the phone to avoid having to deal with customer complaints about the battery, of course it only applies to those who don't wait and see how much better the battery is now. I still say it's something to do with an agreement with another maker.

not quiet understand you there. Yes, from the day one I was bashing this phone for it's flaws, simply because it's not worth the $600 price tag. If it was sold for $200 in retail, I'd love it.

Really? Do you have anything to compare it with? I'd like to see how it works for you. For instance load up the google navigator and select "walk", then open the map and see how "you" will spin and point in all kind of directions while the phone is stays still.

Some headsets don't have problems, I agree, but some, that work on other phones don't work on Nitro. Lack of drivers? Maybe, I don't know, but it's a fact.

Again, I'm comparing it to my use as I've been using 3 other phones in 4 years period, Nitro dies in 3 hours.

Perhaps, however don't expect any kind of gadgets such as docks or webtops for this phone. And do you know why they put that cover? It's to protect the usb port from dust and crap, because most people care the phone in their pockets, upside down...
Hmmm got home today at 9pm, looked at the phone and couldn't believe my eyes, it shows 4G LTE icon. Either I didn't notice it at 5pm or they added Tampa Bay to LTE network between 5 and 9 today...

I just missed it! I was in St. Pete/Tampa over the weekend and was shocked they didn't have LTE (yes yes, I know they weren't on the short list of markets)... Congrats on getting it now! I live in Boston and work in NH and its such a huge difference in speed between HSPA (at work) and LTE (at home), its ridiculous.
I've a few posts about the heating issues with this device, and just wanted to get more opinions. I've also heard about poor performance via wifi )(and even issues with wired?) and would like to hear about that as well.
I'm surprised with similar hardware that is normally passively cooled (nexus 7) has heating issues. I know they run it a higher clock rate because there isn't a reliance on a battery. But I read the dev version ran even hotter and they addressed this in an update. The only way I could see addressing this via an update is by clocking it at a lower speed. I saw a video of someone playing dead trigger and at parts it seemed much choppier than my nexus 7, which made me think it's running too hot.
I've heard about people running it on its side and it runs cooler that way? I'm basically wondering if stock cooling is sufficient and any info on wifi/nic issues.
For me... Taking the board out of the case was the best cooling solution. That and my cigarette pack mod lol
The case is a crap design IMO and I also wondered why tegra 3 phones run better with passive cooling and no way for the heat to escape other than absorbtion.
The extra strain on the GPU when running 1080 also doesn't help. My monitor and TV only allow 1080, so 720 upscale isn't an option for me!

I don't think it has any real heat issues, people just enjoy doing those kind of mods, (probably in the hopes that overclocking will be a possibility). the wifi and bluetooth though do seem to have issues, probably due to the metal case.

Wi-Fi is shameful. My "gaming TV" is around 10 metres from my wireless router and OUYA (differently from Wii and PS3) cannot detect it, so I have to unplug the phone and move the router each time I want to go online.
The WiFi is unforgiveable, hopefully it's just a software issue. Wired internet is rock solid...never had any overheating. It does get hot, but Tegra 3 should be able to handle it.
I've only had 1 heating problem and it was my own fault (in a way). I currently have the kill processes upon exit unchecked, something that's required for certain sideloaded apps, and an app got stuck on over night. For whatever reason even though I put the OUYA in sleep mode, which should kill most of the apps (and does), it didn't that time. THe next day, the OUYA was hot to the touch. A quick reset fixed the problem and it cooled down in minutes. But to put that into perspective, my OUYA has never even heated up very much after 3-4 hours of gameplay and streaming 1080p video, only that one time.
As for wifi, after the last few updates, I haven't had any problem with connecting to Wifi and even the speed seems to be...tolerable, even with my router upstairs . I know this isn't the case for everyone, however, and I still tend to rely on ethernet as it just works better.

Hmm if a runaway app was taxing the cpu/gpu and it got hot to the touch, I would think a game would do the same, I guess it depends on the game.

