Hi,
My new LG G3 just fall from 50cm high... and the screen is broken. (green zone on the following picture).
http://i.imgur.com/OZYJTS6.jpg
Since that a big part of the screen is not touch screen responsive anymore (the red one).
Do you guys know what part of the phone need to be changed ? Just the glass or in there any other component between the glass and the LCD Screen ?
I didn't find anything on ebay... I suppose the phone is too recent for that.
Take care of your G3, it seems to be very very fragile.

Damn! have you protected the phone with a case at least? i am using a fake spigen slim armor (yes fake), bough it for 3$ from china and it's the same as the original one... (i compared with my friends one)
Also here in Italy, we have a promo from LG Italy for 6 months you got the accidental damage covered (such as water damage, drop damage ecc...)
Too bad, i got the german version on this phone and can't apply this promo... [emoji20]
What you're gonna do with this phone now? Send it to LG for repairing it?

No cover on it... Was planning to buy one.
I'm in a country where the G3 is not available so I don't think local LG branch can do anything for me.
I think the digitizer need to be changed, but I'm not familiar with this kind of things so I'm not sure... I don't know if this is something easy to do on this phone, so maybe someone here already did this before and can help me.

Have you tried to contact the LG warranty service from where you bought it??
Replacing the digitizer it's a little bit risky, you can damage the screen... (Basically you need to pull off all the glass on the front, and it is also glued! my friend broke his Galaxy S3 screen when he was trying to replace the front glass)

OK thanks maybe I should try to find a professional to do it.
This kind of damage is not covered by the warranty

If the screen still turn on then it's only the digitizer (glass) is broken. Which is a much cheaper fix than replacing the lcd. Sorry to hear about ur accident

While I had my Touch Pro 2 in my right pocket, I entered my car and the phones screen got a crack because of my stupid steering-wheel.
It's just a crack on the glass not the display itself, so the touchscreen and the display work flawlessly but the crack is pretty long (3-4cm).
Is there a way to change that upper part of the phone and how much does it cost?

Thanks but it seems as if his screen totally broke. On my phone it's "just" the glass that has a crack. Like I said, it still works like a charm (besides windows mobile which is a pain in the butt )

ha ha, idiotic steering wheel, not getting out the way of your phone! (Sorry - I'm allowed to have a bit of fun with your misfortune as a drunk guy urinated all over my 1 week old Pro2... grrr!)
Anyway, on a more helpful note, I think your best option is to send it back to HTC for repair. They'll charge for it, but even if you could do it yourself, you'd void the warranty. Hopefully it won't be too expensive, but it's worth contacting them to see.
Let us know how you get on.
Thanks but I'm very busy at the moment and cant afford to wait some weeks for my phone to return
everybody is saying "glass", now i feel convinced that there's something missing from my phone. my touchscreen just feels like a membrane. only touchscreen i've used with glass is the iphone. please somebody tell me that there's not a problem with my TP2??
the softer layer is the resistive touch screen part, that pushes against the glass which holds back the LCD

Hi,
I am very sorry for your phone. Trust me I know how you feel You are the third person with me who has a serious problem with the screen.
The problem is the screen is a compact piece like a digital, square, rectangle box which consists of one part only. It has no seperate or tearable upper part on it, I know because I have ordered one from a third party.
Therefor the only repair solution is to change whole screen unfortunately. So you should return it to service.
Regards

How much did you pay in total and did you repair it yourself?
And I think that I just cracked the screen cover and nothing of the deeper ones.
I am delivering it to back to customer service. I bought the part but I could not change it; it was so hard to open that har and I did not want to void warranty.
So either use the phone with the screen scratched or change the lcd completely.
Regards.
So how much did you pay? Did you send your phone back to the uk or did you let it repair in ankara? And is there a good shop in ankara to change the language from a german touch diamond 2 to turkish (for usage with AVEA)?
And I just realized that I didn't crack the topmost surface but the deeper laying glass. Hmmmmm still working :/ I'm going to visit ankara this year and if it is cheaper than here, I might consider letting it repair over there.
I have sent it to UK via a friend. The repair shop in Ankara did not want to deal with since it was brand new under guarantee and they didn't know the device well. So I did not take the risk, chose the hard way, I think this seems to be the corect way.
I don't know yet the repair price though.
Regards.
Cracked mine too sent away under insurance and they simply sent me a brand new phone.
Hello to all. I did my fair bit of research on this forum about a screen replacement for the International version of Galaxy Nexus but could not find any suitable solution to an Indian user. I got my Nexus from Amazon and lost my screen in a pretty harsh fall. There are cracks developed at the top of the fortified glass and I could not find any screen replacements in my city/country so far.
I would like to know if any of you have replaced the i9250 screen anywhere outside the U.S and if so, what are the reliable options available? Singapore perhaps (Pretty close to India), anyone know of any place there?
Please do help if you can, I'd be much obliged.
Me too ;(

You may have to order a screen internationally. Check Amazon and
eBay.
Also, make sure that when you buy a screen the screen you buy is specifically for your device (GSM).

