Weird Results when browsing nearby devices - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When browsing my DLNA external hard drive from my phone all I see is a bunch of squares with no file names. No folder organization or anything. If I press And hold on a square then I get a file name. I'm using gallery app to browse nearby devices am I doing it wrong? Is there a better way?
Here is a screenshot of what I see

Slow loading of HTC Album and Notes/Voice Rec app

Has anyone had this issue:
When calling notes, or the Voice Recorder app, or opening HTC Album, they take a very long time to become ready. The Album is usable but take 30-60seconds to populate the thumbnails, and the notes app just spins the wait icon for about the same time til its usable at all. It used to work fine...
I tried removing the storage card to see if its was the issue. Notes weren't ANY different, and the few wallpapers i had in internal storage still took longer than it should to show thumbnails.
Suggestions?
Well the problem was more extensive than I thought:
Every app that loaded a file browser, ex. Word/Excel/PPT/Voice Recorder/Notes/etc took a good 30-60 seconds to load and save, and to choose a new folder to browse.
The built-in "File explorer" responded normally and quickly. I had not installed the "file dialog changer" or the file explorer extension.
Turns out, it was the "expose Network folder to other programs" option in Resco File Explorer. I use it all the time to transfer stuff to and from my other machines, so its kind of annoying that either I have the network folder, or programs are speedy and usable. Don't remember this being an issue with my Touch Pro or my 6700.
I guess it timed out trying to search the network folder for various file types every time the file browser appeared in a program.
Hope this helps someone...
Yes, definitely. This did help me and probably saved me an awful lot of time.
So thank you very much for this hint!

Is it me or my new SGN2???

While I am used to my Thunderbolt, which I just put to rest for my new SGN2, I find myself doing a bit of comparing between the two phones.
I am rooted with JellyBomb 9.0 now, but I was always able to hook my Tbolt up to my PC and view pictures from my phone files (DCIM, etc...) as PICTURES. With this new SGN2, I only get to see icons (the icon says JPG with a mini icon for Microsoft office pictures attached to the JPG icon. I actually have to click on each icon to open the picture which is awful since I take so many pictures.
I also noticed that I can't send multiple pictures as attachments anymore like I used to with my Tbolt. It says I can only send one at a time and then I must reopen the phone file and scroll through everything all over again.
I also have issues getting my pc's to recognize my phone. I keep getting hardware id missing popping up next to my pc's clock. If I go back and forth between MTP and the PTP or unplug and replug enough times, occasionally the PC will find the phone.
Am I doing something wrong??????
I'm open to any and every suggestion
Thanks

As for your first question, I can view all my pictures on internal or external storage on my PC through "My Computer" as thumb nails everytime. Maybe it's how your viewing it or the program your using to view it.
As for your second question, simply go to your gallery open the album you want to send pics from. If you want to send multiple pics in one mage from food albums then make an album with the pics you want to send in it. Or just view all pics at once, hit 'Menu' then 'select multiple' small boxes appear at the top right of each pic. Click each pic you want one by one full your done. Then while the ones you want to send are selected hit the symbol to the top right next to delete which is the Share button. Then pick your method of sharing either email or messages etc. It will automatically loaf all the pics on one message, then compile any text with it if you wish. Fill out intended recipient and send.
In short to answer the thread. .. It's you

Twisted, Perhaps it's not me. You told me about your success on question #1 but didn't bother to explain what the issue might be.
The fact that you can see your pics internally or externally is wonderful, but how is that helping my problem??
Thanx for the twisted advice
I have the same issue and find it quite annoying. I've mostly had all HTC devices before and the sd card contents show up fine along with all hidden folders etc. I don't have the same view on my GN2. All the hidden files don't show and only jpeg icons. Stock Rooted Deodexed rom.

I have had the problem viewing picture as thumbnails also. In what I have researched, it may be Windows 7 and probably Vista and how it iteracts with both my GS3 and GN2. If you google " pictures not showing up as thumbnails in Windows...." you will get a ton of results. I have tried a couple, but havent gotten too deep into it yet. Something about the way Windows caches the thumbnails and eventually the cache is full and has to be cleaned out to keep seeing thumbnails instead of file icons. That might give you something to go on... Good luck.
I don't have any advise on the picture issue. I just don't take many pictures. I just use picture preview in file explorer and scroll to confirm which I want to upload to Flickr.
As for the Missing Hardware ID, I don't have a solution, but it is a known issue by Microsoft and Samsung; they blame each other from what I read. Basically, there is a wrong driver downloaded from Microsoft for the Samsung mobile drivers. Some people have had success using the earlier drivers; you have download and disconnect your computer form the internet completely before connecting your phone to your PC after installing the earlier drivers. I've done this, but still have the issue, but I can get it to work with fewer plugging and unplugging the usb cable.