This is what I've read in other places and not too thrilled about having to leave it out of it's case.
Someone mentioned bluetooth issues as well. I hadn't heard that before but I guess it makes sense if wifi has issues.
I wonder, has anyone used wifi/bluetooth when it's out of case? Just wondering if the case is shielding too much.
I really want to buy a couple of these, (one mainly for xbmc) but I'll definitely need wifi where I plan to put it so I'll think I'll hold off to see if there is an update resolving this.
mine does get very hot, but not "overheated". processors get hot, its a fact of, umm, tech.
wifi works WAY better out of the case. i mean, 100x better. i've never had a bluetooth connectivity problem.
i wonder what the source on thes heat issues might be.
thechnically the t33 shouldnt be too much different from the t37 in my htc one x+ which i enabled to run all cores @ 1,7ghz, too

Sufficed to say I've not really noticed the overheating issue as I haven't really been monitoring it. The fan kicks in fairly noisy now and then but I only notice it when it's on my desk when I'm doing wired ADB tasks. When it's across the room I don't hear it.
As far as the WIFI is concerned it's my opinion that it's more firmware issue than the casing. When I took original delivery I set it up in my kitchen using WIFI. My kitchen is about as far away from my modem as is possible to get in my house and it connected just fine. I used it for a while with no problem. When I scanned for wireless networks it picked up 7 if I remember correctly, this is roughly the same as I get if I scan using my Galaxy Note 2 or Nexus 7. This obviously included all my neighbors networks BTW. After a subsequent firmware update it wouldn't connect and wouldn't see my modem. I scanned dozens of times trying to find a signal but no joy. The maximum number of networks it has detected since is just 2. Luckily every room in my house has a RJ45 network socket so it's not a problem. It's fairly obvious to me that this firmware update had a very negative impact.
I went from a GS4 to the G3 and the IR blaster was super weak on the G3. The GS4 would turn on anything from almost any distance.
The G3 I sometimes have to get just a few feet away from certain TV's to get it to work.
I'm hoping the G4's is much more powerful.

I noticed this on my girlfriend's flex as well, very little distance. I'm with you, hopefully G4 has good IR distance.
I have a g2 and the distance is abysmal. Don't hold your breath.
2007 called... it wants it's IR blaster function back.

I'd be happy with 10 or 12 feet. My G3 can't go that distance but the TV is kind of old LCD. Range with my G3 is 6 feet at best.

I've got a LG 3D Smart TV, so I don't know if that made a difference but I didn't notice any difference between 6 - 10 feet. My TV is in an odd place so couldn't really get much further without going outside and last night was a bit chilly.

I can confirm that this IR blaster sucks donkey balls. I'm coming from S4 and S6. It's practically useless. I thought at first it was something wrong with my phone but after reading this thread I guess this is LG's MO.
I hated the IR blaster from the G2 and G3 compared with other phones, but I feel the G4 is slightly better then the previous generation.

For a more slightly more technical reply I will say the distance is not the problem. I can get 15 ft easy. The issue is you have to point the phone almost awkwardly straight on or it won't register. On the other hand the HTC One m7 that I had was as good as any remote I've used. I could almost point it backwards..

Well the IR light is behind a hole. I found my G2 would have really weird angles. Sometimes I would point it down to the floor or another wall... and it would work.
I have an LG TV with a really bad IR Receiver angle. You have to be right in front of it for it to pick up any remote.
IR is really just light, I don't think distance is a problem as long as it is in range of view of the receiver.
I use mine for traveling to hack TVs in the rooms. If you don't travel much, you won't know, but Hotels really lock their TVs down, use special remotes, and prevent people from accessing settings, features, changing inputs, etc. With this at your disposal, I can change the inputs of any TV to allow me to setup my Amazon TV Stick and watch netflix/hulu in my room.
IR Blasters are never out dated since TVs and other Media related devices still use them.
In 2007, they were used for short range data transfer but Bluetooth replaced it.

