Hi guys
I'm now running LG 4X HD. It has so much dev support and like p880's devs very much. But battery life, heat from Tegra and bugs and lags in AOSP roms are making me tired. All bugs are introduced because of the fact that p880 stopped at 4.1.2 android and sources provided by LG along with it. But devs made 4.4.4 happren anyway
I can exchange my p880 for LG optimus G without paying for it. Question is: is it worth it ?
I would like to know what do you think of dev support of OG:
-Are there good kernel available ?
-Are there bug free 4.4 ROMs ? (p880 have CM, PA, SlimKat, Nameless, OMNI and many others )
-Are the sources of LG 4.4 android available ?
Thank you for answers, I must make the decision, to jump or to stay
EDIT : **** ! I thought I was in Q&A section sorry ! If mod would move this thread I would be happy
DO IT!

I had an Optimus 4X HD 2 months ago, and I was tired and frustrated by this phone, the battery life is terrible, the performance should be more for what it says on paper, the only thing I loved about this phone was the flash
One month I have the Optimus G, coming from 4X HD, and it was the best decision I could make this phone FLIES is very buttery, the battery life is decent, what does a real smartphone and from like 2 weeks ago I was upgraded to KITKAT by LG, is the best phone I've ever had, excellent gaming performance, the only flaw I see so is the camera.
DO IT NOW, you will not regret
Sorry for my english, Google translate.
Thank for info !
But what with the ROMs ?
This shouldn't even be the question. OG is superb phone even today (of course despite camera but 4X has even worse ) and 4X was outdated when it came out.
Damn, I've just read that the phone is so cheap because it is f180 version...
Anyway I can flash custom roms made for e975 ? I know I can convert , but does this mean that I will be able to run e975 ROMs ?
from some points of view G is even prefereable over G2. let alone 4xhd. Do not hesitate a second. and yeah, dev support is better than any other G serie phones.

Yes!, The F180 is the same E975, just having a different modem, but you can convert it to a 975 with no problems, but I tell you now, make a backup of the EFS folder, to avoid problems with the imei, I I can help you with everything you need!, no problem
About the ROMS, Omni, Carbon, Lego ROM (it is very good), among others that are also quite good, however, I liked more the rom stock, it is very fast, smooth and stable as any, and the life of the battery is amazing, hope I've helped

So no real difference beetwen F180 and E975 ? Just flash ROM and F180 baseband after it ? Are there any problems after conversion ? One thing that puts me off about LG stock is the looks of it, so that's why I wanted to know about custom ROMs, if they're stable and smooth.
I also do not care for radio ,Thanks for all the help !
I used to have an LG optimus 4x HD 1 month ago, and change it for an optimus g, and the difference is brutal, the only flat point on this optimus g, is that camera haven't flash aided focus, so low light photos are terrible blurred

If the optimus g is in good condition i say do it. Just know that the roms on the optimus g are no better tho, our roms are not buggy but devs always abandon the projects and leave us with one or two major bugs, aside from cyanogenmod tho most 4.4 roms are pretty stable, then again also a lot of devs always overclock gpu and cpu and disable thermal throttling -_- which is completely unmecesary on this device seriously, that wont compensate for the lag on the rom, but im just bwing butthurt. I say do it, better specs and shares a lot with the Nexus 4.

The baseband is the only difference, for the rest, the optimus G has the best utility which can have any LG, called Freegee (need root), with this application you can make backup of EFS, unlock bootloader, restore EFS, install CWM , EVERYTHING!.
It can be rooted with Towelroot or framaroot, is very easy, if you are installing a new rom, and you have no signal, restores EFS and go!
else you have not mentioned is that there are several models of Optimus G, and each model has different roms, you need to read the guides and tutorials, roms to understand that to serve models.

I mean does the roms have reboots, freezes ? What kinda bugs ? Thought CM would be most stable, how is liquid smooth you are running ?
Official CM, thought it would be rock solid :/

1 - Root with towelroot or framaroot
2 - install Freegee from the play store
3 - Backup EFS
4 - Unlock Bootloader (Mako method)
5 - go to recovery with volume up + power, then move the options with the volume keys and select "Recovery mode" then press power
6 - Install your favorite rom, then the baseband, and enjoy
If you do not run into signal restores EFS with freegee and that's it

Hahaha Nah in my opinion CM sucks, **** always has bugs here and there in every release, reboots and battery drain. Irecommend unofficial omni rom, its the only bugless rom ive tried other than stock, theres a lot to try from tho, most of the bugs our roms have are minor so dont worry, also you can jist use stock kitkat, stable, battery life is amazing and it is pretty fast.

