This is my first post so be easy with me please. I have been running CM11 snapshots on my T-Mobile galaxy sIII for a long while and so far so good. However as of last three months or so I have had some serious issues with sms. I'm not sure if it is a carrier/network issue or perhaps a cm issues maybe it's not even on my side but when I get text messages from one particular contact, who uses an iPhone, every couple of messages end with the world "null." Usually it's a long message and I only receive the first half and then it ends with "null." I have tried numerous different sms apps like hangouts and sliding cm messaging, but I typically prefer the stock sms app. I'm not sure what to do to fix it and I haven't found anybody else with this issue. It's really frustrating to have to ask this contact to resend messages multiple times just to get the jist of what they're saying. I hope there's a solution. I have flashed new snapshot of CM and I just recently updated the modem. Everything else works perfectly just this sms issue is bugging me.
PS. I've tried a clean install and the problem is still present. I had posted a screen shot over in the cm forums but because I am a noob to Xda I can't post external links yet.
Thanks for any help!*

Do they have alternative sms apps for the iphone? Ask your friend to try a few and see if that helps.
No alternative sms apps that I know of. My friend just uses the stock iPhone sms app.

I'm pretty sure its an Apple problem, and they refuse to address it because they know many will blame Android and hopefully switch to their iPhone. You should be able to find some articles on it with a google search.
I mean I'm sure that's a possibility. Whatever it is I hope it gets resolved soon. I've tried searching under multiple terms and I've only come across similar incidents like mine with blackberries from few years ago. So I haven't seen anything with an iPhone causing this kind of sms issue. Also thanks for all of your input.

This is what I was referring to, but it seems its not exactly the same as your problem.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/apple-holding-ios-users-hostage-with-imessage-flaw/
Still, ask your friend to turn off iMessage in their Settings and see if that helps.
I remember reading that entry about the iMessage bug. I owned an iPhone about four years ago, it was the 3g. It was before iMessage was created too. I don't think that's the problem but still I wouldn't rule it out. I'll make sure that my friend has iMessage turned off.

If you use it on anything it can cause problems. So if you have a mac or tablet and are using it there, make syre to sign out or disable it there as well.
Thanks for all the help. I lucked out and got an invite for the oneplus one. So I'm using that now and so far no problems at all. If I very get any invites to give away I'll check back with you to see if you want one. Thanks again.

The Damn bug is back again!! I finally found something about it on the T-Mobile forums. Apparently it's not an isolated problems. A lot of people have the same issue that I am having with a similar setup. So what it's boiling down to is that it is a t-mobile issue with how they handle sms over 160 characters. I'm not sure if this can be fixed by changing some values in the apn settings but I'm gonna see what I can find out.

I would not believe this, I've been using T-Mobile for many, many years and have never had this problem when sending or receiving long messages. I think its either their carrier or device
Well yeah I've been with Tmo for at least the past ten years. I've never had any bug like this. I'm gonna go ahead and day that's it's not a device problem. I've now experienced the issue with multiple devices. Also in different forum entries people have cited receiving the bug from multiple carriers with various iPhone and android devices. Furthermore it can't be a coincidence that the null bug popped up around the same time for many users. Sorry if I sound rude, I really don't mean to. I really appreciate the input and help.

No offense taken.. Usually when I receive texts from friends using other carriers that are long they are split and I receive them separately but no null at the end.. It still sounds carrier related to me tbh, no way so many phones would just start messing up sending or receiving long messages.. It's either one or the other.. Of course this is just my opinion.. After you have made sure you have correct APN, returned to stock firmware, made sure you are using stock SMS app to confirm same issue, there's really not much left to troubleshoot besides calling T-Mobile to reset your account, or for them to admit they are having issues
Yeah same here, usually when I receive long text messages they're split. I think you're right, it's carrier related. I've chatted with T-Mobile reps twice now and they basically blamed AT&T and took no responsibility. I've always used the stock sms app to avoid any issues and I verified that I apn I'm using is correct. So I guess all I can do is wait and hope it works itself out. Also what do you mean by reset my account?
Sent from my 1+One using XDA Premium
Actually, if it were your device or T-Mobile, it would be happening with more than just one of your contacts. I still believe the issue is on their end, not yours.

their end being the person sending you the messages. either its their device or their carriern

Someone else might know if there is a software link here, but I have seen this frequently on all carriers in my area. It seems to be a carrier problem at least some of the time.

What ROM are you using?
I've received duplicate text messages a few times in the past couple days. Running CM9 6/22.
This happened to me the other day. My message went through three times and their message came through twice.
It only happened on that one occasion.

Call your carrier, have them reset your line, describe them the situation and tell them you need everything reset on their end.

I have already done that and they said they don't see anything wrong on their end and gave me a ticket number so that they can try and resolve the problem
I have started seeing the same thing on my phone. I haven't had time to dig into it but I just flashed FreeGS3 last night and it started today. When I was full stock/rooted I never noticed a problem. It doesn't happen every time either. Are you on a custom rom? May not have anything to do with it, just a starting point for me.

