Hello I am currently living in Argentina where 3g is in the 850MHz/1900MHz range.
I use to have a Motorola ATRIX 4G and worked perfect on 3g.
Now I have an SGH-I747 and can only get EDGE signal. If I look at my network it only sees it as EDGE.
Have tried:
1. On stock rom, tried changing the frequency of WCDMA to 1900MHz and would loose all connection even GSM.
2. Flashed with CyanogenMod and now have the latest modem for the I747 (actually when installing it recognized my cellphone as AT&T Canadian version which does not make sense).
One last comment, my old phone had HSDPA and this phone has HSPA+ (are these compatible?)
Any help would be deeply appreciated!

The cellphone was factory unlocked. I bought it from EBAY.
I had bought it as a i9300 and even the sticker behind the battery says GT-i9300 but the cellphone is an SGH-i747 from the specs and Cyanogenmod recognized it as that (I ran Phone Info and CPU identifier to get that it was a d2att model with dual core and 2gb of ram).
How do I fix or find out if the nv file is broken?
Thanks in advance!
You said you have the latest modem installed. Does this mean you have the NE4 (4.4.2) modem, and if so had you fully updated to 4.4.2? If not, what is your base firmware build?
If you don't know, open Terminal Emulator and enter this:
getprop ro.bootloader
If you are running the NE4 modem on 4.1.2 or earlier firmware, you'll probably need to go back to a matching one, or fully update to the latest firmware.
Note: running the 4.4.2 modem on 4.3 firmware will hard brick your device.
While you are checking all of this, also make sure your IMEI matches the one on the sticker under the battery.

It probably won't match if the phone says SGH-747 and the battery says GT-9300.

Ok here is the info you asked for:
My phone is a d2att / d2lte
The bootloader and Baseband Version are I747UCUEMBJ
(I don't know if these are the NE4 Modem, but I searched for modem files and these seemed to be the latest one out there)
I am running Cyanogenmod 4.4.4
IMEI number on the back and using Phone Info Match! That is weird...
Id flash the full stock 4.3 firmware with Odin, factory reset and test it out.
(Factory resetting with stock recovery will wipe your internal sd card, so back it up first)

Where can I find stock 4.3 rom for SGH-I747. I looked at SamMobile but they only have up to 4.1.1?
Thanks!
Enewman17 has it in the development section I think. Someone else has it in General too. Both are safe to use.
i think this could be it. double check though please.

Nah, not a big deal man. IME, you can actually learn a lot more by trying help folks out. If you ever mention something that's incorrect, someone will usually post a correction fairly quickly. Or in a case like this, Odin would have prevented anything from being flashed, so there wasn't really much to worry about other than time spent.
Anyway, don't let getting something wrong discourage you. Happens to everyone regardless of how well versed they are on a particular subject!

Did everything, the stock rom installed perfectly but I am still only getting Edge reception.
I really don't know what it could be, the frequencies are supported (850 and 1900).
I use to have a Motorola Atrix which has the same triband and it worked perfectly.
Could it have something to do with the difference between HDSPA and HSPA+?
Here in Argentina the international model GT-I9300 works with 3G.
Thanks again!
HSDPA/HSUPA are basically just part of HSPA. The D=downlink U=Uplink
So I doubt that has any real bearing on the problem.
The i9300 is a very different device and I know little about it, so I cant say much there.
Can you borrow a sim card to try? Or a device to test your sim in?

I still have the Motorola Atrix, and have been using it with my chip for a while with 3G. I will try my chip in that phone again just in case to see if there is anything wrong with my network.
The Motrola Atrix has the following network frequencies: WCDMA 850/1900/2100 MHz, GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz.
The Samsung SGH-I747 has the following network frequencies: 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz GSM / GPRS / EDGE, 850, 1900, 2100 MHz UMTS / HSPA+.
They should be compatible on the same network right? Or is there a difference between WCDMA and UMTS/HSPA+ ?
I will try the chip just in case and have an answer by tomorrow!
its just a guess since we dont know for certain its the problem, but notice that the 2100 band is WCDMA on your moto, but is for GPRS/EDGE (2G) on the S3. Might have something to do with it. But im not sure. Depends on what bands AT&T uses for which network technology. (someone else would probably be better equipped to answer that though since im not with AT&T)

