[Q] Problems after unrooting Kindle Fire 1st Gen - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I used this method that I got from this thread to unroot the device to 6.3.3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399072. The setup wifi came up, but I decided to skip that. Whenever I unlock the screen, it keeps giving me two errors like android.process.acore and something about calendar storage unfortunately stopped. Then it reboots the device. Does anyone tell me how I can stop all this? Does this mean I can't use it anymore?

I don't think I can do it. I think I have to go into the settings and then go to there. I don't have much time to click on things before it reboots again. The two messages come up, then I i have a few seconds to get to settings. Another message telling me that the "android.process.acore has stopped unfortunately" error comes back again. I hit force close. Then by the time I get to the place I want to be in the settings, the device is rebooting.

may need to try to root, then install twrp/bootloader or get a fastboot/factory cable and install twrp/bootloader

I don't think I will be able to root it normally. So if I do get the cable, where would I buy it from? Would you able to get it from Amazon?

I am looking at the thread you gave me. It says that after you install TWRP, install "update-kindle-prerooted.6.3.3.v1.zip". That would be a rooted version of the stock right? How would I install the nonrooted version? I had the Kindle Fire rooted with a custom rom before the problems occurred and wanted to unroot the device.

Kindle Fire not Shown on List of ADB devices
I got the fastboot cablee a few days ago. The device is not listed when I type in "adb devices". I was able to get it the computer to recognize the device as "Android Composite ADB device", but the device is not listed. When I looked at the Hardware IDs, I saw they were different. The original IDs are supposed to be than what is listed on here: http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/12/13/how-to-install-kindle-fire-adb-usb-driver/.
My Hardware Ids show:
USB \VID_1949&PID_0006&REV_0100
USB \VID_1949&PID_0006
I changed in the "android_winusb.ini" file to
;Kindle Fire%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_1949&PID_0006
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB \VID_1949&PID_0006
When I tried updating the driver, it had "The device could not be started. (error 10)" I unplugged the device from the computer for like half an hour and then plugged it back in. When I did that and went to the device manager, the Android Composite ADB Interface had no exclamation point with a yellow triangle. It also says the driver is working correctly. I still cannot get the device to show up in the ADB device list though. There is no way I can enable USB debugging. How can I get the device to show up in the list?

Thanks for your help! I was able to fix the Kindle. I think I figured out why I got the errors and reboots. I didn't factory reset the device before installing the stock rom and decided to either factory reset the device or clear the dalvik cache/cache after I installed the stock rom, which I don't think you are supposed to do.

[Q] Kindle flashing and factory software

Hi everyone, I have two kindle fire, I messed with both of them.
I've root them the first one has the problem with the yellow triangle logo stucked. And the other one I've tried to reset it to the factory settings and everything was cool until I hit the TWRP utility and I think I erased everything.
I've see tons of posts regarding rooting and troubleshooting related to rooting and i'm pretty sick of rooting, I think that 3 months is sufficient time, please DON'T POST anything related to rooting.
I'm here asking if anyone knows how to flash all the data ofthe kindle from the pc and been able to install the factory software, firmware (I don't know) from scratch from my pc. Anyone, please?
The first one is probably stuck in fastboot. Try giving it a go with "fastboot oem idme bootmode 4000 && fastboot reboot".
For the second one, "I think I erased everything" is as descriptive as not wanting people to post about your procedure is helpful. What exactly is going on with it? For future reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644970
You should also update both FFF and TWRP on both devices once they are working normally.
If i may suggest flashing modaco first after a good wipe everything except your sdcard I believe this will make a smoother transition if you desire to return to stock before returning to stock always do a good wioe to remove remnants of previous roms download the latest stock bin and rename it to update.zip do not place it in any folder just at the root of your sdcard flash in twrp this will also wipe out twrp and fff I really dont recommend doing this lots of people fail at doing the procedure correcty modaco is stock with only the market added try this approach first then you can retain fff and twrp for custom backups.
Ok, so, I've been investigating and what I'm really looking is to erase ABSOLUTELY everything from the kindle sdcard, system, etc, everything. And I'm looking for a method to sideload from the pc the orginal stock ROM of Kindle Fire. Any clues, directions? Any fully functional software?
I really, don't want to try the adb commands (I've tried them before), nor follow any tutorial about root troubleshooting.
I'm really sick of them and of all that mal-functioning software that you have to download(Eg. Not-responding superOneClick, kindleFireUnbrickUtility saying in one line <No device found> <Processing something> <Congrats, your kindle is good to go! (When it's not)>, Eternal loading Android Commander)
With all due respect I DON'T want any more of those, as I said, 3 months is sufficient time, I feel so frustrated.

