[Q] Verizon Htc one m7 unable to get in recovery - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Hi, I have Verizon HTC one m7. I am unable to get into recovery. It just reboot after showing black screen for few seconds when selected by power button in bootloader.
Can someone tell me why I am not able to get in recovery? I just bought it. It's fully stock official. Nothing is tried on it till yet. Help please

it doesn't come with a "custom recovery (like CWM or TWRP" by default, the only recovery is to factory reset
for that you'd have to root (And possibly S-Off) your phone.

that is not a custom recovery that is stock recovery where it just gives the phone a factory reset. you can root your phone with rumrunner with that hboot! after that you can install a recovery!

Thanks man. But I can't find any option for update from sdcard? Do I have to install custom recovery to apply update from sdcard.

Well the htcm7 has no SD card slot. M8 does however.
Root then put custom recovery on

on the M7, the "SDcard" refers to the internal storage that's mounted at "/sdcard"

Hboot doesnt know that, so it cant mount it. its looking for an external sdcard. when it returns as no then it skips.

Did you get it straightened out yet? What method of rooting were you using? When you boot to the bootloader, does it show you Ship S on or Ship S off? Report back, and I'll try to give you further instructions.

Okay. It sounds like you were using AutoRoot, I think. So your bootloader shows S off now. Do you have a recovery installed? From the bootloader, select recovery. What happens? Does it successfully boot to recovery, or does it give you a black screen with a triangle and exclamation point? If its the triangle and exclamation point, you don't have recovery, and you need to flash recovery. That's the next step. I'll attatch a PC36IMG of Amon Ra V2.3. Download that file, and put it on the main directory of your sd card. (you may need to put your sd card into a card reader to do this). Once the file is on your sd card, put the card back in, and boot to your bootloader. It should scan the sd card and find the PC36IMG, then ask you to press volume up to update. Do it. When it finishes, choose no to reboot, then select 'recovery' from the bootloader screen. From that point, you should then boot into recovery. If you successfully boot to recovery, you can then do a full wipe and flash a rom. let me know if you don't know how to do that.

That's an outdated method that doesn't work any more, right now you just have old firmware on your phone and that is why it won't let you boot normally. You're going to want to pull the battery and then hold vol down while turning it on to get to the bootloader. From there put it in fastboot mode and flash the 3.70 RUU. That should get you back up and running.
Once that is done there is a sticky in the Q&A section that has links to newer root methods in it.
i had that prob with unrevoked i pulled the battery held the vol. down an power to get the red triangle up restarted unrevoked and it finished it and got me rooted
yes to all no recovery, triangle comes up, yes please send attachments you mentioned to download. And i do not no how to do wipe. Thanks for all your help much appreciated. will wait for your next email. Thanks again

Save the file on the root of your SD card (not in any folder). Power off your device. Now simultaneously, press the down volume button and the power button until your device starts. When you enter the bootloader screen, there will be a short pause and then several lines of text will scroll across the screen. Afterwards, you will have options o choose. Choose "recovery". You will then boot into your recovery. Once you're in recovery, the menus are pretty self explanatory. There should be a wipe menu or something that pertains to wiping cache, dalvik, factory reset, etcetera. Basically, wipe everything in the menu except he SD card itself. Now go to the flash menu or something that pertains to flashing a zip. Select it and then select to flash the RUU rom file you just downloaded. Be patient. When it is complete, you should be given an option to reboot. Select reboot and wait until you device finish booting.

[Q] warranty

i made a big mistake when flashing rom, i don have boot.img, i flash paranoid rom and then reboot, at first startup it stucks at the screen. but after i long press power+volume - button, it then boot into fastboot, i then use the volume button to navigate to recovery. since i do not have previous rom backup, i just do system, dalvik and cache and wipe section. and then reboot again. now it stucked at htc quietly brilliant but bottom with red letter "this build is for development purposes only". i try long press power+volume but not responsive. i am not too sure it just stuck there or because my power button got a bit problem, sometimes need to press few times to unlock screen.
i tam so dumb, i just dunno how to deal with this.
so in this case, can i bring my phone to htc service station? is my warranty void during unlock bootloader?

the problem is now it is stuck at htc quietly brilliant. i long press power &volume- still cannot get rid of this, i am not too sure it is because the power button is spoiled or what. all in ove v kit also unable detect device.
Try pressing only power for more than 10 secs.it will then force a restart.

