[Q] Sgh-i747 official 4.4.2 - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey, so I have a Sgh-i747 (s3 American version). And it seems like at&t is starting to roll out the 4.4.2 for almost two months now and I never had the update. So I went to the Samsung firmware site to check if I can download the 4.4. 2 from there and just flash it by Odin, I did find the firmware there but it said it's for. Canadian model). So I am asking if I can flash my phone with that firmware? I hope to get an answer.

Everything you need is in the General section. There are 3 or 4 threads that will help you update. Enewman17's seems to have a good success rate so id start there.

Can you give me a link please?

err on the side of kindness

That's just the rom I think which is fine. But if you want to fully update, this is one of the threads I was referring to.

There's another by enewman17 right next to it (for now) that would also work.

Do you know if Newman's method trips Knox or the warranty bit? I am trying to get back to 100% bone stock so I can get the OTA update, but I want to leave my warranty intact at 0.

Thx I'll give it a try right away!
Does it include the latest TouchWiz?

You'll need Odin if you don't wanna trip.

Using ODIN doesn't trip it? Didn't know that, good to know. What version of ODIN do I use with enewman's 4.3 tar file in order to not trip my warranty bit?

Use Odin 3.07 or 3.09.

I used ODIN 3.07 and flashed enewman's 4.3 tar file with it and it worked like a charm! I am back to 100% bone stock now and can get the OTA. It didn't trip my warranty bit or anything else. Everything in download mode says "official" and 0. Thanks DocHoliday!

UNROOT sgh-t999v

i need to unroot my s3 for warranty purposes but i cannot find proper procedures for the the model sgh-t999v..
i have 2 questions,
1. can i just root a stock rom for sgh-t999 to my sgh-t999v?
2. anyone have the procedures to unroot my sgh-t999v
thanks
Flash a stock rooted Rom. T-Mobile one. That seems to be ok as long as you don't flash a T-Mobile radio.
Not sure if triangle away works on the Canadian version.
Maybe someone else has tried it.
All I had to do to return my last one was flash a stock rooted Rom.
I don't think they check the flash counter

I can see you have a Videotron Galaxy S3. They don't check the flash counter. Let's just say I know this "by experience". As long as it's just rooted and you don't have any custom ROM, you should be fine. But indeed if you can at least hide the SU app it would be a good thing.
You could also perform a factory reset in CWM prior to going to the store, as they will make you do it anyways (and you actually don't want them to see the CWM screen)prior to any exchange. It's company policy.

If your trying to go back to stock, just download the stock rom from sammobile, it has everything you need like stock recovery, and then just flash it via odin.

Thanks!
I'll test it tonight, wouldn't look good to download a 700 mb file at work!
I tried a few firmwares, but for some reason they all said "unsupport dev_type" when trying to use odin to return to stock non root (from stock rooted) In the end, the easiest way to remove root was to just let Kies update my gs3 to Jelly Bean (sgh-t999v). Painless, no data loss, took about 30 minutes with the firmware download.
Good luck
You will likely also want to triangle away. I won't link because it's extremely dangerous software that requires you to read up on the risks.
But that will reset your custom flashes assuming you have some on your counter you can check easily by going into download mode.
i recently lost my stock rom backup.. deleted it off clockworkmod touch by accident, so i only have the cm10.1 nightly i was running when i deleted it.. now i'm assuming i will lose root if i flash the stock firmware through odin? is there another way to get my stock rom back without losing root (and cyanogenmod rom backups)?
hey guys im having trouble with triangle away on my sgh-t999v with the baseband version: T999VVLUFNF1
after I used triangle away and I go into download mode it says:
current binary: Samsung Official
System status: official
qualcomm secureboot:enable
Warranty Bit:1
Bootloader AP SWAEV: 2
Although the current binary and the system status have changed the warranty bit is still at 1
Please help!
There is no way (and never will be a way) to change the Warranty Bit. Sorry

I guess im screwed for warranty..I thought it might be cuz I have a custom kernal installed that triangle away didnt work..but thanks anyway and sorry about posting in multiple threads, im kinda new to this
No problem, thats why i mention it, so you know for the future.
Tecnically, with the warranty bit tripped, the warranty is void. However, i have seen a lot of posts where people sent it in anyway and their warranty was still honored. Its not a guarantee, but there is hope it can be used if needed. The good thing though, is you most likely will never need to use it anyway!

[Q] Unrooted before Triangle away -___-

Hey guys/ gals,
Im new at posting here but not new at lurking around on the forums...
anyways like the title says, i unrooted with SuperSU before i used triangle away. so now i cannot flash the stock rom.
i am following "Towle's" guide on ((How-To Completely Unroot Your Galaxy SIII |Zero Flash Counter|"Normal" Status)) now. but before that i got carried away.
my question is how can i re-root or take away the triangle in order to go back to stock?
Thanks in advance
Odin to the latest firmware, which you can find in this forum or at sammobile. Then root your phone like you did b4. By this time you can use triangle away and odin back to the latest firmware without triggering any flash counter.

Ill check the link in a few. Just got home. But any of the official firmware should be fine to use (assuming you're doing this for warranty)
Not sure what ypu were asking about UVALEM and UVALH2.
LEM was the original firmware when first released.
LH2 was the last official ICS release.
Either one should be ok to use.

i thought we were supposed to be consistent with the Baseband version. since mine says T999UVLEM i thought i was only supposed to DL files that said UVALEM..lol ok, im probably making this harder on myself than it really is. im getting it now. but im still not able to download the Firmware. keeps directing me elsewhere.
EDIT: i see what you mean now. i have right now 4.0.4 ICS,
so i went ahead and started to download the latest route66 for JB 4.1.2....instead of the 4.0.4... (i thought i was supposed to stay with 4.0.4 lol)
so does the baseband change according to the firmware?
also the Route66 4.0.4 ICS is the one that the link is broken.