Hello everyone,
I picked up a 2nd hand white Note 2 I317M, Canadian variant, with the intent of using with Mobilicity, which uses AWS 1700 bands. So, after I got it, I applied this mod to enable AWS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068041 . Unfortunately, even after flashing the QCN file, the phone did not detect Mobilicity. I rooted the phone and installed skynote 8 ROM then flashed the QCN file to unlock the AWS bands, it still didnt detect Mobilicity. I then followed this guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2026569 and installed a T-mobile ROM, then flashed the QCN file, and it still didnt detect Mobilicity. The only networks it shows are CDN ROAMING (aka Rogers), TELUS, and some other network I cant remember. I even downgraded to stock 4.1.1 and applied the QCN, with no luck. I have two friends who have Canadian i317M Note 2s, with the AWS QCN patch applied, and both of them are using them on Mobilicity and Wind with no issues whatsoever. Does anyone have any idea whats going on here? Please help
Thanks!
EDIT: Also want to mention that earlier today when I had Skynote running, the phone connected automatically to Mobilicity after leaving it by itself for a long while. However, it couldnt call or do anything, and signal strength was very bad. After I did a reboot, the phone wouldnt find Mobilicity anymore

Hey slickflick, did you do anything else?
I downgraded to 4.1.1 as well and flashed it, and it still doesn't work for me.
I had the same problem as yours. I first downgraded to 4.1.1, flashed the qcn file and reboot, it didn't detect wind. I put back 4.1.2, flashed it again, it didn't detect. In the end I put it into recovery mode, did a reset and reboot, it detected wind. Then everything works!
After I have applied the the ATT_I317_AWSMOD_dumimei.qcn file (provided by sjravi) on my Rogers SGH-I317M, it's only able to connect to the Wind network only 1/10 of the time.
Under "About device->Status", it does appear to be connected to the "Wind Home" network but it fails to establish connection with the mobile network. In fact, when I try to search for network operators, it can't find anything.
I've tried setting the Service Mode to "Automatic" and "WCDMA ALL", but nothing works.
I own a rogers i317m note 2 have had it on rogers since January 2013..
Today I devided to unlock it! (After a years of *****ing about rogers):
-First I downgraded to version 4.1.1
-Then following the guide on this form to get into the menu with the *# what ever command. I unlocked the phone (make sure to wait the 30 seconds and 60 seconds they recommend after clicking the options) then tested it on a bell sim which worked.
-Then I updated back to 4.1.2
-Next I downloaded the qcn file thing off this site for att device changed the usb option in the hidden menu then backed my file up then restored the downloaded qcn as mine and rebooted put in a wind sim had to go under mobile networks let it search for about a minute and it worked.
Been on winds network for about 9hours now with no problems. Sorry for horrible grammar posted this of my phone.. but if anyone here is having issues with there rogers phone on aws network feel free to message me.

did u get it working?? i have the note 2 i317 originally from telus...got it unlocked and then used the forum's tmobile rom and patch the qcn and it worked. i can use it both on mobilicity and wind right now.... mobilicity however has poor reception. when i switched to wind , reception is strong and my battery lasted longer too.. dunno why... just make sure when u patch the qcn, make sure there are 2 ports which u apply one on. that's how i troubleshoot it and didnt need to install anything else
I followed the instructions on unlocking the AWS bands (did it to 2 buddies Note 2 phones, and worked without issue). However, my phone OCCASIONALLY will find Wind, and will only register on main roads.
I have an S4, and it works anywhere without issues (unlocked AWS bands also), but the Note 2 will not register except main roads, and even then has choppy service.
Used the AT&T qcn file that is found on this site. Not sure if there is something I am missing for the Note 2.
Looks like the same issue as nawkwan.
Please help
Hi,
I have note 2 from AT&T at 4.1.1 with I317UCALJ2 and I took t-mobile connection, I can not have mobile hotspot on. Also I get call drops and less 4G connection as compared with my wife's iPhone 5, she is having consistant 4G and mobile hotspot. I called t-mobile they changed my APN settings to fast-t-mobile.com, but it did not work much, then I was reading a forum and I dialed *#2263# and selected WCDMA ALL (when I did that my APN in the settings changed back to epc.tmobile.com). Now I am getting 4G band but still no mobile hotspot.
My phone is unlocked, I unlocked my phone using the key combinations posted in this forum last year. What should I do to make my phone more usable?
Thanks

