[Q] How to mount WD Elements? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hi,
I have StickMount app to mount USB drives to my flo.
But I have WD Elements 2,5" 1TB USB 3 NTFS disk. When I connect it, it just flashes but is not mounted.
Can someone tell me how can I mount it?
If I need to use other kernel, then please point me to some good
But I need kernel with kexec-hardboot patch for MultiRom.
Thank you.

Are you using a powered USB hub? The Nexus probably doesn't put out enough juice to power a hard drive.

It is possible...
I use only ordinary OTG cable...
So I will try to search some powered OTG cable...

Thank you again @meekrawb
I bought this:

And now is working, but it would be better if it will work without power.

poor nexus 7 cannot provide that amount of juice for ext HDs

I have the same HDD and it works fine. I installed the ElementalX kernel, which provides NTFS support, and used Paragon NTFS to mount the HDD (available on the play store). I have a different problem myself: As soon as the device is locked, whatever is being streamed/accessed from the HDD is no longer accessible and the HDD has to be disconnected, reconnected and remounted.

[Q] USB flashdrive suport?screenshot btncombi working?

oke a couple of questions,sins im getting the GN this Saturday.
i know that USB OTG is disabled by default unless you get a kernel that turns on the option.
but is the USB OTG also working with USB flash drives and external HHD's(when unlocked/turned on) if so, whats the best kernel/mod i should use. and i dont care if i need to command mount it in the terminal app.
second question,
there was a report on ICS that ICS will have build in screenshot buton combo or some sort.
is it really there? does it work by default,or is it yet another kenrel option?
and does any one have an example screenshot?
nobody?isnt there anyone that can answer it

USB OTG will be enabled with an update, this has been confirmed on g+ by a googler. In the meantime I use the latest MCR rom from modaco.com and USB OTG works fine

This is probably less about USB OTG host mode as a feature and more about how ICS handles auto-mounting storage attached to it hence the "host mode experience" isn't 100% yet, even though host mode and HID work fine with the right kernel.

Sensation XL < SGN

Afternoon all
I've bit the buillet and finally picked up a SGN and I must admit im blown away
I do have 1 niggly little issue though, I cant seem to get the damn MTP to work on my Office PC (XP 32bit waaaay underpowered) and all for the sake of getting a ROM on there
Managed to use the Gnex tools to Unlock the BL, root and Flash CWM but I cant seem to copy any files over to the "SD Card" keeps bringing up and error saying;
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
when it tries to install the MTP drivers, regardless of USB Debugging being enabled or disabled
and I cant mount the USB in CWM either, brings up an error like 'e:Unable to opem UMS lunfile (No such file or directory)'
Having had a poke around I cant seem to find a solid 'yes do this' or 'No your boned'
any help is muchos appreciato!
This is because the Galaxy Nexus doesn't support UMS mode anymore, since it no longer has a partition exclusively for media, so it can't mount it. MTP or PTP is what is used to transfer files via usb now.
Try see if there's any 3rd party programs that let you use MTP, Google provided one for download for linux and mac iirc.
If your PC doesn't support MTP try Airdroid from the market. It gives you access to your phone over a wifi connection using your browser.
Dang! Looks like (since this PC is naff) Ill be transfering the .zips to my SGN tonight on my Mac, ah well it be rite lol
Thank You!
I was able to plug and play on my XP machine.
Also, cwr doesn't support mounting yet on the gnexus.

Wifi Explorer is nice too. That's what I use to transfer between devices.

OTG Cable with NTFS drive

I managed to get OTG cable with NTFS drive working with Galaxy Nexus. Since I saw some people asking for it with no definite answer, I want to write a sort guide describing how I did it.
This is no way a definite catch-all guide, just from my experience.
[What do you need]
USB OTG Cable
USB Mass Storage Watcher OTG: Market
Faux123's kernel v11_r3: XDA
Rooted Galaxy Nexus (ofc)
A NTFS USB drive
[How to do it]
That's about it. Once you get all of them in your phone, it's only the matter of plug your NTFS USB drive in, start UMB MSW OTG, you should see your hard drive with a Mount button. Tap on Mount then specify a folder for it to mount to (I create an usb folder in /sdcard/) then you're gtg.
Have fun