Ok, I see what you meant now. I think youve got yourself on the right track now though. The firmware includes everything you need. It will update your system, modem, recovery, kernel as well as several other partitions (you dont need to ever worry about them though)
So Yes, if you flash the MD5 firmware, you will end up with the latest of everything. Your baseband will change to MD5 along with everything else.
The Root66 firmware isn't mine. MrRobinson has a thread dedicated to it and I only direct link to his files just to make them easy to find. I think he took down some of the early ones, or minus.com may have terminated his account. Ill mention it to him, but I wouldnt worry about it and just flash one of the others he has available.
The baseband comes with the firmware, so it does not matter which firmware you odin

So by flashing a custom 4.3 knox free....I can still odin back to stock 4.2, triangle away, unroot and be good for warranty issues?
In other words theres nothing to worry about with flashing a 4.3 rom so long as I just go back to 4.2 and use the correct procedures to do so......with all the scattered info I was kinda concerned about trying 4.3
If you are planning to return it, why not flash the OTA version of 4.3 via Kies just before you do and be done with it?

I am confused about warranty, knox and all that...I have been around a long time and have owned all the gallaxy s phones and flashed em all but this new ota has me concerned....atleast with 4.2 I "know" ill not have any issues with warranty returns.
I dont have plans to return it....im thinking into the future a bit....
....I guess what im asking is....if I go to 4.3 can I easily odin back to stock 4.2

[Q] Galaxy S3 downgrade from android 4.3 to 4.1.2

I have a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-T999) and I made the mistake of allowing an upgrade??? to android 4.3 which has been very unstable for me. T-Mobile, Samsung, and Google all say that there are no updates to 4.3 and I can’t downgrade, so basically I’m out of luck.
Can I downgrade 4.3 to 4.1.2 without bricking my phone and hopefully without voiding my warranty? If so, please give me some instructions. I downloaded Odin 3.07 and firmware: root66_TMO_T999UVDMD5.7z. Thanks a million.

if you flash the root66 of the md5 firmware via odin after you have already upgraded to 4.3 you will HARD BRICK your phone. Taking the 4.3 ota updates your bootloader and flashing anything other than 4.3 in odin will wreck your life.
You need to download the root66mjc firmware here:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23212708291682181
And flash it in odin. Then from there install a custom recovery and download a rom of your choosing and the compatible modem. I recommend you download the md5 modem. Then you're gonna wanna boot into recovery and flash the rom and the modem only (kernels are ok of course) JUST NO BOOTLOADERS. I don't even know if you can do that in recovery but trying to mess with the new BL will brick your face I mean phone.

I was referring to the 3 persons who responded to the OP's question similar to yours. @jtl_777's response is pointing to the 4.3 Firmware.
Its more implied in this thread than stated matter of factly. This thread is several months old, and I know your question has been asked countless times in many different threads, much more recently than in this one.
I suggest you read the stickies in each section. Just by doing that you will find all firmware and modems and more. You will also find that the answer is no, you cannot downgrade your full firmware from 4.3. And you never will be able to.
If your having problems I suggest flashing the latest 4.3 build via Odin, then factory resetting. Start over clean with minimal restoring of backups (only the essentials).
Every time an update comes out there are people who have problems. The majority are solved by doing what I just said because most bugs are caused by using old data created by old apps on the new build.
Even if you could downgrade, chances are youd run into even more issues and still have to factory reset.

great thanks so much for your help, can I flash the recovery via odin mobile app or is it safer to do it via pc?
Safer via PC.
It is possible via Mobile Odin. But that's one of the partitions I don't want to mess with when Phone is Booted/
If you know how to use Mobile Odin then it should be fine. I agree that its better to use pc odin if youre not familiar with Mobile Odin. However, it actually doesnt flash the recovery while booted. It flashes the flash kernel which is MO's temp recovery. It then boots to this and flashes. (So, perseus is right in that regard. But I personally love Mobile Odin and find it extremely useful and consider it safe unless you are brand new to all of this).
In fact Mobile Odin is another way you can flash 4.1.2. Itll flash the firmware, but only the system, kernel, recovery and modem. (I didnt bring this up previously because I didnt want to confuse, or go too far too fast).
If youre thinking about flashing recovery via MO, though, you can also instead just flash the rom you found. No need to flash the recovery unless you just want to. Put the rom in the update.zip slot and itll flash just fine.
If any of this is confusing, just stick with the original plan for now. The rest will come easy if you dont rush things.
One more thing, while you can usually update stock without wiping, you may find you have to factory reset after downgrading as the old system was not built for using data created on a new version.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
thanks for all the help.. had to do the wipe since it kept showing the samsung logo but after that it booted just fine.

Unroot file???

I rooted my friends Tmobile GS3 a few months ago and I need to unroot it. I have looked and searched everywhere for the unroot to 4.3 and i cant find it. I dont understand why it is so hard to find, im not a noob and i had the same problem with my sprint GS3 till someone posted the file for me. I would grately appreciate it if someone could post me a link to the file and a step by step, from the things I have been reading it seems like there is more to do than just flash the tar in Odin . So just to be safe if someone can add a step by step for me that would be great. And if necessary stock recover? Thanks guys Hope someone can help.
Just flash the stock tar in odin, or in your superuser app there should be an option to unroot.. But I would go the Odin way and just start fresh
