Hey guys, I now it's waaaaay too soon. But I'm on ATT and have not followed TMO, so maybe you're aware of some semi-solid rumors that I don't know about?
Do you think the TMO Note 4 will be rooted as quickly as the TMO S5, and also have recovery capability like the S5?
ATT S5's and recent Note 3's still don't have recovery options.
I'm switching to TMO for the Note 4 if TMO is still root friendly at that time.

umm, have you never heard of safestrap? its the first thing listed in the Android Development for the ATT Note 3.
And T-Mobile leaves their phone bootloader unlocked anyways though.

Yes, I have. And what does Safestrap actually have to do with Root or Custom Recovery??

Because with Safe strap, you're able to install zips like you can on a normal recovery.
No its not the best that's out there but it works for some I guess.
Safestrap work just like a custom recovery except it does not support aroma or kernal instalation but besides that it can do everything a custom recovery can no aosp unfortionatly but most custom tw roms are pretty good

Hi Folks,
I am going to upgrade my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-T989 to Android 4.4.2 KitKat. The phone is currently locked to t-mobile with the stock rom 4.0.4.
My question is that; do I need unlock the phone FIRST, and then I can upgrade the rom?
Thanks.

Not sure, mine came factory unlocked for use on any network.
There's a post in the general section that covers permanent unlock, you might read through it.
Yes. Unlock, install custom recovery, flash SU binaries, boot, install super SU.
The unfortunate part is most links on XDA for some of that are dead. Need to search Google.
Also, good to Odin flash 4.1.2 first and make sure it works. Then recovery, root, etc.

you only need to unlock it to use on a different network
if you just want to upgrade your rom- install custom recovery and flash rom-

I meant bootloader unlock..... But now I remember.... Not applicable to the S2. ?
Since my t989, I've had Moto X, N5 and M8. All with bootloaders I had to unlock.

No nothing yet. I would only root if it were possible to flash a Tmobile rom.

I don't know of any Tmoble ROMs working on the DE Note 4 (the only Verizon Note 4 with root).
I think I just found a solution lol. I found someone that wants to trade note 4 verizion for tmobile note 4.

You can't install a custom recovery or a custom ROM. You are stuck on stock.

First of all you're in the wrong thread, this is for AT&T devices and your SM-N920V is a Verizon device which cannot be rooted as of yet and I suggest you use the Verizon thread to avoid confusing people and flashing stuff for the wrong device.
Ii belive users were waiting for an update and if they made the update available to download away from the phone. Update was required so users could build a root for att galaxy note 5. From what I read

Yeah i read this too!
We have root for att note 5, it sucks but it's root. Verizon may never get root and I really mean it. They are locked down harder then fort KNOX!!

Really? How can i get that root? Have tried many root apps (kingroot, kingoroot, iroot) and still unsuccessful..
Yes ive tried every thing there is no stable root method I mean you can[kind of] if you haven't updated to marshmallow. Im unlocked and using tmobil but you dont get the aws bands so service isnt as good as a legit tmobil phone.
Trying to enjoy the note 7 at full extent and i ve flashed AT&T it seems to be more responsive ..

You can flash tmo as well.

I'm pretty sure you can flash any firmware as long as it's from a snapdragon device. I mean, I have the Verizon note 7 and flashed the sprint ROM to get root. With a few tweaks everything is fine.
Waw i will try sprint as soon i get home thanks for letting me know

If you flash another carriers firmware does it come with said carriers bloat? Like at&t does it come with all the at&t apps?

I know lol. I'll just sit back and wait patiently for the unlocked firmware. I'm just glad that samsung is signing this so we have the option to ditch the big red stuff.
If we flash another carrier's firmware without root, how do we get the apn setting for verizon set up for data?
Canadian firmware?
Has anyone tested the Canadian firmware (N930W8) to see if it works with Verizon? I know its not root, but the Verizon changing the Note 7 makes me want to change to AT&T.

I flashed the ATT firmware to get back the removed settings, but I can't get the apn settings set up for Verizon mobile data.

Doesn't the firmware block certain bands (such as ATT firmware blocking Verizon bands) regardless of APN?

That's what I thought but I read posts from others on the forum who said they flashed the firmware from other carriers ( ATT or TMobile or Canadian) onto a Verizon Note 7, , and were able to set the apn so that they had verizon data. I'd like to know how they did it.

Me too. I have until Friday to switch to another carrier. I heard of they release the unlocked firmware, n930u, then we could flash it and be good to go.

All Snapdragon (US) Galaxy S8/8+ have locked bootloaders meaning no custom roms. However, root is available with some draw backs.

Always the possibility of issues. As for root with stock ROM, yes you can do that.