I tried that, still no luck, should I put any custom ROM? if yes then which one?
No rom yet....
Since you are changing carriers entirely...have you cleaned the device to make sure no bad data is present ??
I would suggest doing a factory reset to clean the device....
Then enter in the T-Mobile APN again and test...
If the process does not help ...a new or different modem may be needed to improve your signal...
All of the steps to do this are in the general and development sections...and you should begin by searching and reading the steps....
Go slowly...until you understand the process...and only then should you attempt any flashing....
We will be here to help....but you need to learn the process if you intend to flash files to this device...
Start in the "everything" thread in the general section....
It covers the basics of root and flash procedure...and how to avoid mistakes that catch several people...
And do not update your device via OTA...
It will give you a Knox bootloader...and that is not good for users...especially new users to flashing...
Read much....learn much...and only then should you flash....g

are you seeing LTE signal? if not, then you are on T mobile's legacy 3g or possibly the reformed 1900 hspa. Since the phone will not get 42mbps hspa, your speed maybe a bit lower due to 21mbps hspa. I am using the phone on t mobile network and do not have issue. i did have the latest att modem. When I was on the 4.1 rome, I did flashed the latest modem before the 4.3 rome.

factory reset should not change your unlock. The phone should stay as SIM unlocked (if that is what you meant). Once it is sim unlocked, it will stay as unlocked. It should not affect your root either as factory reset (though I am not 100% sure since I have custom rom so cannot remember if stock rom will remove root). Often it is best to stay with the same modem as the rom version. Here is the link to the modem list: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987541

Who is your carrier?
Did it work previously? If so when did it start doing this? Did you recently flash anything?
Do not try messing with the NV Data. This should only be done if deternined to be absolutely necessary and only after other options have been explored. Ive helped fix a lot of devices where a simple modem or firmware flash wouldve worked, but people went straight to trying to fix the IMEI. If its determined thats what is needed, ill gladly help with it, but in your case it doesnt sound like that would make a difference at this point.

simple is that after unlocking i747m there is no 3g reception. imei is matched just /7 extra shows when I check using command *#06# . everything is fine and it is on 4.4.2 stock rom SaskTel carrier which I flash using odin. problem occurs after unlocking.
That is strange. No idea why unlocking it would have broken 3g.
I would backup any important data, including the internal sd card, then reflash the firmware and factory reset.
You can also try this either before or after a firmware flash (or both). Follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2211690
This is generally used to solve GPS issues, but has been known to help with other problems as well. Might get lucky!

Is your baseband showing as NE6 or NF2? If so your modem should be fine. No other build will work anyway. And as far as messing with the NV data, i dont recommend it. I wouldnt know where anything related to the sim lock would be, and if you make a mistake it could really mess things up. What NV file are you referring to btw?

Its very possible that the new carrier broadcasts their signal using different bands/frequencies than what the device uses.
This site will show you your devices Cellular Network capabilities.
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=4731&c=samsung_sgh-i747m_galaxy_s_iii_lte_16gb
You may need to search online or call the carrier to find out what they use. Wikipedia often has this information.

my phone supports GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA, HSPA+ but problem is somewhere in software told by zong network help line
Those are the network technolgies supported. What matters in this case is what frequencies are used by these technologies.
GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS850 (B5), UMTS1900 (B2), UMTS2100 (B1), LTE1700/2100 (B4)
Those are the bands your device operates on. For example, if that carrier uses the 1700 band for 3G, you probably wont be able to use it. So if you can determine what they use, you can compare it to what the device is compatible with.
Support can be useful for certain things, but unless your problem is covered by what is on their computer screen, they often wont have a clue and will be quick to blame whatever comes to mind first. This happens often enough with just about every company that i simply dont trust what they say most of the time.
If nothing else, checking if they use the frequencies your device supports is much easier than trying to hunt down a very uncommon hardware or software problem. At least you could eliminate it as a possible cause. And if my suspicion is correct, you will save a lot of time you would otherwise spend diagnosing a problem that does not exist.

oh yes I got the solution finally and I want share here may It help others too, using this command *#0808# I change to this option RNDIS + DM + MODEM. then I download QPST install it, configure it and then go to client and then in download mode there I create I back up of NV file which is very very very important if you want to play with NV file, after creating my phone original NV back,i start playing with NV and write NV of i747 model to my i747m model and restart my mobile and I am very very happy to see a working H+ sign on the top of my screen I am very very happy I invest a lot of time so I am here to help anyone who want to ask me any question...
Unfortunately, its against forum rules to post this information....
Also, I'm not sure exactly what you did, but in general it is not a good idea to apply the NV Data of one device to another. (Not asking you to explain, more of a caution to others who might consider trying that. Like I said, we aren't allowed to share that information. )

problem solved but I am facing another which is that my imie number is changed. I want to change my imei to its original and also I want to keep current nv data of my mobile except imie
That's one big reason to never use another devices NV Data. If the device it came from is still being used, that imei may become blacklisted very soon.
PM me and I will try to help you change back to the correct one. We cannot discuss this here, so PM is the only way I can try to help.
Hello!
I am currently with Telus and have just unlocked my S3 after purchasing the unlock code. If the phone is on the stock Samsung ROM, I can insert a Wind or Rogers SIM and it works fine. However, on the CM-12.1-20150519-NIGHTLY-d2att ROM, it will _not_ connect to any other network. I tried manually searching for network but it fails with a message like Unable to search networks.
I'm not sure why this is happening or how to troubleshoot this. I would prefer to stick with a Lollipop ROM for now.
The CM d2att wikki page does say that since CM11, we should be using the d2lte version for this phone. So should I be installing the d2lte ROM instead?
Thank you

