Hi, I've noticed that my screen seems to have a warmer color tone to it, along with an slight overall yellow tint. You can see it best on light gray colors. I also had an AT&T model for a few days (returned) and that phone had a cooler, overall blue tint to it. You could really see the difference with the phones side by side. I've talked to friends with a AT&T and a Verizon version, they said their screens have the cooler toned blue tint.
So what tint is your screen, if any?
I'm wondering, maybe Tmobile just calibrates their screens for the warmer look... or is there something wrong with mine? Thanks.

Yes, but what was the screen tone before you did that?
OK... no one here today? lol
So I just went to T-Mobile store to compare, side by side... The screens are their demo phones actually looked worse than mine, almost a green tone to them and not nearly as bright. One thing for sure, they did not have the blueish tint to them, was more of a green/yellow. I'm beginning to think that since every carrier seems to have messed around with the software so much, they probably also adjusted the screen calibrations as well. I'm going to check at the Verizon store and another T-Mobile just to verify
Mine is t-mobile and bright white.. The nexus 5 had the same issue, 2 different screen manufacturers one with a warmer almost yellow screen and the other blue cooler feel.. I've been lucky with both my nexus 5 and g3 both are bright white screens and no yellow. You could try swapping it and hope you get a better screen.
Why with every new phone release this topic comes up? We know every screen's not made the same, some is warm some are cool.

Because when people pay $600+ for a new phone that's main feature is the screen, they want to make sure nothing is wrong with theirs.
Long story short, went to my T-Mobile store to compare to display models and possibly do an exchange. Compared side by side, trying out different stock wallpapers at 100% brightness. The two display models they had were also yellowish, but noticeably much more dim. Compared to an employee's phone, his was also yellowish and very dim. My phone looked good compared to all those!
Stopped by a 3rd party T-Mobile store on way home to see their display model. Not yellow at all, it had the cooler blue tone, but also much dimmer than my phone. Decided to go to the store where I originally purchased mine and compare to those... Both display models had the blueish tone, as well as the manager's phone - however, mine was still much brighter than all. So was going to exchange and we opened the new box... That phone was even more yellowish than mine and also much dimmer. Opened another one, just as bad! Those were the last two they had in stock, so they arranged for me to go to another store and try again.
Got to the other store, they got a new phone out for me - same yellowish tone and dimmer than mine. I didn't want to make them open every phone again, so I kept my original phone and left. The manager thinks they may have gotten an "off" batch maybe, and if that were the case, then every store in the area would have phones from this batch. He suggested that I come back in about a week when they get a new shipment, perhaps from a different batch, and try again.
So... out of 10 T-Mobile phones that I saw today:
- 4 had cooler blueish tone screens
- 6 had warmer yellowish tone screens
- My phone was brighter than all of them!
Not sure what to make of all this, lol... cannot believe the differences in the displays on this phone. And why is mine so freakin' bright?? lol... Is it a freak accident or did I maybe somehow get like a 2nd revision screen on my phone? Not sure... What do you all make of this?
I've noticed no tint on mine and it's plenty bright. I keep it at 60% and it looks great

Mine is good and keep at 40 to extend battery just a bit. When rooted and I remove a lot of junk I will be ok for whole day.
I also noticed that (see my reply in "screen problem" thread).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54262695&postcount=17
Open Google.com with Chrome (or stock browser) using desktop view to compare.
I used my Note 3 to compare (100% brightness).
The one has "reddish" tint seems to have more problem (dark screen, overly shaded fonts on standby screen) while "cool tint" one looks "normal". In addition, I found out cool tint one runs cool.
Nope no color tints

It's crazy how bad the differences are! There haven't been many reports of bad screens, but when there are, it's usually the T-Mobile version. No idea what's going on with their phones.

Some of the screens on the T-Mobile models vary wildly from phone to phone. If you have a good screen, then cool... but some of us do not and are trying to figure out what's going on.
ATT model I had was warm/yellow and also a little brighter. TMO one I bought yesterday is cool/blue but a little dimmer. I always prefer the cooler blue screens.

