Tried searching, but coming up empty. Maybe I should have put this in the accessories section.
I need to buy a new micro-sd for my G3 I just got yesterday. I would love to pop for the 128gig Sandisk, but 120 bucks would allow me to buy five 64 gig cards. The only card I have right now is an older 8gig card coming out of my HTC Evo LTE so I definitely want something new and bigger.
Is the G3 physically capable of taking advantage of the cards with the 90 mpbs read/write rates of the higher end cards like the Samsung Pro series? Or would I not see any advantage over the slower 45 mbps cards like the Evo series? I know either card would work, but if the LG G3 is only capable of read/write speeds of 20-30 mbps, the faster card doesnt seem to be worth the money. I think I saw one test where somebody was getting around 19mbps of read/write speeds with one of the Sandisk cards capable of 90 mbps, so this tells me its not worth it to get a faster card for double the money.
This will store pictures and music and the occasional video so nothing crazy as far as use.
64 gig Evo series is 25 bucks, 64 gig Pro series is 50 bucks. The money doesnt matter to me, but if I cant use the capabilities its a wasted 25 bucks.
No, the G3 won't be able to take advantage of the UHS-I speeds. You'd have to remove the card from the phone and use a compatible USB3.0 card reader to see those 90MB/s speeds.
I bought a microsd 128gb for $18..i copied over 1000 songs to my phone in less than 30m

Are those graphs showing the built in memory speeds or a Micro SD card speeds?
So basically it looks like it wont be able to take advantage of the ultra fast 90 mbps cards so I should just save my money and get the mid level 45 mbps card. Done deal.
Yes that is showing the internal memory and not the micro sd. Get the cheaper version. If taking 4k record it to internal then transfer to external

It's showing internal, which may be slower than the Samsung Pro cards. I thought the G3 was UHS-1 capable Also, I'd like to know how that guy tested it. If he started loading some mkv videos than OF COURSE it was slower than advertised. Storage always is slower than advertised speeds at transferring compressed media.
On another note, it's MBps/MBPS which is very different than mbps op

what are the cons?
I seen that 128gb for $18, and I thought that was a bit fishy... I just got the SanDisk 128 for $115...if it sounds to good to be true, it usually is...

he is right. it is fake. I already maxed it out. 8gb total. these fake 128gb microsd are hacked to show 128gb but they are really 8gb. just left him a neg feedback. oh well lesson learned and now time to shop for another 128gb microsd..again. this time I will go to bestbuy.
I have a 64mb Samsung pro card. measures 72MB/sec write and 79MB/sec read in the side of my HP laptop. manages 20MB/sec write and 77MB/sec read in my phone. Internal memory definitely has the edge with 56MB/sec write and 221MB/sec read. using A1 Sd Bench.

I picked up the Samsung Evo 64gig card today at Best Buy for 30 bucks. Working like a champ.
SD Card Tester wont run for some reason.
A1 SD Bench says 42.48 read and 17.38 write which is in line with what this card should do.

The lowest a 128GB microSD has ever been is $99 a while back, regular retail is around $130. As of now, SanDisk is the only legit manufacturer. Never buy such stuff from eBay, and definitely not at such a low suspicious price of $18.
Sorry you got burned.

I'm happy to spend more if G3 can works fine and take advantage with the UHS-I at 30/95.
Is this is to confirm that the LG G3 is able to take advantage of the Micro-SD UHS-I speeds. W:30/R:95-Mbps............right?
Please advise, If I store a lot of Hi-Res images [3-5Mb/image] and some HD video files. Is it worth to go for UHS-I 30/95 or 30/30 is enough?
I'm thinking of
1. Toshiba EXCERIA 32G/Class-10/UHS-I @ 30/95Mbps. @ US $31.29
2. Toshiba 64G/Class-10/UHS-I @ 30/30Mbps @ US $32.59
Thnaks :")
I would say so. just performed a test copy of approx 267MB and below are some screenshots showing speeds.
first is Samsung pro 64MB to internal, second is internal to Samsung pro. it was peaking at over 30MB/sec to the SD card when copying photos earlier.

I wouldn't go for the 128GB just yet. The write and read speeds on them are horrendous!! I got a 64GB with 80 write and its fast as hell!