Note 4 ir blaster is unbelievable i tested it on my samsung led series 5. It turned on the tv from whole lounge + distance of my room. I was really shocked. And sir i dont know how your s4 ir blaster worked best i also had S4 mine ir blaster wasn't strong it covered 3 foots now i have Lg G3 it has good range.
I was in the canteen at work the other day on break and was sat maybe, 10 feet away from a big sony flatscreen. I was going to change the channel and see how funny it would be watching people wonder who changed it, but I couldn't get it to register that far away. Disappointing. Though, was at a 70 degree angle.
No better than g3. I have both.
I couldn't turn on my HDTV from just 10' away. It's super weak! A good feature down the drain
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but why does the range of IR blaster vary from phone to phone of same model as my friend's S4 has got a pretty good range but mine has very short (hardly 3 ft). I rooted my GS4, can it cause any problems?
Hello everyone!
I just aquired this phone yesterday and so far, I am amazed with the screen it has.
Although, as soon as I plugged it into the charger, the phone began heating up quite a bunch. The upper frame of the phone is where the heat comes from, almost as if it's coming from the processor or some shorted circuitry.
It's not unbearable to the touch, but it's really close to, which got me really worried.
Is it normal to heat like that on that upper frame while charging and under simple browser load? It also heats up a lot while downloading stuff from the Google Play store, even if not plugged to the charger. Oddly enough, the phone doesn't seem to have throttled down and I didn't have any lags or something. I ran a 3D Mark test when the phone was charging and got really warm, it still scored over 17.5k.
There's a screenshot below for the temperatures I am getting, those were actually low, some of those sensors appeared over 65C earlier on.
Is it faulty hardware? Should I return the product? Could anyone help me? Any help is really appreciated!

I'd try for a return/swap before it's too late and something fries.

Keep in mind it depends on your environment of course, but unless you're living in the depths of hell I seriously doubt 48c while doing nothing much isn't a hardware (SoC thermal) problem. I'd be pushing for a replacement, where'd you buy it from?
By the way 65c? Jesus even my Oneplus 2 didn't get that hot.

Yeah, I'll probably try it. I had a Xperia Z1 before and it never gave me heating problems, not to mention the battery would last an entire day with my using and watching videos. Already talked to the seller actually and the person said she'll be waiting for me to change the phone. I don't know, really; might be me and my location, it's really hot in here. Always about 30~35C+. But I still believe the phone shouldn't get that warm when charging.
I actually made a little comparison and my modem/router reaches about the same temperature as it; that is, without any cooling, the little modem gets incredibly hot to the touch.
I actually tried a few things I read around, hard/soft resetting, trying a less juicy charger (taking in consideration the one it comes with delivers 1.8 amp), tried one with 1 amp max output, still heated...
Either way, would you mind posting a screenshot like mine with your phone after some heavy usage/gaming? That'd be really helpful! Thanks in advance for replying!

Well, that's what the sensors were showing, I don't have a good way to actually measure the temperature the hardware is reaching... Does the OP2 heats up? xD
Well, Brazil isn't really far from hell, common temperatures ranging from 35-43 during the day is...pretty close, I suppose.

Thank you for the reference! It's strange though, my sensors reached about the same temperature, but the phone doesn't simply feel warm... As I said earlier, it really feels like a cheap-o ADSL modem on a hot day. You can hold your hand over the screen, for an example, but it becomes uncomfortable. The sides also gets really warm. I managed to figure where most of the heat came from though, it's just at the upper-left edge of the phone, close to the frontal-facing camera.
I've had 4 different Verizon g4's now and the all did the same thing , the two I have that are newest (one a couple weeks old) and they would get so hot around the modem and CPU i couldn't touch them and if even smell the chemicals in the plastic starting to release vapors (which that's not far from actual ignition) but the newest one isn't quite as bad. They all still worked through the heat without any noticeable damage, but I still have to pop the back off while using chrome plugged or not and hold it in front of a fan. This is the weirdest damn phone I've ever seen. .so picky and requires a lots of care but setup just right with a balance of what is continuously running especially how many and what kinda persistent services and it has become a real powerful toy lol

Oh my god, I have been doing that with mine, that's hilarious! I mean, my Xperia Z1 would get really hot with some applications, but then I'd just take it under a tap and cool it off... xD
On the other hand, I really didn't know I'd need to care so much about heat under normal usage with a flagship phone. It's sad because it becomes really uncomfortable to hold.

Uh...okay, I will sure check that, thanks! But the last thing I want to do is to open a damn phone just to apply thermal compound. I wouldn't mind doing that to a PC every week, but doing once for a phone is kinda sad...

