So I installed the latest update for my T520 10.1 (which just added the kids mode) and now my tablet does random reboots all the time. Probably at least once an hour. I am running stock rom with root. I did have the cybertronic kernel installed and thought maybe it was causing the reboots. So I Odin'd back to stock, and am still having reboots. Anyone else experiencing this? (I did clear cache and factory reset)
hi,
I have exactly the same problem after the updates T520XXUANF4 (with last CF-Auto-Root)
Ditto after a factory reset ...

I think reboots are kernel security related as my note pro 12.2 was rebooting several times a day after root and removing Knox, now I'm re rooted with Knox and no reboots in over 24 hours.

So I had frozen all the knox files with titanium backup. I went in and unfroze them a couple hours ago. No reboots since. Crossing my fingers that it works.
edit: still lots of reboots, so I chose to go with a custom rom.

Same here on the reboots! My device is no longer rooted after the previous update, which worked great. Only MagazineWidget, WatchOn and Screen Saver are turned off. Since I wasn't planning to root again I can't use Titanium Backup, but I'm assuming that whatever I froze there would show up in Application Manager in the "Turned Off' tab? The Knox application still shows the "download" icon b/c I never installed it.
I checked the Sammobile site, but it looks like it doesn't show U.S. firmware. Anyone know how I can get back to the previous update?
i am running stock which is not my normal staus but have never had a reboot on latest update or previous versions. just wanted to throw that out there.
have reload T520XXUANF4 and it's ok if you answered no to supersu when he wants to disable knox
no reboot after 24 hour

ps ; who speaks better English than me to explain the problem to Chainfire?

From my reading, I think you can use the firmware for Cellular South on sammobile. Or you can use the one from this link and follow his directions. The firmware is for France, but gives you the option for English language. I have used it several times myself.

Also having random reboots after latest update. I was able to root using the same Chainfire file as I did with the previous firmware.

So after using a custom rom for a few days, I really wanted to go back to the stock rooted rom. Here is my procedure. Maybe some of the steps were unnecessary, but in the end it worked. No more reboots!
I first went into twrp and wiped cache and dalvik cache. Then I did a factory reset. Then used Odin to load the stock rom. Went into stock recovery and did another factory reset. Then went thru the process of installing the updates. After the updates I rooted then did another factory reset and cleared cache. I had a random reboot shortly after that when I was restoring everything on the tablet. . But that was over 7 hours ago. No more reboots!
Factory reset and staying on stock worked for me. No random reboots since I did this yesterday.

Thought I'd contribute with having the same issue - TabPro 8.4 here (T320).
Stock NG2 ROM, but I was having reboots from NF2 as well.
I'll do a factory reset and try again, see if it helps.

I tried all that were available. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses. I finally went back to rooted stock because I had a few apps that wouldn't work with the custom roms. Look a few posts earlier about doing the factory resets.
Solution Found
I updated my T520 from NAE to NG1 using Odin and rerooted it with CF method and I was experiencing random reboots. I did tow things:
1. I defrosted the knox notifications in TB (I had disabaled it when super user asked me to...)
2. I went to SuperSU app's settings under cleanup I tapped reinstall and followed the given commands there...
I have not had any reboots since 2 days ago. :fingers-crossed:
I just wanted to share this with those that are having random reboots. Give it a try... hopefully It will work
I flashed scrosler's stockish ROM and also haven't had any reboots in two days according to bootlog uptime. Woot!
As already mentioned, "defrosting" Knox with TB und skiping Chainfires SuperSu notification worked for me on CFrooted stock ROM. No reboots anymore

This appears to have solved my rebooting problem, too.
Another Solution
My T320 was rooted only once with TowelRoot and I disabled Knox when I was prompted and never tripped it. The soft reboots started happening and I searched all over for a solution but cannot remember where I had found talk of it. I haven't had any problems ever since I did it in the middle of July. I installed Xposed Installer and then installed the Samsung Kitkat SystemServer Crash Fix module which apparently was developed for the S4.