I 100% agree with this. Moved on to official KK Sling on my optimus G when my phone locked up for about 2 hours and when I tried to turn it on again, its screen kept ghosting for 2 or 3 hours I dunno.... I had to keep it turned off in my Fridge and luckily the screen was cleared off again.. Not moving on to any rom containing Custom/CM kernel ever. Damn that almost threw me off the edge about owning an LG phone right there but trouble was the rom.
I'd say Prefer Optimus G over anything (except if the hardware is more recent and powerful and u got wallet for that). Especially, with latest official KK release from LG and its mods, battery life is rock solid and phone doesnt burn your hands.

Okay it seems I will not have to sell my p880
I can buy "damaged" f180 (someone bricked it , it stays at download mode) for around 30 $ I'll just reflash it and use it for some time , try different ROMs and decide whether to stay on p880 If it boots into download mode there's no reason not to be able to unbrick it, yes ?

If it boots into DL mode, you have a VERY good chance of restoring it to stock; basically, it's not bricked. For 30 bucks, what do you have to lose, anyway? Lucky bastard! I always buy my phones cheap, but this is as good as free...
Flashing an AOSP ROM might mess up your recovery
Check out the link from the Nexus 5 forums
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2930512
Warning about Lollipop AOSP ROMs. - broken recovery
It doesn't make your phone unusable. You can easily reflash a recovery thru ADB. So idk how this is a big deal?
Nobody said it was a big deal, just a heads up.
Not flashing 5.0 AOSP ROMs on the G3 can be consider sinful. !
but thanks for the heads up tho !
You guys speak as if there are already AOSP 5.0 ROMS for the g3.. Did I miss something?
Pretty sure this is nothing new with 5.0. Other devices have employed similar methods for awhile now.
Never mind, I see now. The concern is this functionality included in the AOSP base code. Got it.

This...are there AOSP roms for the TMobile LG G3 that I'm not aware of. I'd be running it right now if its stable and you know, in existence.
There are some people who have AOSP versions, as all as cm12 versions for the d851 running, however they aren't daily drivers. To my knowledge though, nothing has been posted to download and test out.

Does that mean... If im switching from say LiquidSmooth on my D851 lg g3 to a lollipop ROM do i need to follow the regular process of..... Going into twrp, doing full wipe, flashing lollipop zip, (flash supersu???), and reboot.
Or does something else need to be done when switching?
I've tried 3 different lollipop roms and even restored backups without any issues. Just make sure to delete old backups if you update Twrp for any reason.
I just go the LG G3 and I unlocked and rooted it. Now I'm looking for a custom rom. I see there are quite a few 5.0 roms but since there is no official source, all these ROMS are pure Android and I am looking for one which has LG customization (as I really like them). I would like to know what's currently the "best" (and stable rom) for D851?

What's been most stable for me and what I consider the "best" has been SkyDragon Rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57862770&postcount=973
Along with the Dev's custom kernel too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/orig-development/kernel-skydragon-v0-0-3-t2847017

None of the stock KK Roms have been updated in awhile. I think Devs are waiting on LP to be released. Once you flash it, you'll see that there's not too much to update anyways. No reason to update Roms if there's nothing new to add.

Yep, I've actually ran both. IMO, Skydragon Rom just runs a little smoother and also with the SR Remix Rom, I was having all sorts of issues with being able to edit/delete files using any kind of File Explorer app. You'll notice in the thread for that Rom, that a lot of people were having that issue. With Skydragon Rom, I don't have that issue at all so that's also a main reason that I'm on Skydragon.
They're both pretty comparable though so pretty much just personal preference. I also like the fact that the Dev for Skydragon builds his own kernels too.

Thanks for the info. I will check out the Skydragon ROM.
Installed SkyDragon earlier today and so far everything seems to be working great. Though I wouldn't have mind at least some customization because after the first boot for few minutes I was confused if the rom was actually installed it not.