I found that increasing the SD card cache using the "Kernel Tuner **root**" app increases performance. setting to 4096 seems a good level. very slight change between there 6144, though no improvement setting it higher than 6144 in my testing.
SD card manages 33MB/sec write and 78MB/sec read.
internal improves to 70 write and 263 read too.
I noticed that ram tests were faster today. not sure if related to more free RAM, will test again later.

You can get a Class 10 PNY 16GB from Play.com for £16.99.
For use in the SGS2 I wouldn't recommend going any lower than a Class 6, especially if you intend on using the HD camera & media playback.

I bought this card to use with my SGS, wich it does, but the speed is just between 3 and 4 Mb/sec so, far from being class 10 I would say. My humble SD 8Gb class 6 is faster than this one.
Overall, it works but it is slow.

I actually tried to order it from Italy.
When I tried to check out, they asked me to change the expedition address since this item cannot be sold outside UK.
I even tried to find some options to pay the expedition, but there were none.
i send them an email... waiting to see what they say about shipping outside UK.
maybe this thread should get moved to Accessories and topic corrected to MEMORY CARD
Maybe this helps a few here...
I have bought this card at amazon.de
http://www.amazon.de/Lexar-microSDH...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=ce-de&qid=1304015785&sr=8-1
At the time of my purchase, it cost me 52.98€ plus 4.90€ shipping (in Germany). It's now somewhat more expansive. Edit: I can't run any tests, because while I ordered it on saturday it just got shipped today.
It has some good reviews:
http://www.mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Id=13305
http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Lexar-32GB-Class-10-microSDHC-Memory-Card-Review_id2674/page/2
A lower class card from SanDisk or Transcend would have cost the same. 16GB cards retails for 23€ from reputable sources. So I paid an extra 10€ for the ease of double space without exchanging any cards or carrying a second.
Those who have ordered this or are interested in doing so might want to check this out:
Search "pny-16gb-micro-sd-memory-card-class-10-16-99-play-note/924009" on google and click the first link. I can't post links yet.
Apparently some people have recieved unbranded cards which aren't as fast as advertised and that sometimes have died very quickly.
I will be testing my 32GB Class 2 Sandisk card in mine when I get it to see whether its up to snuff. There is a lot of misinformation out there around Class speeds and the effects in your phone - Class 2 is sufficient to encode and decode 720p, and therefore sufficient for nearly all in-phone use-case scenarios, question is whether its enough for 1080p media.

I just received this card in the post so I thought I'd give this a bump and let you know the speed test results from it.
Tested while card had over 8GB of data already on it, and directly inside the SGS2 as I figured considering it's being used in there it might have been a fairer result that way.
I'm quite impressed with it to be honest. Not quite class 10 speeds but pretty damn close. Now we just have to wait to see if it'll crap out in a few months time.

That is class 10 speed. Class 10 denotes that it has at least 10MB/s write speed. Which your picture denotes.

Well it really depends on how you plan to use your card. Do you plan to use it for storage only, or a mixture of storage / application use.
If you plan to use the card purely for storage, then I would suggest you purchase a class 10 card from any vendor for the faster read speeds.
However, if you plan to use the card for storage / application use, then I say go for the Sandisk card. It's been shown to provide the best in term of random write speeds which is essential.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to find a CrystalDiskMark report for the Transcend 32GB class 4 card so I can't comment on that.
Hope this helps.

Better read speed around 20MB/s
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15269669
Sandisk performs better even at the same class.
Been using a Sandisk 32GB ( Original ) and it performs fine, transfer speed is a little low only going as high as ~6MB/s but mostly 5MB/s sustained.
I use it to store HD movies, first time though it stutters when playing something its a 3.87GB file and it jitters at fixed locations of the movie, I placed the same copy in the internal sd and I dont get the same jitters.. Im not sure if its the card not fast enough or its a sign of the card going bad.. other movies with a lower file size like 3.3GB plays w/o any stuttering at all.

Hi guys, I'm a new owner of the GS2 (got it 6 days ago) and I would also like to ask about micro sd cards.
In particular, anyone having bad experience with ebay orders? Like fake products (ordering a class 6 card and getting class 4)?
Was thinking about 16gb class 6 sandisk, I don't think that I need 32gigs. Or should I go for 32? I mean, I really can't imagine filling all that space...
Thanks in advance!