Read from "Reverting to stock software". You can manually rename the file and then copy it into the KF instead of using ADB for it, just make sure the extension is .zip and not .zip.bin (Windows hides extensions per default settings).

To restore back to full factory
1. Download Kindle Fire Software Update Version 6.3.1
2. Rename the file to update.zip
3. Get in to TWRP and mount USB drive
4. Copy update.zip to Kindle Fire
5. Unmount USB drive
6. Do factory reset, then wipe system cache, and dalvik cache
7. Flash the update.zip
8. Let it bootloop about 3 times or so...
If you want FFF and TWRP then flash Stock 6.3.1 Basic from TWRP. This has no root or gapps.

When trying to execute the adb shell commands all I get is:
- exec 'system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -
I've also tried, fastboot update | flash | boot | flash:raw
This is with one kindle, with the other one, I can't even get the PC to recognized it as a USB
Is there any tool, that really erases everything and take the stock ROM to be installed again? Software, script?

Ahh, that's a bother. It's a pretty annoying error. Could be something messed with your TWRP (I'm assuming you tried the commands from there).
There isn't one, but there's really no need for it... you just rename the ROM to update.zip, wipe cache, dalvik-cache and factory reset, and install update.zip. If you just want to flash stock because you like it better for whatever reason, you could also just look at the MoDaCo custom ROM instead, as it is stock based.
As for the other KF... you can't get it recognized, from where? The ROM? TWRP? Fastboot?

Both of the kindles, are damaged. I can't access them. I just can access one by USB.
For future reference:
This user's issues have been partially dealt with.
The first KF will require a factory cable to be fixed.
The second KF was soft bricked (there were a few corrupt partitions) after a bad flash attempt of the stock ROM. Luckily, FFF was still installed, but the Windows fastboot drivers weren't. Reinstalled FFF+TWRP from Firekit, and then fixed the partitions, wiped and flashed the stock ROM.

Ok, So, I have the factory cable. How can I test its Ok?
I have another question, the kindle is pratically empty no system, no sdcard memory, probably corrupted ¿How do I use the factory cable, to format the Kindle and install the Stock ROM again?
With the KF off and unplugged, type "fastboot getvar product" on a shell (KFU/tools).
Then plug in the KF using the factory cable. If you get anything listed or returned, it should be working fine. Otherwise, if you wait a few seconds and still nothing, you'll have to check the drivers to make sure the correct fastboot ones are installed.
To check the partitions, you can just "fastboot boot twrp.img" to load a TWRP into memory, and then "adb shell parted /dev/block/mmcblk0 p" to print all partitions' information.

Well, I'm at my job now. So I will try this at home, but the shell is not working since system/sh (shell) it's not in the Kindle. I was trying to boot it yesterday with "fastboot boot twrp.img" and nothing. I also tried: "fastboot getvar product" and nothing but I only used the console. Anyway, let's see what happens...
Quick question, I've read that the factory cable puts the Kindle straight into bootmode, ¿So the color of the power button, has something to do with it? ¿I mean how do I know the kindle has entered factory mode? ¿The orange light is an indicator? (With a standard USB Cable I only get the green light with the power button, with the factory cable I first get green light, then orange light)
I've also read that if I can see the Kindle fire logo, the bootloader is Ok. Hence my Kindle is OK, but I can't enter fastboot mode. ¿Can anyone confirm this?
It'll get stuck in the bootloader screen, and fastboot commands should work as well, provided the drivers are properly installed and working.