No image thumbnails when viewing pic folder on PC

Ever since I got my S3 a few weeks ago when I look at the DCIM photo folder I don't get a thumbnail image of my photos or videos. This makes it very difficult to pull photos from my phone to my computer because I can't see what the photo is till its copied to my desktop. Anyone have any idea why its doing this or a fix for it?
With Windows 7 the only way to see thumbnails is to use Kies or remove your SDCard and mount it directly (assuming you are saving images to your card). Even though the MTP protocol supports thumbnails, Microsoft's implementation of it in Win7 doesn't. Whats weird is that even with the custom rom I use *Frosty I'm not able to see the thumbnails but when I changed to Ktoonez Kernel I was able view thumbnails, no clue why.
Search broken again??
Removing your SDcard and inserting it into your PC is probably the simplest solution other than using Kies. But if you don't want to hassle with taking of your case (if you have one) then you could try connecting it as a camera instead of MTP. If that doesn't work, you could use your cloud service of choice and manually upload the photos and access the cloud from your PC. Just my 2 cents, sorry if it was too common sense.
Thanks for the tips. I guess I was just used to my NexusS not doing this so I thought something was wrong with my S3 when it wouldn't show any thumbnails when looking at my photo folders. I figured out the Kies thing last night by chance when I was seeing what that did but I don't want to load extra software on my work PC. I guess I'll stick with moving them from my picasa instant upload folder to my PC.

Just a couple of really cool apps I found

Ok first is Sweet Home WiFi Picture Backup by SweeSoft.
It automatically uploads your pictures and videos to your home
computer when connected to your network and charging. You can
change what it uploads, where it uploads, and when it uploads. The
Free Alfa version works great for me with no limitations, I will
definelty be getting the donate version of this one.
Next is SanDisk Memory Zone by SanDisk Corp.
I found this totally by accident, it tests your sd cards speed,
shows how much space is left on internal and external sd cards,
and links to many online accounts to show how much space you have left.
It has its own file browser that lets you upload/download files between your
sd cards and online services. It also has a backup/restore feature
to the online services. I have found it very useful managing files across
several logins/accounts.
Finally is one I found in an old Titanium folder from my EPIC 4g
It is Called WifiBackup w/ 2-Way Sync by MobileFramework
I was only able to find a reference to it on AppBrain but no file, there
is a WifiBackup Pro for 1.99 but it hasn't been updated in a while. This
app was a favorite because you could set it to run at a certain time or hit it
manually and it would backup your entire sd card over wifi to your pc. Set up
was a breeze and it syncs both ways. I'm not sure yet if it backups both internal
and external. I will update post when first sync finishes.
So what are your best/coolest apps?

For me, I love DiskUsage along with Solid Explorer. It's a great tool combo to see what's eating up your internal and external SD storage.

Twicca - My other twitter client I had used before Tweetings.

If you like twitter apps, I really like Falcon. It has a great UI and it has a separate widget thats really great also.
Thanks for the other input fellas.
I've been using Tweedle as my everyday twitter client for a while. I see no reason to change yet.

Heres how i did it.
In win7 set up another user account with admin rights.
Go to root directory on your PC and create a folder to save the pics in.
Right click on folder and choose share with, in blank box click arrow then the new user name then add.
In the bottom box to the right of the new user name click read and then change it to read/write.
It will then give you the share name. You'll need this and the new user/password.
In Sweet Home App Use full settings
Automatic Upload chooses when the app uploads your pictures
Select Collections chooses which folders on your phone to upload
Next
if your connected to your WIFI at home just choose next. You have to be connected to your home network for the set up.
Next
enter your user name and password in to the user information boxes.
under Network Share Press button to browse.
Press IP/Name and enter your computers name or internal ip address. Then your back button. Choose your share folder. Then your back button.
Next
in Organize folders I chose '-' and Seperate Collections
The first one decides how it groups your photos i chose none. '2013' would group them in folders by year taken '2013/01' would group them in folders by years and month. The Seperate Collections keeps the folder names you have set up on your phone. So pictures in Camera\vacation on the phone would be saved as Camera\Vacation. if you grouped by '2013' you would get Camera\vacation\2012 Camera\Vacation\2013 .....
That should get you going. The biggest pain is making windows share the folder. I have noticed it hangs up on large videos sometimes but i think it might be my router as the only thing that fixes it is to unplug and replug the router. Rebooting the PC, rebooting phone, Cycling WIFI on/off, or clearing app cache wouldn't let it start back up, but unpluging and repluging the router has fixed it everytime.
Hope that helps

Dropbox and other cloud services are great if you have the extra space. I usually take lots of pics and videos that would use up the initial 5gb pretty quick, plus having to upload and then download back to computer. Once you get the windows part done you are pretty well set. File managers like astro and solid explorer can then be setup so you can access your PC shares from your phone for easy file transfers without plugging in.

File name nmdsdcid, no file extension, 38 bytes not sure what this is but I...

F681A192-8642-4396-A188-81041A34CD49
The number above is what appears when I open the file I'm the html viewer.
Every time I delete this file it reappears, but only if I'm connect to a network via WiFi or cellular. This file is not on my external sd card/removable sd card but rather on the phones storage.
I read somewhere that it has to deal with music setting for some mp3 but I don't buy it. Please any help or further study into this would be awesome cuz I'm stumped. I'll attach a photo when the filename.noextention shows up again.
Thanks

Do you download music? And where from? It's probably some key used to play downloaded music but just a guess.
I do download music. But this is a new phone and I recently factory reset it but before that I removed all music files except for things that came with the phone. I even removed the removable sd card all together just to be sure
I downloaded from multiple sources. Mainly soundcloud, sometimes bandcamp.com, less often mp3juices and some others.
In addition, I don't even have to play a particular song or music extension ie. Flac, wav, acc, etc... For the nmdsdcid.noextention to reappears. All that's required is an active connection and time
Even using different music playing apps the file won't reappear in the file manager.
Lastly it's not in any particular folder, which gives even less clues to which app or other file created it. It's just sitting under all my folders in:
Device/sdcard
When it reappears I'll attach a photo to this post.
That hexadecimal number changed
