I changed it to an unsupported number via ROM Toolbox. I'm no longer able to do anything, as the UI crashes instantly. I can't just replace the official firmware via download mode and Odin to fix this, correct?

Yes, but in the future before changing stuff like that I would take a nandroid.

Yep ur power screwed. Just start over with a new installation. As HughesNet suggested, always Nandroid first before messing with things like DPI.

You should be able to revert through ADB. Search for which file has the dpi setting. Change it back to stock and push with ADB. You can also try terminal in TWRP

Any suggestions on values and procedures on adjusting DPI?

[HOW-TO] Simplified Root + Recovery + Custom ROM

This is a simplified guide for those new to rooting & flashing a custom ROM on the Optimus V. No need to type complex commands that are hard to follow and prone to mistakes. Basically there are 3 main steps: Root, Install custom recovery, & flash custom ROM.
Windows Drivers for the Optimus V (Optional but suggested):
http://www.lg-phones.org/wp-content/uploads/LG-Optimus-V.zip
Rooting
Rooting is the process of gaining administrative rights to the phone so one can do customizations that aren't normally allowed. Root by itself doesn't do anything interesting, unless there's an app that needs it. The fancy stuff comes from custom ROMs. Just remember Virgin Mobile Activation only works on Froyo ROMs, so do it before going to Gingerbread. The easiest way to root nowadays is to use GingerBreak. It can be found here:
[26.04.2011][v1.2] GingerBreak APK (root for GingerBread) - xda-developers
Instruction Steps:
1. Turn on USB Debugging (Settings - Applications - Development)
2. Copy the GingerBreak.apk to a /sdcard dir, then using a 'file manager' app (search for one in Android Market) install it like a regular app.
3. It can take up to 10 minutes, and will reboot automatically when complete (rooted), if attempt fails, reboot manually & run it again.
Install custom recovery image
The recovery image is an alternative bootup instead of normal Android Operating System. It allows low-level operations such as backup/restore a ROM, wipe partitions, and flash ROMs.
4. Download and copy the recovery image VM670NH_recovery.img (works with new & old OV screens) onto your /sdcard.
5. Install the Flash Image GUI app (save the .apk to a /sdcard directory, then open it with file manager) Run the app & select 'Recovery Image' option with the file above.
Flash Custom ROM
I.H.O CyanogenMod 7 ROM (Gingerbread)
6. Copy the unextracted ROM .zip that you wish to install to the /sdcard dir. Also if installing a CyanogenMod Gingerbread ROM, the unextracted gapps.zip also needs to be placed in the same dir to flash right after the ROM .zip.
7. Boot into Clockworkmod recovery mode (From powered off state, hold vol-down, home, and power button until the LG logo appears).
8. FIRST, BACKUP ORIGINAL ROM! Don't continue until this is successful. Use vol-up/down, camera, & back keys to navigate in recovery.
9. Wipe Data/Factory Reset, wipe cache partition. Under Advanced submenu, wipe dalvik-cache. Then uner Mounts & Storage submenu, format all partitions EXCEPT /sdcard.
10. Flash the custom ROM.zip from sdcard and gapps.zip too if going to a CyanogenMod ROM
11. Reboot and enjoy the new ROM, the first boot takes longer than usual, also some problems may disappear after rebooting.
NOTES:
- NEVER use Android Settings 'Factory Reset' from now on, only do factory reset & wipes from within recovery mode. Most ROMs should have this option removed from the Android settings.
- Some newer Optimus V screens hardware changed, see link: [FIX]Black screen with custom recovery and custom roms (BobZHome's IHO recovery from the Wiki binary -> recovery page also works with newer screens.)
- If restoring a backed up ROM in CWM recovery gives 'MD5 mismatch' error (likely caused by renaming a ROM backup). Try this fix:
# cd /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/<name_of_backup>
# rm nandroid.md5
# md5sum *img > nandroid.md5
- If you ever want to restore to original stock ROM (ONLY on OV's with older screen), with original recovery and UNrooted:

titanium backup?
Excellent guide for the likes of me (noob), you might wanna mention titanium backup too