OK, I've finally made myself a working factory cable. And in the device manger I can see the kindle listed as "Android phone" and in that root it says "Android ADB Interface". Look like drivers are not working. Where can I download them?
Those are the proper drivers for fastboot you should be able to use kfu to send twrp and fff to the device if that doesn't work you will need to fastboot flash them
All I get is < waiting for device>. Looks like the drivers are not installed.
Simply hold the power button down while connected when it says waiting then power it back on and it should send also try unplug replug when it says waiting

[Q] Seemingly stuck in bootloop

I used the Kindle FIre Utility that was stickied to install ClockworkMod. Unfortunately, the utility gives an error message when I attempted to root or install FFF or really do anything else. However, I was able to boot into CWM using the utility. I remember from my experience with ROMs on the Samsung Captivate (AT&T) that installing new ROMs would overwrite things like being unrooted or even recovery mode itself. So I downloaded the zip of Alien Droid and flashed it using ClockworkMod. I wiped data and cache and dalvik cache. I then rebooted the device to find it bootlooping on the Alien Droid logo. So I plug it back into the computer, the computer recognizes the ADB interface as "Android." However, Kindle Fire Utility does not recognize the device anymore since it is not known as "kindle" or at least that's what I seemed to gather. So It's stuck bootlooping for now and I'm not sure how to get it out of the boot loop or how to get back to stock. Anybody have any pointers?

The version that came with the Kindle Fire Utility I linked above. I'm not sure what number it is, but it allowed for touch functions and was black with red text.
The only version that comes to kfu anymore is sbloods but I only know it to be gb and ics safe don't know about jelly bean

I would say install twrp manually in fastboot (temporary or otherwise)

EDIT: could I use a backup from another kindle fire using this method?
My thought was to get back into recovery and restore your backup but that's not possible without fff

Even while bootlooping, you should still be able to issue adb commands, check your drivers. Also, the Alien Droid animation takes a really long time the first time around. How long did you let it sit before shutting it off?

This is true. Although I don't know much about how to operate adb, I do have it installed. I waited an hour or two, the animation stops at some point and freezes but the usb connection still works.

I don't currently have TWRP installed on the kindle, just clockworkmod. I will try to install TWRP from adb and see what I can do.
EDIT: While my computer detects the kindle as an "Android ADB Interface" when I type "adb devices" into cmd nothing shows when the kindle is plugged in (but my phone shows when it's plugged in with USB debugging enabled, so I know I have it installed properly at least). I think the proper drivers are not installed.
EDIT 2: I uninstalled the driver for it to install the google usb driver but it failed to install the new one. Now when I plug the Kindle in it shows up as an empty Removable device in Computer butt does not show up anywhere else.

"Android ADB Interface" usually appears in the device manager when the KF is in fastboot mode, but if you are seeing the boot animation from the ROM, it cannot be in fastboot mode. I'm not sure where your KF is in the boot process, so it's important to figure that out first. Take a look at this fastboot guide...

I installed the drivers and now the Kindle is detected by adb when I type adb devices. ADB tells me it is in normal boot mode (4000). However, I cannot switch to ffastboot. It tells me it cannot find the drive specified and that permission is denied.
FFF, assuming you installed it, goes into temporary fastboot for the first few seconds the the bootloader is running. Use that time to do what you need to do in fastboot. When the device detects you are trying to do something in fastboot during this time, it will stop the countdown and stay in fastboot.

