[Q] G Pad and Google Chromecast - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone.
First off I apologize if this question was already answered somewhere in the forum, but I did a search and was not able to find an answer to my question. Let me say that I am more than happy with this tablet (I had very bad experience with some old Asus tablets) and this is very good thus far. The only real concern that I have is when you use it in combination with the Google Chromecast. I used it with 2 applications so far, one is Plex and the other one is Deezer and I noticed a very similar behavior: in both cases the applications got closed. Even if they create a background service through the notification in the status bar. Could it be something related to the G Pad itself or could it be something related to the Wifi connection / Chromecast behavior?
Thanks everyone for the help

I just hopped on here to ask a question about Chromecast and my G Pad... Unrelated to your questions. However, I can say i've used Plex extensively and haven't had any issues. Sometimes youtube will do weird things tho.
My question relates to the recent update to chromecast that allows screen mirroring... i've updated my chromecast and my g pad to match the latest firmware and version.
still no setting my chromecast app that says "share screen"
it's there on my nexus 7 2014 tho.
what gives.

Hi there. Sorry if it's a bit obvious answer but not all Android devices are supported for screen mirroring (unless rooted). As per the Chromecast website, only the following devices are officially supported:
Nexus 4 Nexus 5 Nexus 7 (2013) Nexus 10 Samsung Galaxy S4 Samsung Galaxy S5 Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Samsung Galaxy Note 10 (2014) HTC One M7 LG G Pro2 LG G2 and LG G3 running KitKat MR1 or higher.

[Q] Roku streaming from Android Smartphone

Roku has recently updated and app for Android to include local streaming of video files. I, however cannot utilize it because my Galaxy Nexus is not supported. I do not know why it's not supported.
As of this date of writing, per the Google Play website the app supports:
Samsung Galaxy SIII
Samsung Galaxy S4
Nexus 4
HTC One, and
Nexus 7 (2012 model)
I would like to know if there is a way for a rooted Galaxy Nexus to benefit from the app update. I was thinking about build.prop, but I don't want to have to change it back when I'm done using the app.
Thoughts?
Friendly bump.
you would need someone to pull it down in apk form and give it to you, which it might not work.
OR
ask whoever wrote the app to update for the GN
But the likelihood that the app is written specifically for each device would be low, versus the app poling the device to see what it is, and then given the additional features, right?

Shows compatible for my toroplus (in google play). Still showing for you as incompatible? I wouldn't mind sending you the .apk if you want to try it? Are you using a custom dpi for your ROM? I noticed that if I picked anything but 240 or the standard 320 for my gnex, many apps in google play would show up as incompatible.

Note 8 to LG Smart TV, what are my options?

I'm currently running rooted stock Jelly Bean 4.1(with plans to flash official Kitkat) and I'm looking into getting a smart TV most likely an LG. The model I'm considering has the following inbuilt 'smart' share options:
Google DIAL
MIRACAST Screen Share
MHL Screen Share
WiDi
The TV has these connectivity options:
WiFi Ready(wifi not built in, needs adapter)
WiFi Direct
Simplink
I know DIAL is a new thing without much traction right now, WiDi is exclusive to Intel devices. I'm particularly keen on wireless screen mirroring to the TV, so my questions are:
-Can I connect seamlessly via Miracast with my Note 8?
-Which currently available android version on our device works best for screen mirroring(4.1, 4.2 or 4.4)?
-Is Allshare any specific app necessary to mirror my screen or is it natively supported by the ROM?
-Will it be beneficial to buy a chromecast? Will it work with the Note 8?
I've scoured through the Note 8 forums and screen mirroring isn't mentioned a whioe lot and often just in passing. There are many posts concerning allshare not working with rooted stock ROMs, but many of these are old posts from last year. There's hardly mention of screen mirroring on Kitkat. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Not sure about LG being 100% compatible... I have a 2009 Samsung with DNLA and AnyLink+
The AnyLink+ connects any Samsung device with automatic turn on and input change. Plus it will turn off the TV if the device should turn off.
From what I see the LG should do what you need as AnyNet+ is really not a requirement.

Thanks, so how is Miracast implemented currently in the stock ROM? I'm on JB 4.1, all I have is allshare. Is Miracast available as a separate feature in 4.2 upwards?

Miracast is the feature called Screen Mirroring on the quick action bar.
As for Samsung Link / All Share, there are some latency issues but with Chinese Miracast/DLNA dongles some provide very fast response to limit latency.
All Share is the same thing as Link... both use Samsung's Miracast... depending on your Samsung updates, you should have an All Share firmware update installed to the tablet. Once you connect with the All Share device the firmware is automatically updated.

