[Q] from CM11 to stock rooted - Sprint LG G2

Soooo I'm on CM11 M8 right now and I want to go back to a stock LG ROM (never thought I'd be saying that). I had to downgrade to zv8 to get cm to work, is there anything special I have to do going back? This is my 5th android device and like the 10th that I've rooted/tinkered with, and I've never seen such convoluted methods involved with flashing/OTAs etc. And I thought rooting my T-Mobile G2 (HTC desire z/vision/whatever) was a process. So yeah I just thought I'd ask before I flash this stock rooted zip. I've had to TOT this phone twice already and I don't feel like going through all that again.

Flash the stock VC rom (or VA), which ever you want, and then in the SAME session, flash the VC (or VA) radio. (DONT FORGET TO WIPE EVERYTHING EXCEPT INTERNAL )

Flashing a new recovery-help

hey everyone, I had clockwork recovery, which I wanted to get rid of. I got the stock recovery.img from htc vision wiki and flashed it using adb. but when i go to rom manager it still says current recovery:clock work. I cant even flash any alternate recovery in rom manager, because the option is not highlighted. I am just wondering is there any reason why i am unable to flash the stock recovery. Or is there anther recovery that I can download, and maybe try and flash that. Any help will be appreciated. thank you in advance.

RM might be lieing to you since that header is meant to show you what CWM you have installed and what the latest CWM is. Try booting into recovery from the bootloader and see what's there.

Pretty sure the OP is asking how to flash stock recovery or something other than clockworkmod.
My question is why? You don't have to flash newest cwm 5.X(you can flash older versions in RM) and there is a thread toget back to complete stock in dev section.
No alternate recoveries besides stock and cwm

thanks for the replies guys. no i flashed the stock recovery through adb. it sucks there is only stock or cwm. anyways the reason i was trying to get back to stock recovery is that i know gingerbread is already or will be available for htc desire z. and when it is rooted i want to upgrade to it. but i cant upgrade if i have cwm. and i dont like the modified rom people have. any ideas?
never mind, you were right. rm was lieing. crap my phone get factory reset. i wasnt expecting that....could have warned me -_- anyways i am guessing now i can update. btw if i update, then download clockwork. can i restore to my nandroid, which will have the 2.2?

It's already available for the G2 so it should be available for the DZ as well. Check the ROMs thread in the sticky, there's probably already a rooted version out that you could flash with CWM.

You can definitely flash a pre-rooted 2.3 DZ build when you have CWM recovery lol.

You have to unroot, get back to a fully stock setup, THEN take the OTA.
I have absolutely no idea why you would do this though. You can get any number of 2.3.3+ based ROMs, both stock and modified, that can just be flashed via recovery. You can be on the latest build and keep your root. Why go through all the hassle to unroot and upgrade when you could just keep root?

Not sure which apps youre referring to that aren't going to work in Canada... anything you use on your current ROM probably works on the 2.3 rooted Sense based ROMs lol.
The DZ is the G2 in the USA, and has completely different firmware. It doesn't have HTC sense. So you probably won't find many HTC Sense based ROMs that are "for the u.s." as you put it...
People like Virtuous unity. Its 2.3 based Sense with some Sense 3.0 flares. There are also a few stock pre-rooted OTA DZ builds out there. Go take a look in the dev section. If you like Sense, there are plenty of options for this device.
no i meant the rom that i will get has some apps that dont work in canada. anyways, what do you think is the best sense based rom with 2.3? post a link if possible. thanks.

I don't use Sense (don't like it) and I wouldn't wanna make a recommendation because I'm not very versed on them.
There are several options, I suggest you try them all and choose which you like. Lots of people like Virtuous Unity.

[ROM] HO!NO! P930 Bell Official V20e CWM-Flashable!

This is the Official ICS V20e from Bell
ClockWorkMod flashable
I did not remove or add anything this is really stock.
Enjoy!

It's rooted, though, right?
Thanks! Hoping to give it a try either tomorrow or Saturday.
Do you have to unbrick your phone in order for it to work? Like the other official ICS releases?
@RealyPssd,
If you have ever done the unbricking guide in the past, you're good to go, just flash via CWM.

yes for sure it is root
I haven't ever unbricked before.
Then yes, you will likely end up with a non-booting phone (but a still working CWM) if you flash this rom. I'm currently trying to figure out which partition the bootloader is on the Nitro HD so that we might just be able to give users like yourself a bootloader that will allow you to boot these ICS roms with CWM. Right now it appears the SU640 Gingerbread bootloader, which is flashed when you do the unbricking guide, is the best bet for this. It'd be nice if we could also get one of you guys to donate your stock Bell/AT&T bootloaders once we figure out which partition it's on.

The only issue with this is I'm not sure if it's safe to overwrite the bootloader using a method other than LG's tools. Or even if the phone will let you overwrite it using any other method.
That's very true, it's somewhat risky.
Flashing this on my phone right now = after selecting reboot in CWM the LG logo pops up briefly then I'm brought back to CWM automatically.
So if i flash with the LG tool it'll work fine? I'll just have to unbrick if i want to switch ROMS?
And if i unbrick now, this should work fine with CWM staying installed?
Just follow the 40 steps of the unbrick guide and all should be fine?
Which guide should I use?

