[Q] Install Recovery & Root without computer 4.1.2 - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title says. Is there anyway to install custom recovery and root workout using a PC ? My usb port seems broken (just received the phone), I can charge but the phone is not detected. The cable is okay as works with another note2, which is picked up ok by my laptop. I guess if I can get root, then mobile odin is an option. Oh. International 7105 model. Many thanks in advance.

Towel root- for rooting (Just google it)
Mobile Odin to install recovery good:install from Play store)

I used Framaroot to root then Mobile Odin to flash CWM recovery.
Thanks.
P.S. When using Framaroot, select "Aragon" exploit.

Flashing Recovery Problem!

RESOLVED SEE POST #6
Hey guys,
I am having trouble flashing a custom recovery (TWRP) to be specific on my brothers Note 2. I was able to easily do it with my phone but I didnt update OTA to the latest ATT software.
I have the latest samsung drivers installed too.
So in general.
1. My brother updated OTA
2. I use odin to try to flash TWRP via PDA
3. It says success but when I reboot into recovery it goes into the stock android recovery instead of the custom one
4. ??? perplexed
is your [brothers] phone rooted? (you didn't mention that in the post). if it is, the easiest way to install TWRP is to download GooManager from the Play Store and, once installed, choose Menu->Install OpenRecoveryScript.

He is not rooted. He is stock from AT&T but he said he did an OTA update a week or two ago.
I actually tried the GooManager to install TWRP but it said it installed twrp but it goes into stock android recovery
I'm not sure if this helps or not but when I load into stock android recovery it keeps "manually loading CSC"

so i take it [your] phone is rooted, because you have a custom recovery installed. my understanding is that the device must be rooted before you can install a custom recovery. that's why installing TWRP via GooManager didn't work.

what about ODIN doesn't it root the phone when you flash a custom recovery?
on my phone all I had to do was flash via twrp via odin and it did everything for me...
this isn't the case for my brother's phone so im a little confused

ODIN doesn't root your phone. it's the package/file that you flash with ODIN that roots your device. you didn't mention the method you used to root your phone.

flash what via TWRP? you need to reference the methods you used to flash your device, e.g., link to post. it's difficult to help without having more info. in my case i used the CF Root method which does root your phone by using ODIN to flash a package that installs SuperSU binary and APK (app that provides root) and a Stock recovery. This took less than 30 seconds. afterwards, i added my GMail account to my device, installed GooManager from the PlayStore and then used GooManager to install TWRP. hope this is helpful.

I see. Sorry for not being specific
When I worked on my phone. I installed the latest samsung drivers on the main website, used Odin 3.07, flashed TWRP 2.3 by PDA, and it was rooted and the custom recovery worked awesome (I did it similar to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFHZ535L7is)
However this process does not work with my brothers note 2. Which is why im confused.... I assuming TWRP auto rooted for my phone but it didn't for my brother's phone?
I will definitely give your method a try and post back. Thanks for putting up with a newbie like me!

no worries... i'd hate to see you fubar your brothers phone, lol. anyway, the method used in that video appears to be created by ChainFire for the N7100, which is the international version of the Note 2. the method i referenced - also developed by ChainFire - is specific to the AT&T and Canadian versions of the Note 2. if there's one thing I've learned in my years on xda, it's to make sure that you play with stuff that's compatible with your device. several of today's devices go by the same consumer friendly name (e.g.,Galaxy S 3, Note 2) but have different internals (e.g., chips). if you flash an incompatible ROM, you could end up with a nice paperweight. hope you and your brother enjoy your phones.

I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S4 and I tried rooting it using the CF-Auto-Root, but when I open SuperSU, it says "there is SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it." I decided I want to root it all the way but I can't figure this out. How do I root this phone?? Do I have to use the CyanogenMod?? Please help!!

