Just got an HTC One M8 not so long ago, I've never dropped it or anything like that but today my phone had an 'x' over the signal bars and no matter what I do (Reset/Power Off/Turn on-off Airplane Mode Toggle/Remove SIM) it still has its radio turned off.
I entered in *#*#4636#*#* to check the phone information and shows that the radio is turned off. When I click the button [Turn on radio] it does absolutely nothing.
The phone is completely stock and it's been only a month since I've had this phone, do you think it is anything I can fix myself? Or should I look for an exchange through warranty.
*** Also if this is any help, before finding out about the radio problem a few hours before I would notice many of my text messages failing to send until I retried to resend. Maybe it was a radio failure?

Yeah, and what happened????
Sorry, but single sentence posts aren't going to cut it, if you want any proper help.
What RUU did you run? What hboot, OS number are you currently on?
Did the RUU install properly (and issue persists), or fail (and if it failed, what error message?).
Do you actually have the exact same conditions as the OP, the AT&T version M8 and fully stock, or another version (if so, what CID)?
If you want help, you need to take the time to provide details; not just "same problem" and "tried it".
What version of Android is it?
Mine was 4.4.x ....updated to 5.0.x without me applying it.
Sent to HTC to be reflashed.
My MOBILE DATA now shows as 'off' beneath it but the button is on and working, this to me shows that even if HTC does the flashing their 5.0.x update is still a BDIFF file update and fails to be 100% working.
Enter setting and go to 'ABOUT' and give all the version numbers (kernel, android, etc) for the best way to get help with it
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app

Hey i hope all is good.
I really need your help. I have a TILT 2 cell phone and by mistake a friend activated the bootloader. Previously the ROM has been updated. the phone got stuck in that screen and the only way to turn it off is removing the battery. so, i try to reboot the phone and it only loads the bootloader with a flash message saying "no image file". ok, i though, the ROM was damaged and after reading a lot in the forums, i followed the instruction to put a new ROM. I connected the phone the the computer and the message in the phone changed to USB and my PC installed the HTC USB Sync driver (but Active Sync does not detect the phone); anyways, i ran the task 29 and a new rom. I was able to see the progress bar in both (PC and Phone) but then the phone reboots and loads again the bootloader. I tried to use the HARD SPL 1.00 as well but it does the same thing after finishing the flash it loads again the bootloader.
can some help me pls?? i'm new in this and the phone is a work tool for me i really need your help.
rgds
You should do the HSPL before flashing a ROM (unless it was already done).
I would try to flash the newest HSPL, then a ROM.
Hi, and thank you for you reply.
I already did it and apparently it flashed the HSPL . Now in the bootloader says SPL 0.85 OliMex; then i flashed the ROM and it showed me the progress bar in both system (PC and phone) but when it finish it booted back to the bootloader. I just noticed that sometimes (after been off for a while) if i turn it on it boots to the rom but it happens randomly and if I turn it back off i just got the bootloader again.
I really need your help pls

Hrm, have you tried doing a task29? Re-flash the ROM after task29.
yes already tried the task 29 and then flash the rom but the same issue...i've been reading a lot of post regarding issue with the bootloader and follow the instruction but nothing seems to work. I even tried the update from the AT&T site but the same issue...i have no idea what else to do

So you've flashed the stock ROM? Have you tried relocking? Probably won't do much, but worth a shot I guess.
When you flash back to stock you flash the stock ROM, then relock, then reflash stock.
Yes, but the issue persisted.
I have noticed something. If i leave the cell phone turn off for a while (hours) and then i turn it on. Most of the time it works and all the things are fin; but as soon as i turn it off and turn it back on the bootloader starts appearing.
So, now i can use the cell but i cannot turn it off or leave the battery died on me...any suggestions?
BTW, thank you very much for your help

