Custom Dialer - Web App Development

Sorry if I have placed this in the wrong forum but my question is.
I am looking for a custom dialer app
All I want is the ability to select a contact and have the phone dial it. I do not want people to be able to dial using the numeric pad. I would like the pad to be password protected so that only an administrator can add or remove contacts. So basically when they hit the phone symbol it simply pulls up the contact list only. I have searched hi and low and can not find anything. If I have to code it myself I will, I am proficient in 6502 assembly as well and Visual Basic, forth and several other non c/java languages. Willing to learn but hope someone can assist.

Simple Phone Dialer Skin

Was wondering if anyone can direct me to a simple dialer skin or program with the following features:
- Keypad,
- Number being dialled, and
- Answer, Reject
and nothing else...no Start button, no shortcuts at the bottom...nothing! A plain full screen dialer without the useless crap!
Similar to iPhone. I realise that WM6 is customisable but for heaven's sake I don't want to use a stylus to dial! This is non userfriendlyness to the max!
Check out http://paulya.com/dialerskins.htm
They haven't been updated in a while, but they are truly "thumb-dial friendly"
The only other real optuion that I've seen in the "Touch dialer" here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=44097&d=1184598745
There's a variety of skins out for both. Search the forums and you'll find them...
You can try the one in this thread - select the non-3G dialpad.
Something even simpler
Thanks all for your response. I have had a look at the said options but believe me when using the phone in a cradle in the car, even such layouts are not sufficiently chunky?! What does it take to create my own dialer?
Have you thought of getting Voice Command by MS no its not free but I will never have another phone without it. Gives you voice dialing options and since you can assign a hardware button to it you'd only have to press one button.

dialer
never mind
Great Touch Dialer
The touch dialer indicated is great!
can anyone fix this to work on a Spint Vogue?

WM6 Dialer App/Macro

I'm amazed that I haven't been able to find something like this, but maybe I'm just not looking in the right places . . .
I want to find a WM6 app that lets me keep all of my Contacts in the international standard (+ [intl code] [area code] [prefix/number]), but then let me define different profiles that would automatically adjust the number before I dial it. The profile would not need to change automatically. I'm happy to change it myself, depending on the situation -- as traveling, using calling card or not, etc. These profiles would let me adjust for what country I'm in, whether I want to use a calling card, etc, etc.
For example, these are some of the profiles I could have:
[IN JAPAN]
Rule #1: Replace "+" with "0041 010"
Rule #2: Replace "+81 xxxxxx" with "0 xxxxxx"
[IN EUROPE/US]
Use Contacts as-is
[In EUROPE/US: CALLING CARD]
Append calling card info in front of number automatically
The most important usage of this app would be when dialing out calls, but it could also be applied to SMS/MMS. I don't use those as often, so I'm not sure how useful an app like this would be for those.
Does anyone have an app they would recommend for this?
Thanks in advance!
Sunnysoft callingcard can do something like this. However, it's interface is rather silly designed and, what it bothers me, you cannot redial the number (i.e. it doesn't show up in the dialed call log).
If you find another option, please _do_ pm me and post it here, since I'm looking for a while for something better.
Maybe something can be done using mortscript?
Thanks for the quick answers. I'll take a look at both of those . . . and keep looking for something else. This seems like an app that would be useful to a lot of people -- surprised it's not built into the OS or available as a 3rd-party app.
I also looking for this feature still no hopes.. surrpise a poweful WM phone doesn't included from OS rather a low processor regular Nokia and SonyEricsson all have.

fw:A Little More Information about Copy and Paste

http://www.windowsphone7series.com/...eral-discussion_little-information-copy-paste
We started building the new Windows Phone 7 Series around two big but simple ideas: Your phone should understand what you care about most - and your phone should enable you to do the things you want in fewer steps.
That's why Windows Phone 7 Series will not initially offer copy and paste. We looked at some of the most common uses for copy and paste, and simplified them with a single-tap action.
Say you're looking at an appointment in your calendar. You need to know when the meeting starts - but you also need to know where to go. In the past you would have to copy the address, open a mapping application or site, paste from the clipboard and then click a button to get a result. With Windows Phone 7 Series, you just click on that address and jump straight to a map.
If you're surfing the Web and you come across a piece of information you'd like to know more about, you don't have to exit your browser and go into a search application. Just highlight the word and click the search key. The new search results are now available at your fingertips.
And of course, Windows Phone 7 Series also supports clickable phone numbers in emails, in browser, and in search results.
In our early testing people have been pleased with this approach - but we're always listening to feedback, and we will continue to improve our feature set over time based on what we hear.