The Xperia Z1 runs on a Snapdragon 800, not a 808 so it's not the same. That's the reason the G4 used a 808 instead of a 810 as the 808 is throttled back. As for opening the phone, it's the easiest phone to open and you only need to do it once for the thermal interface material, G3 had heating problems too. A Smartphone is still a computer as it's a entire Unix workstation that fits in your pocket. The processor is 6 cores and is 64 bit and it's located on the top part of the screen.

Yeah, I know that quite well, believe me. It still makes me a bit sad about having a phone of this kind heating like a piece of plastic you find at those cheap-o stores. I would have actually bought a Xperia Z3+, but I heard so much about the thing overheating that made me really sad.
I also found one of those travel pack kits, with a battery and a external charger, is it a good idea to get one? You know, make usage of this lovely thing that swappable battery is.
Oddly enough, my own battery seems to be lasting pretty okay, fully charged yesterday, did some gaming, watched videos on YT, installed applications and such. Still going for over 24 hours right now and it has some juice left.

Remember that Sony has always been known as a quality electronics brand. LG = GoldStar... until they had flat screen tv's, GoldStar was always a low end brand. No idea about the travel pack kits as I have never seen one here, depends if it's a good value or not as the battery alone is about $US30 and you really only need the battery. If you really wanted another battery, just call the wireless carrier and claim that your battery have issues, they'll send you one for free without having to send the old one back. I have over 760 apps installed including system apps and I have to greenify everything, otherwise Google Play Store won't download and install and hangs, doesn't do it on my Motorola Xoom tablet with less memory but only happens on phones even Motorola's for some reason. I noticed if I freeze Lookout, my battery life is way longer.

True about the brand thing. But I really thought LG improved a lot. With their flat-screens and phones at least. I have been using LG monitors and TVs for a while now, only issue I had was with a LCD monitor, after 5 years of usage the thing won't stay on for over 5 minutes. The monitor would reboot and freeze at the LG logo.
The carrier thing isn't a choice where I live. The phone is "unlocked", so you can use with any carrier you want. My model is also the H818, dual-sim version. And yeah, it's going really cheap here, it's about 90 BRL, which is about 23 bucks. I found it in a good retail store and the product is certainly original from LG.
I also thought about getting the brand new Xperia Z5, but it's far too expensive here and it would have a smaller screen. While the Z5 premium isn't even an option because it hasn't reached the stores yet. So, the best option I had was the LG G4. Best price, swappable battery, larger screen, great camera and the best of those was the expandable storage. I own a toshiba class 10 64 gig SD, didn't want it to go to waste with a Samsung phone. ^^

It really depends on how many of the components are made by LG. Samsung makes more of the things inside their devices. As for LG, their OLED Flat Panel displays are full of problems if you look at avsforums which results into replacing panels and even sending full refunds. Panasonic sources the LG panels and then uses their own electronics and the thing is better but the Panasonic is atleast $US10k while the LG is $US5k.
I had never seen a LG monitor until recently as I'm still on a Silicon Graphics Inc 1600SW made by Mitsubishi Industrial in Japan, this is the same display used by the big CEOs on their desks including Bill Gates.
You can use the Verizon Wireless LG G4 with any carrier you want too, it's just the data part might not be 4G LTE speeds as those are all carrier dependent. Wow, 23 bucks is cheap for a phone since wouldn't it actually be cheaper buying another G4 than the so called battery kit you mentioned? The LG G4 supposedly has better reception than even Motorola phones from what I heard so not all is bad, basically they don't put 100% into a product so they can have room to introduce better models at a later date. LOL. The LG G4 is the only phone currently that has both a replaceable battery and MicroSD slot. To me, the second one is a requirement while the first one is good to have.

Oh, sorry my english failed me there, second language and stuff, you know? I meant the charger kit is 23 bucks in here. 90 BRL converted to USD is about 23 bucks. The phone itself costed me almost 500 USD, got the one with black leather back, damn it looks great.
There's a lot of stuff about components I didn't know. Decent monitors here such as gaming ones are really expensive. LG ones manages good image quality and are also quite cheap. There is cheaper stuff in here, but the image quality on them is really bad.
Swappable battery isn't a must for me either, it's just nice to have. Now the MicroSD slot is a must, I like carrying a lot of stuff on the phone. Music, videos, games and such. Just 32 gigs wouldn't be enough for me xD
At $US23, it's still a bargain for the charger kit. I have the black leather back as well except the thread on mines is black as I basically used shoe cream on it to condition the leather after hearing some people's leather worn off.
About all monitors are cheap compared to my SGI which was $US2,500. I actually never use the internal SD because if something happens to the phone and it won't boot, you're in trouble as I have my Titanium backups on a 200GB MicroSD card which was actually cloned from my Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx HD.

