Attention!!!: will keep this thread updated and current as long as i still have a working phone with internet or a computer with internet that's a promise to you all
Hello XDA Sprint/Boost/Virgin S3 Users
I have decided to add this to the themes and apps section since it not here.....V4A has been around for a while boosting the overall sound of your android device. Now in this thread i am gonna share how i have it set up on my s3 what i have turned on and what not....
Here's the OP so you can get the app (and to thank them) if your not on Wicked X Rom which comes with this app pre-installed (you have to update it to the latest if you have Wicked X 7.3{ Wicked X 8.0 and Barebones have the latest V4A} )...So for ND8 stock, CarbonRom and so on....i haven't been able to install the sound driver in NDC stock tho.....
here's the screen shots of how i have it set up for headphones. I have Viper installed on stock ND8 right now and this is with my SOL REPUBLIC 1112-31 JAX In-Ear Headphones and this setting has nice bass and clarity also i have the latest version installed v2.3.3.0 codename: Beautiful
if you already have this installed share your settings on here and explain what it sorta sounds like (strong bass, high mid section etc..) and the rom your using as well
and your more then welcome to use my settings or anyone else's settings if anyone else posts on here
Working with: CarbonRom, Illusion Rom, Nameless Rom, Liquid Smooth, Stock ND8, Stock other sprint/boost/virgin TW rom, Tribute Rom, Wicked X Rom and now CM12 and Liquid Smooth V4 check last Edit
Not Working: Stock NDC (will put in working if anyone else can confirm), sadly SOKP Milestone 04 is on this part of the list :/, you tell me if it doesn't work on the rom your on and i will add on here
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: if you want help installing the sound driver it would help if you say which Rom you are using; if someone has it working on that Rom it's more then likely that they will help you install it so you can enjoy eargasim sound like the rest of us
Edit: if no one has it working on that Rom i will add it to the not working section in this thread so others know if it will before they try that Rom and complain that it isn't working
Edit: updated settings on post #17
Edit: working on Lollipop click me
Edit: Sony MDR-ZX310 Profile
Edit: hello everyone it's been a while and because I don't want to make another thread I'm gonna let the LG G Stylo users comment on here
I like the idea of this thread. If I had to choose between apps I use with root, this one would be on the top.
My headphones are Ultrasone HFI-780 and can handle heavy bass and treble very well. Due to S-Logic being integrated into them as well I chose to turn on surround effects (which actually sound really cool once you get used to it)
Here is my setup. I also have my configuration saved in my signature below if you'd like to try it out.
Master Power: Enabled
Firequalizer: Enabled
Preset: Custom
(3.1, 3.1, 3.4, 3.5, 2.9, 2.5, 1.1, 0.3, 0.0, 0.0)
Convolver: Enabled
Impulse Response: HTC Beats Audio ((128K MP3)).irs
Headphone Surround+: Enabled
Effects Level: Level 2
Reverberation: Enabled
Room Size: 25m2
Sound Field: 7m
Damping Factor: 70 percent
Wet Signal: 10 percent
Dry Signal: 70 percent
Dynamic System: Enabled
Listening Device: Common Earphone(v2)
Dynamic Bass: 12 percent
Fidelity Control: Enabled
Bass Mode: Natural Bass
Bass Frequency: 60hz
Bass Boost: 12.0 dB
This configuration is probably my favorite setup of all of them I have used in the last few years. It has a great balance of bass and treble without getting too heavy on either side. Enjoy.
I'm using the latest, and possibly last, SOKP. I can't get the driver to install. At all. Tried moving the Viper apk into system/app and also system/priv-app. Anytime I reboot it says I need to install the driver. It won't stick.

When you first press the sound driver you want (it's better to choose the first one for best performance), does it say it installed before you restart?.....and do you have Busybox installed?....cause I've noticed that it needs it

It says it does install and needs a reboot to work. But then says the exact same thing after a reboot. I do have the latest busybox installed.