The reason not to buy warm tone screen one is such screen appears to have more problem (heating, overshadowing, and darker screen) than cool tone screen one.
Both were adjusted to same conditions (brightness, wallpaper) but the one on the left did not have data access.

I already set the brightness to max on both, and set no color adjustment on accessibility.
Even you may not be able to see the page, check out the soft buttons on the bottom.
In addition, I need to check the return policy if I get "warm" screen one because I mentioned above.
Related
Hi,
Ok first of all i know that there are other threads related to this thing, those threads defined the problem and many posts were speculations and wondering wither its hardware/software/glitch .... etc
As i was searching about this and saw the other members conclusions I wanted to start a new thread so any new member comes and read this and know exactly why is this happening to him/her, and wither its a real problem or not.
Desire's AMOLED displays have a big resolution 480*800 pixels,and have different sub-pixels arrangement in it, each pixel have "RedGreen" and the one after it is "BlueGreen" .... RG BG RG BG, .. etc, that is PenTile Matrix, while other LCD and "normal" displays have RGB RGB RGB, ... etc
for more info about this, click here
the pentile matrix looks exactly like this
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now the effect of this matrix is double edged, instead of having 3 sub-pixels in each pixel, we have 2 sub-pixels in each pixel, this saves power, precious battery power, but also this arrangement of sub pixels contributes to the issue somehow because the colors will not "look" exactly the way they are (the way the RGB matrix show it, which is used in most of our displays like TV, PC, LAPTOP, ... etc), there will be slight difference due to the screen "approximation", and that difference is NOT noticeable in most cases, only in few cases where the solid colors intersects with each other.
see the posted screenshot of Gmail app with the gradient color near it
see how the color picker identified the gray color, .. and how close it is to the pink, the pink showed due to the display approximation of the color.
and most importantly see how "photohop" saw the color as "not a web safe color" and see how it showed in the small square the pink color!
photoshop detects this because it knows that if an "approximation" happens than this will be displayed as pink.
And not only that, photoshop suggests that you put a "safe" color, and it shows "pink" instead of the gray as a suggestion!! why is that?
To find the answer, look at the circle in the color gradient board, you will see that this "gray" is nearer to the pink than it is to the actual gray!!!
and here we are seeing it pink on the Desire's AMOLED devices, what a surprise!
Now notice how the upper bar is dead gray, and does not have any pink in it, that is because its "GRAY" is not close or near any other visually-different color. and of course photoshop identified it as "SAFE for web", and that even if an approximation happens, this will still be rendered as gray
the good news is, it will NOT be noticeable in most of the cases, because most of the colors are not gray scaled and not "visually close to the human eye" to other colors, as you can see from the gradient color posted there are many "safe" grays out there, ... but google had to choose that gray that is near the pink
Now the bad news is, that this is NOT an android software problem, it is a hardware (display/calibration) issue.
but does that mean it cannot be solved "indirectly" by software? .... not sure, am thinking of what if Android created a layer where it picks each color and see wither its safe or not, .. if its not safe than do an OS approximation for that color, if its "gray near pink" change it to "gray" and pass it to the AMOLED as "safe color". not sure how that would be implemented or what is the weight and impact.
but as i mentioned before, if apps stick to "safe" colors, this will insure that even if an approximation happened, nothing will be noticeable
------------
UPDATE For people who think that the issue is from the browser and not from the AMOLED display that has PenTile matrix.
here is a screenshot from Android SDK emulator with the same browser as in Desire (WebKit)
here is a screen shot of the original website from the PC, using Google Chrome browser
and here is a screenshot of the site taken directly from HTC Desire (the site has been visited from the HTC Desire and a screenshot was taken and transfered)
Its pretty clear that the browser is not the real issue (even though it has some slight very slight pinkish hue), the pinkish is alot worst in the desire than what is the emulator and the screenshots show
-------------
UPDATE
After seeing the below pictures (thanx onkolog for posting those pics!), one can conclude that this "gray shades to strong pinkishness" issue is definitly not a general AMOLED issue.
People reported that in Samsung Galaxy, and Legend (Both AMOLED but not PenTile matrix) have slight pink viewing the htc.com site, but it is nowhere as pink as found in the HTC Desire
HTC Desire:
HTC Legend
as the pictures shows clearly that the legend (which has AMOLED display with normal RGB implementation) shows the Gray as pretty Gray (not as pink as the Desire).
here is a pic of the Desire & Legend side-by-side with the HTC website shown
(thank you ohyeahar for this shoot). the Desire has more pinkishness than the legend, the legend seems fine but some people said that it also has some slight pink (not as desire though)
as you can from the photo and as ohyeahar stated (having both devices, legend and desire) that its not a real issue, but its there if you really look for troubles you will find it, otherwise normally you wouldnt be annoyed from it
EDIT: some people have pink hue all over the screen, not only particular apps/colors, .. IMO this just your device, and you should replace your device
EDIT: I used web-safe colours as a technique to show how the colours might look different due to screen approximation the web-safe colours is not designed to detect the approximation of the Desire's AMOLED accurately, it is designed for web approximation due to compression, but they are similar some how, in terms of that colours are getting approximated and changed sometimes to the nearest possible colour thats why i used it.
the "web-safe" approximation only appears when an image is compressed for web standards (or approximated in case of the Desire's AMOLED), .. some images are not compressed for web use, you see the the HTC.com page gray on your monitor, and i see it gray on my nokia e75, but it looks pink in the Desire's AMOLED because the display of the desire (and i suspect android too) approximate the colour, and i used the web-safe colour technique to detect that (even though that this technique is not dedicated to identify the Desire's AMOLED approximation)
Thanks irkan for that. That goes a long way to explaining why we're getting this pink tint in the same screen when we can also see pure grey.
So, now, what can I/we do ... should we replace our Desires for new ones or not? I suppose there is no harm, just the inconvenience of setting it up again ...