What is the exact error you're getting? I believe you have to keep retrying, maybe up to 10 times.
Thanks a lot.Real helpful

the windows drivers and gingerbreak will work.
you'll need an optimus S custom recovery and rom, though. If you use optimus V software, your home and menu keys will be backwards, and there may be other little issues with the network.
look on android central forums for optimus S development and you'll find roms and recoveries no problem.
Thank you for this. The Rom manager method is great, i was afraid not to brick my optimus one with the adb shell crap and pc connection. They should make a nici sticky like this in the euro section, not with adb crap.
Can this guide by updated, with more details?
The menu options in ROM manager are not the same anymore, and I am flailing around trying to figure out which options to hit.
I'm stuck at the LG logo boot up screen after doing what I think is flashing the bumblebee ROM step. (step 10 in the guide).
I used these steps and they worked great for rooting, but I'm having a problem with recovery. I flashed CWM 3.2.0.1 from ROM Manager and it appeared to work fine, but when I try to boot into recovery I just get a blank screen.
I have done the following:
Busybox 1.19.2 from Stericson, installed to /system/bin
Superuser from market, updated to 2.3.6.3, su is 2.3.2-efgh
Used ROM Manager 4.4.0.7 to flash CWM recovery 3.2.0.1
I've tried getting to recovery using Home+Vol Dn+Power, or the reboot menu option in rom manager, and just get the blank screen.
Anyone run into this or have suggestions?

[fix]black screen in custom recovery or custom roms
you probably have the newer screen type, which it appears the older custom kernels need a .config setting changed before building to support.
you'll have to use flash_image in adb or terminal.
probably. full instructions and downloads at that link.
yay, you didn't flash a rom through rom manager at the same time! or it'd be a lot harder.

ROM Manager is only supposed to be use to flash the Clockworkmod recovery image, then everything else is done by booting into the recovery mode. ROM manager's other features should not be used on the OV.

the only big problem left is getting the "back to stock" up to par for the newer OV's...
if someone could upload the critical part of a nandroid made from the newer stock system after rooting but before installing a custom rom, a more up-to-date back to stock guide could be put up with the newer files, or at least the older files patched with the newer kernel.
anyone want to upload the boot.img from a first nandroid backup off of a newer ov? the boot.img doesn't have any personal info, and it's got the newer kernel, which is all that's needed to fix up the older back-to-stock nandroid files.

I think there's about an 85% chance that this contains the kernel that you're looking for; not sure if you have some way to deal with that 15% uncertainty but hopefully it's helpful.
Questions about ROM Manager
Hi, can I get a clear clarification about installing the ROM Manager on my LG Optimus p500, when your about to install the ClockwordMod Recovery you would have to select the phone model. LG p500 is not listed. Is there an alternative to it?

Complete noob here, I mean a complete noob...first cell phone.
I was hoping to tether my new OV, but i quickly found out i have software version 2.2.2 which does not allow me to turn on hot spots. So I heard I can root my phone to get around this. I did stes 1-3 without issue, now I am stuck on step 3a. When i try to install busybox (not sure what this does for me?), i get the follow error/message "It looks like you have Busybox installed, but there are multiple copies still installed. /system/bin/ is currently as RW. This means that something may have gone wrong in the installation process. Please verify on your end that everything is correctly installed and working.
What do I verify? There is no Busybox app to run, only to install so it looks like the install failed?

If you go into 'adb shell' from the PC with phone connected, or open the app 'terminal emulator' to get a unix prompt, and type 'busybox', you should see a list of commands. If you get a no command found, then it's not installed. It's suggested to install so you can run unix commands, but not really needed. Root & custom recovery are the important ones. You're probably safe to continue, just make sure to make a backup in recovery mode before doing anything else.

Phone Not booting after build.prop changed

I have Samsung Galaxy s3 ATT rooted - clockworld mod v-6.0.1.2. I was trying to install google wallet.
One of instructions was to change the following in the build.prop file.
ro.product.model=htc_jewel
ro.product.name=htc_jewel
ro.product.device=htc_jewel
I changed it. Installed custome google wallet. Reboot my phone and it gets stuck in the samsung logo, and then the screen blanks out.
What do I do?
Thanks

Thanks I did try it. I am getting another issue. When I try the "adb shell" command as pointed by thread above - it throws a error - device not found. I have installed my drivers multiple times - but does not seem to be helping. when I connect the phone to the laptop - it is in clockworld recovery mode with the initial set of options.
That sounds all correct. Go back into the SDK manager and under extras there are a few drivers. Check and install those. Try it again.
If that doesn't work, I'll send you the necessary drivers as soon as I get a chance.