I have no mods installed at all. Just straight stock SOKP.
Here's what I use when listening with the ear buds that came with my S3 (which aren't half bad)
Pretty basic, I leave most of the surround stuff alone, just not my thing.

The impulse response setting is really cool! Beats audio and Xperia

okay i will download latest build and flash with Philz recovery and i will see if without really messing with it just the standard Viper app install both regular install and system install then I'm gonna try messing with it to see what settings make it install the sound driver and if no luck then i will add to the not working rom list :/
edit: I am currently downloading the rom and I'm gonna use the PA Micro Gapps that i normally use with AOSP Roms and i will come with more info once it finishes downloading
edit: for some reason its taking me longer to download Milestone 04 SOKP then it took me to download Wicked X 7.3 which had the gapps included .-.
edit: download failed for the 3rd time I'm done for today will try again when i get home later and also tomorrow :/
Couldn't make it work with SOKP unfortunately....so for now it's on the not working list but if you can make it work on that Rom help @Kreatur3 out with how you made it work

Thanks for trying bro. Truly appreciated. I'm going to make a backup and check out conquest next. I'll probably end up on SOKP at some point. The built in audio options don't work with Pandora though and that's where I do most of my listening.

Try this app: I include it in my stock based roms and it works like a dream:
VIPER4ANDROID
I use the FX version because I believe the other version is only for headphones.
I compared the sound of cromi x and an Android 4.3 rom, but i must say that the sound of cromi is louder. Tried to install viper4android and seems to work over headphones, but when playing sound over speakers i do not hear much of a difference. I read something in cromi x about lib change to improve sound on a me301t? Is it possible in a kernel to run on an 4.3 rom?

Did you try the FX version? There are 2 versions of Viper4Android
There are a bunch of audio lib files for the ME301 that sbdags gave me for my grimlock rom as well, but I am not sure if they will have any sort of effect on the 4.3 roms, as those lib files were designed for stock based 4.2
Try installing ViPER4Android_XHiFi_4.0~4.3_2102-1.apk
Or you also need to play with some of the settigs.
Try these:
Select Effect Strength Extreme
Max Gain 10x
Hi Clarity 100
Output Gain 6.0 db
Limt Threshold 0 db
Oh and don't forget you have to go into Settings Sound and Music effects and make sure ViPER is selected.

Any bugs anyone has encountered? Other than the unmodified sound levels? Anyone have a favorite of the 4 listed to work so far?

With some apps you can't use dsp managers. Like soundcloud or tunein radio.

Resurrection Remix ROM for Xperia M 5.1.3
This rom contains lot of bugs even lot of UI glitches.
Eg. Music player music art get stuck on the lock screen and dose not go off. theme needs to be reapplied.
Worst DSP manager and sound from music player, setting does not work or it causes over effect.
Try Reflash the ROM, first flash 4.3 ROM with Root, and do full wipe in CWM, flash the ROM (Boot IMG is Include in the ROM file) :good:
Try it

Hi guys.
Here is a port from CyanogenMod's new DSP manager called AudioFX, present in CM11S (for the OnePlus One) and also in CM12 and the ROMs based on it.
Installing this is simple. Just download the flashable zip which is proper for your Android version and flash it via custom recovery.
Notes:
1. Do a nandroid backup before flashing. I'm being serious. Do NOT skip this step.
2. KitKat version tested only on the Moto G running stock 4.4.4.
Lollipop version was tested on same device running GPE 5.0.1.
Works with Motorola stock roms too, regardless of being odexed or deodexed.
Might also work on other Moto devices such as the Moto E (1st gen, maybe 2nd gen too), G 2nd gen, X (both generations), and Droid Turbo / Moto Maxx. However, I CANNOT guarantee that it'll actually work.
3. This will remove DSPManager, AOSP MusicFX or Motorola AudioEffects if one of them is already installed.
4. As a protection measure, the flashable zips have an Android version check function in their scripts. So be sure to download the right version or it'll refuse to install.
Lollipop version originally based on @eng.stk's zip for the Nexus 5 -- original thread is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/themes-apps/mod-cm-dspmanager-universal-zip-t2939933
And thanks to the very first author, the CyanogenMod team. Huge kudos to them.
Changelog
Version 1.0
— Initial release.
Version 1.0r1
— Revised updater-script - goodbye gigantic alert text
— Now removes Motorola's AudioEffects too, which causes conflicts with this app and causes Settings FC's
Changelog moved to OP.

