Hey Guys,
I am Canadian, and I would like to install a stock bell rom on my AT&T S3.
Is this possible? I haven't found anything concrete on this subject.
The bell rom has next to no bloatware.
You can install the ROM but not the bootloader as cross-flashing the bootloader could brick your phone. You also need to make sure the modem is firmware compatible with the ATT bootloader.
Alternatively, you could root your ATT s3 and freeze or remove bloatware yourself.

If you flash it with desktop Odin, yes. If you use mobile Odin, no. You'll still have to make sure the modem is compatible with the bootloader.
If using mobile odin, just make sure you de-select modem and recovery. Never use a modem not meant for your device. Too risky.
I wanna do the same on my girlfriend's phone. So basically if I use Desktop Odin (using a firmware from sammobile) I don't have to worry about bootloader? Also, doesn't the firmware flash modem also? Why should I be concerned about it?

Do not use desktop Odin to flash any i747m from sammobile.com onto an i747. This will probably brick your phone.
You need to use mobile Odin and make sure you are not flashing an i747m bootloader or i747m modem.

You need to make sure that Odin does not attempt to downgrade the bootloader if the phone has a 4.3 or newer bootloader. Also, a 4.4 modem on a 4.3 bootloader can cause a hard brick.

I remember updating my girlfriend's bootloader but all this was before the official kitkat update. So I can safely flash bootloader and modem from MobileODIN since I know they won't be downgraded?
No! You cannot update firmware with mobile Odin! Only use it to flash firmware you've already updated to.
If you have the I747m, download the firmware you want from sammobile and flash with regular Odin. This will fully update everything to 4.4.2.
I think there may have been confusion because you said you wanted to do the same thing as the op, who wanted to flash i747m firmware onto an i747. But later you implied you have an i747m, correct? If so! Just flash the correct firmware for your device with Odin.
If that is not correct, please restate exactly what it is you want to do.

I have a SGH-I747M from Bell. All I want is flash stock 4.4.2. I was previously on stock 4.3 and I installed the I747MVLUEMK5 bootloader which is the newest bootloader for my device in @dstruct2k thread and then installed various kitkat ROMs with a custom recovery. I also installed the I747MUMUEND modem afterwards which is also the newest in his thread but I don't think either thread are maintained anymore. So if I want to fully return to stock, I just take the appropriate file from sammobile and flash via Odin and NOT mobile odin right? The bootloader and modem is included in the file I download from sammobile?

Yes. Just flash the firmware you get from http://sammobile.com/firmwares with regular PC Odin. It includes bootloader, modem, system and more.

I am using Odin 3.09 and I see AP and BL buttons. I know I have to click AP but do I also have to click BL to make it flash the bootloader? Or will AP suffice for everything? Do I have to check bootloader update?
Just AP. Its the exact same procedure as before except you put the firmware in AP. You only need the other options in certain circumstances.

I flashed CM11 and heard it use a different type of partition. Would it be a good idea to check repartition? Also, is it 100℅ compatible with SGH-I747M? It isn't included in supported devices for some reason.
Tbh, I'm not sure on that. I don't use cm so I'm not very familiar with it. You shouldn't need to use repartition though. But if going between cm and touchwiz you will have to factory reset or it'll hang on boot.

Hey guys
so I accidentally installed a firmware (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2282603&highlight=unbrick) and my phone got bricked (T999). I managed to get it to boot using the debrick solution with the sdcard, but I have no idea how to make it boot without the sdcard. (used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439367).
I've tried going to the odin thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4081205) and have downloaded the T999 MD5 (both root66 and stock) files yet everytime I try to flash, odin keeps failing right after NAND WRITE.
The funny thing is, I have cyanogen installed and it works fine. it's just the boot process that's not working.
I supposed as a last resort I can leave the sd card in, but anybody know a solution?
Thanks!
Are you running CM 10.2? If you were on a 4.3 ROM, you have to find the MJC firmware.

That thread specifically says to NOT flash that firmware if you're running the latest 4.3 firmware, and since you're running CM 10.2, I assume you're on firmware 4.3.
So that's why you need to flash the stock 4.3 firmware to restore your bootloader back the way it was.

I first flashed that firmware because 10.2 wouldn't flash properly.
If I'm already running 4.3 then why do I need to flash stock 4.3.
Right now my biggest problem is that odin simply won't flash. It keeps failing after NAND WRITE.

Because you want to boot your phone without the SD card. According to the thread, "Currently there is NO way to downgrade from MJC firmware without a brick due to the Knox security stuff added to that firmware release."
When you flash the MD5 firmware in that thread, you attempt to downgrade, causing the brick.

If I flash 4.3 stock, then it's not downgrading. It's just maintaining that bootloader. Then how come the odin flash fails?
Right now I'm trying t oget my phone to boot w/o a sd card. It doesn't matter what version I have to flash. It's just that every version seems to be failing.
So you are saying that you Odin 4.3 mjc firmware and it keeps failing?

nope. on the debrick thread, it says after being able to boot with the sd card, go to the odin thread.
the odin thread has a bunch of stock roms and instructions on how to install them.
i downloaded the stock roms and tried flashing all of them (in hopes atleast one of them would work) but they all fail
Just flash 4.3 firmware. Not a rom.