M$ just want to do some stuff to replace copy/paste ,not cut it
But it's not an either/or type thing. MS could have done both, if they'd wanted to.
I also don't like being forced to use bing! to search for whatever I highlight in the browser(without having to type it out on whatever search engine I may wanna use instead). I seriously dislike the tight control MS apparently built into the system. And I actually loved WP7s before MIX10, now I'm having second thoughts...

So what if I receive an email containing some information I want to place into a Note?
If I can't copy the info from the email, go into the Notes app and paste it into a new or existing note, then what do I do? Write it all down on a piece of paper and then re-type it into the note?
If someone emails me their address, I won't be able to paste that into their contact details?
This just beggars belief! I use C&P all the time, and not for the limited uses Microsoft have come up with!
I do not keep old emails for the information they contain - I rip the info out of the email, put it where it SHOULD be on my phone (maybe in a contact, a new event, a note, a task, whatever) and then bin the email. Without C&P this will be IMPOSSIBLE!!!
The usage scenarios given in the OP are not replacements for Copy & Paste, they are LINKS from a piece of info to another function. Copy & Paste is all about MOVING or COPYING information from one object to another. This will ALWAYS be needed by anyone using the phone for any kind of data. Not being able to copy data around between Word and Excel is just a complete FAIL.

my understanding is that u would be able to copy a address or number into a contact and into bing (address), a bit like its a hyperlink that opens up a option menu that lets u send it to pre-defined locations.

I don't see how it would recognize an address. Phone number, yes, I can see that, but an address?
For instance, if I receive the following email;
"Hi, yeah the address is The Willows, London Road, Trowbridge, Kent cheers mate - John"
How in heck will WP7S know there's an address in there?
Not only that, you just said it'll be able to "copy a address into a contact" - I've no idea where you got that from but Microsoft have clearly indicated there WILL BE NO COPY function. So even if it did recognise the address through some miracle of place recognition, the best you could hope for is that it would show you a map, so you would have to keep the email on your phone for ever more and remember that the address is in that particular message. Frankly it's completely unworkable.
As far as I can tell, the only way WP7S will be able to spot an address is if it is in AN ADDRESS FIELD in a contact or a calendar entry.
Mark my words, in less than 2 firmwareupdates the copypaste function is back. Why go to iPhone OS 1.0 and lose all advantage of not being the first one to develop such an interface?
Imho, this is just plain-stupid.
If Microsoft are so worried about all the dumb users, then ship the phone with cut & paste switched off, and add an option to turn it on in the Settings, so the smart users can use it if they choose to. It's not Rocket Science. When you're designing software and you're faced with an arbitrary decision about a feature, always just make it optional.

you know what? HTC messaging does that even now.
When you click on a text message, it pops up a list of options that you would like to do....
Better yet, what about addresses for folks who live in other places in the world where the address might not be recognizable in english. for instance
-> 72 dr ea cooray mawatha, wellawatte. thats a legitimate address in sri lanka.
I think they will have complete text message copy and paste, and not selective copy and paste to get around apple's patent.
this is assuming people want to be robbed of their $ by paying and subscribing to a data plan. i do NOT plan to do that. i'm gonna just buy the phone and use wifi.

He he, I've been writing a couple answers to this question, and I've ended up deleting them every single time, because I'm having difficulty saying what I wanna say...
Generally speaking, yes it's about choice. No one likes being forced to do things in a certain way? Especially if they feel there's a better way?
With regards to Bing! being the only way to search in a copy/paste type of way, that bugs me. I don't mind if Bing! is the only integrated search engine, or if only Bing! is allowed to use the Bing!/search button. but please allow me the freedom to choose if I wanna use Bing! or not. Without copy/paste there is effectively no choice. It smells of MS wanting to grow Bing! by forcing people to use it. I don't like that. I don't like that one teeny tiny little bit.