[Q] Stuck in boot, no TWRP installed

Was playing around with my old kindle fire and decided to root it again (I have rooted it on 3 seperate occasions and had 0 problems)
I managed to get it rooted with SuperUser but couldnt quite ge TWRP on my device. I ran in to so many problems during the process its hard to recall all of them. Windows driver signature problems (fixed), amazon/google driver problems, directory problems, SO MANY PROBLEMS.
I became super frusterated and all the sudden... *BAM* tried turning my device back on from a reboot, and nothing.
What I think I did to cause this? I was in some ROM manager app I got from the play store and I pressed "Reboot to Recovery" After I thought I installed it through the app.
Now Its stuck on the Kindle Fire Boot screen with no Firefirefire, boot loader, twrp, or anything. Basically just a rooted device. ]
I open device manager and it just shows up as an unknown USB Device.
I really need help on this one, Im stumped. Please
I'm not familiar with all the ins and outs of Windows recognizing the KF, but have you tried downloading the boot and recovery images and using fastboot from a command prompt? Like so:
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img

install drivers try
1. Download install.kindle.fire_drivers.zip it's same drivers included with KFU 0.99
2. Extract the zip.
3. install_drivers.bat
4. reboot PC
If there is some animation to the boot screen, it is bootlooping or battery is too low to boot up
if it's boot lopping you will need a fastboot cable, if it's the battery connect to wall charger and let it charge for several hours
If there is no animation, it is likely in fastboot mode and you could try [6.3.3] Flashing FFF and TWRP without Fastboot Cable
start with step 2 and download twrp and fff, then skip to 6 Fastboot commands

If I have it plugged into my wall adapter for power, it boots up to CM 11 but is stuck at the animation.
I cannot enter recovery after flashing CM 11

If you are using a fastboot cable, it will only boot to fastboot, only use a fastboot cable if you can't get to bootloader without it.
if you can not get to bootloader without it follow my Using Factory/Fastboot Cable to Flash FFF Bootloader and TWRP Recovery

odd situation, bricked kindle. need help!!

So i been trying to find the answer to my issue everywhere. everything i try fails.
So basically my Kindle fire hd 8.9 is in a constant boot loop. it goes from orange w/animation, then blue w/animation... then after a period of time it says that it cant boot gives me option to factory restore (which does nothing).
when i have it hooked up to a computer, it connects for 1 second, then quickly disconnects. In device manager it comes up as "jem-pvt-prod-04" with the yellow "!". i even tried to use the amazon drivers from another post on xda, in that split second it would appear in device manager, i would update device and point it to the driver. then i will get an error saying it encountered an error installing Android ADB interface. problem encountered while trying to add driver.
Does anyone have any tips for me. im kinda stuck here and desperate with a very expensive paperweight. very upsetting!
I never tried to root, or mod this kindle fire. this problem happened on its own. or possibly after an update of some sort.
thanks guys.

You're not hopelessly bricked if your Kindle still boots to the orange logo.
Might I ask what Windows version you're using? Newer versions enforce driver signatures, and that enforcement will cause failed installations in Windows 8+ unless you disable the enforcement before installing the drivers. I would also suggest installing ADB and fastboot if you haven't already done so. (Use the 15 second ADB installer - it's on XDA, and it works wonders!)

Yes, actually i am using windows 10. My thinkpad has windows 7, so i will try to do this using windows 7. i will post back with results. its funny, out of everywhere i looked nobody mentioned windows 8+ having to disable enforcement. actually it will probably just be easier just to disable the enforcement. ill give it a try and report back.
still no luck. i was able to install the driver. but it still does the same thing. only connects for 1 second when i first turn it on. idk where to go from here? any suggestions?

