I have downloaded and installed the new 4.2 camera app on my GNex. My question is sort of simple. Where does one find instructions on how to use it? In particular, I am looking for documentation on the new "sphere" feature.

With all due respect, I don't want to wait. I am looking to this community to suggest places that Google or other knowledgeable users might have put some info on how the app works.

Are you saying that you know the information is not yet available? That is helpful. Otherwise saying "if it is not available then it is not available" is an unhelpful tautology.
I think that the 4.2 camera app is available on a few of the new tablets that just got announced. It is not unreasonable to ask if there is any info on usage or features.

No one cares what you want. I want a million dollars right now tax free. Is that going to happen? Hell no.
As for your "situation", you can just learn it yourself by messing around with all the options. It's not likes it's going to kill YOU if YOU do the legwork YOURSELF instead of asking us to do the work for you.

I really don't understand why you guys are all dumping on me. I asked a simple question and a link or quick suggestion would have sufficed. I clearly am capable of doing my own legwork or I would not be running a custom ROM on an unlocked phone and finding and installing an unreleased app.
I love baby pandas.

It's because of 1) your question and 2) your responses.
You're asking if anyone has a link to help about something that isn't released. When you were told there isn't such a thing yet, you sounded like a whinny little kid and said "no, I don't want to. Do it for me". How else do you think rue XDA community (who is known for not searching and asking to be spoonfed as well as dumping on said people) is going to respond?

Because you are wanting bleeding edge unreleased software. This comes at a price and that price is you are part of the first ones using it, so of course there is no documentation. It essentially is a beta, it isn't even promised to work let alone have a users guide for it yet. Maybe in a couple months someone will write a guide telling you what the buttons do.
I tried to help inform you but your general rudeness and 'whining' is making me not want to bother and apparently is having the same effect on others that are normally very helpful users here.

Have you tried it?? It's pretty self explanatory, what are your questions? Also, Google is not well known for documenting their features.
Has anybody tried searching on Google ?
Like many users here, I am disappointed by the pace of development. I understand that the T-mobile version is the only one that has a unlocked bootloader and that limits the interest on development as many potential devs have other variants. Many users here (myself included) are not knowledgeable enough to develop anything ourselves. The less enlightened (to put it nicely) non-developers complain like crazy while others sit quietly for a paragon developer to come along. There are a few developers who are doing great work bringing CM11 and DeviantXone to our phones. Either way most of us non-developers really don't have any opportunity to make a difference... until now.
There is a petition that is taking off at change.org. It has already received a response from LG and with more signatures, could lead to a change. The petition is asking for LG to unlock the bootloader of the phone. This should increase the number of developers by a substantial amount. Developing for the LG G3 is much better than developing for just the D851.
Please join Sebastian Jena's campaign: Click here to sign the petition!

That does not sound like that at all if it what he meant needs to reword big time. It read to me that we have no Dev in this section. We have a small amount but we have. Maybe I read it or took it wrong.
BAD ASS G3
I wouldn't call what going on right now a lack of development. We have both stock based and cyanogenmod based Roms. When the cyanogenmod Roms that are out now become stable we will see a lot of ports for our phone. Its not that big of a deal but the petition is a great idea for the rest of the world. Just so you are aware most g3 versions can have stock based Roms but there seems to only be one actively developed ROM at a time over in the generic g3 section because the rest of the world has the same problem us T-Mobile folks do (lack of people willing to step up and learn how to do this stuff). I give it another month at most until we see stable cyanogenmod.
Goes back to 1% who modify their phones vs. Corporate clients who insist on security.... Who do you think cell providers and manufacturers are going to listen too....?

This is a valid point but I am not sure that many corporate clients support android devices nevermind the LG G3. Everywhere I have worked has been iphone and blackberry but the sample size is only 3 so I could be way off about this. Also they usually listen to the loudest of us. Even if we are outnumbered 10 to 1, we still stand a chance as long as we make more noise in support of this than they do in support of the status-quo. Even if you are right though, it doesn't take long to sign up and it is probably the biggest difference I and other non-developers can make so why not try at least?
I'd be fine with signing it, but then I'll get loads of emails from them, which I don't want.

Just mark it as spam. I signed. I'd say reword to: "sign this petition to get ALL g3 bootloaders unlocked and help development!" And leave it at that.

For the record.... How many bootloaders been unlocked by a cell provider after initial release... And modding community is probably outnumbered by 100 to 1 or more likely more..and loud noise doesn't over come revenue stream... Be glad some providers release a dev phone for purchase.

You still may want to edit.your post. You spend far too long complaining about the lack of developing and how no one is deloping and.far less on why the phone should be unlike. Wasn't until the ending that I was like...oh he's not making a petition because no one is developing but to unlock the boot loader....
I also noticed the lack of development behind the G3.
Its a great phone, but if you want a phone with development youll have to get a HTC or Samsung or Nexus.
Even the Samsung devices with locked bootloaders get more development lol.
Sold mine on Craigslist and I hve a Note 4 on preorder awaiting shipment.
There use to be a time where if you were dissapointed in the amount of development being done on a phone you learned how dev. Thats what was great about android. It is an open source system made for you to make it youelr own. Yes times have changed and and not everything is completely open (nothing was ever completely open), but i know there are still ways to learn. Yes you might think your too busy to learn but if you really want more development for this device you will find the time to learn and truly make your device yours.