I totally understand your position....I am like that too.
"Especially if they feel there's a better way" -> I will rephrase it this way
"Especially if they feel there might be a better way"
but the fact that bing would integrate itself, might in the end make it to the choice

[DEVELOPMENT] CycBubbles [Stage 1: Gathering Ideas]

A Small Story to serve as an introductory:
So a while back, when I got my brilliant Excalibur, I started developing small applications. Some of you may recall the, now long dead , thread I had called CycloneApps [By Request]. I started with C#, and did some ok things [in my opinion] and they helped serve as a learning block for bigger and better developments. I have gone from CMail.exe, the command-line replacement to tmail.exe, all the way to FFP_LockScreen [Fake FingerPrint LockScreen], which unfortunately was aimed at Touch-Screen phone users as a project I undertook as I showed interest on a thread in the Software Development sub-forum. I got my original inspirations and 'drive' to develop from this here community, the Excalibur owners or supporters, and I thought it be best that I now fulfill a request made by Ookba, the great Chef who has brought our phones new life.
See, shortly after I started taking requests, Ookba suggested I re-make SMSBubbles to be more functional with the ROM. At the time, with the speeds of the .NET CF, it seemed impossible to really do. But I come back to you all now with the knowledge of C++ So as a token of my appreciation to all Excalibur owners, I want to develop CycBubbles, an SMSBubbles remake with features YOU want!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Having said all of that, I ask now that if anyone has any interest in such a program becoming available to the Excalibur, they reply to this thread with Ideas concerning one of the following:
Soft-Keys: What should the LEFT soft-key and RIGHT soft-key do [ and under what circumstances] ?
Look and Feel: Do you like the SMSBubbles 'bubble', or do you want something different? [Realize that more complex designs = slower speed]
Rules: How about some filter-rules about when the bubble should or should NOT appear.
Positioning: Do we all like the bubble at the bottom of the screen? Maybe we can make it more PPC-Like if it were in the Center, or from the TOP.
Extra Functions: What kind of extras would you like? (i.e. Should I utilize the 0 - 9 keys on the keyboard to do something?)
Once I get the ideas from YOU guys/girls, on what YOU want this program to do, I can start developing
Please consider
if you want to see this program really flourish
Reserved for later use
Rules would be awesome. How about setting bubbles only for certain contacts? Would the .cab install work for other ROM's besides ookba's?
I would most definitely aim to make the program ROM INdependent.
Thank You for the feedback
it would be interesting to make the left and right soft keys customizable...
and as for the location/look of the bubbles, that to would be nice to customize and to relocate wherever the user feels. top, bottom, left, right, center...
the rules sounds good, and maybe apply an ignore feature to certain annoying contacts lol. like a black list on contacts that the bubbles won't show up for.<-- pretty much what Frostmoon said. lol
pretty much make it user customizable friendly.
nice to see you around these parts again.
Due to the rather disheartening amount of feedback on this thread, I will most likely not develop this in the near future .
I am currently consumed with finishing up my next version of Fake FingerPrint LockScreen for Touch-Screen phones, but that should be over in about a week.
I have been pondering re-starting development on my Horizon Home-Screen, if any of you remember that (if not, you can search it). My further knowledge of C++ will most definitely assist me in making this HomeScreen I had dreamed of making a while back when I only knew C#.
So I suppose be on the lookout for any news on that, and check here occassionally to see if I post back. For now, I am going to leave this on Stage 1 (Gathering Ideas), NOT DISCONTINUED, because I do hope to have the time to come back to this soon and give back to the community that started me off

Yeah it's a real shame as the idea was requested by users yet response so small, no longer have an Excalibur but think that the development of a SMS bubble app with more configurable options would be welcomed by many smartphone users and not just Excalibur, maybe worth thinking as a project for D&H rather than just Excalibur users.