as i mentioned in the last line, if you see those damn pink tints every where, than most probably your device is faulty, but if you only see them in GMail app and some few other occasions, than its just the display.
but you know what, if you still feel unsatisfied just go and replace it, setting up a new phone is a pleasure with the desire
It is quite disappointed ... I meant, the AMOLED and Pentile Matrix are suppose to improve battery life, but in fact the HTC Desire battery life is not that good.
Sure, it is not terrible. However, it is not satisfactory when you read from users testimony here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653496
And I hate seeing that pinkish color
Oh well, my first Android device ...
The battery drain from the screen is somewhat dependant on what you are watching. If you are displaying an image with lots of different colors, areas with black and so on, the screen will not use as much power as an LCD-screen. But if you for instance use a spreadsheat in excel or word-doc. where most of the screen is bright white, then the screen will use more power than an LCD, since it has to light up all pixels, whereas the LCD only has a few backlights.
As an exampel from a QVGA screen; black text on a white background would eat up 3W, white text on a black background would only use 0,7W.
So in real life, there might not be that much gain in powersaving.
Given that the HD2 has a 12% smaller battery and 35% more screen area than the Desire but similar battery life, I don't understand why the Desire needs an AMOLED screen that can't accurately reproduce some colours and doesn't have a true 800 x 480 resolution (more like 392*653 if you read the article linked in the first post).
seriously am i the only one that doesnt see a big difference here? i can hardly see the pink tinting. maybe if i look dead close to it i may see it but as long as its not soo obvious i wont be replacing my device.
nip picking springs to mind but anyways OP thanks for the information though.
I've just canceled my pre-order, no way I'm getting a device with a screen that distorts the colors.
This reminded me of the nexus one screen analysis made by Display Mate.