I installed cm-11-20141112-SNAPSHOT-M12-d2lte and unfortunately you were right. I still can't connect to WIND.
I have another fully stock S3 and I ran the Samsung Phone Info app on both to compare. Under the Firmware tab, the PDA version and CSC version is empty on the phone running CM11. Please see screenshots attached which shows this.
Also, I ran the SIM Toolkit app, tapped Manager Services and it gave me a ME returned a temporary error.
Any help would be greatly appreciated to troubleshoot this. To me it does not make any sense that on a unlocked phone, with stock or custom ROM, Telus (this phone was locked to Telus originally) connects just fine. With stock ROM, I can connect to WIND and Rogers but cannot connect to either when running a custom ROM
aaaaaahhhh !!!! @audit13 , hhhhheeeellllpppp !! (please) :what:
"all i can really do , is stay out of my own way and let the will of heaven be done"
The case is missing because there is no carrier customization on a custom rom.
It was my understanding that wind uses aws which the s3 does not natively support although there are hacks to enable these frequencies.
I am not sure how it could connect to wind on a stock rom.

Hello Mr audit13! It's not just that I can't connect to WIND when runnning CM11, I also can't connect to Rogers. Does that still mean there is a frequency issue?
Edit: Looking at WINDs website: (http://www.windmobile.ca/my-wind/faq/devices)
"The WIND Mobile network uses a frequency called AWS, with bands 1700/2100 MHz.(Phones compatible with the U.S. T-Mobile network often work with WIND)"
When you load cm11 or cm12, does your phone show the correct imei?
Which stock rom will connect to wind and Rogers?
Which baseband are you using with cm11 and cm12?
Crazy autocorrect on my iPad changed csc to case
autocorrect OFF. lol. ty for coming to help.
"all i can really do , is stay out of my own way and let the will of heaven be done"
I just did a sanity check. Installed stock ROM and put the WIND SIM in it. It wouldn't connect automatically so I searched for network and it does not show WIND in that list. It only shows WIND Away which is Rogers or Telus I think.
@audit13, you were correct. This phone will not connect to WIND.
I guess I'll just buy a new phone. Nexus 6, here I come!
Anyone in the market for 2 S3's? One is unlocked.
The i747m can connect to wind with a software hack; however, the hack must be applied every time you reboot the phone.
How much for the s3? It's still a great phone.

I see a couple of S3 on sale on Kijiji for 180. Both phones are in pretty good condition. So I am hoping 180 for the unlocked and 160 for the locked one.
Just wanted to let you know that I bought a refurb s3 from koodo for 90 and a refurb note 2 for 180 from koodo. Both come with a 1 year Samsung warranty. They both looked new. You can't find the phones on their website, you need to call the store and ask for stock. I got these phones with no contract, unlocked them via code, and are being used on Rogers and bell.
Oh, hmm. Well, I guess I will try my luck on Kjiji.
Thanks for all your help.
I've checked out kijiji and craigslist and the prices are similar to your asking price. Many people don't know that Koodo sells refurb phones and it was just a matter if luck for me when I got the phones. They weren't even for me! I've been using an old HTC One X from Rogers for the past 8 months
After reading news that Factory Reset leaves most of the data on the phone (research done at Cambridge University), I am very very hesitant to sell my phones now.

That only applies to the ROMs up to 4.3. Why not just flash 4.4.2 a few times, encrypt, decrypt, re-flash? I'm not positive these steps will make it better but it's the only thing I know of.
Hi, this a weird problem for my new e980, i flashed properly the e980 at&t rom, and now i dont have signal, i tried flashing modem.img from here and nothing, still no signal, also tried to flash the telcel kdz and nothing, my IMEI is ok, but i dont have signal, is like is trying to finding signal, sim card is ok, working in other phone, please, somebody can help me please?

Have you tried going back to stock jb?
Start from jb. It's the most stable version we have.
Then you can root and install twrp from flashify. It's the most up to date recovery we have. Forget about the others because they can be buggy.
After that you can choose whichever room suits you. But I'd recommend SlimLP...