I understand, it almost happened to me once. Dude, you'll have to do whatever you can and somehow or the other get in fastboot mode.
Try pressing the power button hard enough...
When you do that, go to recovery, mount your sd card, transfer a Rom to your device, of needed from recovery you.can reboot to fastboot and flash the appropriate kernel.

thank god now i finally enter fastboot. now which step shall i proceed?
i think i messed up everything previously. what i knew i did correctly is unlock bootloader. now rooting part start screwing.
is it i need to root then flash kernel then flash custom rom?
Root doesn't matter because everything is done from fastboot and recovery.
From what was said above flash your kernel in fasboot USB then right after go to recovery from your hboot. Factory reset wipe (wipes everything besides sd card or will say fail because it didn't wipe sd that's good)
Then click install and chose the zip and then flash your gapps zip
If it is still stuck I know what the problem is if your primoc let's just take this one step at a time

Great, so I assume you have a booting device... First step you need to do is NOT press the power button or make sure you press it as few times as possible. You can also use sweep2wake by maxwen and I assume you already know that
This is because you don't want to damage the button more than it already is

[Q] Recovery mode red exclamation problem

Hi,
I just flashed my GNex to the stock yakju ROM using the link since, i wished to receive OTA updates. Everything is working properly except when i am trying to install Titanium Backup from recovery mode. When i get into recovery mode, i see the android logo with the red exclamation mark. Now, there are options available to install a stock recovery but i am uncertain that the OTA updates might stop if i install one !
Is there a way to rectify the recovery so that i can install titanium backup and restore my apps without losing OTA updates ?
Please point me to a link which explain the steps in details if possible as i have never done this before

AFAIK, The red exclamation mark is not recovery mode.
You need to press Vol button up + down + lock. Then phone will reboot into bootloader.
Choose recovery mode by pressing vol down. then press power button.

Ok, i understood that pressing vol up + power button takes you to the actual menu . I want to install titanium backup from the zip i have made. Can anyone tell me how it is to be done?
I see options like
a)apply update from adb
b)apply update from sd card
c)wipe cache/data partition
d)factory reset
Where exactly should i keep my .zip file in the storage ? Inside android folder so that i can use option (b) ? Is there any other way to install the zip ?
The red exclamation mark is the default recovery..................
Flash the latest copy of CWM/TWRP, Google for it, it's not hard..
If you do not have your bootloader unlocked, click on the bootloader link on my signature..
You can boot with a custom recovery without flash it. You should use this command in fastboot mode:
fastboot boot my_recovery.img
If you want flash recovery you should use:
(You will lose OTA updates)
fastboot flash my_recovery.img
Thanks for all your answers. I was able to access the menu by holding the vol up and power button simultaneously.

you can use either, but i use twrp.
when the OTA boots you into recovery, you just select the OTA file and flash it.
if you modified any other system files, it will fail and will tell you why it failed.

thats because those people modify system files and think they're still stock.
literally, if you just change the recovery and root your phone, you can still flash the OTAs. if you change anything else, install something that changes system files (such as busybox), you will not be able to install the OTA. it really is that simple.

Htc one m8 failed boot

I was playing a gbc emulator on my phone earlier when the screen went black and it seemed to freeze. I held down the power button till it powered off, then rebooted it, but it will not get past the white htc one screen.
I have attached a image of the sim lock page in the recovery, why all the errors?
My phone is completely stock, never rooted and has stock marshmallow 6.0 on it, which I updated to ota.
Thanks
Tigger
I cannot get into recovery either, on the screen with the red triangle, pressing vol up and power has no effect. If I hold them it just reboots the phone.

Try this: when on the screen with the triangle and exclamation point, press and hold power and tap on vol up to get to the recovery menu
Thanks, got into the recovery, did a factory reset and cleared the cache, but still looks like it won't boot. I guess that means a firmware restore then?
Thanks

Yeah, I like that method for RUU.zips. They are too large for regular fastboot and I don't want to bother with installing a second one (htc_fastboot)
Plus you don't even need a PC for it. Get a wifi connection, download the RUU.zip, rename it and move it to extSD, boot to bootloader and DONE.
Thanks, did a reflash from memory card and it is working fine. I don't know what happened, weird I guess.
Could it be because I had my 64gb SD card configured as internal storage?

TWRP Question

Stupid question but now I've rooted and installed TWRP how do I get to it to make a backup of my phone? I've downloaded the official app but not getting any options?? I figured that when you restarted the phone it give you an option to boot into TWRP but it just restarts..

Hook phone up to PC, type "adb reboot recovery." Or hold power + vol down and wait until in bootloader and use volume keys to select recovery then power to select recovery.