Do a search, it's out there.
did anyone tryed to change only the glass to a nexus? i've read some articles on xda over changeing the outer glass to i9000.
I have other question: the outer glass isn't glued to the whole digitizer? will i damage the digitizer if i try removing only the glass?

Yes to both. The original screen replacement come as a whole package, so you basically switch the internals to the new case+screen.

if you are not very careful, yes.
I repair cell phones a side job. Screen replacements are my specialty. I haven't personally done a GNex but if its anything like the S2, it can be done. The key is patience and attention to detail. When I do screens like those, I budget an hour and a half for time to remove it. Its better to take a few breaks and double check your work than drop $150 on a replacement LCD because you were in a rush.
That brings my to my second point. The worst thing that will happen is you crack your LCD, so it can be fixed. You won't break it beyond repair. But don't try it unless you are ready to spend the extra money *IF* you mess up.
THANK'S for the advices
@ rudeguy: can you be more specific, like where exactly do you start from removing the glass, do you aply heat to a small are and the remove, what tools do you use? once again, thank's in advance!
PS:how does the digitizer stuck's to the glass? wown't i allso remove the digitizer when i'll remove the glass?
Hey everyone,
Just yesterday, I managed to somehow do this : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62874133/IMG_20120815_022135-1.jpg to my phone. However, the phone still registers the touch inputs even on the crack ( see : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62874133/Screenshot_2012-08-15-12-21-48.png ). Does this mean I just need a new lens as found here : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Front...ltDomain_0&hash=item53ee3cff34#ht_1596wt_1165 ? Or do I need a new digitizer as found here : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Frame-LCD-T...000?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc82f3618 ?
Thanks so much.
ohhh that sucks!!
I got my screen broken too and like yours touchscreen was still working. I had to pay around $40 to the local repair shop to replace it.. i think new lens will be good enough for you.. but before you buy, go to a repair shop for checking i guess

I went to 5 repair shops and they said that they would need to change the entire thing so it would be around $190. Which shop did you go to? The touchscreen works fine, so does this mean that they are wrong?
If I'm not mistaken the "display" is glued to the digitizer, basically the glass is the digitizer. If you do plan to separate the screen from the glass I would be extremely cautious while doing so. As one mistake can scratch the display.
The Glass, digitizer and screen are glued together, afaik this is what the "super" means in AMOLED.
You might be able to separate them, but I don't know of anyone who had managed to.
Tbh your best bet is to replace the whole unit
Separating digitizer from glass would be plain hard, but your digitizer is still in one piece.you could try it,but it would be hard and you need to be very careful.if you suceed, buy just the glass,if you break the whole thing, pay for the total replacement, you end up with the same thing.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Yes they are glued and you have to buy the set. When they get calibrated together its then set. Separating them gives the chance that you may not line up where you touch and that same point on the display.
Thanks so much for your replies!
Well, considering the fact that a new Galaxy Nexus is $300 at a local store, I'll pass on getting the new digitizer + lcd panel. Has anyone tried taking out the LCD and putting a new one? (Like this : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Front...6256&pid=100011&prg=1005&rk=1&#ht_1290wt_1165 )? Does anyone know if it's still possible? I'd really like for this phone to be in perfect shape :/
I have an LS970 and I recently dropped it pretty hard onto a desk. The bottom quarter of the screen stopped working after the drop along with the capacitive touch buttons at the bottom. I was able to deal with this but today when I sat on the couch my phone fell again and a crack went down the middle of the digitizer. Now only some areas work and I am not able to unlock it. Before I buy a new digitizer and lcd I want to know if it could have also been main board issues that made the bottom part of the screen not work since no cracks appeared after dropping it on a desk. Thanks
I am about 99% sure its ya digitizer/LCD ... The main bored is tucked well in the middle of the phone ....I have pictures up on the sim card mod thread if u wanna c ...

It's the digitizer. I have a wonderful wife whom I love very much who has broken her screen three times. Each time that the screen broke, the digitizer went with it. It has to do with the fact that there is essentially no separation between the two on our phones, so drops that damage the screen almost always damage the digitizer.