Yes I am on a stock rom I haven't changed anything besides rooting the phone. My problem just started yesterday and hoping it get resolves really soon.
Has it been happening with every text you send, or is it kinda random? Mine seems to be random so far. Hopefully its a network issue on TMobiles side.
In case you don't know, in Messaging apps settings you can set it to request a delivery report for SMS and/or MMS. That way you can at least be sure if/when your texts go through. It will notify you when it is delivered.

It's not a Rom issue. It happened to me on stock. But it's fine in Philly now.

I don't think its a problem with the rom. I had just flashed it so wasn't sure at the time but I haven't had any issues with it today. Must have been on network side I guess.

I'm having other issues as well. Not just that but my text will set themselves as read just from reading one or unlocking my screen. Also when I open a thread it will freak out and start scrolling up uncontrollably. And lags bad if I have a lot of different text. I keep having to delete to keep it stable. very frustrating

The sending multiple texts thing is a known issue on the Sprint network right now, so nothing to worry about for that, but if it is truly scrolling up without you touching it, then it is probably a bad touch screen. I have seen it twice before with this phone.

Multiple text messages are are caused by the network. Usually in poor coverage areas is where I notice it the most. One day I got the same message from a friend 27 times in an area with crappy service.

I don't have any other issues with the touch screen and havnt had this specific issue with messaging till the update.
That's not the only issue. Selecting all my unread text as read just from reading one. If I don't pay attention to the other bold text before opening one I'll forget lol. I have terrible memory.

If it's really really bad, call customer service and complain and ask for an Airave. It's basically a mini-cell tower that works over your internet connection (assuming you have one). If they won't budge, ask for the termination people. complain there. Make sure you get the device for free, the line for free, and the activation for free. It is a SIGNIFICANT improvement over bad service. Without it, my calls would drop about 75% of the time; the other 25% of my calls would be unintelligible.
Group MMS is DELAYED!!! WHY!!
I switched from an iPhone(which was fine) to a Nexus 4 and the Nexus was a disaster.
I figured the Nexus 4 was messed up so I sold it and then got the Note 2. Its T Mobile's version and unlocked.
I changed the APN settings to the LTE one and it hasnt really made a difference. AT&T stated that I'm on the correct LTE plan. I tried Go SMS Pro and it really didnt fix it
The delays are sometimes 3-5 min, sometimes 6-12 hours. Most annoying is that when I try to send a MMS, it gets stuck in the sending phase. Id need to send another MMS to push the one thats not sending. Sucks
What is going on? Is it Android? Could it be because its not an official AT&T phone(but I heard its technically the same phone). Is there something else I should try?
I give up guys. Can someone plz help?

Yeah, I did that in the beginning. I dont think there really is a solution. I guess Android hasnt perfected group MMS yet
One good way to get help is to use an informative subject line, one that succinctly describes your problem. That way, readers can quickly tell if your topic is something about which they have knowledge or interest. Caps-locked text and excessive exclamation marks tell us nothing about your topic.
Doesn't seem to matter the rom, I get text messages 2-3-4 plus times. Sometimes randomly. Ported my number from Verizon nearly a month ago.
Any thoughts? Is extremely frustrating trying to hold text convos.

I had this happen to me as well, it's stopped now but I believed it to be rom/ kernel related if neither it's the sender as it's only happened from one person in particular that was running cm on a s2.. I'd do a clean install from wiping everything and going from there

I should have included that. It happens on touch wiz roms. Haven't tried cm.
Also happens from everyone. Regardless of verizon, att, sprint, tmobile.
So annoying lol. I have reinstalled and tried a few different roms.
Have not tried stock. Phone was rooted and modded the moment I got home from the store.

This sane thing was asked a while back. Has something to do with the port from previous carrier. Mainly from a CDMA carrier (Verizon/sprint). However, it is hit and miss, as I ported from sprint and have had zero issues. Even from all my friends on other networks. And my phone has been on almost every ROM made so far, with a multitude of mix and match kernels.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
I didn't see that post. Can you link me or tell me what the fix was?
Is very frustrating. It doesn't happen at first, soon as it does it ramps up until I am getting the same text 10+ times randomly throughout the day.
Which when sending 100 texts on purpose back and forth becomes a nightmare quick.
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
It may take me awhile to find it. It wasn't posted like yours. It was a question asked inside a thread totally unrelated, and someone from t mobile chinned in and said they have issues when numbers port sometimes. That it is just a waiting game until resolved.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Crap. Never mind. It was not receiving from other carriers.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=095
I was way off. Are you using go SMS or any other 3 red party messaging app? I have seen it happen with go quite frequently. Of not, we may have to look at APN settings to see if you are using multiple, or maybe your number isn't accepting the message with an acknowledgement right away.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Ahhh gotcha. Don't have that problem.
I did at first. Thought like you did it was at fault. Had to fresh install last night, be the 2nd fresh install without installing go SMS.
Does it with the stock app.
I probably should call Tmo