Ordering from Ebay nets you mostly fake cards as in the size you ordered turns out to be extremely less than what you purchased. Like a 16gb card turning out to be only a 2gb card.
ok I see a lot of quadrant scores and stuff here .. which is great and all .. but I would like to see what everyone is using as far as their sd card goes. This will help others who see this choose an sd card that is proven to be effective here .. a reliable source to say.
I would like:
1) Brand, Size of card, and Class rating
2) Price and where it was purchased at
3) what you think of the card
4) a screen shot of the speeds .. I used SD Tools (free and it lets you save a screenshot)
so here is mine:
1)OEM systems 32GB class 10
2) $57.25 on amazon http://www.amazon.com/OEM-microSD-m...4AJO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1320822033&sr=8-2
3) I really havent decided if I like this card or not .. when I run the benchmarks in my class 10 8gb card from sandisk the speeds are much better (15mb write to 8mb write now). I dont know if I can tell a difference in the performance of the phone ... maybe a little loading pictures in my album... but I also have my Nikon DSLR 7000 full size photos on there as well .. so its to be expected i guess.
4)

if the write speed is ABOVE the class number, then it means you got a good card
in your case it was rated Class 4, so it supposed to guarantee a minimum of 4 MB/s write to the SD card
and your score shows 5 MB/s that means it's good, and not a fake counterfeit or defective unit, which might have shown 2 MB/s
even on the oldest of my phones like the Treo650 it was able to easily write above Class 6 speeds

i've been using them for many years already, so they are safe
they offer life time warranty, however it takes a bit of work for them to replace your dead cards
Patriot 32Gb Class 10
Originally bought this card maybe one week after it was released, approx one year ago. Bought it on Amazon for approx $105. Recently totally crashed and could NOT be formatted. I did have off and on weird issues with SD card not recognized, and basically had to reformat. Was running the card in Nexus one, as well as the Sensation 4G. Patriot did an RMA on the card and the replacement runs twice as fast as the original. I think my first card had some weird bugs. Glad it died off. Patriot did honor their unconditional 5 year warranty BTW. I typically get 10MB/s write speed when copying ROMs over from my PC over USB. I used to get only 3Mb's at best with the original card. Using BeastMod II v2.1 ROM.
Edit:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010807 go to this thread and it describes how changing the cache settings can alter read speeds. I seem to get better results using 4096 setting, while I used to use 1024 setting on my Nexus one. Best to test settings for yourself. My read speeds increased to a consistent 21.0MB/s. Write speeds were anywhere from 9.0 to 10. The cache settings only affect the read speeds, BTW as far as I know.
TopRam from Amazon
16GB Class 10 for $24.99, and it comes with a reader. I have been using it for 2 weeks with no issues. Unfortunately, since I'm new here, I cannot post a link to it. But search for TOPRAM 16 on Amazon and you will get lots of hits… This one was from Midwest Memory Outlet... the one with the red reader

yes, the cache only works for read, and it doesn't improve it by much on fast phone like ours, is good for older phones that were Sub 1 Ghz
as for your writing speed, it did not even reach the minimum guaranteed of 10 MB/s
you are only getting 9 MB/s write on both test
Yet another reason why i do not trust that brand Patriot

I ran this test 10 times and each time the speed was consistent. I like the quality and reliability of this companies cards. Consistently fast and never had any issues. I also use a Lexar sdcard for my Nikon camera.
how about sharing a screenshot of the test?

I am looking for class 6 32/64GB microSD card at good prices..... If u guyz can share link to sum website where i can purchase it and tht ships internationally. (No Ebay)
PS: Why Sandisk class6 Cards so expensive for no reason?
May I ask why you specifically want a Class 6 and not a Class 4 (generally quicker) or Class 10 (quicker for large transfers only (unless you get a very good one))?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
edanfalls,
Class 4 has a lower transfer speed (than Class 6 and above) for both small and big files.
Class 6 is a "golden middle" between low (<6) and high (>6) Class cards - fast Class card for entry Class card price.
Nice choice!

Yes, for sequential low-queue-order reads. This is mostly irrelevant for real-world usage.
Class 10s are usually actually slower in real applications. Of course, if you want the extra speed for simply transferring files, then a Class 10 will be better for you (which is why I stated that Class 10s are quicker for transfers in my first post).
There are some Class 10s which perform better than Class 4s with random high-queue-order reads and writes, but these aren't typical Class 10s and cost a lot more.
site everything but stromboli.com i ordered friday afternoon for a 32gb class 10 sd mem card 45$ for my G Note and recieved monday plus it had a card reader thing i put the sd card in then put it all in my printer an print away plus a crusier drive that i put sd into an connect up to usb very highly rated company in PA on both amazon an ebay an thier own site. I tried to be on topic - I looked for best Class 6 prices, and they're more expensive than Class 10s that outperform them in every area. This is why I questioned why it has to be a Class 6.

