[Q] 64 GB MicroSD card & OTG cable.....

Hi Fellow FLO owners!
Has anybody had any luck when using a 64 GB MicroSD card with their OTG cable?
I have already unlocked the bootloader and loaded a custom recovery and rooted my device, I then replaced my 32 GB microSD card with a new 64GB hooked up to my OTG cable via the USB port. For the life of me, I cannot read the newly formatted 64 GB MicroSD card? Has anyone tried this yet with a 64 GB sized card and was able to read their data? Was there something special I needed to do as well, download some other app or what have you?
If so, please tell me HOW you got that working or PM me.
Thanks!
Far-from-new-to-rooting and unlocked bootloaders, but, baffled nevertheless.

While I don't have a tablet in my hands yet to confirm or deny this theory, my guess is this:
A 64GB microSDXC card is going to come preformatted with exFAT; your stock Nexus 7 can't read exFAT partitions.
You can either reformat the card, or use a program to mount exFAT partitions (like this thing), or install a ROM that can read exFAT partitions (CyanogenMod 10.2 can do so; so can others, probably).
Ah, that sounds good, I shall give it a try and report back on my results! Thanks very much!!!

Oh, before I forget to mention it:
What recovery are you using? There's a very good chance it will be able to read / format the card for you.
Really? TWRP v 26.00
Oh well, I already reformatted it to NTFS now, the Paragon App didn't work. Currently, recopying files over now to the microSD card as we speak, will take about an hour.
Thanks again!

SD card help [not very technical]

Hi all, basically before i posted i read the [GUIDE] The Generic SD Issue (READ FIRST) post, but im still confused and lost.
Basically i have bought a huawei ascend y300 and Tesco Hudl [for budget prices these punch above their wieght in specs] well i also bought 2 SD 32gb cards and was going to load them up with music, tv shows etc but i cant.
Basically both devices say theres TOTAL SPACE 31.24gb and i can unmount / mount but i can only erase on my phone not the tablet. when i put the SD cards into my lappy it pops up with SD 31gb and i can put files on it and ive then tried it on my pc and works fine.
But if i use Apps2sd its saysthere is no external card inseted, yet in the storage setting it says 32gb???? Is there something im missing?
Sorry for being long winded, no sure on the tech terms.

Easy test
Hello,
Easiest way to test, get SanDisk product for comparison. They always seem to work better than others. If you have same issues then you don't have SD card problem. If SanDisk card works then your other SD cards are the problem.
I am assuming your device can support 32GB SD card.
I hope this helps.

SD Card usage?

so i keep reading that from KitKat, SD Cards are locked down so this how locked down is this on this phone.. what can/can't be stored on the card? ie can say
movies be played from the SDCard?
this kinda will make decide between 16GB or 32GB model.

If you are rooted, install this app from the play store and run it once and reboot. Your apps will now have full access to the external sdcard like it was before KitKat.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix
but i am talking without rooting...
why sell a 16GB devices with a SD CARD if you cant use it unless u root it.. kinda makes it point less and more weight to get the 32GB model.. either this or some other phone.
I would presume LG tweak to the O/s has enabled access which is what i am curious if this is the case.
anyone confirm this without ROOT?
Of course you can keep your files on the card. I have music and movies there. There are apps that detect the presence and allow you to save directly on the sd card - like the stock lg camera does. You don't need root to do any sorcery here for regular usage.

Without root and the permission fix I referenced earlier, you will have the stock KitKat permissions when it comes to apps reading/writing to the External SD Card. Some things work, and other things won't. You may or may not notice it, as it all depends on what you use the external sdcard for...

[Q] tab pro can save to some sd cards only

Hi guys.
let me say first that I am aware of whole writing/permission issue with KitKat.
And I am happy to use the build in file manager to copy stuff around.
But as I had some issues with my sd card(files were copied then dissapear etc) I bought Samsung! Sd card Class10 32GB and to this card i am not able to write at all!
I can format, create a folder but that's about it. Not able to copy anything using the 'internal' file manager.
Everything works fine if I can connect the card via OTG.
Any ideas? As i am stacked now with 2 SD cards I cannot use.
And btw with all this write restriction explanations. Why I cannot write to internal card slot only?! If it is OTG I can do anything with any application. Somehow all the explanations I have read do not add up in this part.
Any enlightment highly appreciated.
Cheers

Sounds to me like you bought a counterfeit /fake MicroSDCard , if you purchased it off ebay then chances are it's a fake. the packaging looks identical to real Samsung products and it is very hard to tell the difference.
Do you have a card reader for your pc, you can do a test on it to tell if its fake, there are several programs that can do this but the most popular is H2testw .
Take a look at these threads for more info

http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/accessories/fake-samsung-evo-64gb-micro-sd-cards-t2852818
The issue you are describing where files just disappear is a telltale sign of these fake or counterfeit cards, usually the cards only have about 2GB of writable space and the rest is bad memory.
Btw on a side note: I have no problems on my tab pro 8.4 , I have every single GB of my Sandisk 64gb sdcard filled. and have no problems with it..

Best SD Card filesystem?

Hello all,
I got myself a 128GB micro sd off Amazon. I was wondering if anyone had tried out a different filesystem than what is on the card as standard.
As standard it comes with Exfat, would something like ext4 be a good improvement?
Help and advice would be great, thanks =)
I think you should try this official tool from SDA to format your card the best possible. https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/
I just usually let the phone format it for me, and go from there. Never had a problem that way.

+1 same here the only difference between the two (fat32 and ext) is that one allows the transfer of files over 4GB. Iirc anyway. Just not sure which.
Thanks everyone =)
Will let the phone do the deciding
Just do ExFat. it allows for large files to be stored (backups) and has very quick read and write speeds as compared to Fat32.