I was able to flash my SG3 with stock ROM using ODIN in download mode. So back in shape. Thanks for everybodies suggestion on this.
As a bonus, AT&T had a RMA and were ready to exchange it for a new phone, which I am declining now.
Ah, I'm sorry to hear that you had to use ODIN and wipe all your data. I solved your driver problem. I apologize about the length of time it took. If you ever need to fix the build.prop again, I've updated my OP to include the driver section. Happy modding!

Hi guys I have yet another crazy issue I am faced with
My Samsung galaxy tab p3110 model has just got the black screen of death after having replaced build.Prop file however I did create a backup of the build. Prop file only its inside the root folder of the tablet at stake. I only seem to have access to Odin mode and I need a way of moving the original built.Prop file back in its place. Does anyone here have any ideas of how I may go about doing this without risking screwing up my tablet further
Any help is greatly appreciated

You're in the i747/i747m Galaxy S3 forum, so use anything you find here with care. You might want to consult the Galaxy Tab forum for more device specific advice; however, fixing a build.prop brick should be a pretty generic procedure for an android device.
Here is a guide for fixing build.prop errors using adb. You'll probably have to track down different drivers than the ones linked to that thread for your device unless they happen to be generic Samsung drivers. Here's a minimal adb installer so you don't have to mess with the whole Android SDK, just to use one tiny tool
If you have a custom recovery or wouldn't mind using Odin to install one (again, consult your device's forum for specific issues - this may or may not be safe depending on your bootloader), you could just use the file tools built into TWRP or Aroma file manager to replace your modified build.prop with your backup. Be sure to set permissions to 644 after moving the file or you might still be bricked. This might be easier than getting adb working or it might not, depends on your comfort level with Odin and how tricky your device is to mod safely. I see custom ROMs in the Galaxy Tab forum, so it definitely can be done.
Slightly confused
Thanks for your quick response
However I am still a bit confused. Does flashing TWRP recovery through odin mean that all the data and apps currently installed on the tablet will be wiped

Your data and apps will not be affected by flashing TWRP; that Odin package will just be a recovery, not a full firmware update like they are a lot of the time. It will just replace your stock recovery with a custom recovery that has more functionality.
TWRP basically gives you a mini operating system on your phone for creating backups or flashing ROMs. TWRP also has some file tools in its Advanced tab you could use to copy your build.prop backup to /system and set the permissions, so you should be able to use it to fix your soft brick. It is independent of your ROM, so it will unaffected by your main system's build.prop error. There should be a hardware key combo you hold with the tablet off to boot into recovery. A lot of the time its vol up + power (i747 has a physical home button and recovery boot is vol up + home + power).
Thanks

BTW is there a default recovery partition that your supposed to be able to access because when I press and hold "power + volume up" the tab just restarts and shows the Samsung logo over and over again. Also I could swear that I did install TWRP at the time when I rooted but there is no sign of it.

New version of FreeGee used; stuck in CWM bootloop

I have done this before but I used what seems to be a different version of freegee (didn't have the option to backup efs or flash TWRP) so I unlocked my device and after it had completed I rebooted and then powered down. I put my phone in to CWM and flashed the stock debloated ROM. After flashing this ROM I was stuck in a bootloop. I ended up using LG Tool to get it back to stock. I thought it must have been a random once off issue so I tried again with Freegee, same thing happened, only this time no matter what I do I can not get LG Tool to fix the issue as it keeps giving me the error of low battery even though it is at full capacity. I then tried to use BC2 to flash a kdz file and I get the same error. I have since tried factory resetting, sideloading different recoveries, ROMs and basebands without boot. I have tried to use LG Tool about 50 times and it is not working. I have changed USB ports, reinstalled drivers etc, just keeps giving me that error. Yes I have set permission in the app and I am using Windows 7