Well no reputed manufacturer makes class10 at the moment. The ones tht makes are having shaky performance and data errors within a few months.
If one needs a fast card the safe route is to go with class6 cards... and i want it coz i intend to watch 1080P movies on my phone and it requires transfers as well....
PS: Maybe i will get a class4 card tommorow, which is easily available and i hope it wont lag for any of my use.

Verbatim, Kingston, Lexar... these are all reputable brands and are selling Class 10s.
Mostly they all use the same flash manufacturers anyway.
The only 64gb cards ive seen are these "Sandisk 64GB Mobile Ultra microSDXC Memory Card, up to 30MB/s read speed" I just bought one for $175 from here so not cheap but I wanted more storage for my note. They will get cheaper once more 64gb cards get released but sandisk is the best brand for SD cards.
http://www.scorptec.com.au/computer/42572-sdsdqy-064g-u46sa
I have seen them online for $165 but I only buy sdcards from people I trust and these guys have a shop near my house where I get most of my computer stuff.
Not sure where you live but this is from Australia so you may want to check if they ship OS. I would never trust private sellers for any SD cards as theres just way too many fakes around.
Here is a speed test I did on the card using win7x64 with USB 2 which could be why I don't get much over 20mb/s with any of my cards.

Going by this test it would be a class 6 but they dont have a class rating anywhere apart from 30mb/s read speed which I dont hit. Just transferring over my 32gb cards data to this and am getting a speed of just over 7MB/s so id rate it a c6
Thanks! I was interested in the 64GB card myself but couldn't find any reviews.
Is the Note totally compatible with SDXC?
Also, I remember reading somewhere when it was released a few months ago that it is officially a Class 6, so your rating is spot on
The random 4k write performance is excellent, that makes my mind up.
For those in Europe interested in the 64Gb microsd card, Amazon Germany has it for sell at 90 Eur.
I just brought one for £82 inc delivery, should get here this time next week.
Since a class 10 32Gb card cost £40, 64Gb class 6 card for £80 is not a bad price if you need the storage space.

I've got a Sandisk 64GB Mobile Ultra microSDXC Memory Card in my Note and it works as expected.
I've tested a Kingston 32GB microSDHC Class 10 Memory Card which also worked perfectly fine.
I suggest for mobile usage you get the mobile ultra. The random 4k write speed kills the standard class 10 cards which were optimised to do quick sequential writes only.
I got my Sandisk 64GB Mobile Ultra microSDXC from a store in Australia called Scorptec but they are available all over. look up amazon, etc.. (can't post links because of new member)
Class 10 on Amazon very fast and good

Any idea what speed MicroSD cards the HTC 10 will support? It'd be nice to get a high-spec UHS card to use the expandable storage! Coming from a Galaxy S4 and S2, my last HTC device was an HTC Desire - so I'm not sure what the previous generation of HTC devices supported.
I guess it supports U3, because A9 does.
Good to hear, looks like I'll be upgrading my MicroSD card then, thanks!
Great news. I have a U3 card but don't get the full benefit of it at the moment. When I searched for this information on precious phones I could never find anything!
I called HTC today to see if they could tell me if the HTC 10 will support UHS-II but after consulting with the build team they still did not understand what I was asking about so hopefully the full specs on the bus type for the memory card reader will be released soon. If anyone knows if HTC 10 supports UHS-II please comment as I am considering buying the new sandisk card or the samsung pro + U3 card depending on what the bus type is.

If you're getting Samsung Pro+ U3, you don't need UHS-II. Its specs are:
UHS-I / U3 / Class 10
Max. Read Speed: 95 MB/s
Max. Write Speed: 90 MB/s
It's a fast card. I got several 64 GBs when it was on sale for $28. The 128 GB version is available but almost double the price of slower 128GB cards, but still not a bad deal IMO.

