I'm on the ATT version and in removing bloat software I may have removed something that took away the weather/time/smartcard widget that I liked. I tried adding back LG informant and a couple of others and when I added the widget it only shows the weather and time. Anyone can help me get the smart cards to show again?
On the same topic, are you guys using something else for smart cards? I was trying google now but it doesn't really show smart cards as a widget at least it didnt show for me.
I don't use smart notice, I'm not a widget fan at all. Did you uninstall them or freeze them? I can upload the necessary files just let me know.

Im not sure if this just isnt part of the OS yet but is there any app other than the email & text messaging apps that use push notifications? anyone know if its something that is directly related to multitasking or is it just a feature that was left out due to time constraints? I've tried looking up this info but havent had any luck. Thanks in advance for any info.
I don't know if there is an app that uses "push" right now but I believe 3rd part apps e.g. weather or other apps can use "push" if they want to.
I don't think there are any at the moment but someone will probably create one.
i have seen two. pageonce and i belive the weather channel's app does as well. i think it does at least....it updates the weather on the home tile every 4 hours...without launching the app...so i could assuming its using notifcations. but pageonce for sure uses it, i've been getting my notifications often.
yes 1st, 2nd, 3rd party apps can use push notification,There are a few apps out there weatherbug is anohter.. I have an app that uses push as well its going through the process now to be added to the marketplace.. it send you push alerts when you fav. tv show is about to air.
Hey World, does anyone know if there is a way to get the HTC notes widget to work on Launcher Pro. My wife is an avid notes taker and really liked that widget. I recently put launcher pro on there cause she liked how you can expand the home screen to hold more apps. If anyone knows of a way or maybe another widget that can flip pages like the HTC widget that would be cool. I've looked all over the market.
Anything sense = sense only.
If you really searched the market I have to believe you did not read.
I searched for notes widget, scrolled down twice and found an app called simple notes. It cycles the notes on the widget when you press the crease. I know this because 1. I read the app description and 2. I tried it.
There I did your work for you. Now go install it on your wifes phone and tell her you found it all on your own.
On my HTC Desire I could tap the location field in my calendar view and it'll open up gmaps and go straight to the location. The Galaxy s2 doesn't seem to be able to do that, are there any mods or apps that will let you?
replacement calendar
Jorte Calendar does what you need.
It's a full calendar replacement. It's free in Marketplace...

RXP, I had the same issue and looked around a bit. It seems the Samsung calendar app simply doesn't have this functionality. Jorte, mentioned in the post above mine, works well. I have also tried Calengoo and Business Calendar and both work well. I am hoping that eventually someone will work out how to mod the Samsung app itself though, since none of the replacement apps match the Samsung ones for appearance, even when colours are tweaked.
Damn, that's incredibly frustrating. Might have to import an apk from my Desire!
RXP, did you have any success getting an alternative app working? I am still not happy with the alternatives I have tried so keen to find out what other people are using. The ideal solution would still be a tweak to the Samsung app so it fits in with the rest of the phone, but I must admit I wouldn't know where to start.
Alternatively, does anyone know how to get the standard google calendar app working on the S2? Searching turns up instructions for the Galaxy S but not the S2.
Thanks to anyone who is able to help.
Partial solution
I have been trying to find a solution for this and found a couple of things. It seems a lot of alternative calendar apps use the system calendar app for their event view, which means that with the samsung calendar in place you cannot get clickable links even with something like Calendar Pad installed.
I was able to get the cyanogen mod calendar apk working (looks like it is pretty much stock gingerbread) after backing up and uninstalling the touchwiz calendar with titanium backup. There is a graphical glitch on some views where a circle appears in the top left corner but other than that it seems to work well. it also allows alternative apps like calendar pad to load the standard android event view which has clickable links.
Unfortunately I can still not get this to work in the samsung app to keep a consistent look to the apps but thought I would post in case this helped anyone.
I was missing the same functionality, installed 'Business Calendar Free'
- works a treat
I had a look at business calendar and the functionality was there. I am just trying to find some way to get the same functionality in the touchwiz app to keep a consistent theme across the phone. Is there any way to make this change or a dummies guide to exiting the aol?
Is anyone else having issues with the latest version (0.8.6) of Launcher Pro? Specifically in my case, it seems to have some kind of a memory leak. IF you can get it to respond, it goes away as soon as you restart the app from the menu. It starts off by giving you "Problem Loading Widget" messages on your homescreens, then just basically locks up the phone. I'd ask this on the Launcher Pro website, but they have more trolls than even this one...
I guess what I'd REALLY like to know is if anyone here has any idea if something "Tasker" can restart an app on a schedule?
i personally havent seen any issues like that. the only time i ever got the "Problem Loading Widget" is when I flash a new ROM and reload LPP and restore my homescreen setup. Havent seen it be a sieve of memory either
i've had somewhat similar issues with lpp. my minimalistic text widgets keep crashing (i get the "problem loading widget" box) and i have to remove and re-add them.
i also have another issue that's really been bothering me. dock notifications aren't fully working. my gmail and missed call notifications work, but not the sms notification. i'm wondering if this has something to do with me using go sms pro instead of the default messaging app?
edit: whoops, i wasn't paying attention to where this thread was housed. my issue with lpp is on a thunderbolt, just to be clear.
Is there a way, without downloading a 3rd party app, to get the samsung calendar and/or email widgets aside from what are on the magazine ux, which are a bit cumbersome in my opinion. I'd prefer to have the same widgets I have on my galaxy S5: full screen month view calendar widget, and the default email widget. Is there a way to do this, also, without doing a different launcher, like Nova, which I've tried and don't love.
Odd Samsung would strip these out, but they clearly want to push this magazine ux thing.
Thanks in advance for the help!
I am also looking for the calendar widget. Someone knows how to get it? I don't like this magazine ux

I too was annoyed at this. I didn't mind losing TouchWiz, but wanted to stay stock for potential future updates (please Google change SD card write access) so I downloaded the "Google Now Launcher" to get rid of the Magazine UX (although I didn't install "Google Now" so not to have that pop up on the home screen). I use "Pure Grid Calendar Widget" from the Play Store. If you choose the "4x4 free" calendar you can set the pixel count for your tablet/preference upon creating the widget. I have it around 1550x1550 pixels for my Tab Pro 8.4 and stretched it to fit most of the screen.
I liked Pure Grid Calendar Widget on my old HD2, but didn't need it on my S3 and S5 because the Samsung Calendar was similar. Enable events in the timeline to show descriptions in month view on the widget. I also wanted a full-screen email widget for 2 accounts, so I downloaded Aqual Mail, which looks and works similar to the S5 Email widget. I stretched that widget to full screen too (or square with some app shortcuts below it).
All in all, Google Now Launcher made the Home Screen interface seem less laggy (along with some adjustments to animations in Develop Options). Add in these two free apps (paid version unlocks additional features) and I it gives a similar feel to my S5 setup. I know you said you didn't want to download any apps, but this seems to be the only option (I didn't check Samsung Apps for a calendar though, don't know if they have something there).
***Note: I don't have any apps installed on the SD Card, but some people say that the shortcuts for apps installed on SD Cards disappear from the Home Screen if you use the Google Now Launcher.