Yes, it did serve as a sort of inspiration to start up. Thank You to those who did contribute ideas thus-far. I have not started up a thread yet, but http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7166724&postcount=39
Expect something soon (Within a month maybe?)
Also, I am now officially a co-founder, and primary developer for Chicken-Egg Solutions. This will become my main venue for application development and requests, as well as web-design, computer repair, and problem solutions (Most of these will be taken care of by my friend, the other Co-Founder). The website will be up soon (www.chicken-eggsolutions.com), check back every so often
Hi Cyclone,
We met in another thread. But I would like to raise my function request here for your consideration.
I am looking for a delivery note management function that allows my to keep track of my sms receiver. I would like to know who, by name, have received my sms and at what time. I don't know if such function is appropriate for the software you are developing. If so, please consider to add this function into it. If not, appreciate if you can point me to the right direction.
So are you requesting, as opposed to the normal Delivery Requests that Windows Offers, to make a type of 'Delivery Notification' that gets stored in some XML-like file for future reference?
It will be great if the software can list out the receiver name and date/time of the delivery notification. It will ever greater if it can match the sms/delivery notification with the acknowledgement send out by the receiver after receiving my sms.
If it only output an XML, user will have to figure out how to display it on a mobile phone.
how about an option of reading the incoming sms....like in nokia mobiles

ya... how about that.. i think it shuld be customizable soft button or a different button..
I will see. I feel that that may increase the size of the app distinctly, and also distinctly reduce the speed. Although I could probably figure a way to not let it be affected.
Anywho, Thank you, ALL, so much for these ideas. I suppose that I will start attempting to make this once I am fully done with my FFP_LS pro (Which, by the way, works on Excaliburs! and other non-touch-screen phones ) and when I get my internet back fully.

Thanks for your work and for sharing it, we will wait then
Revised Idea, and then some
Okay, so this post contains a little meat to it
1) I want to let people know about FFP_LockScreen Pro 2.0, now available on my website( www.chicken-eggsolutions.com ). My partner and I do app development as well as web design/development. FFP_LS Pro 2.0 is fully based on C++, has many customizable components, and best of all it is (what I consider to be) a pretty legitimate replacement lock for our phones. I have made this version (and all future versions) compliant with our lovely Excaliburs. Instead of having to press the screen, trick people with a "slight of hand" by putting your finger on-screen while pressing the space-bar with your knuckle (thats how it works for me) and it will start scanning. Trust me, it mystified half my family already haha. Anywho, it is shareware, so there is a free NON-EXPIRING trial. THe trial has its limiatations however. Also, another feature that is in this for our lovely Exca's that is currently NOT available to TOuch-Screen phones is true replacement (sorta) of the default lock. By using specific API commands, I was able to get it to run when we initiate the default lock! Cocky as it may sound, I feel this lockscreen beats S2U2 in 3 ways: (1) Tests have shown it to boot faster, (2) it actually replaces the default lock, and doesn't use some timeout trick, and (3) is actually blocks other windows [unlike S2U2 which can be overridden by pressing the TaskManager key or Messaging Key (on my phone at least)]. So yeah, personally I recommend it, but I made it. I will extend the same challenge here as I did on the Development forums: If you can make an interesting skin for the program, you can win a free license (3$ value)
2) So recently I have become extremely pissed off with tmail.exe. When I have actual 'conversation - length' messages, it is slow and just overall frustrating! So I thought, "Hey, I am already starting CycBubbles...why not make it a whole 'suite' type thing". So I am considering making my own Messaging Client EXE. It would be a major switch, as it would eliminate CE MAPI for the most part (it would keep messages stored there, but its main access would be via XML). Then as an extension to this I can h ave CycBubbles. Generally, I find, SMSBubbles works...and it is reliant on CE Mapi, so I can make one reliant on XML, not CE MAPI, that works comfortably with my own client. What do you think of that idea? This would obviously require a lot more time. But if it is what I imagine I can do, it will be faster and better
So I guess that is it really... If i remember anything else I wanted to say, I will post back again!

Lack of Area Code notation removes contact detection on WinMo 6.5

Hello
Earlier today I upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.5.
Since none of my number are in 61+ notation [Country Code], there is not contact recognition, and I have to manually assign each person who's called me to there corresponding number.
How do I automate this process, i.e.; do I change something in the registry, or is their a tool to prepend 61+ to each stored number?
Please tell me how I can get contact detection to work accurately.
Thanks in advance,