I just picked up a broken LG Optimus G off craigslist and toward the bottom of the screen it has a hairline crack. Also the capacitive buttons do not work either....my problem sounds exactly like the OP.
Can anyone suggest a good place to buy a cheap digitizer/glass/ LCD?? I'm lookin on ebay and they seem to be about $80
Thanks,
Kevin
I've been looking around ebay too and they're all about 80 for the cheapest. I checked out a few phone repair websites and prices are much higher there. If you find anything cheaper let me know. I plan on buying it soon.
EDIT: The best I found on ebay was 78 was from the US and 69 from China. I know they are all from china but it's just a shipping time thing.

Based on the dialogue I had when my wife's screen broke not only with the insurance carrier but also a repair shop, replacing the screen or digitizer on this phone is always going to be very expensive because both parts almost always have to be replaced together. $80 sounds very inexpensive to me based on those conversations.

Hi!
Any update since October? I`m facing the same issue. I have googled a bit and found some complaints related to LCDs from Aliexpress claiming that they are no so bright and blurry, sometimes with white spots.
I have also find only a glass replacement https://www.aliexpress.com/item/5-7...lgo_pvid=aec8908f-0e28-4202-a650-ab20f3981970
of a glass with digitizer: http://www.ebay.com/itm/for-LeEco-L...966586?hash=item58e23ffdba:g:z4wAAOSw-kdXxPkl
But... also a lot people claims that the LCD is almost inseparable from glass... Do anyone have an experience with only glass replacement?
I found a local service that claims to be able to do that.. but I do not know whether to trust them not destroy the LCD. The said, that they do not have an experience with Le Max 2 but with other phones.
Thanks

If you can get the fast delivery, then you can give it a go. Although it's a risky operation,it might be alright in the end. The service should have some experience if they say that for other brands/phones they have succeeded. It might be ok, but always keep in mind that something might go wrong. And it's not worth waiting 2 months for the glass and another 2 for the display.
Edit: you can google the process and you will see how it's done for other phones. They need to have special devices.

Thanks for such a fast reply. I already did https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRqSyZk1SOU It seems to be very tricky. I have relatively fast delivery about 2-3 weeks so I`ll give it a try with only a glass an digitizer http://www.ebay.com/itm/for-LeEco-L...966586?hash=item58e23ffdba:g:z4wAAOSw-kdXxPkl.
I`ll write a review after the whole process is done for future reference
Very difficult. They make it look easy on youtube. I attempted a glass only repair on a nexus 6. You have to have correct amount of heat, and the LCD is very fragile. Too much heat will damage the display, but you need enough heat to soften the loca glue to be able to separate the glass from the lcd.. I even had a scientific dry bath at my disposal to get the right temp.. Not worth a home repair attempt IMO.
Cost of the le max 2 is just the reason I bought this phone (vs a $600+ device) and put on tempered glass from Ali express for less than $2. Will you consider replacing your phone for $200?
My wife broke her tempered glass protector twice on the max 2. Easy fix, just replaced the tempered glass cover. I'm just saying I learned the hard way, on a more expensive Nexus 6. I wasn't aware of tempered glass protectors then. Even after destroying my lcd (by trying a glass-only repair) and ending up buying the lcd+glass assembly, I still didn't get the phone's frame tight with the display assembly to make it acceptable.
I tried to repair lcd once for another phone. It took me 1h just to disassemble the phone, and half an hour more to try to carefully separate lcd from digitizer. I failed and then there was no point spending another hour puting the phone back together and had to throw all those tiny parts to the garbage. Think about this before you try.
Home repairs of such kind are a no go. This is why I encourage him to go to the repair shop where they do that kind of repairs to the screen. They do have a special heated plate with temperature adjustment, a vacuum device that eliminates any bubbles between the lcd and glass, etc. Also do note that not all the repair shops are doing this. Most of them are collecting phones for the specialized shops and charge an extra fee.
In conclusion, this kind of repair is not for everybody, and it would be best done in a specialized repair shop. For reference, check the following video:
I know it's written in romanian and for an Allview, but I guess that most of the things are understandable to get the idea of how complicated the whole process is for any home attempt.
So, after a month in repair center I have my phone back. The screen is an original one with digitizer changed. Between digitizer and screen there are some bubbles, buttons are switched, like back is on a left instead of right and the bugged issue... They are very undeterministic and do not always work and sometimes they work without even touching so... Apps are switching and so on... I needed to disable them and use gestures instead.
The repair was about 40USD and digitizer 15 USD... It is hard to say whether it was worth it or exchange the complete screen.

Replacing the screen + digitiser on this model is pretty easy provided you have access to a hot air gun. Took me about 15 minutes and I'm in NO WAY a pro. For the price of a new screen I definitely wouldn't attempt a digitizer-only repair.
