Hey everyone,
As with every link on google related to the thread title above, I found myself with Captain_Throwback excellent guide. However, the files are missing so I can't really work my way into S-OFF my HTC EVO 4G.
Does anyone have the files so I'll be able to proceed?
Thanks in advance

oops.
I have these files uploaded on Dev-Host. Guess I need to update the links, since the servers over there deleted my files .
Working on it now. You know, it would've been more helpful if you posted about this over there . I would definitely have seen it if you did.

Considering the fact that I don't feel like registering to too many forums, I didn't feel the need to post it there. And I already saw you roaming around here, so I thought this forum was my best option
And again, many thanks for the great tutorial. I really hope it will work out

Tbh, I don't roam around the Supersonic forums too much. It's really just a coincidence I even saw your post. If you want me to see your post, posting in the thread in which I posted it (in whatever forum that is) is always the "best option."
Just FYI in case I have any other broken links .
Well, I went through the entire guide and it worked perfectly! I got S-OFF on my device AND I was able to update the phone and flash custom ROMs and whatnot. I'll play with the phone later on today.
Thanks a bunch for all your help

To start off I got my EVO on the day it came out and have done all the OTAs since then. Stats below
Hardware version - 0002
Android version 2.2
software version 3.29.651.5
PRI 1.77_003
PRL 60671
I have been reading a bunch on how to root my EVO cause I would like to start flashing custom roms. This is my first android phone and I have never rooted or flashed anything before.
1. What is the correct and best method for me to root my phone?
2. Once my phone is rooted does that mean I can start flashing custom roms?
3. What apps can I use or benifit my once I am rooted?
I know that answers to all my questions are probably out in the forums but I have read so many different posts and dont know which ones would apply to me.
Any help would be great! Sorry for the noobish questions, I know they have been asked a million times, but if someone could just point me in the right direction that would be much appreciated. I am excited to get this rolling and look forward to all the great roms that the devs have put together. Please help!
I just wanted to thank everyone for all the help and the quick responses!

WOW! I was just about to reply to the first post when I stumbled upon your second post.
Terrel_B is clearly a better person than I am. Not only are you already aware the answers are in the forums but when no one jumps to respond you bump the thread with a douche-bag remark. I wouldn't of bothered.

No prob, that's what we're here for.
I apologize for the second remark I made! And yes you are correct I was aware of the information being somewhere on the forums but as I stated I read so many and couldnt figure out which root method was the one I was suppose to use. Then when I seen how many people viewed my thread and no responses I got frusterated. Again I apologize! Half the time I dont know what I would do without this site! I guess I just figured that more people would want to help and when the responses werent coming in...
Sorry for the "douche bag" remarks!
Also thanks Terrel_B!
can someone point me in the right direction on how to root the phone? I can't seem to get it! Thanks

I know your new but its pretty obvious what and how to root this.

Please refrain from Q/A's in the dev section in the future. It helps keep things clean. If you need anymore information after reading that you can PM me.

Look at page 120 if those steps don't work. Page 120 worked perfect for me.
was meant for the first post.
I'm trying to fix my cousin's galaxy nexus that was bought new a few months ago. It's jus that after the recent system update, his whole phone has become sluggish, and it doesn't feel right. I must admit that I've never owned an Android device (neither has he) so we both really don't know how to fix it or restore the phone. I looked in the development section but its just so overwhelming, not sure what I should be looking for or trying out..
Can someone please point this beginner in the right direction? I read that the latest update was causing problems and people installed the "stock version" on their phones, which made it better, but I don't know I how I would go about doing that.
I'd appreciate some feedback thanks!
Android version: 4.2.1
Do you need the baseband, kernel version, build number?
This isn't a support site so you're going to need some self reliance.
This is a good starting point.

I know this is not a support site but this is the section to ask for help, isn't it? I read through that sticky but it doesn't necessarily explain how I would go about restoring me phone to install a stock copy of the latest Android..I really don't want to mess up this phone so that is why I want to confirm everything before I try to load something onto it.
If you scroll to the 2nd post in that thread there's a link to a guide to return to stock as well as a guide to root.

Best way to make it quick is to earse everything like I did after owning my Nexus for 1 yr. Back up everything that needs backing up on a computer.
But the New 4.2 update is pretty heavy and causes lag. Also having low storage space can cause it to slow down too I think.
Here's what I recommend. Root it. Have u done that yet? If not I'll help. It's REALLY easy. Only four commands(I believe) and a driver for adb and fastboot and the SUfile and the recovery.img.
This will EARSE everything. So you'll be fresh. And then put ur freshly backed up stuff back on the phone.

If I have helped you.... hit that sexy thanks button. ^_^
What's going on xda? I wanted to post this in the developer forum, so that possibly Ya know, a developer would see it and read it but the site said "no" so I have to post here. I had my phone rooted with weaksauce I was gonna go all out and unlock the boot loader and s-off but weaksauce made it so easy to have root access I was pretty satisfied with just that for a little while at least. Then I got an update Download from Verizon. I pressed where it said update now. I was curious. I'm sorry, anyway now I have the Verizon version of sense 6.0 and weaksauce shows me root failure when it runs. It's been like this for quite some time now and I've been searching around for any info on it but I'm the only person who has made a post about it so far. Other people also have this problem, I made a post on android forums and many others are sharing the same issue. Developers please. Let me know if you share the problem or know the solution or if you are currently working on the solution because I am getting slightly impatient. Thanks
Why not post this in Verizon HTC ONE forum? There you will receive more help.

If it was actually that simple I would have already done that. I have a VERIZON m7. Weaksauce was the only root method I tried that worked, so it's not that I'm too lazy to search around for the correct thread, it's that that correct thread doesn't exist yet so I just keep making threads on different android forums until I flood the internet with my words and someone finally notices.

Whats Going on? What is going on is that you really didnt pay attention to the rules when you joined. Had you then you would know why you cant post in the Dev forums. You would also know that had you posted this in the dev forums, it would have been deleted on site.
Now I am gonna move this to the proper device forums and advise you to take another look at the rules before you post again.
Basically, you are SOL until Firewater/Weaksauce/Towelroot is made to work on our latest OTA.
Had you run Firewater when you had root, prior to updating, you would have been able to update and retain s-off and root.
Since you didn't, you are now stuck without root until/when/if an updated method/exploit is posted.

Your thread got answered after it was moved to the right place, so that mod with "a false sense of entitlement" is the only reason you got a accurate reply.
Your call, but a bit of appreciation for those who keep this site running and volunteer to help is never a bad thing. Running a site of this size is not an easy task.

Wow so let me get this straight. You come to a development sight and want to ask a question? Tthen you post in the wrong section so you get the least amount of answers. So not only does a mod come along and move it to the proper place so you have a chance of getting an answer, but tells you where you messed up instead of just deleting your post. So you proceed to call names and insult me? Then break the rules again. Well how about this. The next time you decide to insult someone you will be banned from the site and then you be stuck with what ever simple minded questions you may have. Take this as your only warning. I would normally just remove you from the site for good but I am in a good mood today so I will let this one slide.