Yes i tried and it looks better on my desire actually. the colours are more warmer and sharper then on my TN dell pc monitor.
it is a tiny bit pink on the desire but its hard to tell because generaly TN panels are NOT accurate reproduction of the true colours.
matter of fact, OP did you try viewing that screen shot on a IPS panel monitor?
You guys do know TN panels do not reproduce accurate colours right lads? compare it to a ips panel and i bet you it is the same colour reproduction as the desire.
before slagging off the desire for having tinting issues, check it first. go to a apple store and use there mac to browse the htc website and see for yourselfs
Not slagging off.. Just want to make sure it is correct before I except it.. When i say it is pink i mean not far off the pink of this smilie . It isnt a faint pink which you can just pick out... It is pink.

Hello everyone. Right below the notification bar, there is a tinted area going sideways. This appeared about a week ago. Only the display is affected, this doesn't appear in screen shots. The quality is not so good but sharp eyes will notice it. Anyone had the same problem? Any ideas what should I do about this?

Hi! It's probably screen burn in, common with amoled displays, I had it quite bad on my old phone. Caused by spending a lot of time on the messaging app, in which the part below the notification bar was grey, and the rest white. Brighter sections of the screen age faster.
I assume you use your phone in portrait mode a majority of the time?

I spend much time on tapatalk and yes in portrait mode. After reading your response my eye caught the bright blue bar of tapatalk 2s stock black theme. Probably that bar caused this because the screen is so dark with this theme but that blue bar.
But this shouldn't be taken as user error right? I think I should get a replacement screen as this phone has been in my hands for just 6 months. I'm still in warranty period.

It's not an error, amoled screens age this way, it's quite normal.
I understand it's quite frustrating, once you see it, you can't unsee it.
Especially in just 6 months of use, I noticed this on my old Galaxy S after a year, and realized it was because I was on an AOSP rom for a few months which had white messaging with a grey bar.
They probably won't replace the screen, either saying there's nothing wrong with the display.
No loss trying, they might be nice enough to give you a new display! :good:

Agreed, 6 months doesn't speak much off the quality.
I considered it too, but Samsung devices always have Amoled, and I like Samsung hardware, even though a lot of their devices are faulty, including mine.
The LCD is one of the main reasons I like HTC hardware, better color tone.

Samsung Korea replaces panels for free if they can see a burn in. People there get quite worked up about this issue on amoled displays so Samsung does replace them quietly. Heck there's even people who leave the screen on blue (apparently the best colour for getting burn ins) and get them replaced on purpose. Not sure about anywhere else though. It's worth a try visiting a Samsung service centre if you can find one near you.

Hey, that's good news. I'll try talking to a center when I get time. Thank you very much.
tip for you guys. this issue with amoled screen is a common issue. you can check you note 2's screen burn by doing this test, open the Phone app and type *#0*#, check colors Red, Green and Blue (blue is most commonly affected). Note 2 is my 3rd smartphone with AMOLED screen for me. the first 2 phones got screenburned big time, but I took extra care of this one. it has a little screenburn in the notification area but you can hardly tell the difference even when testing it with the test I mentioned above.
here's 2 things to avoid: exposing screen to direct sunlight, keeping screen to full brightness al the time. better luck with next amoled screen.

Thanks for the tip. Good to know that there's a way to avoid this. I use this phone as a navigator when driving so it must have gotten a great deal of direct sunlight. I'll keep the flip cover shut when not using the maps now.
Thank you all guys.
Is it just me or are the whites really yellowish? I have the G2 and going back and forth between the two you can really see a difference. I wounded if a cm build will fix this?

No, it's more slightly grey for me. Also, I have a tiny patch needed the bottom which is always too bright. It shouldn't bug me but I'm annoyed every time I see it!

I think the white color depends on the screen brightness. It gets "closer" to white the bright it get but still not white white like the G2....

I had the same thing on my first tab, returned it and the second one was ok.
Well, it doesn't seem to me yellowish, but, as Ultraman1966 said, a bit grey-ish. Compared to my ZTE Grand X IN, to be honest, the ZTE has better colors and brightness...
I see the upper area of the screen (portrait) slightly yellow, the rest is white.
and a little 'light bleed at the bottom (portrait). I notice it only when I stop to look, in everyday use do not notice it much.
But it annoys me, I'm a perfectionist, send it back to receive one with the defect of the blue line or another ... it is not the case.
Sometimes I think of selling it if it comes out the LTE version.
This is what I mean both are 100%:

Based on the photos the color looks more accurate on the tab, but there are too many variables to base an assessment just on that. Sure, it looks lower temp so more yellow than blue, but which is right? Color balance is a weird thing since context means more than anything when it comes to how we process things.