Thank you for the response. I was going to get a UHS-II CARD if the HTC 10 used that bus. If they stick with the UHS-I then I was going to go with the samsung pro plus. Glad to here you like your card, I have read nothing but positive remarks on the samsung cards.
So which card (in terms of speed) to get for optimal user experience?
So I was anxiously waiting for HTC's reply about the UHS-I vs UHS-II.
Randomly looked at the SD820 specs five minutes ago. I'm feeling so dumb right now.

Well there's our answer.
And since the A9 supported UHS-I U3, the 10 will also support UHS-I U3.
It will NOT "fully" support UHS-II U3 cards, they will work (backwards compatibility) but you will not get the full speed benefit of them!
Maybe we'll get SD 4.0 (UHS-II) with Snapdragon 830 or whatever it will be called..

I'm going to assume you mean with Adoptable Storage "enabled".
Well, of course an UHS-I U3 card. Sure you can buy and use an UHS-II U3 card but there is no real benefit to that because the 10 fully supports only UHS-I U3. Also UHS-II U3 cards are really expensive..
For user experience, buy the microSD card with the fastest random 4K read and write speed possible.
Why "random 4K"? Because what we do on our devices is inherently random. Opening an app, updating an app, skipping music files and such. Only things that we do on our devices which are sequential in nature would be recording a video, taking a photo, downloading a large file and so on. (or transferring big files PC<>phone)
Sequential read/write speeds with SD cards (or SSD or HDD) are what's advertised most of the time and those speeds are already waaay more than enough so no need to focus on those aspects!
For example phones record 4K video usually at about 40-65Mbit/s which is 5-8.1MB/s. And that's sequential, not random.
That's about the heaviest sequential write operation we do on our phones. Downloading a large OS update could be "heavier" if you have really fast internet speed.
For random 4K read, I consider 10MB/s or above as really good. 8-9MB/s or below, I personally wouldn't bother.
For random 4K write, at least 1MB/s. 2MB/s is nice and above is excellent. (biggest impact=App install/update, OS update etc)
For speed reference and a reason for the above speed recommendations:
Anandtech's internal NAND random 4K speed tests from Galaxy S7 review part 1.
You can for example google "make model crystaldiskmark" and see the results.
If you don't find CrystalDiskMark results for some specific microSD card
a) don't bother because it's some random card
b) rummage through Newegg or Amazon etc buyer reviews. Occasionally some kind soul will benchmark his/her recent purchase and include the numbers in his/her review.
For example the Sandisk Extreme microSDXC 64GB is really nice

Kingston UHS-I U3 microSDXC 64GB also looks nice at the first glance but look at the random 4K write speed, that's horrendous! (don't even touch it with a ten foot pole)
Lexar 1800x microSDXC 64GB is one of the best I've ever seen. But it's so expensive (100€'s) ;(
Disclaimer: when you are looking at CrystalDiskMark results for 4K speed, do not look at the QD32 or Q32Tx numbers.
Only look at the 4K speed numbers that don't have the QD32 or Q32Tx text next to them, that's the number we are interested in.
QD stands for Queue Depth. Long story short: Queue Depth means how many read and/or write (I/O) operations are queue'd one after the other.
QD32 is a REALLY high and ridiculous number. You do not see that kind of queue depth with I/O operations on a phone, not on a PC, and heck, most of the time not even in servers either.
The speed number which does not have QD32 or Q32Tx text next to it means that the Queue Depth is 1. Only 1 read or write operation is queue'd. That's the normal kind of QD you see in phones or PC's.

For music listening I would say no. The difference will be when you want to save large files to and from the card. This is when the differences in speed per second add up over minutes when you are talking about gigabytes of data transfered.
In reality, this shouldn't be a big issue unless you are constantly moving big files. I guess the most relatable for me would be twrp backup to SD card. For a file of that size I would only imagine an extra 30 seconds to 1 minute so its still fine.

You will bottleneck in that scenario... But I would imagine it would be the WiFi causing the slow down rather than the card.
It will be most notable when downloading and uploading via a cable. Or saving to the card from the phone (like twrp which is generating data for the card rather than getting it from the USB cable or online).
I don't think you will have anything to worry about here buddy.
I wouldn't think it comes with a UHS-II bus since no phone in existence does.

If all you're doing is storing music and pictures on it, you won't see a problem. If you decide to use a slower card as expanded storage though, it's going to be a bottleneck for your applications.
I'm going to be doing some research into the fastest card the phone will support, methinks!