Does this make the bass sound same as it was on the other phones?
Because on my XT1032 running CM11 & CM12 it made no effect. I was hearing damn 100-150 Hz bass sound instead of 50-60 Hz.
Can somebody test and report please.

Hold on. I'll test here and fix if i can. Btw, how do you measure that frequency?
I distinguish that frequencies because of audio enthusiasm
That would be great if you can find a solution.

You're right ... Wich version did you installed? Mine is V3, the first in the post. I tried the other V4 but same result.
I think this is because i couldn't flash the ZIP directly via the recovery it says "installation failed". So i have extracted the ZIP file and run the APK in. It must be a partial installation via this way.
Finally i installed TWRP and rooted the device now I can flash by the recovery and it is good:

Just saw that this morning! I'll be trying it out after university today.
Post any comments about it when you try- I'm interested to see how stable this build is.

It's fast and smooth, no bloatware, good memory management, apps dont get killed.
- However, some users reported connectivity issues in China.
- When using non-English language, some apps may FC.
- No 4K recording, No Ultra HD mode on Camera.
I've had a quick tour of it, everything seems good, no problem for me so far
Please read this post in detail to know all the details about viper4arise and the great team behind A.R.I.S.E
Sound Systems™ (Auditory Research in Sound Enhancement™ ).
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/r-s-e-sound-systems-auditory-research-t3379709
I have installed SwanSong and the sound is amazing. SwanSong have an aroma interface during the installation in TWRP and it will be easy for you to install it with all the guides inside the installer. Here are the steps I have done to install it (Thanks to @tywinlannister).
1. Install the BusyBox app and also install BusyBox inside it.
2. Set SELinux to be permissive. (This is important, but you can do it during the installation of SwanSong).
3. Download Arise Sound Systems zip from the link https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=151719
(Click Aroma & look for ARISE+Deuteronomy+X.XX+Modular+AROMA+Installer.zip )
4. Reboot to TWRP and flash the downloaded file. Aroma will start and guide you through the installation process. (There will be many number of modules which will make you confused as to whether it is needed or not. Refer the below recommended setup to get the best experience).
4. Reboot to system.
5. Configure the mods.
6. Reboot again.
This is the recommended setup from the developer itself while flashing SwanSong in Aroma. (Thanks to guitardedhero).
I would recommend Core (mandatory, if not already installed), ViPER4Arise™ 2.5.0.5, Profiles, Arkamys™, ICEsound™, Skip Config and Preset, MusicFX (unless you know it's already installed, this script will leave an existing MusicFX installation intact and end, just in case), permissive (do not, if Enforcing Mode is preferred), Repair SD Card Permissions (allow up to 3-5 minutes of additional time for this script).
Don't flash deep buffer unless you absolutely need to. It's a last resort to get streaming apps to process and should never be flashed as part of your normal installation unless it's been found from flashing previous ARISE version that it's necessary on your device.
Once booted:
Android Settings > Apps > Menu > Show System > Arkamys > Enable Phone Permissions
Android Settings > Apps > Menu > Show System > ViPER4Arise > Enable Storage Permissions
Open ViPER4Arise™ and select Audiophile™ X profile from the Load Effect Profile option in Menu.
On displayed output tab:
Master Power > Off
Master Power > On
Menu > Device Status
Should show Enabled, Normal, and Processing: Yes (at least during audio playback for some scenarios)
If you want to select ViPER4Arise™ through a media player's Equalizer option (not necessary, recommended for users that prefer to get to ViPER4Arise™ through a media player rather than launch the app from Recents or App Drawer):
Android Settings > Apps > Menu > Show System > MusicFX > Disable
Reboot for good measure.
Hope it will help for you. If anything bad happens or you want to uninstall viper, just dirty flash your rom (only wipe cache and dalvik) and everything will be good.
Please note that the selinux mode shall be set to permissive for viper4arise to work. If the selinux mode will not stick to permissive, you may need to disable inbuilt root (if there) and flash latest supersu and then everything will be fine.
There will be a lot of modules during the aroma installation which you can skip (Toolkit, Dolby Plus, Dolby Atmos etc) if it is not mentioned in the recommended setup. Its your choice. Enjoy a crystal clear sound from the great developers.
:good:
NB: I hope I have covered everything that needs to know. Sorry for my bad english and errors if any. I was always a fan of viper4android and been using it for last 3 years and viper always made the music much better to my ears. My only intention is to help others who may be confused with all those modules which will come during the installation of this massive all-in-one package.
Hey! First of all, thank you very much for this great guide. I've followed your instructions, but it seems like I'm experiencing some kind of lag when changing songs. It's like the effects needs to catch up for 1 or 2 seconds after changing songs.. I have done everything mentioned in the guide, and I'm using Spotify, by the way. Any help is appreciated