I prefer the look of the G2 screen personally. It doesn't mean one screen is "better" just means LG saturated the colors differently. I am excited to see if CM will make it more "actuate" it seems both are extremes a neutral color will be nice.
FYI I tested out an app called "Filter Your Screen" and it make my colors a lot better... like night and day difference

I'm having the same issue. I just got my G Tab today and I can't believe how bad the screen is. Everything looks like its been soaked in piss. I have got to find a root app that can adjust the color or its going back. It is way to warm. I can't believe the reviews didn't mention this. I have attached a pic with the Nexus 7 2012, G Pad and kindle fire HD. The G Pad looks horrible in comparison.

It seems like the rushed it out or something... I had my hopes high with the screen quality and all reviews seem to praise it. I wonder if it is us G2 users who really notice? Or maybe the model we have? I don't think it is the screen itself, just the way they did their saturation...

I agree. It is definitely a temperature and saturation issue. All of the colors are over saturated and too warm. Hopefully there will be a fix.

I saw that, It took toggling it before it started working but I am happy. Yeah mine may be a little over at 33 but it is fine for now
I requested an Rma through newegg today because of my screen. It was very yellow in comparison to my g tab 3. However,the main reason I returned it was a very noticeable line of spot near the top of the screen in portrait mode. In landscape mode it moved to the left hand side which was even more noticeable. It was a slightly wide line which showed more of a yellow spot, not a tint.
I was a little disappointed with the tint because frankly, when it's beside the tab 3 the screen is 30 percent less brighter and yellowish. It's almost like running flux on my desktop. I'll be getting a replacement unit next week or so, so I'll keep you guys posted. I checked into best buy to see if I could review a display unit for the screen but none were available on display.
I compared my screen to some review videos on YouTube, and my screen looked noticeably yellow overall.it might be that only some units are affected.:highfive:
I just received my LG G Pad 8.3 from Newegg last night. So far, it's been a great experience. Looks good. I bought a Tab 3 8.0 during a sale at Staples last week, but when I saw the Cyber Monday deal on new egg, I jumped on it.
My question is this : After running a few processor oriented programs ( Antutu stability, etc ) , when I open up a browser tab ( white background or something similar ) I notice a yellow thin line (not a single line, however.. its a little thick) at the top end of the screen ( towards the front camera ). It is much more visible when I use the tablet in landscape mode ( when the screen rotates - and the tint shows up on the left hand side of the tablet ).
Is this normal? I can feel the heat under the screen (it is warm under the tint area) but, the tint is visible and its noticeably yellow. I do not see the blue line as some of you have mentioned on the forums.
I am not sure if this is much of an issue, to require a return. But, I just want to make sure I don't have a tablet which has a screen issue. I noticed it last night while using it after an hour of use, so I think it's visible for the most part (because someone else did not mention it to me )
Does anybody else have this issue ?
Also, compared to the Tab 3 screen, the screen has almost a 30% decrease in brightness. E.g The tab 3 at 50% is equal to the screen brightness of the LG pad at 80%. Lastly, the screen does seem to be pretty warm (color K) in comparison to the Tab 3. I don't know if that is necessarily a bad thing, but I did notice that while doing a side by side comparison of the two tablets.
Any info on the above issue would be greatly appreciated :laugh:

Unfortunately, due to my account being new, xda does not allow me to upload links or images. I've searched around the internet and I've read a couple of posts where people say that once the adhesive or "some other material " eases out on the screen, the tint slowly goes away (possibly a week or so) It is noticeably yellowish (color wise) in comparison to my Galaxy Tab 3. I'll keep on using it for the next week or so and see if the problem persists or declines.
I'll post pictures once my account reaches the link-free level. :good:

