Hi, does anyone encountered the same issue on the wifi hotspot not being able to detect by other phones? Also there was no icon on the notification area after turning ON from the setting. Currently using 1.2.4i of ColorOS. Please help. Thank you.

Having problems with my turning my phone into wifi hotspot (have uk orange htc desire hd chocolate). Turn on the portable wifi hostspot ok, my laptop and my archos 70i tab can both find and connect to it ok, BUT it dont work - on the laptop it just says local connection only - on the archos just wont connect to internet. most frustrating. also some problems with the data connection - phone shows the h or g icon and the arrows, but not connection when try browser etc usually works after a restart, but who wants to have to restart the phone every time you wanna use the data connection?
Any thoughts/suggestions?

I ran into the same problem yesterday. I was testing if the wifi hotspot functionality worked, to use my phone for wifi tethering. As soon as I turn on the function, my data connection (3G) is disabled.
Doe anybody know how to keep the data connection after activating the wifi hotspot function?

I was wondering if you are with orange? or are in the uk? Maybe it is something the carrier does not allow! will call orange today.

Hello, I’m new to XDA Forum and thank you in advance for answering my basic question.
Verizon Gnex stock. Wi-Fi Hot Spot?
Prior to JB OTA update I installed PDAnet, FoxFi & FoxFi Addon. The Gnex is my only net access right now. After JB update I installed SwitchPro to get a WiFi Hot Spot. I assume it’s the native one “AndroidAP”. FoxFi is now works after developer fix for JB. So I have FoxFi and SwitchPro installed but things aren’t working correctly.
SwitchPro no longer launches the native Wi-Fi “AndroidAP” but launches the FoxFi hotspot instead. ? When I launch FoxFi I now get two Wi-Fi notifications on the bar. When LTE/3g searches/toggles the FoxFi active Wi-Fi Hotspot indicates "Off" but the Gnex settings Tethering & portable hotspot indicator shows FoxFi "active". ?
I like the SwitchPro switches but also use PDAnet for USB Tether. 4g LTE reception is spotty where I live. Bounces between 4g/3g a lot but getting better.
Would someone help me properly setup the wi-fi hotspot apps and switches?

I was under the impression that since then FoxFi app was fixed for jb, and there is the addon for it, switch pro was no longer needed?
I could be wrong as I do not tether so those apps serve me no purpose.

I can't get wifi tethering to work. After setting up SSID and password (WPA2 PSK), then turning on Portable Wifi Hotspot, it says Error. In status bar there remains the notifications hotspot as active but still cannot be detected by other devices. USB Tethering works fine tho.
I tried adding "dun" (without quotes) to APN type.
Using X-Gamer+LuPuS GBv2. Thank you!
Does normal WiFi work? Did you flash WiFi modules?

Got it working now bro. Thanks for the reply btw. It was the "Wifi Afterburner" from 3GTC, I disabled it. Dang this was bugging me for months.

Wondering if anyone else is having problems with 5ghz Hotspot wifi tethering? I can activate the setting but I can't always connect to it with my other devices. Most of the time it works the first time I activate 5Ghz hotspot, however if I toggle it off and then back on again, it won't work anymore until I restart the phone. The UI will show me that the hotspot is active but my other devices won't be able to find it.
I've tried it on multiple roms including a fresh install of the latest default MiUI rom, all with the same problem. I saw posts on reddit claiming that it could be a UK region bug and to try change the region to France but this doesn't solve the issue either.
2.4Ghz hotspot works everytime, however is a bit slower than 5Ghz, so I'm keen to try and get this issue resolved.
Any help is appreciated.

Yeah I understand that, however that doesn't explain why the hotspot works the first time, and never again until a device reboot.
My other devices support both 5Ghz and WPA3.
Hi all, my WiFi Calling (VOWiFI) is working at home and on most public networks but not on the work WiFi, can anyone please advise if there is a way around this please as it would be extremely handy at work due to the lack of phone signal. I've tried using a VPN but with no luck. I'm not sure what ports is uses or how to check if they are open. Thanks
