[Q] How to hide OTA update notification? - Sprint LG G2

Does anyone know a method specific to the G2? I'm not worried about missing out on Knock Code right now and don't want to go through the effort required to unroot and root again and reinstall TWRP, but this notification just does not want to go away. I've seen similar threads but for other phones and wanted to make sure this phone doesnt have its own method for system update hiding.

You have to be rooted and use a file explorer to rename otacerts.zip or go under app settings and uncheck notifications for Google Services Framework.

can't seem to disable the notification

OK, I have done both, but cannot seem to disable the "System update downloaded" Notification.
1st I disabled the "Notification" from Google Services Framework and this didn't seem to make the message go away, even after a reboot.
2nd: I renamed the system etc security otacerts.zip file to otacerts.zip.bak using adb shell.
using these commands:
adb shell
# su
# mount -o rw,remount /system
cd /etc/security
# mv otacerts.zip otacerts.zip.bak
#exit
exit
These two things didn't seem to work. I also, don't care about the update if I need to unroot, and reflash.
Anyone have any ideas?
thanks

I also renamed /system/app/LGFOTA.apk
and cleared the Google services: Settings -> Apps -> All -> Google Services Framework -> Clear data
message is gone.

I deleted the file, instead of renaming it. I also just held down the notification, went to App info and unchecked the box. Rebooted and had no issues afterwards.

root

Ok, to save some people some time here for rooting and opening it up to non-market apps on your bravo, and probably any motorola AT&T device.
1. Z4Root is the easiest way to root since you just get it from the market. One buttons press then done.
2. to modify the settings.db in /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/ use the SuperOneClick which you can get here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
3. I used root explorer, which you can get from the market and just edited the /system/etc/motorola/com.android.providers.settings/secure.mkitso
and /system/etc/motorola/com.motorola.android.providers.settings/settings.mkitso files in place. Copying them, editing them, and chmodding them didn't seem to work for me for whatever reason. The way I did it, you don't have to do anything other than edit the file in text editor and factory reset your phone.
Rooted mine the other day using the Droid 2 root method at modmymobile.
I can't post links yet, so here's the instructions:
dragonius said:
Setup:
- Make sure you have ADB installed properly and the latest Motorola drivers.
- Download attached archive
- Extract to a directory, I used C:\Droid2Root
- Make sure you have USB degugging enabled
- Change connection to PC Mode
Process:
- Open Command Prompt (Start - Run - cmd - Enter)
- adb devices (to verify the connection)
- cd C:/Droid2Root
- adb push Superuser.apk /sdcard/Superuser.apk
- adb push su /sdcard/su
- adb push busybox /sdcard/busybox
- adb push rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
- adb shell
- cd data/local/tmp
- chmod 0755 rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
- ./rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
- Let the process run until the prompt returns you to C:/Droid2Root (be patient, it takes a while, but does happen. If not, reboot phone and try again.)
- adb devices (to verify the connection)
- adb shell (you should now have a # prompt)
- mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
- cp /sdcard/Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.apk
- cp /sdcard/su /system/bin/su
- cp /sdcard/busybox /system/bin/busybox
- chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
- chmod 4755 /system/bin/busybox
- mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
- exit
Once you have achieved root, to update the Superuser.apk to the latest version, run these commands:
- adb shell
- su
- mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
- rm /system/app/Superuser.apk
- pm uninstall com.noshufou.android.su
Then search on the market for Superuser and download the one by ChainsDD. Confirmed working on latest Droid2 2.2 OTA & the new leaked 2.3.15 OTA.

On the Bravo its not "PC Mode", I think its "Portal and Tools" Other then that, everything worked flawlessly.
Thanks, a bunch. I actually used the Z4Root app from the market and it worked flawlessly. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to allow non market apps and maybe get an overclock going on this. any suggestions?

I just bought this phone for my younger brother and I'm impressed. I have a Droid Incredible and its just as smooth. I also verified that the Z4root app from the marketplace roots the phone.
Did anyone get it unlocked yet
Yeah, it's a great phone. I'm trying to get the settings.db thing to work so we can install non-market apps, but it doesn't seem to be working. I got the db modded and put back in place, but I still don't see the option in the application manager screen.
IMO this is the #2 android phone on AT&T next to the captivate. that SAMOLED is great and the GPU on the captivate is top notch.
Anyway, if anyone can assist on the non-market app thing that would be great.
So far, I have rooted with Z4Root, removed the AT&T crapware, installed the MarketAccess to get around the stupid AT&T market filters. Last thing is to get the non-market apps going. After that it's a matter of waiting for this device to gain popularity and some custom ROMs.
I managed to get my Bravo to install non-market apps using:
1. SuperOneClickv1.5.5-ShortFuse
2. Click Here
I am not sure if just step 2 alone would be OK though.
Remember, you have to factory reset after you have finished with step 2.
Good Luck!
I edited my original post with the steps and tools I used to get the phone rooted and non-market unlocked.
Wait so can some explain how to unlock it?

