When I have an unread SMS message on my G3, the notification LED does not come on. I have to turn on the screen to see if there is an incoming SMS I need to read.
Can anyone tell me how do I set the LED to come on when I have a waiting SMS message?
Under Settings > Display, I have Notification LED turned on and the check box for Missed Calls and Messages is checked.
Thanks!
That what I have and it works

Go into it and uncheck it then recheck. When you do it should flash green like 3 times. If it does not then may I dare ask what xposed mods you running.

I unchecked it, then checked it. The LED flashed green twice. Tested it and the LED still does not come on when I have a text waiting. I am running no xposed mods.
What is interesting is that if a message is waiting and I turn off the screen, the LED flashes green twice before the screen goes black.

Well the led will only flash if screen is off and then I think it is very spread out when it does. Testing now

OK so with screen on no led. With it off green blink 2 times every 10 seconds
Sorry, let me explain - If an SMS needs to be read:
- With the screen on, no LED. with the screen off, no LED.
- If the screen is On and I press the power button briefly to turn the screen off, the LED will flash green twice, then both the screen and the LED go off.
If no SMS needs to be read, when I press the power button to turn the screen off, the LED stays off and does nothing.
from browsing around the web this seems to be a problem with some KitKat devices.
Correct. I would try to reflash and see if something got stuck
Nothing to reflash, my ROM is stock.

Thanks, but I'll save that as an absolute last resort, because from what I've read that doesn't always fix the problem in KitKat, especially if the message LED didn't even work out of the box.

ok no problem. i was just saying that before your 14 days are up and then if they does have issue you will get a refurbished one instead of a brand new one.
Well this is interesting... I noticed that the Android System had used 120MB of data during my last billing period. So using the app Android Firewall I blocked Task ID 1000 which includes Android System, font server, smart screen, home selector, LG System Server, QuickMemo+, and about a dozen other applications.
My G3 is noticeably faster, lag is reduced, and hey - the LED notification now works for SMS/MMS messages!

Yes i used the universal cab found everywhere for this that is suppose to give u options in sounds and notifications. I installed, soft reset, went to sounds and notifications, drop down menu, nothing for this flashing green light. Yes under new text message and stuff like that theres a box u can check to flash the light and how often but that does nothing! I have all the boxes unchecked, i get a new sms, and still the green light blinks until i read the sms, wtf? Anyway to get rid of this light completely?
I heard that once you change the registry for it to blink...it will blink regardless if you have it checked or not.

So where is the registry edit to turn it off?
I have a problem similar. I dont want to get the blinking light on new email but cant seem to get rid of it. I did find a post where it told the registry edit to turn it off and it only worked for the first send/rec then after that the blinking light came back
Just my theory as I have been looking for this for months is that we are missing an alert setting. WE are missing the "unread message alert" that has been missing for a while. It is not that it doesnt shut off, it is the unread message overrides it and keeps it blinking. Have yet to find a fix for it
I've read some people saying they have had really bad problems with Lightflow that affect things like booting their device while others have said they have had no problems at all with it. What is your experience with it?
The options for LED control sound awesome, but I'd prefer not to screw up my week-old GN if I can help it.
In my experience, it works flawlessly
I've never had any problems. I definitely suggest giving it a try. I'm sure you'll love it.
The only problem that I have is when I dismiss an notification, the light doesn't go off. It keeps blinking.
Eg. Facebook notifications. I swipe them in my status bar to remove them, but as soon as I lock my screen, the notification LED glows blue. It happens sometimes even if I read the message or notification in the app.

Now that you mention it, when I received an email through the Hotmail application the light would not go away unless I opened the app. That's the only flaw I've found.
The only issue I have is that you have to open the app for the notification to get rid of the blinking light. Everything else works fine for me.

Iirc, it happens that way because lightflow monitors the apps, not the system notification. Like the description says, if the app isnt in the lightflow monitoring list, you wont get an led light for it.

There's a couple o' spots in settings, one in general, and one for the specific app notification that should look after that.
i. e. Clear the light after opening status/notification bar.
@1LifeInAnalog on Twitter
I used to have it and had no problems at all. Worst case you can always just delete the app.
I rooted my phone and downloaded a custom rom and now don't need light flow anymore since the rom has custom notif. light set up.
Never had problems, I set it to dismiss notification with screen on so I don't have to open that certain app
I've had extreme display glitches. Upon boot my screen would flash a green/pink burst of static, and post light flow I haven't a single issue.
Try Liquidsmooth, the integrated led has all of the same features.