It is really cheap indeed, just ordered one. The kit's model is BCK-4800, it comes with an extra battery, a battery case and the external charger. Really great deal!
Did not know about that thing on the leather back... I do have a simple TPU case here, I haven't been using it because the phone's temperatures. It's really odd though, today isn't so hot in here (About 25-30C most) the phone is warm but it charged really quickly, it jumped from 5% to 85% in less than an hour. xD
Either way, that sounds like a really expensive monitor...Woah...
I'm using a battery pack as I still didn't get the free promotion of the battery, battery case and leather back yet as they ran out of stock. Last email from LG on October 20, 2015 was another 4-6 weeks which has came and gone, they haven't responded to my emails either. I'm using a Ringke Fusion case except it always pulls the entire leather back off when I try to take off the case.

I did a quick search on it and saw that! I am actually using a old LG CRT monitor because my old 23 inch LCD one broke.
That case looks really good, but it's not shipped to Brazil... Oh well, nothing new, really.
Can anyone explain how this is a feature? I mean it doesn't bother me. But the more I think about it . The less it feels like a feature. And more it feels like something fishy. I don't know enough about stuff to understand access to data under a proprietary feature. But at the bare minimum I've never thought you know what this phone needs is that small crappy front facing camera to be in the display . I think I prefer it not there at all since the phone opens the back camera is sufficient for both. End of the day I believe this will be my last samsung. I hate the front screen and inside screen is cool and impressive but still kinda annoying. In my mind these devices should come with all the quirks ironed out. I still enjoy my note 3 rooted as much if not more. And the note 20 ultra was a solid device but wasn't a big upgrade from my 10+. Bare minimum samsung not including accessories is just lame. I would have probably made the closed screen slightly larger for easier use on the go and then the use on the inside screen for less often use in casual settings.
Just my thoughts a month in and was curious to hear others thoughts. I know it's probably and amazing device for someone who doesn't upgrade frequently but as someone who does it was probably the device that has ended my desire for new and cool over tested and true. .
Anyone stumble across any lesser known features or functions that aren't well known?

I use wavelet and my bose in car sounds amazing.
And have good lock/nice lock until hex is functional again.

and I tried to see if I could use adb and 3c but it doesn't seem to improve much or increase any functional use but I just had it long ago and thought I'd see if it was useful
The latest update has improved my mobile service in rural areas near by sprint on tmobile experience
I haven't debloated because honestly the device probably wouldn't improve much with less and I'm kinda waiting to understand what all is needed until my account is fully tmobile. I assume nothing they have changes much but since it can't currently be unlocked on tmobile side I'm curious to how it's locked since it's not supposed to be sprint sim compatible. But still has the sprint unlock uicdd on device hidden with tmobile unlock visible. I also hope someone comes out with a case that has a tiny bluetooth keyboard , I think that would be kinda cool.

I know that for everyone, no device is perfect. As much as I LOVE this Fold 3, it's not perfect, but it's about as close as a mobile device has come for me. Then again, I know that I am also an edge-case as I use my Fold 3 in a way that most others do not. I use it as a Mobile Office. I call it my 3-pocket-laptop (look on YT for a video titled 4 pocket laptop to see what I am getting at).
I have a foldable BT KB with Trackpad, folding Tablet Stand and a 20kMah battery pack I take along and I can literally work from anywhere I have signal. I even made a portable, battery powered monitor (from an old Laptop and some parts I had to order (controller and the like)) I made that I can stuff in a backpack and have an even better experience when on the go. I no longer need to carry my work laptop with me with this setup.
So yeah, I get why it may not work for you, but for me, I love it.

I saw that video and thought it was completely awesome what he did with the Z Fold3 and turning it into a complete desktop solution and even his Microsoft only co-worker was impressed with it.

Yeah, I am former MSFT myself and several people there want me to try the same thing with a Duo 2 (which they are sending me) and do a comparison. This will be fun!