Hey the Problem is the following:
3-5 random reboots every day
restarts during every phonecall after 1-3 Minutes
freezes when in standby, cant turn back on -> need to take battery out
often slow, especially when switching apps. or when typing
I have tried stock 4.3, CM10.2 recently and before that CM10.1 for a while.
I already send it in but they only said my battery is broken.
Is it possible that all my problems come from this?
I rather think my flash memory is broken? What you think?

Since yesterday I am facing the same problems you are describing. At first I thought it was a bad flash or something like that. Clean installed various 4.3 costum roms and it's always the same.
Right now I will look deeper into it since the phone is unusable in that condition.
If I find a solution I will comment.
Best regards
Edit: Okay, works again flawlessly. I simply flashed an nightly from carbon-rom and the lags were gone. Hope it helps. What exactly caused the lag I don't know. For now I am staying on 4.2.2 Carbon as it is my favourite rom anyway and I will wait till there are stable 4.3 from carbon.
Are you sure it's the phone and not an app?

Not pretty sure, but it still occured after countless factory resets, wipe cache, wipe dalvic cache and wipe system via TWRP.
Have you tried a clean install without installing apps to see if you get a reboot to eliminate an app as a possible cause?

Yes I did. I only flashed for example newest PA and their PA Gapps.
So far I resolved it by "downgrading" to a 4.2.2 nightly from carbon. The lags are completly gone. I will stay and wait till carbon has stable 4.3.
why dont people try stock when they are having problems? going from 1 custom rom to the next does not prove it is the phone.
please fastboot flash the stock rom and do not restore any apps/data other than say your google acct

Already did that.
I am having the same/similar problems with my GNex too. Specifically bullets [1-3] from the original post. I am running unmodified yakjuux and have tried with just my google account with no other apps and the same problem exists.
Mine makes a noticeable "click" sound with a vibration followed by a reboot.
It usually happens during calls and after it boots the phone call log shows no record of the incoming/outgoing call that just happened. Its like a blue screen of death for android!
I have sent the phone back to Samsung's warranty service 4 separate times and each time they reported no trouble found in the completion report. They just factory reset or put an older version of jelly bean back on the phone and send it back to me with some notes of PRL updates and other nonsense to make it seem like they did something to fix it.
Does anyone have any suggestions (logs, adb, etc) how I can help prove to Samsung/service absolute that the phone is a lemon (other than trying to video tape the phone hoping it reboots - because that is the last resort)?
I already escalated to executive customer service and they refused an exchange because the completion reports show no trouble found :crying:
Thx!
well... I also have this problem.
First happened when I flash Cm10.2 nightly (don't remember which one).
Then I flash PA, or whatever... Looks like the random reboot relating to notifications? It's usually happened when whatsapp notification coming in, but not always.
But a few weeks ago I flashed stock ROM rooted (via TWRP, not fastboot).
The problems solved. No random reboots anymore. Then today I tried latest CM10.2, and it happened again... Wonder why... Looks like it's a very rare problems.
Interesting to see someone having the same problem...
Now I want to flash stock ROM via fastboot to check if it'll fix.
Btw, I can flash directly to CM 10.2 from 10.1, can't I? Or I should flash 4.3 via fastboot first?

I believe CM offers an upgrade option somewhere in the system settings. Unless you want to wipe your phone and flash directly to 10.2 in which case I do not think you need to flash stock 4.3 first. Maybe just do a reset within 10.1 before you flash CM10.2 via whatever recovery (clockwork etc) you are using but even that may be unnecessary.
My 1 year warranty expires this month so if I can't manage to get something out of Samsung I am going to play around with flashing stock 4.3 as you suggested. I have tried converting yakjuux to yakju in the past but still saw the problem then which made me revert back to yakjuux so I could send the phone back for service).
i started getting this message 3 weeks ago. it just started out of nowhere. whenever i started my phone i got all my apps force closing. now it seems to be happening to me every time i restart or turn off my phone. i did have a nandroid backup from 1 month ago but it also gets the force closing error after it restarts.
i have tried fixing permissions from CMW but this dows nothing. i tried a few other apps to try fix them (appextract, rom manager) but non of these helped.
i have a samsung galaxy ace 2 (XXLD8) on three IE network. its running android 2.3.6. rooted with CMW.
the only other option i have left would be to flash the firmware back onto the device but would anyone have an option that i could try before i do that?
thanks

Did you flash stock rom through odin
If you flash stock rom(odin) without wipe data, cahe and dalvik, force closes will occur.