Thanks for trying to help. I am not running stock and can not get a stock ROM to work (with locked bootloader obviously)
LG Tool is requesting for a TOT file which the E988 doesn't have, I have tried using E98810D_00.kdz file in the software field but it is not recognising the cab file. The DLL file is recognised but I don't know what else to do from there.
LG Mobile Support Tool keeps failing on me due to low battery error which as you can see, I have been trying my hardest to get it to work. Battery is at 99% but it still won't flash! - I am stuch with a custom ROM and a dodgy unlocked bootloader due to the latest release FreeGee.
I tried the old file you attached but it fails to download the image file to unlock my bootloaders, I guess because it is already unlocked.
What I need now is to find a way to relock my bootloader that doesn't involve LG Tool/LG Mobile Tool and then try the old FreeGee app again. Or I find a way to get passed this stupid battery warning

First try to use LG Mobile Tool. All files and instructions found here CLICK ME
If that doesn't work the follow the instructions I posted earlier and it will get your phone booting again. As for getting back to stock and unlocking the bootloaders without causing kernel issues, I am still waiting for a response from Seth. He has been making a lot of changing as this is a known problem. The latest version is supposed to work like it used to now.

I am unsure what this is but I am interested? Thanks, I ended up doing what I was trying to do in the first place and IT WORKED
To anybody that faces the same issue:
in recovery sideload install madmacks TWRP file attached below
after that is installed flash CM11 using the same sideload
The command in adb is adb sideload (your file name in here without the brackets.zip) You must include .zip
It is strange because it didn't work the first 3 times I flashed the ROM and on the fourth it worked, so keep trying

Thanks! This worked 100%. Something's really up with the freegee CWM, totally useless. Had 3 days of a headache till I saw this post. I used to be a CWM guy, now TWRP all the way...! The interface is touch based and much easier to handle than CWM. Best of all it doesn't go into a bootloop! Cheers! :good::good:

Need help accessing interactive mode in CWM

I got stuck in a neverending boot with the CM11 OTA updater on last nights nightly. Updater works in cm, then upon reboot, seems to install the update in non-interactive mode in cwm, then upon reboot, doesn't get past boot animation.
If i try to boot into CWM/recovery, it installs again, but I can't access the interactive menus, it just installs, then reboots again, and get's stuck. ADB sees the device, but says "offline" so I can't connect and access anything thru that.
Don't wanna have to invoke odin, as that's a last-ditch fix, and not sure what i'd install anyways.
I'd assume you'd be able to use one of these devices if you have an micro SD card availibile on your phone. I think you know what to do after that and that would be to get your ROM and GApps onto there. If you cannot do that, then you'll need to use Odin in Download mode.
was looking for a speedier way, but I solved it already by using odin to install TWRP, which let me adb in, kill the install process, then sideload the latest nightly, solving the problem, which was caused by the cmupdate program allowing me to install an incomplete zip file. I am curious as to if there's a cancel install type button-press in CWM for this type of problem.

Naw, just used twrp and it let me adb in. After I fixed the problem, i reflashed my cwm touch recovery. May play with twrp again sometime, but i've always preferred the look and functions of cwm, mostly cuz I'm used to it, also had some problems with twrp forever ago

(OTA) T-Mobile Lollipop 4.20.531.4 Sense 6.0 Zip

This is the official 5.0.1 Lollipop (4.20.531.4) Sense 6.0 OTA for T-Mobile HTC One M8. (4.20.531.4)
Nothing modified. Just a straight copy. Enjoy!
If you just need the firmware or rom you can download the zip and extract what you need from it. It's pretty simple.
I'll try to get around to extracting everything and posting links for the individual firmware as well. Don't get mad if I don't get around to it though.
Don't do anything with this unless you know what you're doing.

Would it be possible to upgrade to this without having to flash back to stock first?

