hi all guys, i'm messin' around witih roms and now i'm quite happy with slimkat (actually can't post in the development forum)
trying to find out something like the old touchcontrol/pgm app (official thread locked) in order to switch on screen without pressing power or volume button; there are options in the slimkat rom so you can manage specific app with shaking horizontally or vertically, and i tried to set "home" with shaking, but it won't go: probably it's me, but this could be a very useful feature to me.
so how do you switch on screen on your device starting from black? thanks

Had my Touch Pro2 for about a week now, and I'm loving it (coming from a TyTN II) I've found a ROM I like, set it up the way I want it, and I'm very happy apart from a couple of little niggles. It's so fast and smooth compared to my old phone!! And the screen is gorgeous
Anyway, I've been a member of these fantastic forums for a long time now, and I don't ask many questions, since usually I can find the answers I am looking for (I like figuring things out for myself!) but I have searched and searched for an answer to these questions to no avail.
So, here goes:
1. Is there any way to disable the transparency of the task bar and soft key bar on the start menu? It annoys me having the background show through. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and don't like the fact that it's the ONLY place where it happens, I'd like a consistent experience Why on earth did Microsoft decide to do this? If it's going to be transparent then apply it everywhere! It looks a little weird since the ROM I am using (which is awesome, btw ) has custom task bar icons, and little squares show up around them when the task bar goes transparent. I guess I'm just being picky but if anyone knows a reg tweak or some other way of doing this that would be great!
2. Has anybody found any way to change tracks in WMP without taking the device out of your pocket? On my old phone, when using WMP's Toggle Screen feature, I could feel for and use the DPad in my pocket to change tracks and volume without the device waking up. On the TP2 I can change the volume using the volume keys but changing tracks causes it to wake up and go crazy in my pocket! (I've used advanced keyboard config to assign the windows key and back key to DPad left and right, since I find having both hardware and software buttons in WM6.5.X a little pointless). If I lock the phone, then the volume keys still work, which is very useful, but obviously non of the other keys do so no track changing.
I know there is a program that allows you to use the voice command button on the HTC headphones to change tracks on the HTC music tab, but I have to use custom headphones because my ears are a funny shape and normal headphones don't stay in xD Also I don't like the music tab, it seems slow and doesn't show all the album art properly. I actually like WMP, it's always worked fine for me, don't know why everyone hates it so much BTW I've disabled the standard 6.5 lockscreen and am just using the soft key unlock like in 6.1
Sorry for the epic long post and thanks in advance!
Recently moved away from IOS JailBreak to Android, and can't say im used to the new FileSystem! I am trying to map keys specifically while the lockscreen is active. Most of my searches are littered w/ the global keylayout method. I noticed how the camera app remaps vol and pwr hard buttons (to zooming and controls lock respectively), while lockscreen nulls the 4 touch keys but keeps the global hard buttons, except camera. IOS JB had "activator". It is able to set button and gesture actions for the lock screen, home screen, while an app was active, and global (across the other 3). I dont need the full "activator", just wish to do lockscreen specific remappings to better utilize unused keys that otherwise have a good function. Anyone know a good FS mod shortcut or does the lockscreen.apk it's self need to be altered to achive this?
You can simply pull the key mapping file off the phone itself and edit it in notepad, save it, and send it back on. You need root though, I believe. Follow this guide and mix it up yourself! There are many tutorials on how to do this, if this certain one isn't too helpful. This one specifically is for the G1 but the steps should be very similar.

Post #4 of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046761. Epic specific button mapping file.
Thanks, but those are, what I refer to as, the global keylayout, because it affects the phone's lockscreen, homescreen, and where ever else applicable. For Example, I am trying to mod the lockscreen camera buttons to control music, but it goes back to the camera buttons @ homescreen. I would also like to set the 4 touch buttons that are normally blocked on the lockscreen to do Media stuff as well. The keylayout overtakes too much. I'm lookin a bit more into the filesystem to day, might look into the AOSP work for better insight. Still open to any suggestions on where 2 look.
Hi, i didn't want to make trash of development section so I came here to ask or suggest of making mod that will allow us to use 100% of the screen without any on screen buttons visible.
I know that there is a mod that is doing same thing, but it's uncomfortable to use. (You press on the screen corner and then on screen buttons magically appear)
So here's my suggestion how could it work.
You will have to put your finger under the screen on the left, right or center depending on which action you want to launch. Then swype your finger up and release it.
For example I want to go back from settings so I press back button:
I put finger on the bottom left of the phone and then swype it up to the screen and release it.
If any developer could make that kind of gesture readable by phone, and attach it to a proper action would be great
Sorry for my "not best English" I tried how I could to present my idea most clearly.
And please don't say that screen is big enough so this kind of mod is unnecessary..
Edit: See attached image below

