Cannot edit build.prop P7 (B126) - Huawei Ascend P6, Mate

So my problem is that I can't edit build.prop. Already mounted r/w and I have tried root explorer and different build.prop editors but changes do not save.

Yep it's rooted. Do you mean that try to edit with adb?

There is something wrong with root. Most of the apps works fine with root permissions (titanium, set cpu) but some apps says that they cant get root permissions even if super su says root permissions granted. At the moment root is from twrp but I have also tried rooting with root genius with same results.

Help with swapping int mem and SD card

New to all this so proceeding slow and cautiously. Recently rooted my Acer A100 with ota ICS installed. When trying to swap SD card and internal memory using Crossix directions I ran into an error msg that I haven't seen posted by anyone. The only difference I can find is his directions recommend using Root Explorer and I am currently using Root Browser Lite. Anyway when I go to rename install-recovery.sh to .bak it says Root Browser Lite is granted Superuser access but the operation fails. I looked at the Permissions for the file and they are rwxr--r-- I tried to change the Permissions to rwxrwxrwx and got an error msg that said "Changing permissions was not successful. Please note that some file systems do not allow permission changes." Would using Root Explorer change anything? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Sounds like a root issue, try rebooting, opening superuser first then try.... unless you already put the file there and permissions aren't correct, that will brick you! If you already did force close super user. Remember if all else fails you can use Adb.
sent from your future.

Its because /system is a partition, not a directory, so you have to mount the partition r/w to get it in the folders and files on it.

[Q] Can't rw on /system

I backed up and then deleted my play store using titanium backup but when I went to restore it it wouldn't let me. So I tried to move it to system/apps using a few file explorers like root explorer,Es explorer and super manager but non of them let me put system folder into rw mode , and yes I did give all of them root rights. I also tried to use the adb command on the terminal with su rights but that did nothing, does anyone have any advice besides reseting my phone.i am also running Jedi mind trick x3(i know I need to update)

In ES, you have to go to 'Root Explorer' under 'Tools', then 'Mount R/W', then use the radio buttons to give it write permissions (given that you have root already).

I have this problem too! I am currently trying to uninstall the system youtube app because it wont let me install the new 5.0 update without doing that as I have a modded youtube apk. I am on AOKP custom ROM

How do I set /system as Rw?

I keep trying to edit build.prop on my 5x as I've done on previous devices in the past. Going through file explorers setting it to Rw doesn't actually change it. Does anyone know how to actually set it as rw so it can be modified? I'm trying to add eis, if anyone else has tried.
Thanks!

are you sure you are properly rooted? what method did you use?
do other root apps work as intended, which file explorers are you talking about, are you on stock?
just asking, since there are root procedures around through which you funnily enough end up with a r/o rooted device. also the more relevant information you give, the easier it is to help.

I followed a guide in November, don't remember which. All done through adb. All root apps work fine, xposed, titanium Backup, etc. I've tried stock, es file explorer and FX file explorer. Also for giggles I tried Rom Toolbox Pro. Also, in twrp it does say I'm not encrypted.
When trying to edit the file, it only gives me a cannot modify file error.

Did you mount system rw before trying to edit the file?
In ES it's under Tools > turn root explorer on, then tap it and mount rw
Same for me...

Using ES worked perfectly. No other actually worked. Many thanks!

Cannot edit build.prop on rooted developer preview 4

I just flashed developer preview 4 and rooted but I cannot get the build.prop edited. I've tried multiple apps but always says error saving. Had anyone gotten the build.prop edited?

I have successfully edited the build prop by using root explorer. Make sure you are rooted and allow super su to use root explorer.
You will will need to hold down on build.prop to highlight it, then go to menu and select, open in text editor.

I've tried multiple. Its not the file explorer. I've tried re flashing the factory image but still will not let me edit any system folders or files. I think that maybe it is systemless root. Not sure how I got systemless root or if it is possible to get regular root. Is there a setting is Supersu?

You may have a SUPER.img - i just learned about this myself - its a combined image containing /system - /vendor & /Product - it looks like it is similar to Systemless root or system as root... idk they are weird but i do think its possible to modify build.rpop, but it may require a PC.... Im looking for a way to edit build.prop myself and learning all this now.

I have root but I can't delete/write files in system directory

Hi everyone.
I have
Android 9 + TWRP 323 + Magisk 16.7 + Magisk.apk
Root checker said that I have root.
SolidExplorer and Root Explorer can read root directory but cannot delete/write files in system directory.
Titanium Backup works good and restore applications.
What is wrong?
Thanks in advance.

It's working fine for me. I just added a folder to /system, then added a text file to that directory, then edited the file without issue. Android 9, rooted using Magisk 16.7 Beta. Do the file explorers have root permission in Magisk?
One thing that happened to me the other day: I felt like an app (Fi Switch) wasn't properly prompting for root. I went into Magisk's root settings and changed the Automatic Response for root access to "Grant" from "Prompt". Went back to Fi Switch, did the thing that required root, and it worked. Checked Magisk again and it had now registered FiSwitch as a permitted root app. Then I changed the setting back to "Prompt" (not sure it really matters., but it feels safer lol).
It's almost like it just wasn't asking for root, then it was getting denied. Temporarily allowing it fixed it.
I have no idea why that worked for me, but maybe it'll work for you