Ok I am REALLY frustrated. Yesterday my note was working fine and I shut it off like normal. Then the next day, when I went to turn it on, it kept saying the samsung logo over and over again. It then goes to the lockscreen and immediatly boots back to the sammy screen. Another weird thing is that it takes FOREVER to boot to the lockscreen before rebooting again. If i pull the pen out or touch the screen during that time, it vibrates like it should be on the lockscreen.Sometimes, the samsung logo will flicker and rotate sideways for a half a second and go back. Ive tried restoring my backups but it didnt fix it. Sometimes, it wont reboot and will work so idk what the problem is. I didn't do anything that would make it bootloop like this. Ive tried reflashing stock kernel and ive restored the boot but nothing. Im running cleanrom 1.2. Is that maybe a bug in the rom? I know I should probably update to the newest version but I havent felt like it. I REALLY need some guidance here. Thanks
I'm still unrooted on my p605 and I've had this happen as well, without the logo flicker and rotate. It righted itself after 5 - 10 loops all way to lock screen.

I think you should just start over and do fresh install of CleanROM . the 2.0 one. With my experience I usually make a backup with twrp before I do anything for situations like your in. If you had a twrp backup you can just restore that and you would be good to go. I've learned to take a few extra minutes to make a twrp backup. Sometimes stuff just goes wrong. You can always flash stock firmware with Odin, then do a fresh install of CleanROM 2.0.If you search around forum you can find stock firmware.
That's just my opinion.
I have multiple back ups but when I restored them it still did it. I ended up factory resetting then using titanium to get my stuff back and it works like normal now.

I had the same issue running stock and twrp. I used odin to install the latest version of twrp - from there I loaded a user-compiled kernel - cleared the cache and it worked.
That didn't work for me sadly. But factory reset did so I'm good now

Title says it all pretty much. Two updates ago I started getting very frequent, annoying random reboots on my son's stock, unrooted Tab 8.4 wifi. I have just rooted it and installed TWRP. You will probalby need to try a couple to see what works for you. some people get reboots and some don't (even on the same rom). I flashed freeza's nearly stock rom and haven't had any reboots.

I have the 8.4 every thing was stock no reboots. Rooted it with chainfire and installed a lot of apps including xposed framework and it started random reboots. I don't know what was causing the problem. I wiped the tablet, I still have root on the stock ND3 and not a single random reboot in over 2 weeks.
adding to my post above.. I installed Apex launcher last night and started getting random reboots. switched back to stock launcher for a few hours and no reboots. switched again to apex, and the reboots started again.
going to try some other launchers this weekend to see if it is an Apex thing, or just something to do with using a different launcher.

I went back to Scrosler's first ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2698460
which i believe is the same build # we had right before the updates where the reboots started happening, and it's looking pretty good so far. No reboots overnight according to Bootlog Uptime. Just posting this in case anyone else has been having the same problem. Kind of annoyed I have to go back to an old build to stop them though.
Lite prom seems to work fine. Great performance since its just a debloated stock rom.

I have been having issues with my Note3 ever since the kit kat update back in April. It worked flawlessly on Jelly Bean and I had no issues for over 3 months. I updated to kit kat via Kies with everything completely stock. Since then I get completely random reboots, it could happen when launching an app or even unlocking the screen, and it happens 2 or 3 times a day. So far I have tried 2 factory resets, clearing dalvik cache, and replacing the battery with an Anker replacement. I have tried turning off auto-updating of apps, and turning off wifi scanning. I have also tried running the phone with no apps installed. So far nothing has worked.
I have read several posts with people blaming the stock kernal for these reboots, but there is no definitive solution to this problem. I am looking for any and all help the community has to offer.
Some additional info:
Running latest stock rom- rooted via effortless method