This actually has been suggested before and I thought it was a really good idea, but the majority of the community ripped the OP of the other thread a new one and told him to just use button savior or LMT launcher or something. It was pretty messed up. Hopefully we can actually get that sooner or later!
I completely agree. I use LMT, but it seems like it would be more convenient the way you suggested. Also less accidental presses if you swiped from the bottom.

I thought of extending lmt to support also that feature. But I would more see completely configurable touch/swipe areas. They could be placed on the left, right and also at the bottom. What do you think?

Have a look at GMD gesture control. It does exactly what you want
I also did that for myself.
App Thread: google "gmd gesturce control xda" (I cannot post any links)
Thank you for comments
I've attached image showing my idea (go to first post), so everything is clear now. I'm sure you can't do this with LMT.

I've just installed lite version of GMD gesture tool and it seems to work
Unfortunately, to use custom gestures I will have to buy full/paid version but it's worth it's money!!
Yeah its really worth the money
I tried your way of gestures and it works a hundred precent
i like the idea
now i use button savior (not good as your idea)

It's very accurate. Even if someone is having problems, try to recalibrate borders, changing border detection area and gesture size
I found this apk very useful on my Motorola Defy to activate recent apps by swyping from the top of the screen
Looking for 5x5 TW launcher for S3 /4.3 /MK6
& a LED flashlight mod usable when the screen is off
If anyone is aware of a working 5x5 launcher for 4.3 /MK6 I'd really appreciate hearing about it.
I've grown used to having a 5x5 home screen launcher.. then had to replace my S3 phone (4.1.2). Which means that I'm now stuck with Android 4.3 where a lot of my mods no longer work and the OS can't be reverted to an earlier version. I've tried a dozen 5x5 and 5x6 launchers, including some labeled as 4.3/MK, but they cause the dreaded "unfortunately process x has stopped" messages or boot loops on my S3.
And I'm also trying to find a flashlight /LED /torch app that can be used when the screen is off. One where the LED can be turned on by a long press of the home button or ideally the home button + volume key. I did find a shake to turn on the LED in the play store. But shaking a phone seems odd to me and I'd worry about the LED accidentally turning on too. I've tried some long press volume key mods that either don't work at all or freeze and require a reboot to turn the LED off. A long volume press mod would interfere with music player track skip too.
I just finished installing several ROMs that claim this feature only to find that the listed LED feature hasn't been implemented yet and that minor detail wasn't noted on the list of ROM features. Okay. Maybe there is a button remapper app that I could use in conjunction with the shake the phone mod? I've just started searching to see if there are any remapping mods that might do this.
Great forum and I really appreciate the work that enthusiasts do here.
And thank you in advance if anyone knows where I might find either mod.

Hello everyone!
I just purchased the Galaxy S3 as an upgrade from the Galaxy S2 (d2tmo and hercules respectively). Over at the S2 XDA forums, our sweep2wake consisted of swiping across all the capacitive buttons on the device (since, as you know, it did not have hard buttons for menu, home, back, and search).
However, from what I've researched on this forum for the S3, it seems that YOUR sweep2wake is swiping a finger across the screen, or what the S2'ers called swipe2wake.
I know a couple devs, but unfortunately am not one. I do know that only certain devices are capable of waking by capacitive buttons due to keyboard drivers. My question is, does the S3 qualify? I'd love to wake it by touching the menu and back button. I've broken a plenty phones simply by wearing out their buttons, and I find sweep2wake an elegant solution.
However, I don't have the technical skill to port something like this to a kernel just yet. I hope someone can help me clarify this issue.

If you're rooted & running custom ROM, kit kat or lollipop, then flash Neocore kernel & use trickster mod to set sweep to wake & double tap to wake! Both have to be activated at the same time for it to work!
I'm not sure if you read my post, but it specifically ruled out screen-based waking solutions.
I was talking about capacitive button based wake (tap menu, tap back, screen on).
