Turn off Capacitive button - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to turn of the capacitive button and replaced it with software keys? Because i came from nexus 7 2013.. and the capacitive button in tab s really annoys me.. since i always accidentally pressed the button in landscape mode...
I never have any problem with note 3.. but somehow with tab s I always accidentally pressed it.. ?

I still cant figure out on how to turn off the lights... I have no option for touch key light duration. Is there a way to edit this manually to be set as always off?

Go to Settings > Device > Display > Touch key light duration. Here you can set the time out or Turn it ON or OFF.

This option disappears if you have disabled they keys first. Be sure to disable the lights first!

You must have disabled something else too. I have the navbar enabled, keys disabled and I can still see the option and turn ON/OFF the keys back light.

Manually turn off screen?

Hi, I would like to know if there's a way to manually turn off the screen? I've changed the display time-out settings so that it doesn't automatically turn off the screen while I'm still using it, but it would be nice if there was a way to manually turn off the screen. Right now I'm resorting to locking it, but that means extra work

Welcome to the forum
If you press the red call button it will block your screen and in a few seconds will be off and locked
Hope it helps,

You can se the screen to auto lock at desired time(10/20 seconds, etc.) from the last time you touched a button, with a digital or analog clock display as a screen saver using smarttoolkit. Instead of manually, it will be automatic, but it will turn off your screen. Let me tell you this is a great feature if you have kids, like myself , if I put the phone down, I don't have to worry if my kids get a hold of it 'cause the screen will be locked.

Nothing happens when I press the end call button. Is there some hidden setting I need to activate for it to work? I'm on WM6.1 by the way.

slide 2 lock

how do i enable slide 2 lock on the phone when it's power off or back light goes off? it seems the only way to get slide 2 lock is to hit start then tap lock....
I think this is what you are looking for. Its what i use and works perfect! my screen locks when my backloight goes out or i hit my power button to turn it back on.
http://thewingster.com/autolockscreen.aspx
Also Got it from this thread in the software forum. Good place to look for good apps and utilities for the TP2
There are also a couple other auto lock screens here too but the link above is what i use.

Its in the start --> settings --> system area of the phone and its called smart lock. To autolock when backlight goes off check the suspend lock box
do you know if there's a way to lock when pressing the power button slightly?
thats what it does the hit the power button to turn the backlight off and when you turn it back on it will be locked
i just soft reset and now it hangs on the windows screen and won't boot. not sure what to do.

This program WAS working great for me earlier this evening, and I was happy with it.
But it randomly stops working (I'll hit the power button and then hit it again, and it won't have locked the device).
>_> Any thoughts / solutions?

You can also manually lock (with WM6.5) by pressing and holding the end/home key, unless you've assigned it to something else (see Settings --> Personal --> Buttons). Additionally under Settings --> Lock you can check the "Prompt if phone unused for" box and set a time (i.e. the same time as you set the backlight off), but you then do have to enter a PIN or password of your choice, I believe (which I do anyway for security).
I tried various apps such as S2U2, but found them excessively battery heavy or buggy, although Touchlock pro had loads of settings (including using stylus, keyboard, g-sensor etc.) which I possibly didn't configure right!
thanks for the feedback, i do notice sometimes this does not work...i've switched to s2u2 to see how it goes.

[Q] Can the capacitive button vibrate?

I'd like to make the capacitive button vibrate on touch. I'm rooted and searched around the key config files but could not find anything obvious...
Any ideas?
Thanks FredT

Thanks aznmode... I should have been more clear... all the soft buttons vibrate as I do infact have haptic feedback on... but the setting does not seem to apply to the capacitive button... hence why I am looking for something under the covers to tweak for this...

I see. Any reason why you need them to vibrate? Just curious.

...no really critical reason, just wanted the button to vibrate so that I know I hit it in the dark when I want to turn the tab on. (I've switched the capacitive button to an on/off button).

If I get what you trying to say here, you can try button saviour(root), there is a screen off and other onscreen buttons features(back/home/menu/vol etc) that's quite handy too.
If thats an app bro sorry not the one im looking for..
Im looking for something to edit in the phone to make the screen off by pressing a custom button, e.i pressing the home twice and the screen is off. Press once and the screen is on.
The power button is too far, i mean my finger needs to jump there just to turn off the screen. If u get me bro..

umm i don't think there is a mod for such a particular and specific personal perference
There are tap to execute and similar app that make use of the Proximity sensor of the phone to wake up phone without having to press the power button.
Personally I only tried softpower.
Description
Turn screen OFF and turn screen ON without touch power button.
SoftPower will safe your physical power button by use Search button or notification to turn screen OFF(and lock) and use proximity sensor changing to turn screen ON.
Note:
-Proximity sensor on device is required for Turn ON function to work.
-To uninstall, do this first. Settings-> Locations & Security(or Security in ICS)-> Device Administrators then uncheck SoftPower.

ive been looking for this too, since ALL SCREEN OFF APPS dont make your phone go into deep sleep resulting into battery drain, only the physical power button can make you phone into deep sleep and auto idle i think, im looking for a shorcut not widget or app to mimic the physical power button so i can set it into gesture and alike to make my phone go into deep sleep
try cm10 fxp150, u can easily lock your screen from notification bar
If you install cm10 I'd recommend enabling the navigation bar and setting the back button long press to make your phone sleep. It's wonderful to use!

Soft key lights turn off when typing?

Hi, I don't remember if it has always been like this but when my softkey lights are on , they immediately turn off when I type, canceling the 6 second light duration.

Hmm, never paid attention before, but you're right, it's turned off immediately when you touch the keyboard. I guess they don't think it's necessary to have it on because the attention are in the keyboard anyway.

Does it turn on when you touch the screen then?
As soon as the keyboard is up, whether I touch the keyboard, or the text box, the soft key light turned off immediately, until I pressed the back button again.