My phone is never turned off. I'm not sure what else to suggest, you've tried seemingly every step that could remedy this problem. Radio firmware probably won't help, but it shouldn't hurt either - you could try a new radio...
hi , this happened to me, solved it by reloading the rom again via sd, once it finish maybe you will see the bootloader screen again, so with stylus pres the reset buttom a few times until the rom boot , this can take several times to make it boot. after revive your cell , do a task29 then reload the rom again then do a hard reset, this happened to my 2 times, and its still alive ,good luck.
Same Problem
Hi,
I'm having the same problem. Installed the latest official ROM from HTC/ATT (gorgeous), and same problem after install. Whenever you try to reboot, it gets stuck in the bootloader screen. The last 50 tries it will not reboot at all, even after removing the battery and hitting the power button. This used to work occasionally.
Any other process anyone knows for getting the device to read the ROM?
Is the phone just worn out?
I suggest you reflash the shipped rom to your device and after the flash finishes and your device begins to boot immediately remove the battery to turn it off before it boots. Then replace the battery and press and hold the Send and End keys and while holding them down press the Power button and follow the instructions to factory reset(hard reset).
Hi All,
After doing the HTC OtA software update to version 1.28.401.9, when power -> fast boot is enabled/ticked the phone will not turn back on after power off.
I need to hold down the power button to reset the phone (it appears that the phone does not turn off properly).
My phone was an unbranded direct purchase, but I asked a friend who has the One X on Vodaphone to test this:
1) Update to latest version (via about -> software updates).
2) Check that fast boot is enabled in the power settings.
3) Turn off phone.
4) Turn back on.
His update from Vodaphone was only to version 1.28.161.9, but his phone is exhibiting the same problem - only intermittently (whilst mine is every power cycle). Power On/Off is normal when fast boot is disabled, but the phone will not turn back on (requires long/reset press) when fast boot is enabled.
I should also mention that I have tried a factory reset of the phone, and a reset via the boot-loader - the problem still persists
Update #1:
I have tested this multiple times on my 1.28.401.9 version, and the problem occurs every time.
My friend has tested multiple times on version 1.28.161.9 from Vodaphone and the problem occurs the majority of the time, however occaisionly it does start up normally!
Update #2:
I have just had confirmation from a user in #htc-one-x on Freenode, that their device (ver. 1.28.401.9) also has this problem.
Please could some of you test this, and report your findings here?
Cheers,
Stonish

Hehe, luckily yes Obviously he would have done the update when prompted anyway - but he had disabled fast boot, so he would not have noticed this problem if it was not for me!
Well, I'm also Voda UK and I have the new Voda update and Fast Boot is enabled, but (luckily) no issues here. I hope this helps?

Thanks also! That is strange, it seems from your signature that you are on the same version (1.28.161.9) as my friends Vodaphone that does exhibit this problem now.

Very Strange! I just got my friend to test his 1.28.161.9 version a few more times. The phone turned back on once out of three tests. The two failures required a reset, and gave a error reports.
So it seems to be intermittent on his phone, however on my newer version (1.28.401.9) it seems constant - fast boot never works.
Anyone else out there able to test?
I just updated last night to 1.28.161.9
My phone just turned off and would not turn back on, plugged charger in and no charge light showing, pressed and held power button and all that happened was the 3 soft buttons at the bottom of the screen flashed a few times.
How can I get my phone to boot up?
Vodafone One X std version - not rooted (YET)
This is why I turn off fast boot the second I get an HTC phone

I usually do the same, I only noticed the issue because fast boot is enabled by default after a factory reset.
Even though I don't normally have it enabled, it should at least work properly when it is enabled!

Well for me at least, the phone will actually turn on!
I really don't like the fast boot feature - I assume it is a type of 'suspend to disk', which I have never trusted! Especially over multiple suspend cycles.
You lose the time you gain fast booting when the device has to save its current state before it powers off.
i have 1.28.401.9 and have the same problem.

I have submitted this to HTC, I will let you all know what I recieve back.
I used the 'Contact Us' section of the website, let me know if there is a better way to submit a problem report (I don't seem to be able to find anything).
In the meantime, if anyone else is experiencing this problem please post the software version here

Thanks audiavant, but unfortunately I don't think that is related to this problem.
The phone doesn't appear to get stuck on the splash screen (it just stays black), and will boot normally when the fast booting feature is disabled in the power menu.
I'd rather not unlock the phone just yet, it is purely the stock rom updated via the OtA software update feature at the moment.
I am tempted to try a manual re-flash though!
I received a standard response from HTC. I was quite amused when the first instruction was to unmount and remount the SD card a few times then reboot - There does not seem to be any option to do this on the One X with its internal SD (Please correct me if I am wrong)!
They then suggested a factory reset, which I have already done a few times.
Other than that, they say it may be a software bug and I will have to send them every detail under the sun to file another report.

Well try to use your phone without the fast boot on?
And okay I still do not get the point? Have you asked in the S-OFF thread and they said, that S-OFF will come only for the old hboot and everyone who updated wont get S-OFF?
If that would be the case, there would be many many unhappy ppl.
So you rather will be on a half year old bug filled fw as to update and use your phone properly?
Turn off fast-boot. And then do a reboot. Elimination my friend.