There is development going on for the g3. Just the tmobile variant. Once the boot loader gets unlocked, it'll probably be easy to port them to the other variants. And it's not LG's fault that only tmobile's boot loader is unlocked. It's the cell provider's that wanted that. If everyone just gives up and moves to different phones, the devs will see no need to try and unlock the other bootloaders.
I signed it , hopefully they unlock it

Hi XDA,
I had debated buying a m8 vs e8 and ended up buying the e8 due to dual SIM necessity for myself .
However, after buying this device, my biggest gripe is that there is absolutely near zero developer love for the e8. [emoji31]
The e8 is basically a m8 stripped of the IR blaster and camera changed. THAT'S IT.
Can the devs at m8 forums please show some mercy to us folks and release a tweaked version of their roms for the e8?<---once again this is a request or plea for some help, and thanks if you took the time to read.
Thanks and please let another xda lover or developer know if this can be done.

It will come eventually. Devs need to actually own/have access to a device to work on it. Most devs have the M8, not the E8.
Patience is needed. There will be something eventually.
Also, google is your friend.
This is what I got from a simple google search (e8 roms).

Devs please have a look on e8.Device is gr8 in all terms but lacking development.
I posted all over xda and official Cynogenmod forum but no response yet.

Because most devs have the M8 and aren't interested in getting the e8 cause it's just not really any upgrade.
So yeah, as said development I'm sure will come, but I'd expect it to be fairly quiet. Won't be near what the M8 development is anyway.
Patience. ?

Begging likely won't help either. If a dev is not internally motivated to make a ROM (usually since they own the device) they usually won't just do so because you beg or request it. You can try to start a bounty to create a monetary motive. But really, your best bet is to make one yourself, as previously suggested.

Unless you're out for the most advanced thing in the world it will be easy. It takes patience but its something worth learning. I tried my hand at it, and since I was helpful around the forums I got help from countless devs (mostly from Team Venom) to learn to do what I wanted.
Although my main interest is themeing, I wanted to make something unique to my device and be able to say yes I did this myself.

Nice. Good luck. Its something I've always wanted to try my hand at, but my personal life (2 kids, including one new baby) just doesn't presently support it. There are a number of good guides on XDA, easily found by searching. This one caught my eye in particular, as it refers to MIUI, and is also very current and updated:

So I have stumbled upon a problem with rooting/unlocking the boot loader for the Verizon variant of the mot z play. I've seen posts and other tutorials asking for a solution. But I see a similar reply to those questions: that it isn't going to happen due to the lack of dev support. So I am creating this thread to ask the developers what we (the ones who want root for moto z play Verizon) can do to get their full attention on, not just the moto z play, but all Verizon variants. So Devs What do you want? and Owners, What can you give?

Maybe but one can try to find one. And with luck catch it.
From what I understand, Verizon bootloaders are not unlockable. They have only seen to gotten more strict with this over time. I would recommend getting a non-verizon or att variant of every phone in the future.
"Not Unlock-able" is not in the vocabulary of the hacking world. I know someone some where can crack the boot-loader its only a matter of time and effort. Anything can be cracked.

In a theoretical sense that's likely true. But it may require more time, money and resources than are available to the Devs on XDA. I think the point is, if you buy a locked Verizon or AT&T device, don't count on an unlock ever being available, especially if you aren't paying the salary of the guy working on it.

Hey,
since I am getting my 7t soon and always valued the oneplus phones as developer friendly I am wondering if the lack of devs and roms/kernels for this particular phone will sort itself out over time? Is there any issue preventing things like proper twrp and stuff from happening?
Can you recommend a kernel (from the few out there) and is there any other place to look for them?
ElementalX has it covered, right?
Thanks!

One of the major Problems is twrp still needs time for Android 10.
It's a problem for every device.
You also have the option of arter97's kernel that he just brought to the 7t
[r40] arter97 kernel for OnePlus 7 series
There may not be a huge quantity of devs for the phone yet but in this case, you have a few very good developers already.
Oh and on a side note, Arter97 is helping to bring Paranoid Android back to the scene so good things are coming.

Most of those links are semi-private by invite-only.
Developers got tired of requests and demands from rookie users on XDA, and rightly or wrongly felt under-appreciated at complaints about their free for-fun work...and then took their for-funsies development to more private areas. There also has been much squabbling and drama about "originality" and "kanging" in conjunction with moderation here over the decade+ Android has been a thing; which annoyed developers more. XDA really was a victim of XDA's and Androids own success over crappy OEMs undermaintaining their own firmware. Thus the seeming deadness and lack of development across most devices, now.
I know links and very active and very-elite groups on TG--but am not sharing them, because then I'll lose my own access to those channels. Not trying to show-off or be a jerk here, just explaining how and why.

I'd like to know as well. I just past 12 years of membership last week. I think that qualifies me as non-noob.
I was here when they were developing for the old Windows Mobile.
Ditto

Also on year 12 and originally from WM days. Back when HTC was THE phone to own.
Would also be interested in the alternate site. I am not a dev but gladly test pretty much everything.
I miss the old Nexus days easy to root support galore.

Yep - cut my teeth on the HTC phones. Still used them off and on up to the 10.
NATF used to do the best WM ROMs back in the day.
So What Should I Do? OnePlus 7 Pro or 7T?

Why not? Just wait for twrp development. 7 pro, 7T and 7T pro will have same rom and kernal development as the source is almost same.