Hello!
I just bought a G3 D855 (arrives next week), and I don't know where to start. Should I start out with the stock experience? Should I go straight into the AOSP arena? I'd love some insight where possible. Coming from Samsung and Touchwiz I wonder if the LG skin is as annoying?
If someone could recommend a stock rom to start with that would be awesome or offer any insights I would really appreciate the help! - Looking around the CloudyG3 V2.5 looks promising -
I don't yet know what rom will be on the device - I believe it will be 4.4.2. Should I do an OTA update to Lollipop or what would be ideal? Just root and flash?
Finally which method to root? The one click method by avicohh? Is there another I should try?
Apologies for all the noob questions - just want to do right by my new hardware!
Thanks in advance for any insights!

If you want a best camera quality with ois working then stock based rom is best for you.If you love simplicity & ready to give up LG features then use CM or AOSP based roms. Its your personal preference.LG G3 camera hasn't been ported to cm or aosp based roms yet..Its your personal preference. You can use cloudy rom if you want g4 touch with slight modifications over stock lollipop. On the other side there are many LG UI themes are available in store. Those are pretty cool. You can try it out.
If you want to root then use this software as this is the easiest way..

Wrong Section
Also a self help thread should not be created in the development forum since this section is dedicated to discussion most closely pertaining to roms and development in general and so a mod can help you out here.
And while we're at it, you might need give the roms a try before finding what exactly is best for you. CM or stock both work equally well. In general view I prefer stock since it's better at times in terms of stability and other software features. CM has been a hit and miss for me. Previously used to own a Note 3 till it got jacked out of my pocket. Worked pretty well on that but I prefer stock on this.
Generally speaking the phone's a good combination of power and aesthetics. You won't regret your stay here since there's so much to do especially since the bump root. Have at it and feel free to ask any questions.

I think u should root from base 4.4, backup IMEI, install a recovery and flash Cloudy ROM. Sory my english is very bad.
So im done with stock kitkat lg g3 rom, i refused to update to official lollipop.
So ive been using stock rom for almost a year, and its getting really slow as time goes by, as expected. So i decided im gonna try a fresh new rom to flash.
Which one of you prefer, so fsr ive heard the best is
1. Cloudy
2. Fulmics
Which one is better to flash?
Im not gonna buy a new phone anytime soon cause i think lg g3 is still a beast with good specs even for 2016.
So which one should i flash and why?
Pls list advantage or disadvantage of each rom you prefer me to flash that would be great!
I say CloudyG3 (because of LG G4 UX) with Xceed kernel
Fulmics has more features, but personally I don't like old G3 UX as much as newer G4 UX
My advice: Try both and make your own decision

Totally agree, I had both and stayed with Cloudy because of G4 UX and apps.
Tried CM12.1, Cloudy 2.5 and Fulmics.
They are all really great with their own pros/cons. For me at least, the biggest let down for CM12.1 was camera functionality. CM just did not play nice at all.
Fulmics was nice, but the G4 theme port from Cloudy is money. Been on it for the past several days and usually feel the need to swap ROMs. Not with this one. Its a nice bump from stock G3 (d850).

Whats the advantage on using xceed kernel on cloudy?
Better battery life and performance?
Or i should just be fine with stock kernel with cloudy?
So i guess cloudy is the winner here. I like the g4 ux too.
But i heard some has gps problems on cloudy. If i do encounter it after i flashed cloudy, is there a way to fix it?

It is smoother and has more features than default Cloudy kernel. Can't say much about battery life, but it could be better too.
P.S. Install Synapse to control most of kernel setting.

Nougat-based development is still in its early stages. While the G3 device tree is already rather stable, there are still lots of issues with apps.

As far as I know, there's no cleanrom for G3. Best shot will likely be CM14.1 these days. At least, they've got a pretty good device maintainer and everyone else is borrowing the device tree from there.

If you are unhappy with your current ROM, you may as well give it a try. At least, nougat on G3 is fast, and the remaining bugs are not bad enough to make it unusable.
If you need something completely stable, you will likely have to wait a few more months.
what about situation now? any news? stable roms 7.1?
