[Q] Camera woes - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm brand new to the G3 with very little Android experience. Briefly had a Nexus 5.
I'm having an issue where all the pictures I take and send via Hangouts end up rotated. Portrait pictures rotate to landscape. How can i fix this? Does the stock LG camera not support portrait photos? I'm already catching enough flack from a friend for switching to Android. Sending pics that aren't in the right rotation isn't helping matters. Thanks for all the guidance!

I noticed they are rotated when I put them on the computer. Just the thumbnails are tho.

Nexus pictures look good in camera app, but bad in gallery

Greetings everyone! I have to say I'm really loving this phone so far! But has anyone noticed that right after you take a picture it looks great while still in the camera app, but when you click on it and it opens in the gallery it looks really grainy/darker etc. Wonder why this is?

When the camera app is on the screen is at full brightness by when you switch to the gallery the screen dims back down hence the pictures looking darker

Also when you view it gallery you might need to give it a little longer to load. I've noticed that the pics look a little blurry/grainy when I first open the pic, but if I wait a few seconds it sharpens and looks good. The brightness can also play a big role.

or if you have Chainfire 3D installed it may change the textures

Why won't pictures send as MMS with correct orientation? (Any ROM)

I've always had this issue and just never asked till now. It's not related to cm9 or any ROM as it's always happened. Pics will show the correct orientation in gallery/camera but as soon as I attach to send in an MMS message the picture displays sideways. Anyone know why, or how to fix this? It's annoying when I send a pic to my gf cause she can only look at it sideways, and her screen is much smaller than our Epic's so it's hard to see.

Additional info. Apparently according to her saving the pic gets it to display the proper orientation. However when sent it's still sideways. This does "not" happen when she sends me a pic though. They are received from anyone else in the correct orientation, it's only when sending.

The orientation is correct when I choose the photo. It "attaches" sideways and sends as such.

That's why I said rotate in gallery so when it attaches its correct

I shouldn't have to. Then I would have to go in and correct my pictures in gallery every time I send one. I should add this is only for "camera" pics. Downloaded pics send with correct orientation. I'm trying to get to the root of the issue so I no longer have it.

lost, thats not always true. it depends what type of "os" the recievers phone has. non-android and non-iphones don't correct the orientation.

zei, check on her prevail in the menu - settings - display, and make sure "auto-rotate" is checked marked.
Are you using the FFC or rear facing camera? And if using the rear facing camera, are you holding the phone where the camera button is on top or on the side (vertical)? I believe Samsung designed it this way. It assumes if you're using the back camera, it's to be taken in landscape mode, and it displays each picture as such.
I remember reading about this, or something very similar, a short time after I got my Epic and it was a known problem.
The opposite I believe is also true. If using the FFC, it assumes you're taking the picture in portrait mode (vertical) and will display the picture accordingly.

What messaging app are you using? Might be a setting in your/her app.
Stock messaging app. It's not her phone, it shows incorrect orientation in the messaging app "before" sending, shows that way on the other end, then corrects after she saves the attach and views it through gallery. And yes, it's only portrait photos that do this, landscape shows properly. Not sure the reason for the camera saving the picture in the proper orientation in the gallery but it displaying differently when attached to send as MMS. Why would that happen if the orientation is already correct before attaching it?

I'm experiencing same problem...on cm9
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
There's adobe photoshop express, a free photo editor fr the market that can be helpful w/ the orientation........however, this does not fix the actual problem..........get the mismatched setting less often, but am never sure when it'll reappear............so for those 'flipped' images PS Express is my personal quick fix!
..........sent from today's android = 4.0.3!
Problem only exists when picture is taken with phone in regular position...when using sideways like the camera app opens in problem is gone.so looks like that's our fix.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
That's not a real fix. The problem isn't in the camera. The camera takes the pic in the proper orientation, and it displays correctly in the gallery. It's in attaching it to MMS.

Its some issue in android iirc, its done that as long as I can remember. If you take a picture in portrait, it'll send it in portrait, but landscape pics get rotated(or is it reverse? I'm sleepy atm).
My "solution" is to "crop" the picture, but select the whole picture, it essentially copies it, and sends correctly if you attach the "cropped" picture. I know its an extra step, but it takes about 30 seconds so it's easy to get used to

Green Camera and Pictures

Hey guys,
I bought a galaxy nexus with jellybean 4.1.1 but I have problems with the camera. It takes pictures with an obvious green tint. When I play around the settings it makes it either worse or not but still has a green tint. Also I cant even record videos because everytime I want to start the camcorder application it crashes. I upload a video to show you guys my problem. I really hope its not a hardware based error.

am i really the only one with this problem?

[Q]Gallery.apk controls MMS orientation, can sideways mms be fixed? [Q]

I'm running PA 2.54. I don't send pictures too often, but I just had a minor issue with sending MMS pictures taken in portrait. They show up in landscape mode on the stock Messaging app.
Go SMS will allow me to rotate it correctly, but I'm trying to get down to the bottom of this.
I'm going to flash TW Messaging app on PA. I'll update when I try it.
UPDATE!: TW mms didn't install, even after I unistalled stock mms.
UPDATE2: Found out that it's nothing with messaging app. It has to do with the gallery app. Depending on what the settings are even in portrait the details are reading 270 rotation when it should be 90.
UPDATE3: I'm posting a picture with what I'm experiencing, but I have posted below another picture with what I want. (picture below)
UPDATE4: TEMP fix for now would have to still be GO SMS PRO

They just show up that way on your device. I'm running the same ROM. Once you send them the other person will get them the right way and if you click on the photo after its sent it will correct its self.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I sent message to myself will try someone else, but I received the portrait picture in landscape.
UPDATE: Just tried someone else's phone and they received the portrait picture sideways, also I sent a picture to me from their phone, they showed up as sideways and that's how I received it.

Also, check this out. This image was taken on a different ROM, I don't remember which one, but I'm almost sure it was Re-Calk ICS.
The image has a different filename.
That picture is only #######.jpg
The pictures I take with PA is IMG_########.jpg
The picture that is on the mms was taken on a different ROM. And it seems to be ready to send correctly.
This is what I'm experiencing.

This has been a problem for quite a while on some of the custom roms.... No solution has been determined.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
It has everything to do with the gallery app. I was using root explorer and was on my pictures under:
/sdcard/DCIM/Camera
I noticed only a few pictures pictures were correctly oriented when taken in portrait.
I'll find out what ROM it was on.

[Q] No real hdr in CM10.1?

Hey guy's
I was wondering why the HDR fuction in CM10.1 is not working like in the stock camera app? Right now it only take 3 separate pictures instead on only one.
Will it be implemented in the future or is there any limitation?
They added it but it just doesn't work properly for now. They'll fix it soon I'm sure.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Yeah I really hope they get it fixed. Right now the function is pretty much useless as your picture end up being blurry...
