Hi all.
I'm new to the Z1 compact forum, but I've been on here a while, got a Z and a Z1.
The compact is for the wife.
I had it today from Vodafone, showing 14.3.A.0.757 and EURO as software version.
Customisation is 1282-3533 R3C
I was expecting the update to show 14.4.A.0.108 but instead it's wanting to install 118.
I have read that someone thinks it's a Vodafone branded install, but I don't want any of their crap on it.
Does anyone have any info on this?
Cheers.
Ok, it does have 757 branded.
Vodafone APN already set, and can't change voicemail number.
That's a hell of a lot of 'branding' I must say.
Gonna run the 118 update for now, should be fine.
If it was mine, I would be flashing the generic ftf, but I don't think her indoors will know the difference lol
Updated the customisations thread also, as mine was different to the ones already posted.
.118?
Did you really mean .118 or did you mean 108?
He meant .118.
Yes definitely. 118
Sussed it now anyway, it is Vodafone branded, although not particularly evident.
Updated, and all good.
Thanks for the replies either way.

My Desire was bought from O2, so has it's firmware.
I'm moving abroad next month, will I still get an update to 2.2 ?
I won't be using O2.. will that stop me ?
Would I be better flashing it with a generic rom ?
Thanks

It's about choice...
Why you need flashing? if you Desire daily usage for Phone, SMS, Chat and Check Email and little bit Browse the net.. I think wait until official release for Desire much better than Rooted/Flashing your phone
Thanks for the reply.
I'd prefer not to flash or root it if I can help it.
The question really is will a UK O2 Desire automatically upgrade to 2.2 if used in New Zealand, with Vodafone ?
Thanks
Probably not. My understanding is that receiving updates is dependent on your current version. I'm on Meteor in Ireland, for example, but I won't receive any specific Meteor updates, because I have the generic HTC firmware.
So if you're on a kiwi network, with the O2 software, you'll get neither the HTC update nor any update your new network rolls out.
So either debrand now and get the HTC update whenever it's released, or wait until it comes out and flash the 2.2 rom directly.
One other thing you could do is take it to Vodafone in New Zealand and ask them to flash their own software on it. Since you're a new customer, they'll most likely oblige.
But that's if they even stock the Desire, btw. If they don't you'll have to do it yourself.
One thing to keep in mind re:carrier specific firmwares is that it may take an awfully long time for upgrades to trickle down. You could be looking at an additional month or more between HTC releasing it and your carrier releasing it.
And even when they do, they might disable certain features (wi-fi tethering, for example, isn't too popular with mobile operators)
Thanks
that is what I'd thought..
I suppose the only other thing would be if O2 released it for download, then I could manually install it !!
Are there still issues with wifi and the generic rom ?
Yeah, that's another way. Bookmark this link:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bravo/
The only issues were with people who people who debranded their phone and flashed to the generic rom. But for anybody else, there's no issues whatsoever.
Thanks
If I change the ROM is there any risk ? I'm not bothered about root, but would like to have the option of 2.2 when I'm not in the UK.
can you point me to a firmware flashing guide ?
Thanks again.
Well this is the latest (generic) rom update:

Very easy to install. Just download the .exe to your PC, and open it while your phone is plugged in. The installer will walk you through.
I don't know if it's that simple for branded phones though. You might have to debrand first... I honestly couldn't say. You might ask in that thread and list your FW number. Maybe somebody else will know.
You're sure it's a branded phone, yes? There's no .405 in the version number?
My firmware is : 1.20.207.3 CL171460 release-keys
I'll ask in the other forum.
Thanks
My XPS is 1257-6713. I assume this is the number that means no brand italian version of the XPS.
I was wondering, how to return to the stock firmware that has the same number as my device? Is there any easy way to do it?

I'm locked and I never unlocked. Anyway, I did that many times, if I have the generic world firmware on and then repair, I will get a repaired generic world firmware, I won't get the italian firmware.
Sorry, I confused SUS with SPCC. So if I repair with SUS I will get the original firmware? Will try tomorrow and report back.

It's probably not a big deal but I think there is a reason why they put those codes in there. Maybe there are small hardware differences between different SI numbers, I don't know. Maybe that's what's causing those weird bugs on JB for people who updated using flashtool? I remember hearing back when I had the Ray that this was the case, but maybe I heard wrong.
Anyway, the main reason why I wanted to be able to do this was because I'm considering selling the phone, and wanted to know how to return it to it's original stock firmware version.