Going back to stock and flashing this is not that hard. The main thing is to have a stock ROM that is not rooted and the correct stock recovery.
So here are the steps I used via TWRP custom recovery. Note I was coming from 4.4.4 kit kat
- first you need to be on a stock t-mobile rom. I used my original backup.
- then I used TWRP to backup - note I made sure that compressed was not checked
- then unziped TMOUS-M8-3.32.531.2-Stock-TWRP.zip (which is located in this group just a different thread) and copied the files from this backup onto my backup replacing the files
- then I booted into recovery and restored this backup and at the end when it says that the backup is not rooted do you want to root? Make sure you click 'No' and reboot
- At this point I made sure that I removed any programs that relied on root xposted, greenify, reboot programs, etc. I also made sure that I had no root. I used adb shell then typed 'su'.
- At this point I then rebooted into recovery and made another backup (just in case) and then I went into the boot-loader.
- I flashed the 3.32.531.2 recovery (https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95897840722642978) via the 'fastboot flash recovery recoveryfile.img' command and rebooted.
- next up I downloaded the OTA via the about phone and installed and bingo you are updated.
hope this helps.

I dont have an original backup of my device, which is a rookie mistake I know. I just never intended to go back to stock.
Since my phone is going to be a work/personal phone I cant have it rooted or flashed with a 3rd party rom. Would this TMOUS-M8-3.32.531.2-Stock-TWRP.zip be ideal to use to flash back to stock on? This will also reset my recovery back to stock also?
Thanks

Not being an expert and all, flashing the stock rom will not set the recovery back. Basically you need to restore the ROM and then the recovery. I would like to add that the above worked for me, but I am researching a wifi issue I am having so take what I did with a grain of salt.
**update**: I ended up doing a factory wipe and now the wifi works.... oh well.

This command fastboot flash recovery recoveryfile.img, did you have to select any options or switches for it to work correctly? The reason I ask is that when I opened up a CMD and CD to the adp/fastboot folder I ran the command line and was given a list of switches/options to run it with.
Any suggestions here?

No, I just downloaded the recovery file, did 'adb reboot-bootloader', then did the 'fastboot flash recovery recoveryfile.img' (where recoveryfile.img is the actual filename).

I see, that is not the case for me. If anything I have the utility that can do all this, but that wasnt working for me either.
I guess I am just lost on this I suppose, especially since I didnt do anything but apply TWRP and root the phone, but kept the phone with the stock rom and not a 3rd party rom. I would figure killing the root and applying a stock recovery would be all I would need to do in order to OTA and be updated.
I have noticed each time I have flashed the recovery through the utility, I try to get in to the stock recovery and the phone acts as if it is not there and displays a red triangle with an exclamation point in it. I imagine this is an indicator letting me that a recovery is not present.
Any thoughts ?

That is what you would see if you go into recovery. To see more all you do is press both volume keys (up and down) at the same time and press the power button. Then you should see a menu. The stock recovery is not as nice as TWRP.
If you remove root that still may not work (and if someone else knows more please chime in) b/c when you root, it changes the filesystem. I am unsure what the OTA checks on so I would try your 'unroot' method, but if that doesn't work you may need to install a stock un-rooted ROM.

it looks correct, are you sure you have the file exactly typed out and also make sure you are the boot-loader screen.

I went into the supersu application and there was an unroot option that clears the cache, system, and modifies something. I also flashed the stock recovery back after your last comment, I have never owned an HTC Android device and wasnt aware that was a default. I am going to try the OTA and see if this works out. I will let you know.
I have always just reflashed stock recovery.... Made sure I enabled all of the apps I disabled (like bloatware or whatnot), and then was always able to update. I actually can't recall if unrooting was required.
But I do know that locking the boatloader is not necessary.

When you get the red triangle, hold volume down for a few seconds...you should get a log screen (although it may be volume up, I can't remember, try both)...it will tell you what is wrong.
Also, from my past experiences, if I didn't flash a new stock Rom (but just tried to "clean up" my existing stock Rom), I would run into problems because I had some app on the phone that even if I had deleted it, had originally modified build.prop... And that is one key thing the update checks before proceeding with install. So you have to make sure you have a stock build.prop file.
Anyone notice when WiFi is on 4glte icon is also on at the same time too just like kk4.4.4? It supposed to be when WiFi is on and 4glte icon should be off.

You need to rename the recovery file.
Avoid using '+' in files names.
If you have spaces in a file name, ALWAYS put a "quotation mark" around the file name.

Yeah, I try changing the sku id in ACC/default.xml to metro pcs, and other carriers it works but not good signal.
Okay, I have got APNs unlocked, root, restriction-free tethering working over IPv6, busybox installed, and a kernel with modified initramfs. Anyone interested in a nice simple debloated stock ROM?