If you mean "unlock" as in able to use the phone on a different carrier no one has posted how to do it yet. The OP meant allowing non-market apps.

No problem
I'm lost here,
Downloaded z4root onto my phone because it's not available on Market,
but it won't let me run the z4root.apk because it's not a market app.
total newb here, so any help would be appreciated.
thanks
Nevermind, got z4 to install using Android Central's Sideload Wonder Machine, then rooted my phone no problem, installed TiTanium backup, and rid of the bloatware.
Phone processes quicker, from settings, fetching list of running apps, data manager, manager etc, list loads much quicker now.
How did you go about getting rid of the garbage-ware? curious.
Hi I'm posting here in hopes to get a response because I cannot seem to get a response on the S1C forum. I rooted with z4root but cannot get non market apps enabled using S1C. I have .net framework 4.0 using vista and the motorola drivers from their site. I get as far as "getting mount path" and then it fails. Am I missing something or should this be working for me. And if so, what could be the problem? Many thanks.
SideloadWonderMachine worked for me, give it a shot. 2 clicks to add an app. Pretty foolproof (I am a fool).
Rooted my Bravo using adb install z4root (linux PC) then ran z4root from phone, worked great.
just rooted Bravo using Droid2Root files and manual ADB commands, from the thread that Gumpo10k shared in this thread, up above. Worked great, now I need a good 2.2 ROM to get tethering working.

Applications safe to remove

Requires Root
From your Phone:
1.
You can use/ download Root Explorer from the Android Market which costs ..
$3.79
In Root explorer:
Make sure you select R/W (read and write) to get out of R/O (read only) mode at the top of Root Explorer
Push menu ->Search->Search Term
ex. "SprintTV.apk" ->
Delete results that have the search term in it.
2.
Or use Sdx Stock app remover
This app can be downloaded and installed to any phone With Root. It has been tested and has been proven to work on many phones. There have been mention of some issues - please post if you do encounter problems.
Purpose:
It can be used to backup and remove any of the stock apps found in /system/app/. There's also a feature that will allow you to control whether /system/ is mount read/write (see settings->Auto mount)
Simply select all apps you want to delete... it will ask for SU permissions ...
3.
Third method is the good old ADB Method ...
Make sure you have the Samsung drivers installed on your PC.
They should be available to download directly from Samsung Shortly at this Webpage:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/SPH-D710ZKASPR
Install drivers make sure USB debugging is on then connect it to your computer..
Make sure you have the Android SDK installed for adb shell on your computer.
Windows/Linux/Mac download at this link:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Open Command Prompt
Navigate to your android sdk installation folder. It it's directly in C: then type this below.
Type each step one at a time, or copy and right click paste in command prompt (do not control+v)
1. cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools>adb shell
2. $ su
3. # mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
4. # cd /system/app
5. # ls
6. # rm Stock.apk
7. # rm Stock.odex
On steps 6-7, replace "Stock.apk" and "Stock.odex" with apk's you want to remove.
Step five lists the currently installed programs on your phone.
_________________________________________________________________
As people start removing apps please list on this thread which apps are safe to remove from the ROM, please post them here, along with what functionality is lost, including which "app" as it shows in the drawer, gets removed.

I've seen several posts and reviews that say you are allowed to remove all Sprint bloatware through the normal Applications manager. No root needed.

This, coupled with unlocked bootloader, is fantastic. Samsung, and to a smaller extent Sprint, deserves some love for these decisions.
If they come through on the consumer phones they absolutely do. I hope that Samsung does stick with this.

Now we just need root!!!
I use System App Remover from the market which not only will remove system apps (if rooted) but has an "assisst mode" which color codes all the system apps according to their risk of removing.

[Q] How to re-enable the stock launcher (or any disabled app)???

i am still trying to figure out how to re-enable com.lge.launcher2 as it was disabled and i have no idea how to get it back as primary launcher via command line in ADB.
I can't install it from the SDcard or as an attachment as it says "Application Not Installed" (maybe protected????).
tried "pm install -r com.lge.launcher2 -f" and get:
pkg: com.lge.launcher2 - Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE]
anyone have any ideas??
Did you just switch launchers or did you freeze it with nobloat/titanium backup? If you are trying to do it with abd are you doing it from a shell terminal or just adb from a command prompt? Did you issue the su command to give yourself superuser priveledges?
I downloaded Go Launcher and switched launchers then did a backup with titanium backup, but when i rebooted after a hard reset (trying things on your phone and screwing up can make that happen sometimes LOL!!) it showed up in TB with a line through it and i cannot restore it, as when i hit restore in TB it hangs at the restore screen.
i am using ADB shell from a PC with XP home.
and yes, after 26 years using computers (and loving linux since 13!!) i did use SU to elevate me to SuperUser.
Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications
Go to the launcher that you made default and click the 'Clear defaults' button.
---------- Post added at 09:24 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:23 AM ----------
But you may be looking for something more advanced as it sounds like you may have deleted/removed the application?
clear defaults for the current launcher is not available, greyed out. I wonder if the LGhome2.apk and obex need to be signed or something. i am stumped.
Here's what i have done so far:
copied the LGHome2.apk and LGHome2.obex to the /system/apps/ directory
changed permissions and ownership to the same as other files in the directory
tried renaming them to com.lge.launcher2.apk and com.lge.launcher2.obex, no change.
pm enable lghome2 -f
and
pm install lghome2 -f
pm enable com.lge.launcher2 -f
and
pm install com.lge.launcher2 -f
I went as far as setting the /system and /system/app to Read/Write for the install.
All i get is:
pm install LGHome2
pkg: LGHome2
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE]
i'm outta my scope now, HELP!?!