To be rude, you think you have no issues with 1.26 doesn't means that the firmware is stable. And yes, everyone here knew 1.29 is the ways much better than 1.26 with a bunches of fixes and tweaks.
For the s-off progress, as far as I know those developers who are working on it do not stayed tight on 1.26 hboot (correct me if I'm wrong), though some of them has s-off devices. The main barriers on s-off path was not a newer hboot patching holes (there is no big hole found yet) but was the HTC hardworks to barricaded us to have a talk with tegra. On my guess, even there is a solution reveal it will be less likely to be achieve through an old hboot only.
To be honest, you are the only here i had seen that are stayed on 1.26 for s-off..

With bugs like this, it's a process of elimination. Unless it's specifically ruled out (ie, you still suffer the same bug regardless of fast-boot being on or off), then you can only assume that may be.
See what happens if you turn it off. If it works, you know that was causing the issue. If it doesn't, then repeat the process until you eliminate all possibilities. (ie, does it crash after you've transferred files via USB, switched WiFi on/off).
Once all possibilities (within your remit of course) have been exhausted then it's time to send it off, as it's nothing you can solve and it could be a hardware issues (bad memory perhaps??)
Anyway, let's go for the easy fix first, and I keep my fingers crossed that turning off fast-boot helps.

Just look at your software version, then find the RUU in the link from the first page in the sticky thread.
Then borrow a Windows machine and run the RUU with your phone connected.

I'm in the same position. Woke up yesterday, booted phone, black screen after "HTC One" screen. Oddly I could change the volume and the volume changer would display on a black screen. Restarted, same thing. Factory reset, no problems. All the while fast-boot is off.
Same thing happened this morning, cold boot, "HTC One" screen then black screen. Factory reset and immediately rebooted - same thing again! is this a hardware issue or a corrupt software issue?
Will go and join the incredibly long and slow moving at the HTC service centre after work.
---------- Post added at 12:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:50 AM ----------
I've spoken with HTC customer services and they recommend taking the phone in to get it flashed - basically they think that there is a problem with the software. They claim it is a quick job.
They offered to come out to my office and collect my phone and return it tomorrow - I'm impressed with that level of service... pending they can fix it with a simple flash of the firmware!

well, if you didn't drop the phone, maybe there is some dust on the sim contacts... shut it down, pull the sim out and clean with some compressed air both the slot and the sim; plug the sim again and boot the phone... if it doesn't work, maybe it's a failure of phone/sim (discover it by trying the sim into another phone or ask for a sim change) if still doesn't work maybe the phone broke down...

I already mentioned in my post that I've tried to put the sim in my girlfriends phone and it works just fine.
Didn't drop the phone either...
It has to do something with the radio I guess.
It keeps displaying that it is shutting down the airplane mode.
And in the setting, every option that has something to do with my telephone network is grey, I can't select any of the options

Maybe my phone is broken? I have flashed other roms, kernels,radio's...
I restored several backups, even from a year ago...
Should I look for a new phone? ?

so i think it's broken... anyway i hope i'm wrong and someone can help you more than me
As i said.....you need HTC or a repair shop unfortunately. You need to flash parts of the phone that we can't reach, certainly not without s-off and even then writing an imei is still illegal.
My htc m9 upgraded to 6.0 i tried to downgrade with official
5.0 the flashing process went faster than usual
It asked me to reboot and it never came back to live
No charging led nothing and my pc does not even feel it when
I connect it
Please i appreciate any help thx
Not sure if tried or not.... Have you tried simply holding down Power and both volume keys to force a restart? Seems odd that it would brick the phone.
Normally when an RUU sees that your phone has a newer software it would just fail and the phone would be fine. Unless you're S-OFF in which case it would flash it anyways.
We need more details.
1. Did it successfully upgrade to 6.0 and you had no issues prior to trying to downgrade?
2. How did you try flashing it? Was it the RUU wizard on Windows, or the rom.zip via a command prompt/terminal

Can you boot to the bootloader from power off state (POWER+VOLDOWN)? If so, hope is not lost.

I suspect you are hardbricked (why on earth did you downgrade?) but it's possible the flash got confused somehow. Try holding down all three buttons while the phone is plugged in for at least minute. If that does nothing, leave it plugged in overnight and try it again. If it's still dead, you have a brick. Next time, be more careful about flashing random stuff you find via Google.

What type of M9 do you have? Is it a generic GSM model or something else?"
If it's generic, you may have gotten a corrupted download. Did you check the MD5 before flashing?

The exact same file?
Downgrading can be tricky. It doesn't always work exactly right. If your phone is still dead after this, something went wrong with the flash. It can happen.
Sounds like a bad flash. Double check file sizes and md5 hashcheck to be sure the rom was complete.
If the phone won't even show any sign of life you may as well call it dead. If you live in USA you could try the uh-oh policy that htc implemented. They promise to replace the device one time only no questions asked.