I meant when it's in vibrate mode. My Gmail will vibrate even if I tell it not to in the settings. In fact, every notification vibrates when on vibrate mode. This was not the case with my galaxy s2. I hear this is a jb thing.

Seriously not trying to be a **** here.. but.. "Vibrate mode" .... umm... its supposed to vibrate when android gets a notification UNLESS the vibrate flag is not assigned to the notification via the app.. (usually an option per app)
Now you are saying, in vibrate mode, it still vibrates even though you have the vibrate option turned off in the Gmail app?

Dude, all I am saying is that before on the galaxy s2 only apps that were told to vibrate would vibrate EVER. Didn't matter if it was silent, vibrate or sound mode. This has changed in the new version of Android and it is plain annoying to me since I told the app not to vibrate so I would like for it to not vibrate. The apps that I told to vibrate I would like to vibrate-- nothing else.

Thats what i was saying in my second part of the post, if you have the Gmail settings open, and under "notifications" you UNCHECK "vibrate" it is still vibrating? Cause it shouldn't. That setting is global for all sound modes.

Yea I unchecked it. It happened on my stock ROM as well as Wicked and DeathStalker. This is the bit of research I did a while ago. I'll have to hunt through that thread to see if it was fixed somewhere.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1785800
The only reason I care about this is because I only care about texts or phone calls at work. Emails and FB or whatever are irrelevant to me and thus I don't want to vibrate on my desk or pocket...Just a personal choice, I guess.

yeah i understand exactly where you are coming from. I have a question, when you adjust the volume using the volume rocker buttons, does your notification volume change too?

I just odin'd back to stock wiped my data and can confirm that there is NO vibration when receiving any notification that has the "vibrate" option unchecked.. Don't know what your issue is. Gotta be a conflicting app. Do you use light flow at all?

Interesting. I had stock and I was sure Gmail was still vibrating when vibration was turned off. Were you in vibration or silent mode? I do not use lightflow, though I was thinking of getting it since this phone seems to have RGB LEDs.

I'm not sure what to tell you guys. I flashed stock and tested this and it does not vibrate.. so it's gotta be your ROM or something you guys added or changed.

It's the only way to get it to work. I had many emails with the dev in the last 24hours and you need to uncheck all options BUT "downloaded apps" in the stock notifications setting and it will work.
The other issue is that you might not be able to select "always on" as an option for the LED flash rate and actually have it stay on. So, instead, you have to set a custom time with say something like 50000,10 and then the LED will stop blinking. I have 2 notifications - charging and charged - when plugged in the LED would blink rapidly the colors I set no matter what I selected for LED flash rate time. Setting the custom length resolved that.

Excellent, I'm glad it did.
I have it working very well now after toying with a lot of settings and doing a lot testing & debugging/logging with the dev.
What we did find out through the tests is that - at least on the USA version with Verizon - it will not notify you if you have a Voice Mail or Visual Voice Mail (I use) and that it turns out, LG made it's own "voice mail" app - whereas in the past Verizon had their own voice mail or visual voice mail app. So, his next release addresses this new LG Voice Mail specific app because the 2 we have on the Verizon phone ( "Voice Mail" and "Voicemail Notification Monitoring") will not trigger a Lightflow notification as they are new LG specific app.

No. We did not try to address that further given the custom number value solves that - which is why that function even exists. So, I - and I am sure he - looks at that as a low priority issue as that method works. However, once the VM/VVM issue gets resolved, I will ask him if there is a way to see how to get that working so no custom value is needed and so "always on" does it's job of being "always on".

This is my only issue with this great phone. I thought it was a fault at first. I get one animation then the 10 sec AOD or I have to keep the AOD on all the time.
I have no idea why there is no option to keep the AOD going until you acknowledge/read the notification. I really hope it’s an oversight that will be fixed with an update.
Same here, got the 10s AOD and I was hoping I would get the pulse animation after a missed call... but nope. :/

It’s working for me. I enabled Autostart, Overlay permission and set no restrictions in battery saver and it worked for Outlook, WhatsApp and calls (not tested text messages). I bought the full version after the initial test and use the app icons option without any problems too.

I should have also said you need to select the apps you want a notification from and separately enable missed call notification in settings.

Always on all the time U'll see the icon of the app that got a notification lol
I enabled the constant AOD a few days ago and I think there must have been something else going on during my initial testing because the battery only drops 2% per hour now. I’m using the first simple clock option (red) and thankfully it moves position after a few min. An LED would have been nice, but totally happy with the AOD now.
NotifyBuddy was using the same battery as full on gaming for some reason :/