Square Enix Chaos Rings (Force Close Root Workaround)

Hey, just in case anyone else shelled out the money for SE's new Android release, Chaos Rings and couldn't play due to being rooted...
All you need to do to be able to play is rename your SuperSU.apk/superuser.apk in the /system/app folder (I just added, ".bak" to the filename) and the force close will end. Of course, you will probably want to rename the apk back to normal once finished
EDIT:
Cooldoud has a script on post #5 which, with Script Manager, should offer a widgetable solution to quickly renaming the superuser/supersu apk

Renaming is easy - busybox mv <source> <dest>
It's calling the app that I'm not certain about.
Yep found that out too... Really can't figure out why they went through the hassle of implementing such a lame system... Anyway, I wrote the below script for my gnote, it will toggle supersu so you can use the same widget to enable and disable supers.
After that install script manager, and set the script to be executed as root. You can then just create a widget to easily access the script
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /system
if [ $? -ne 0 ]; then
echo "Failed to remount /system as rw"
exit
fi
if [ -f "/system/app/Superuser.apk" ]; then
echo "Disabling Superuser App..."
mv /system/app/Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.bak
mount -o remount,ro /system
echo "All Done"
else
echo "Enabling Superuser App..."
mv /system/app/Superuser.bak /system/app/Superuser.apk
mount -o remount,ro /system
echo "All Done"
fi

You must make sure you convert your newline characters to Unix format. Wondows-style newline will cause the error you're getting (well if we're talking about the same error )
You can use notepad++ or Google dos2unix for a command line tool.

Probably yes, might also want to take it out of the Epic 4G section and move it to general Android as this is going to affect all devices

Looks like you're not using the busybox binaries. Maybe try replacing "mount" by "busybox mount"? Problem is I don't know what shell you'd be using so that might still not be working. Are you using the international Note? What ROM?
Also double check whether you're using SuperSU.apk or Superuser.apk as your root configuration tool.
I have no idea how all these scripts work, so I just tried to change the name of my superuser.apk, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to do that. My phone insists that I have insufficient privileges to rename it...
It seems that they finally added "*This game cannot be played on rooted devices." to the app description, it was not there yesterday
Well, I went and researched scripts. Got this script to work. (Had to add "busybox" before "mount")
Checked that the app does get renamed to .bak, and yet I still get a force close when i press start. I guess I'll just have wait for SE's patch.
It's important to check that the application is not appearing in your app drawer anymore (if your launcher can detect the app, so can SE... ) . Go there and check, if the app is still appearing it means it is still accessible (not sure whether you then need a reboot for it to disappear or something?), if it's not there... it means SE is also checking some other stuff to determine whether you're rooted, but I have no idea what that would be.
Ah yes, that's it. It still shows in my app drawer. Reboot didn't help. Trying searching the issue, came up with nothing. I guess I'm not meant to play this game just yet lol. Thank for trying to help!

[Q] Google Plus: no map on location

Hello everybody,
i noticed an issue this morning with google plus.
As i think you know, latitude is going to disappear and i activated the location share on google plus.
But when i go into local, i can see all my friends sharing their positions, but the map doesn't show... as a matter of fact, i see icons on a empty display.
I tried to reboot, to clear cache and dalvik, also to remove and re-install google plus app, but nothing changed... have you some idea? what kind of problem is this?
Thanks,
Claudio
Same problem here on my Nexus 4 with CM 10.1. Aso reboot, reinstall, etc. does not help.
Maybe somebody else knows how to resolve this issue.
Same here on my Nexus 4. CM 10.1.1.
This issue doesn't seem to be reported anywhere else. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this.
Yeah, it's true.
I tried to google the problem, but i can't find any report

MAKE SURE YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR FILE EXPLORER
Claude Robinson on G+:
"Google plus needs to be a system app in order for locations to work. There is an adb method but I don't know how to do that so I did it manually with root explorer.
First you need to go to /data and move com.google.apps.plus-1.apk to /system/app then you have to go to /data/app-lib/com.google.apps.plus-1 move all the files out of that folder into /system/lib reboot and you're done. You should now have the locations feature with maps working. While you are moving Google plus it will force close on you. Just hit OK until you are done and can reboot."
If you have any issues try clicking on the .apk to install it while it is in system/app. I cleared my data, but I don't know if that is necessary. My maps are working again.