Any thoughts about USB Mass Storage Watcher OTG vs StickMount (https://market.android.com/details?id=eu.chainfire.stickmount)?
I don't use NTFS for anything, but vfat (FAT32) seems to work great with just root (stock kernel)
USB Mass Storage Watcher seems a little buggy on the Nexus. Things like this:
http://i.imgur.com/uXzdw.png
(Not only is the screen layout all messed up, it's actually not connected to anything!)
Yes the USB Mass Storage Watcher is very buggy, but it's the only application (so far) can mount NTFS without resorting to shell script. Personally I use USB MSW OTG for NTFS drive, and Stickmount for Fat32 thumbstick.
btw the USB Mass Storage Watcher was design for tablet layout lol
Yeah I got it to mount but it didn't seem to work. My NTFS drive (windows 7 installation files) showed up blank in AndroZIP.
Managed to plug in 4 means of memory using this
500GB external
32GB x2
4GB flash drive

How can I port this driver to my Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro equipped with Android 2.3 ?
Or where can I download such a driver?
My smartphone has USB OTG support, but currently I'm only able to connect mouses and keyboards.
My 1tb western digital USB hard drive works without a hitch using a 50cent otg cable from ebay. No apps needed. It just mount automatically and works flawlessly

[Q] OTG not working - Cable or Software Issue??

I'm very new to all of this and am not sure what I am doing wrong. I can't get my USB hosting to work. I have run USB Hosting Diagnostics and have included screen shots of what it says. If I'm reading it right, it is supported, but the Android API (Cyanogenmod 10.0?) isn't recognizing it. How do I fix this, is it a faulty cable or a software issue?

as you are using cyanogen mod, it does not include any app to automatically mount the usb otg device. So the best way to overcome this is to install an app like stick mount from the play store, which can automatically mount your usb device,. Also note that NTFS file system is not fully supported, so make sure that the device you are trying to connect has a fat32 file system...

I tried stick mount and it also didn't work. I would like to be able to use a thumb drive, but the main purpose is to connect my OBD 2 USB to the Torque Pro app. I've tried to connect a mouse, a thumb drive, and the OBD 2 adapter. I've tried using StickMount and USB OTG Helper. Nothing has worked. Any thoughts?

Hey there, sorry for the late reply,, I have installed AOKP JB MR3 on my device and all works well. I tried using mouse and a USB stick today, and it works well.
So first make sure that the OTG adapter is not faulty (try using it on some other device).
If the OTG adapter is okay, try changing your ROM. Some builds of CM ROM have bugs some time, especially if you are using a nightly release (Just backup everything and flash the latest official AOKP ROM. See if it works there).
Try changing the kernel if you are not in the mood (read feeling too lazy) to change ROMs. Your current kernel dev might not have implemented the USB Host module properly and this can also result in a non-functional OTG device.

[Q] Best approach with FireTV Stick 2 (Tank)

Hello.
I've never been up to date with modifications of all the FireTV Sticks, but recently found here some threads and bad things that OS updates bring/block and I'd like to ask for advice.
My device is as on the screenshot, OS version 5.2.8.4 and with an information in settings, that the update has been downloaded and to be installed when device idle. I disconnected it from power source and seek what are my options and what You'd do to make the best out of this Stick.

This is awesome, but is there anything for FireTV Stick II ?
https://www.reddit.com/r/fireTV/comments/kl1y7z
Would this LeanBack and TVLaunchX work or should I go for WolfLanucher/LauncherManager?
1. I'd like to install a launcher (Wolf?) to speed things up. Is this possible with this OS or should I downgrade?
2. can I still disable OTA updates and stay on this OS version, or should I downgrade?
3. I dont use voice input, don't mind rooting
4. I mainly use the Stick with Kodi
5. I bought a OTG 3xUSB cable and it would be awesome if I could connect a 200GB HDD 2,5" but it doesnt work both because insufficient power supply (doesnt boot when connected) and I read that it needs to be FAT32 formatted. Can I somehow bypass that FAT32?
6. doesn't matter if FAT32 or NTFS, can I somehow share this HDD connected to FireTV via my Wi-Fi, to upload media from my PC to that hard disk?
If you have knowledge about any single thing above, pls share your thoughts or links. Thanks!
2. Exact moment with solution plus website. Also a solution, if the update has been downloaded and awaits install
https://www.techdoctoruk.com/block-updates-on-amazon-devices-new-method/
5. This gut explains it. At least 2A power supply and FAT32 is a must
https://www.reddit.com/r/firetvstick/comments/bimiwc/_/enbxqgu
6. Usefull info here. Running samba share only on rooted ROM as it requieres blocked ports. Migrating files should be easy with a FTP server that can be easly started with EsFileExplorer
https://www.reddit.com/r/fireTV/comments/4jjyi4
The file size limit of 4GB really bothers me with FAT32. I'll look for other solution but I'm against running my PC as a server. Will look if my router can handle file sharing