I dont think it is related to the region
and seems Xperia S only have two version in hardware
The Japanese version known as Sony Ericson Xperia NX (which dont have NFC function) and the LT26i we are using
those jellybean bugs are universal too
actually, those people use flashtool are usually becoz the jellybean firmware are not yet released in their country so they can only be obtained with flashing the ftf file in flashtool

I used the flashtool as well as the official JB hasn't released here yet, apparently for Sony Italy doesn't exist, and if it does, it comes after freaking third world countries.
Anyway, what's the point of the SI number then, if all the XS phones are identical?

lol I know that feel bro, those update usually release first in America and Europe. Italy are not supposed to be the slowest one.
(Well, some says Hong Kong (where I'm from) is supposed to be one of the slowest, but seems not really true in major update.)
I think different SI number of a rom indicate which input languages it provide in the Xperia keyboard is the main thing.
For example, they dont think u need to type Chinese in Italy, so u may not find the Chinese keyboard in your rom.
And i just flash a .211 recently, which i dont know where region it is for. This rom is lack of the Chinese keyboard. I could only flash it myself with recovery.
Maybe not just language thing all the time, some more stock settings that may suit you a bit more.
BTW, not all XS are identical. When it just release in 2012, Xperia S is known to have the yellow screen problem. (When the device overheat, the screen will show yellow patches in some part. This is a minor hardware failure) But sony offer free repair for those devices then, which replace it with a better screen. We can assume that all repaired XS and newer XS are identical now.
Hi all,
I'm new here, I stumbled across your site when I was looking for some info on how to debrand my xperia z1 compact that's coming from o2 Ireland. I want to get rid of all the o2 branding and bloadware stuff on it and have it as a clean phone.
I saw the tutorial that has been posted up on xperiablog about unbranding an xperia Z using flashtool, seems straightforward enough.
But I don't know what the correct fw version I need to flash it with, and if it's even here to download?
Like I said, the phone is an o2 Ireland branded phone and locked to o2 Ireland too.
Can anyone help me, point me in the right direction? I'm totally new to this and don't want to mess up my phone!
Thanks
Any in the resource thread.

Can you point me in the right direction to the one I need? There's lots of different versions and I'm not sure what is the latest one and what one I need for my country? Like I said the phone is an o2 Ireland branded phone, so what version firmware I need, that's what I'm not sure about.
Is there a main European version firmware? or do I use the UK one? I'm just looking for the OFFICIAL stock firmware that hasn't been altered in any way.

Great, thanks so much for your help.
Just a few more questions before I do this...
This fw contains the latest android software right? And if I install this fw and the phone is locked to o2 Ireland, it will still be locked after I install the latest original stock fw? I'm not sure if it unlocks the phone too if I get rid of the network providers software that's already on the phone right now.

Kind of obvious, I get not wanting to break your Phone but that's just what you will do if you don't read things properly.

Hello,
Been waiting for update to Android 7.0 since the news been spread on XperiaBlog and XDA, but still no official release for 1299-6237 (HK Version). Hence, a question arise: Are there additional certifications that apply to HK ROM version that it takes so long for an update, or is there is another reason for it? Also, any idea when to expect the update then? Thanks for help in advance!

you can take the Indonesia or India version... since HK , the last update was .305 / oct2016 ... i am not sure why the stopped pushing for HK
Thanks for reply! I know I can manually flash it, but to be honest, with device like this I cannot be bothered (and frankly not many people do, as pretty much no development going on). I am more reliant on OTA or Companion updates as I do not want to lose my data. Hence it owuld be nice to know if someone would have an explanation for such nonsence really.
I was in the same boat as you. I bought my Z5p dual off of Amazon and received an HK version. I've been waiting for a Nougat update and could wait no longer. I updated using the russian update file and can confim that everything works and no bugs to report. Also no data was lost and my phone language remained in English post update. Should you change your mind...
But to contribute to your question, according to the Experia blog there appears to be a relatively big update coming in April to fix a couple of the Nougat issues with sound some users were reporting. That could be why they halted rollouts again.
Hello everyone! I live in Ukraine and bought my Razer Phone at a local store, but after the purchase I discovered that this is a Three version (a big "3" logo on boot). As far as I know, physically the device is 100% identical to the regular version sold on Amazon and RazerStore, if it is not - please correct me. As I understand, it isn't locked for a certain operator. Are there any differences in the 3UK firmware except the delays in updates and logo at startup? Is it possible to install a stock Razer Global firmware? If so, is it worth doing it?
Have a read around as there are a few posts regarding this topic.
3UK have been 1-2 weeks behind on getting MR1 and MR3 released compared to the offical Razer images. MR2 went live for non branded phones but had some bugs so 3UK skipped this update.
I belive razer fixed those bugs in MR3 and then 3UK took this stable build and tweaked it for their network before sending it out to their customer a week or so later along with the MR3 patch notes and just inculded the working bit of that update in their MR3.
Images are found here but id get advice from others as this is my 1st Android phone and still running the 3UK branded phone as im on their network.

Do you think that there are some tweaks for their network? I'm asking because only one of my two SIM cards works with my phone, both of them are not 3UK.

In the guides section there is a guide for "debranding a 3 UK handset". It involves flashing global mr1 software and taking the OTA to MR3. People in that forum swear by it. Start there.