I think I have to come clean on something, I'm still on JB 4.1.2, and all I HAD was allshare, I deleted/debloated it after rooting. So I don't have the app anymore but I want to know if the more recent stock ROMs have a Miracast function separate from Allshare that can connect the tablet to a miracast enabled TV.

[Q] Screen Mirroring?

guys just wondering, what's the best Dongle for screen mirroring for LG G3?
I had the Samsung All Share Cast before on my note 3, but it wont work with LG G3.
Basically I just wanna be able to play videos from my LG G3 on the TV and Youtube.
Would Chromecast work? or Roku is better?
I have chromecast and miracast works like a charm from day 1 when I got my phone. It is official supported for G3. Also other cool apps like netflix, youtube, chrome, play music all access, etc. work with it.
Chromecast works with any android 5.0 for 4.4 and before you can try an app called Mirror-enabler (search for it here in xda) I have 2 unofficial supported devices working with it (galaxy s3 mini and xiaomi mi2s).

Thanks for your input.
Im deciding between Chromecast or AmazonFire Sticky or the EzCast by Measy
I'd recommend Chromecast, you can not only 'cast' from apps like youtube, netflix, etc, but you can also Cast your whole screen (Actual screen mirroring) for games and whatever else. Not sure if amazon, etc do that.

oh cool...
is there a lag or delay in the casting?
I know this is old but miracast now works for the Roku 3, which blows the chromecast out of the water.
Hey guys.
Did not want to create a new thread, so I'm resurrecting this one.
I'm a g3 user with an smart TV. I do have a generic slim port adapte which works fine.
What I'm wondering is, I'm still not sure which is the best way to play videos on. TV. I couldn't notice the difference between them.
Slimport
Miracast direct wifi
Phone connected to TV over USB and the smart TV plays the video.
What are the pros and cons of these 3 methods do you think?
Thanks in advance!

cast screen and screen mirroring on a samsung tv

Hi guys
I know there are threat about this matter but none of them have any solution . As you know Samsung phones have smart view which can screen mirror and control your smart TV.
Nexus 5x doesn't recognize Mira cast devices and with changing build.prop althogh it can recognize the TV but unable to connect to it. Do you guys have any idea to solve this problem?
I'm sure there is a software way. Because there shouldn't be a hardware problem with Nexus 5x .
Did any one connect a Nexus 5x to Samsung TV?
I think it depends on the year of the Samsung TV. My 4K is a 2014 model and doesn't do screen cast or mirroring yet my in-laws is 2016 and I believe does work.

Mine is a 2016 model and can't connect to it. There should be a way for this problem . Is there any way to port samsung smart view app on Nexus 5x?
Any idea?
Miracast was removed with (I think) 6.0. It's a proprietary API.
There's a few people on the 6p forums trying to get it to work, with little success.
You can change the following in the build.prop to get the Samsung device to show up on the list, the phone connects, but it doesn't cast.
persist.debug.wfd.enable=1
You also need to set Allow WiFi in the cast options.
BTW, the Smart View app is just a remote control app. It should work just fine, as long as your phone and TV are connected to the same network.
Edit: really should have read the op before replying, I basically said the same thing as you!

Hmm. Will have to give it a try next time I'm over there. Although, I could've possibly connected via Chromecast and got mixed up.

Tanx for your replay any way. I think there is a way to bypass this limitation but we don't know it yet...

Yes it works in chrome cast but chrome cast need a router and that slow down the streaming . The benefit from the screen mirroring is that your phone connect directly to your smart tv so you have a smooth and fast experience on it .a 3rd party device like chrome cast is not a good alternative for screen mirroring.

I wasn't saying Chromecast is a great alternative. I was just saying I might've not been directly connected to the TV like I originally thought. While we're on it though, Chromecast does get the job done for the most part though if your router is close and fast.

In build prop try adding wlan.wfd.hdcp=disable.

Question P6P Cast to LG TV?

Hi there,
I cant find the perfect solution on the web.
What is the best way/app to cast my phone-screen (game) to my LG C7 TV?
It seems (and ive read) Pixel cant work with Miracast cause of Google's greedyness.
Hope some one can give me a good sollution.
Thanks!
I've used an app called Screen share for LG: smart screen mirroring. It has been awhile since I have used it though. When I did use it I mainly cast videos, pictures etc. Its not perfect but it does work. I have since bought a Nvidia Shield that supports chromecast.
LGs own ThinQ app.