Sorry, I wasn't very specific. Because you're on MJC, there's no way to downgrade. That's why none of those ROMs work.
You need to flash the 4.3 MJC firmware via Odin because when you flashed that MD5 firmware, it messed with the MJC bootloader, and the MJC firmware won't let you downgrade to a lower firmware.
So flashing the 4.3 MJC firmware will restore the MJC bootloader, unbricking your phone.

For anyone who's facing this problem, I just used samsung Kies and it fixed the problem in less than 10 minutes. It boots fine w/o the sd card now.
My firmware was preserved, so I had no problems flashing newer roms.
It did, however, unroot my device, so just be prepared to redo that process.
Hi everyone!
My gf's GS3 is running CM11 but she runs across various issues in every custom ROM I flash onto her phone so I decided I should just flash stock 4.4.2. I have heard that in mobile Odin I should make sure that the modem or bootloader does not downgrade. I remember that I did flash the I747MVLUEMK5 bootloader and the I747MUMUEND3 modem. Is it safe to say that I can use mobile odin to flash stock 4.4.2 as well as the bootloader and modem without having the fear that it will downgrade one of those? I am thinking this because I flashed those files BEFORE kitkat was released, which has to mean that the 4.4.2 bootloader and modem are newer. Sorry if I'm not clear or that I repeat myself a lot I just try to spit all the information I have because the last thing I'd want is a bricked device.
Thanks Everyone!!!!
Only flash 4.4.2 with mobile odin if you have already fully updated to 4.4.2! It is not capable of flashing mist of the base firmware, including the bootloader. But it does flash the modem, and if you get a 4.4.2 modem on 4.3 firmware/bootloaders,...permanent brick!

Hi i have been trying to update my att SG3(rooted) 4.1.2 for a while now, when i try to update to 4.3 it says it does not have any update available but i know that this phone can go up to 4.4.2 kitkat,i have tried to do it with odin but unfortunaley i couldnt find the original firmaware in sam-mobiles ,plz help,it does not necesserly have to go to 4.3 if you guys also now a way to go directly to 4.4.2 it will be great.and i have also tried before rooting my phone, still didnt work.P.S:sorry for my bad english.
If you have the 4.1.2 bootloader on your phone, the simplest way would be to flash back to stock ATT 4.1.1 with Odin and use OTA update to get to 4.4.2.
Using Odin will wipe all of your data off your phone.
You can also odin flash MJB firmware available in the General section. Then you'd only need one ota to get to 4.4.2.

There are various pieces of software that need to be installed in order to all of the various functions to work. The main components are:
the bootloader http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...bootloader-on-android-phones-complete-guide/;
the modem/baseband http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baseband_processor; and
the operating system or ROM itself.
ATT never released a full firmware (ROM, bootloader, baseband) for 4.1.2 but they did for 4.1.1.
Since your phone is on 4.1.2, you would download the firmware from the previous post, download Odin, install the USB drivers, and flash the firmware.
ok,thank you both DocHoliday77 and audit13
Just a quick FYI, it's more than just the bootloader/modem. The firmware includes the following partitions:
aboot - bootloader
NON-HLOS.BIN - modem/baseband
RPM - resource and power management
sbl2/sbl3 - secondary bootloaders
TZ - Trust Zone
System - rom
Boot - kernel
Cache
Recovery
The first group MUST all match. If they don't it can hard brick.
(This is why I've always wondered why people on the AT&T forums always say to just update bootloader and modem. I'm used to referring to it as the base firmware if not including the system/rom components, or full firmware if including the system.)
Sorry, a little OT. Not anything to be overly concerned about, just me being overly technical is all.

Now that you're on 4.1.1, use the free method to sim unlock your phone before running OTA updates.
When you are in download mode, do you see the word "Custom" anywhere? Did you run triangle away before flashing back to 4.1.1?

Yes, I do.
If the baseband is unknown, how do you know you have the mjb modem on your phone?
Maybe you need to re-flash the 4.3 mjb modem. If that doesn't resolve the issue, you could try injecting the imei using nvwriter.

Hmmm...thats what i am actually thinking as of now....but looking for easy alternative like if we get the flashable zip or something of this baseband i can just flash it without taking backup of ROM and reinstall the ROM etc.....
But am looking for a site where i can download these basebands....
i take it you are trying to update the modem/baseband ihere you go. Must be done thru odin.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile/general/foh3-modem-bin-mdl-bootloader-t3191094
IMPORTANT: DO NOT CHANGE THE BOOTLOADER unless u KNOW EXACLY what you are doing...changing bootloader to the wrong bootloader will brick your device and some modem packages conatin bootloader. so make sure that you are getting a ODIN file that only contains the modems and no bootloader!
if you wish to properly update the bootlaoder and baseband properly ....just ODIN the OFFICIAL samsung release for your device and then re-root and reinstall recovery and then your rom.

Perfect....I will use this one....
And on S4 you don't even need to root before flashing TWRP and your ROM of choice. Just double flash the stock release with ODIN, let it boot up and make sure all is well, go into Camera to let it see if it needs a firmware update (happens automatically first time you run stock camera app), and when satisfied your phone is good, go into download mode, take TWRP + whatever else you want.