You'll probably have to flash Telcel firmware first (E980H variant I think, not sure if Telcel or something else), then AT&T firmware to get your network back. Also, you must do a full (CSE, if I'm not wrong, haven't started LGFlashTool in a while ) flash, with complete internal wipe - "update" flash just changes system, boot and recovery, not modem/firmware images which are ones you need... Also, you MAY try flashing madmack's modem (it's ripped from AT&T E980 firmware) before flashing OEM images...
I really don't understand why are you people messing with modem images and other stuff like that at all... especially without backups. Last year I had to mess with nearly 10 phones from my friends/associates, because they got their modem/efs images broken/corrupted trying to flash something which isn't made for their device...
Actually did it, not working with AT&T rom, Tried with telcel then I flashed AT&T rom and nothing, nothing is working for me, tried the madmack modem file and nothing works. still no signal
Have you done a FULL flash? Are you sure you have E980 variant (difference between E98x variants is literally in modem firmwares)? This more looks like you have flashed wrong stock firmware.

Shady, I really apreciate your help, thanks for answer, my friend sell me that phone, he said is a E980, but after see the imei is a E981h version for argentina where I live, before flash the korean lollipop, my 4G works perfect, now I dont have signal, I tried the E980 and well, not signal, I tried E981h too because is a variant from south america too and maybe can work and actually is the real stock firmware for my phone, no signal, nothing.. I tested the phone with 2 firmwares from E989 (1 from Brazil the other one is from CHILE) and is working but only WCDMA 3G and sometimes the signal drops and I only have 16gbs for storage.
More clear, this is my summary.
1) E980 Firmware from AT&T, Telcel and Panama = No signal
2) E981h Firmware for my E981h, Stock Retail and Movistar Telefonica KitKat and JellyBean = NO SIGNAL
3) E989 Firmware from Brazil Retail and Chile Claro = Just WCDMA and signal drops.
4) Custom ROMs? Just tried the CloudyGX 1.0 with E980 patch and E988 just for test = NO SIGNAL
I can't find the problem, also my phone was in the service before this and was totally useless for them, but I think these guys wasn't too profesional for be honest, i'm pretty sure.

Custom ROMs won't do a thing because they are using firmware images on your modem partition.
IMEI says it's E981H Argentina, but it doesn't work with that firmware? What the hell... What's written on your phone's case? There is a model mark on the housing, after you remove back panel. I have E988 (Open TW variant), markings say E988/E989. In the end, ask your friend where he/she got it, that may help identifying it...

Yes, works but only GSM, no WCDMA and 4g, but I flashed the argentinian modem and i get a low WCDMA, is like the signal is very low in that rom, but not 4G or GSM.
Yes, I checked the preferred network in #*#*4636#*#*# and only works with WCDMA also tried the change the band in that menu but was useless, signal drops and 3G isn't working. Also tried in the options of the phone and the same result.
Tried the 3845#*988#* for configurate baseband and no luck. :l this is real a good problem, but I can confirm, the E988 at least works the argentinian modem with WCDMA but signal drops fast.

Have you tried to download your firmware from lg website?
Try to Google it. There might be tutorials telling you how to do this using your imei number. Then, you'll find the correct firmware.
Remember, you should use an LG website link to be secure in the use of your imei.
Edit: try that link
http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=<MYIMEI>
Note that you have to substitute MYIMEI for your imei. I'm not sure if you have to keep the brackets. So try both possibilities and see which works.
Edit 2: now I remembered all the steps.
Once you insert the imei without brackets you will have info on your firmware. Notice that in the central area of the page you have a link that ends in .kdz
Copy that link and insert it in your browser's address bar. That will prompt you to download your correct firmware.
That firmware will most likely be E98120X... Or the KK version...
After downloading it, change the 20 in the link for a 10...
Doing this you should be able to download the JB version. This is the most stable version for our devices (the KK version has a bug on the modem that keeps the device awake when it shouldn't).
If you succeed, flash the JB version, the one with the number 10 using the CSE option in the flash tool.
After that, you should be up and running and able to flash any custom rom without the risk of signal drops.
Oh, have in mind that if you want to use 4g you will have signal drops. This is also a bug of our devices. It works best in 3g. Every time you have to reboot, change from 4g to 3g, when signal is back on change again to 4g and you'll have it working with few hiccups...
Don't forget to keep backups of your firmware and report if you succeed.

Good. Now that you know the exact "name" of your rom you can Google the JB version (the one with number 10).