Completely turn off the kindle and unplug it from your PC if it's connected. Open Command Prompt and type fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product. Plug in the kindle when you see <waiting for device> outputted. The kindle should now boot into fastboot mode, from which point you can reflash the bootloader, TWRP, and the freedom-boot image in Hashcode's thread.

ok so im in fastboot mode now. i checked out that thread that you sent. but i have another problem, how am i supposed to get cm and gapps onto the kindle? is there a command i can use to put the files on the internal sd card? and i cant do the adb commands to push the stack, and do the other commands adb since i couldnt get it loaded to begin with, i am not able to enable developer mode. it would be nice if i could do those commands in fastboot mode. there has to be a way to do this....
maybe if someone can send me the stock partitions that they backed up stock boot partititons when they did it. maybe if i flashed them onto my kindle it will allow me to get it to atleast boot up so i can get into adb.
right now this is completely bricked.
can anyone help me? i just need the original boot loader, boot, recovery... basically whatever was backed up before you flashed it.
i aam looking for the original because i know mine was corrupt to begin with. my theory is if i load the original boot loaders and everything then maybe i can get into the kindle just so i can run the abd commands and then put cyanogenmod on it. unless someone has a suggestion on how i can get my device to be detected by adb ? the furthest i can get into is fastboot.

Once you're in fastboot, you should run these fastboot commands (most of which I ripped from Hashcode's thread) to flash the bootloader, etc.:
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash bootloader kfhd8-u-boot-prod-8.1.4.bin
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot kfhd8-freedom-boot-8.4.6.img
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery kfhd8-twrp-2.8.7.0-recovery.img
fastboot -i 0x1949 oem recovery
after that, you should be in TWRP, from which point you can use ADB sideload (enable in TWRP through Advanced -> ADB sideload) to flash CM. After running ADB sideload, you need to re-enable it in TWRP for each subsequent zip you want to flash.

That's going to be a problem... hold down the Kindle till it completely powers off. Then open command prompt, type fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product , and plug in the Kindle when you see <waiting for device>. Does this get you into fastboot mode?

It sounds like you've got a newer bootloader that's been patched. Go ahead and download the files from Hashcode's thread, and type in all of the commands exactly as given in step 5. Those should fix the red screen issue and allow you to boot normally (or into TWRP, from which point you can ADB sideload CM).

no, i wish i did. the whole reason i started trying this was because the kindle was in a bootloop without even trying to flash it. it would go from kindlefire (orange) then blue, then it will ask me to do factory reset. and nomatter what i did i would keep going in the same bootloop.
so i turned to here for help, and following instructions now i am in this situation.
unfortunatley since i wasnt able to get into the kindle, i was never able to do any abd backups. so i just took my chances with it.
i was actually originally asking if anyone had the original files they can send me so i can try to flash those. atleast i can get it up and running because i really have a feeling this isnt working because i need to push the stack file over thru abd first.

You should be able to separately flash the system.img, boot, and recovery from this tool via fastboot. It's stock OS 8.1.4, but it should work.

anyone have any suggestions or can help me with my situation?? i am wondering if maybe someone could just send me the original backed up bootloader, boot, and recovery. i tried the original ones that were posted with that srt file. but it included everything but the bootloader. which is what i need. i know that in original thread they recommended to back up your original files (i was unable to do so because my kindle woulnt boot so i couldnt use adb to back up these files).
so if someone on here can send me the original files so i can try to get my kindle booted back up. that so far is my only theory because i tried everything else. i know people with advance knowledge would be able to help me in a heartbeat. any devs out there wanna help me out? i would greatly appreciate it!
anyone?

You should be able to access twrp or whichever recovery is installed and do a factory reset (wipe user data)
Sent from my ocean using XDA Labs
I can't seem to access that. To be honest, I can't recall the entire process. How do I boot the device in recovery mode? This device only has a power button and I can't seem to be able to reboot in a mode to wipe all data. I have an option to restart on recovery mode, but when I select that option it just reboots and goes back to the main page.

Ok, so I seem to be making progress. I figured out what you mean about ADB and I was able to follow steps from the link you shared all the way to getting the device to reboot on fastboot mode. The device now is displaying the Kindle Fire logo. The problem now is that if I enter the command fastboot -i 0x1949 devices or fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product I get the message < waiting for device > and nothing happens. The device responded to all other commands but it seems to be stuck somehow. If I now run adb devices it is not listed as part of the devices. I also tried installing the Kindle Fire 1st drivers and it failed. Any thoughts on this?