Follow Malnilion's advice, unbrick first. I was in the same situation (logo-CWM sequence) until I unbricked.
Both guides work fine, only problem I had was rooting using ROOT.bat. Didn't work and
I don't know why. So i rooted using SuperOneClick 2.3.2 from Machzalet's guide.
After unbrick no problem flashing this ROM in CWM, everything wen smootly

I'm visiting Israel for a month and neither stock nor CM9 nor CM9 Full Throttle work here. The Nitro's frequencies are exactly the same as my GS2, but the GS2 works perfectly. There are several carrier networks here, each using a slightly different combination of frequencies, but the GS2 works with all of them and the Nitro with none of them. It works perfectly on AT&T in the US. It is SIM unlocked, of course.
Is this likely a problem with the modem? Will the ROM in this thread likely fix my issue because it's meant for Bell (presumably a non-American carrier)? Any other suggestions of what I can do to get the phone to work on a foreign (but frequency-compatible) carrier?
good job!!

Guide for beaup's S-Off?

Hi guys, brand new to the forum, member wise, but been using XDA site for years. Have had the Verizon HTC One since it was released in August and been patiently waiting for S-Off to be achievable. Awesome for Sonic buying a Java card and wish I could have sent mine to him but unfortunately did not have a backup phone to use.
I was wondering if someone could create a guide to complete S-Off with Beaup's mod? I don't want to brick my phone since it's the only one I have, so I figured this could be beneficial to everyone, not just me.
Thanks guys
If you follow his guide, it's pretty straight forward. It failed the first time for me because of either not having the stock kernel, or just a bad usb port, but that didn't brick my phone. It just didn't do anything. Tried it the second time and it worked like a charm.

ZV8 to ZVA Modified OTA (Flash in TWRP)

Thanks to everyone working on the OTA, such as Savoca and Autoprime checking the OTA status.
The ZVA update has a lot of good and some bad things. I've "tinkered" with Samsung OTAs before and gotten them to flash but there was always a problem with Sprint's Chameleon implementation on Samsung that caused things not to behave the same when flashing the modified zip.
Fortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case with LG. :good:
So here are two ZIPs for your use. Use at your discretion and as usual, I give my standard disclaimer: Your phone, your flash, your responsibility.. not mine.
Link to ZIPs:
http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.php?dir=Files/Garwynn Projects/LS980/ZV8toZVA
Why two versions? Both skip recovery and revert aboot image so that Loki can still work.
But during first set of tests I received an assert error on magazines.odex.
If you get this try the second one, in which I removed that assert and update.
If you get a build.prop assert error on the second you'll want to try and find yourself a stock version and flash again.
For me I had to do the TOT again to get it to work.
Now the other bits of information:
1) Both remove the device assert because TWRP doesn't use that model ID. So make sure you only use this on the SPRINT model.
2) I do recommend taking a backup before as I had some funky results after the update. One time system disappeared... another time took especially long to restart. After doing a second time it does seem to be working properly. So may not hurt to back up right after flashing the zip so that you have a good copy of ZVA to work off of.
3) You can stay rooted and you do not need to re-root afterwards. The first time I got a prompt from SuperSU to update the su binary, but not the second time. In either case root was not checked during OTA so you don't need to mess with it.
Any questions feel free to let me know. Again thanks to all and enjoy!
(Added 10:50 CST)
I want to also caution one thing at the moment. Those wanting to keep using AOSP ROMs should not flash ZVA at the moment.
At the moment it's causing a boot loop and several of us are trying to figure out what the cause is.
Awesome! Testing this now, I'll post my own results too.

Guide to Update to KitKat on a Rooted Phone

Hi All,
With all the threads about bricked phones, I wanted to take the safer route and outright ask for the best method to upgrade to KitKat on a rooted phone running 4.2.2 stock? I've already 'bricked" my phone once last year doing an OTA update, so I'm trying to avoid doing that again. The second post as you read will give information I thought a bit more clear on Sprint.
@#***This will wipe your phone as in complete. Nothing will be left of yours. So copy anything off internal [email protected]#***
Follow the directions, use ioroot25. Root.
If you want custom recovery.

Use auto-rec from above thread. Thank cloudyfa for putting that together.
If you reboot after and screen shuts off and you get white lines.
You might a well tot back to zvc and just root. @Cloudyfa on that same thread is working out the details to fix.

Thank you for the reply. I'll give this a shot tonight!
I have a question: I already screwed up and applied the KitKat update to my rooted G2 without thinking. It's now stuck booting to TWRP, where I was a moron and of course didn't create a backup at any point. Is there a way for me to sideload the ROM onto my phone at this point?
Any ideas?

Even sideload may not help you, if you can access down load mode. You might get to use tot, back to stock.
But there is no stock zvc yet for ls980.

Thank you for that suggestion. I was able to use Download Mode to fix my G2 and then OTA the KitKat update. Your post saved my phone.

I must have gotten lucky...wasn't thinking and took the OTA a while ago. Lost root but phone is fine.
Now...I'm off to find it again so I can get tether working

To the OP, can I ask which method you chose and how it went? I need to do this as well and I'm in the same boat as you (rooted ZVA with custom recovery).
Thanks.

I actually read a bit more and decided to hold off on the update. I'm happy with my phone's performance, so I really don't have the time to troubleshoot should the update go awry.

I'm the same way, but I figured that I should just go ahead.
So I'll throw that out, anyone pick one of these methods have a preference? I'm on TWRP, rooted, stock ZVA. Some mods including tether and camera. Thanks.