I think that your problem with lag is caused by an ondemand-governor or a governor, which set the mhz of cores too low for battery-saving features or whatever.
Which rom are you on. Are you using any battery saving tweaks (for viper with super audio quality driver, i think, need 2 cores on with 600mhz the minimum for non-stuttering sound-processing).
Either setting the governor to interactive or manually adjusting the lower CPU speeds may solve your problem.
Perfect!
My long wait to have an audio mod on stock N ends here.. Thanks for the wonderful share.

This is the latest version of viper4android. If any other sound mod is installed (including old viper), it should be removed by dirty flashing your rom and then proceed with this.

Hey again!
I'm running RR 5.8.2 [09/03 update], and no, I'm not using any type of battery-saving tweaks. With Viper4Arise disabled, I still experience the lag. Check the screenshots for the governor setting i set inside the EX Kernel Manager app. Any ideas on how to further troubleshoot/fix this?

Thanks for the screenshots. I have used viper in stock nougat and lineage oms, I haven't faced any kind of lags in these. Maybe it is specific to RR rom.
Or you can check with the viper installation; start fresh and install only core and viper4 arise(skip all other modules) and check if there is any lags. If there is still lag, you will have to switch the rom. If there is no lag, try installing the modules one by one until you find which module is causing the lag and avoid using it.

Okay, so I've done some troubleshooting for the past 30 minutes.. It seems like it is the ICEsound™ that is causing the lag for some reason. Everything else seems to work, and thank you again for your help!
Doesnt work while using play music. Works with YouTube, though.
Noticed the "Processing" is set to No while on play music and to Yes while on YouTube. Help?

Which rom you are on. Try disabling the audiofx or music fx in apps(check show system apps in options ) and reboot. It will work then.

Do you have busybox installed, give root permissions "always" , selinux mode set to permissive. I was on lineage OMS before and viper was working, but I didn't tried google play music. Can you try in any other player and reply back.

Sometimes, Viper stops processing after plugging in earbuds, but it will start processing after a reboot with the earbuds plugged in. Check if this is what happening to you. If still not processing, try to freeze icesound service in system apps. It can also mess up with some roms. There is a minor glitch somewhere, hopefully we will find it.
Thanks Nazim7 for this awesome guide!!
Viper screams on my phone and audio quality is improved drastically....u can feel the thump and bass!!!
Some people reported that processing was : no...I faced the same issue...What I did was plugged in earphones -- restarted phone --- make sure selinux set to permissive before restarting...
Go to viper4arise settimgs and set fx to compatible...then play song ..