Knox is still 0x0
No sd card in phone
Since you have no issues doing a factory reset, I recommend the following:
1.). Backup all the data you need
2.) Download the newest carrier available firmware for you from sammobile.com
3.) Flash via Odin
4.) Once finished and phone has rebooted, return to stock recovery and perform another data wipe
That will 100% fix your issues, sounds like maybe a corrupt system partition or libs

4.) Once finished and phone has rebooted, return to stock recovery and perform another data wipe
That will 100% fix your issues, sounds like maybe a corrupt system partition or libs

Thanks, I'll give this a try. Last night I uninstalled a bunch of bloat ware with titanium backup to make sure it's still not an app issue. If it reboots again I'll reflash the firmware. Since I'll. Be flashing stock it shouldn't trip knox right?
No, latest firmware complete stock will not trip Knox, as long as you're either doing a parallel upgrade NF9 > NF9 or NB4 > NF9. A downgrade will either fail or trip.
For anyone reading this, i tried to reflash the stock nf9 kernal to see if that was the issue, but i got a restart about 4 hours later. I am going to reflash the firmware via odin and report back.
I am having this issue for a long time. i have done everything, and finally i gave up, as i think it is a hardware issue. what make me confuse is the problem start since the day i upgrade to kit-kat. with every firmware come out i have a new problem. the latest "NF9" my phone just hang and black screen untill i press the power button for 30 second, then will restart. what make crazy is that it shuts off at night, and when i woke up i miss the alarm.
I'm sad to report that the reflash didn't work. I reflashed the NF9 firmware using odin about 4 days ago and it was fine for awhile, but I got 2 reboots today. I'm not sure what is causing this, but I am still open to suggestions. I don't think its hardware related since it didn't do this before kitkat. I still have my samsung warranty until february I believe, so if worst comes to worst then ill have to send it in, but i'm not sure what they will do about it.
The only thing I havent tried is replacing the sim card. Could a sim card cause a reboot issue like this?
i have already done it, even the SD card, still same problem.
Is there some kind of log feature in android that logs crash events or errors somewhere so i can maybe figure out what the problem is?
by the way i think i have solve my problem by updating busybox and supersu. i had to install busybox to system/xbin. and since that day i haven't encounter any restart or freez. almost 2 week. i hope that fix your problem as well.

I do not have busybox installed, and SuperSU is up to date. Also, the restarts happen with or without root ie without SuperSU. I still dont think its an app problem.
Just an update for anyone reading this. I have installed SetCPU to manage cpu clock speeds. I have had it installed for about a week and have not had an update with my custom profiles. It seems the restarts occur when cpu speed is at about ~675MHz. Not sure if its hardware or software yet. Any help is appreciated!
Update. I sent my phone in to samsung for repair. It looks like they just reflashed the firmware. After having it up and running again for 15 minutes the phone rebooted again. I contacted samsung and they recommended sending it in again. I'm not sure if it's worth it to send in again or if i should break my warranty and flash a custom rom. Any suggestions are welcome!
I get restarts because the modem crashes... its a known issue apparently

I cant believe its taken over a year for this issue to get fixed. Im almost positive its a software issue since it never happened on jelly bean. It's strange that not a lot of people have this problem though. A lot of people must have already flashed custom roms I may send it in again since I still have knox 0x0 and see if they do anything else besides reflash the firmware this time. If they only do a reflash again i will just flash a new rom and hopefully everything will be fixed
Final Update:
I sent my phone back to Samsung, apparently my issues were a hardware problem. This time they replaced the "PBA assembly" aka the mainboard. I have had the phone back for almost two weeks without a single restart. I believe my restart problems are over. I hope this information helps anyone with similar issues. I would recommend sending it to Samsung for warranty repair if you are still under warranty. :good:

I had the same problem but already tripped knox so iffy on sending it in. Funny thing is I did the external sd write fix and the phone has not rebooted since, going on 3 days.

I would get reboots even without an SD card put in the phone, so I don't think that would have helped me. I havent had a reboot since I've had the device back