Ok, So my question would be did you use Odin to install CF-Auto-Root? Most I've seen use it and have no problem. Odin installs it then the phone reboots and that's when a special recovery is installed and then loaded and the root process is done. After that stock recovery is again installed. Not positive but I heard there may be other methods named similiar to this that will root phones that have 4.3 and lower.
Make sure you have the version mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2294005
Also. if you think for some reason that your phone maybe rooted but SuperSU isn't working right you could always go to the Play store and download Chainfire's SuperSU and then install it. If your phone was truly rooted this should fix SuperSU

[Q] Root Note 2 on 4.4.2 without using Odin

Hi! I just want to root my Note 2 without using Odin. I am having difficulties in connecting my phone to a USB connector, so I don't want to take any chances. All of the instructions in the Internet say that I need to use Odin to either flash CF- Auto Root or flash Philz Recovery first before I use the SuperSU zip file to flash it on my device. If I flash the SuperSU zip file without installing Philz recovery first, would it brick my device?
Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

You cannot flash any zip file via stock recovery, hence you need to flash custom recovery first to be able to flash SuperSU and to flash custom recovery you need to either flash it via odin or terminal emulator. In order to flash via terminal emulator you need to flash cf auto root via odin first. To sum it up you need Odin either ways to root your phone .
If you have correctly installed the Samsung drivers and tried different USB ports and using stock samsung cable Odin should recognize your phone.Uninstall the drivers and re install them from scratch.
Don't root without Odin. Or you will get into problem. Try another computer or another cable. My laptop does not recognise my note 2. I use my friend's. Njoy 4.4.2 till u find above solutions. I have successfully rooted 4.4.2 without any problem.

Hi...
I have GT-N7100 ( Samsung Galaxy Note 2 ) 4.4.2 KitKat ! I recently tried to root my device with Odin odin3 v1.85 ( cwm6-root-note2 ) and got the pass.
I am not able to use SU ( Which was already pre-installed by me before rooting from play store ) Also it give the message "There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it".
I cannot also go to CWM Recovery mode by Pressing Vol Up + Home Button + Power Button as screen go mad and switch it off, Then I need to start it again to use my phone normally.
I have also installed an app from Play Store named Root Checker which verify if phone is rooted or not and it say "Root Access is not properly configured or was not granted".
Thanks to god my phone is still working but I still wish to Root My phone again with correct process !
Q. Can I still Re-Root My phone ? If Yes, Then please guide me through latest correct process with files.
Q. I wish to root and install CWM Recovery again ( Which I tried before which has not properly configured )
Thanks

Hi Sir,
I would like to say THANKS A TON for your precious time and for your quick response to my query !
EVERYTHING WORKS !!! Finally my phone has got root access !:good:
Also a Big thanks to Mr. Smeet Somaiya for such a wonderfull and easy thread to follow to gain root access.
Its my first step towards getting into developing Android and I love it to the core to learn and explore more.
At last I wish to know if I am allowed to contact you in near future to seek help ?
God bless you....Have a nice week ahead !!
Cheers !!!!

Mobile Odin does half a job.

Can any developer explain why Mobile Odin fails in inserting SuperSu into KitKat? I think it said that u can flash d firmware and still have root access? (with everroot and Supersu inserted)

My experience of the last weeks is that only one root method works for NE1 + NE2 firmware:
Flash custom recovery (PC-Odin) and then flash SuperSu 2.01+ through this recovery.
Yes. Sir. I have already done that. The reason I use Mobile Odin is to do away with PC. But looks like we have no choice till chainfire figures out a way.
Thanks 4 reply. Much appreciated.

Towelroot was easiest but I don't believe it works work kitkat. So you'll have to use Odin and cfautoroot.
KNOX WILL TRIP THUS VOIDING WARRANTY
Towel root
https://towelroot.com
Chainfire Auto root(hlte-tmo) version
https://download.chainfire.eu/354/CF-Root
Use Odin to install cfautoroot, phone reboots , and su is now on phone.
Need help ask but simple as 3 steps once you grabbed files.
1: Open Odin with phone in download mode
2: open cfautoroot in Odin via button called pda or ap(depends on version)
3:hit start and wait for status bar to change to green and should say success.
Phones now rooted so go ahead and install twrp/philz/cwm recovery which ever u choose and do full nandroid backup for safe keeping.
All together maybe 5 mins.
After u update supersu binary run app called root checker from play store just to verify.