I don't see it either.
RMA'ed the device through NewEgg for a replacement. The screen looked very yellowish in comparison to some review videos (posted on youtube). In addition, I wasn't able to ignore the yellow line on the screen while viewing it on white backgrounds.
I'm disappointed with the brightness and color reproduction compared to my Tab 3 8.0, but since I paid a fair price for it (249),I'm keeping the device. I'm hoping the replacement device will be better than the first unit I received through NewEgg. I've read several varying posts on the screen. It seems to me that there are units with an overall yellowish tint on them, whereas others do not have this issue. My desktop monitor (HP zr24w) has pretty good color reproduction, and in comparing my unit to the unit being reviewed on screen, my device had a much much warmer screen overall.
It was very similar to running Flux on my desktop at 3800k. None of the reviews not mention anything about the screen being so warm. Once I receive a replacement, I'll update the thread. If the problem is isolated to certain devices, I'd advise a replacement or return.
Looks like I have the same problem with my G Pad. I have a yellow patch at the top left of the screen and bottom right also.
Seems to come and go depending on usage, so I assume it's heat related?

The photo makes things look vastly worse than the way the human eye perceives the difference, but there is no denying that the cast is significant.

I only had a quick glance at this thread but I too get a yellow tint in the top part of the screen when the tab gets a bit warmer.
Within ten minutes of watching full hd mkv the brightness also throttles down.

Appears to be quite a common issue. Returned my 4th lg pad today for this reason.
Will be gunning for the sammy 8.4...
Great idea by LG, very poor execution
4th one?????
That's just crazy and a shame because else the tab is really nice.
Ok...
I think the "yellow tint" may have something to do with the adhesive. Quite sure the Display is glued to the digitizer. I had may tab on and stressed for a few hours. You can see the discoloration on almost any background. Even black, just couldn't capture it in a photo.
Has anyone had the tint go away after some time?
This is the same tab after sitting in the fridge for around 5 minutes...
I would hence say it is a hardware issue and not software or kernel related as some suggest.

In your experience, does it go away with time?
I really loved the tab save for that bit...But if it stays like that forever, well...
It definately seems temperature related. As soon as the tab gets warmer the blotch/tint appears. When the tab cools down it goes away.
I don't know if it is some residual adhesive that has not dried/hardened out during manufacturing.
I still have a few days where I can just give it back, so I will be looking into it.

Such a beautiful device giving us so many problems...4 LGs. I don't think I have it in me to go for a 5th one..
Such a nice tab ruined by the screen. Never ever LG again. Unfortunately bought of private seller who didn't keep receipt (new and sealed) and lg doesn't stand behind their product.
From my experience: HTC - yes, Apple - yes, Samsung - yes, LG - warranty not transferable.
Avoid like a plague.

There is somebody working on that fix for your version now. Probably know something more in a week or so.
That would be nice but still won't be buying LG product again if they don't change their policy of transferring warranty to another end - user as other companies does.
As it looks like a batch of defective units they should respect warranty repair of product that has just been introduced and is well within 2 years warranty

I have been noticing that when I am looking at darker solid colors they sometimes appear to have a slight gradient to them. I know this is an AMOLED panel, so when a true black pixel is displayed, that AMOLED display pixel should appear completely black (as in, NO light is emitted). This is one advantage to AMOLED panels. So even at 100% display brightness, a true black screen should appear OFF.
So I created some test images in Photoshop to see to see how different shades of black and near black appear on the screen (I tested tones from 100% black to dark gray).
From my test, I found that my tablet does in fact turn completely OFF when 100% black is displayed. BUT my panel actually appears to have a slight backlight bleeding problem (Edit: Mura Effect).This is only noticeable when I am viewing colors that are very dark (but not completely black) and consistent. Also, It it's only visible in pretty dark rooms. I am not sure if I am going to return/exchange my tablet out yet.
I thought I would share my process for others to try to see if this is a common problem first...
Here is a Dropbox link to the files I made to test the problem:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/wtfuazfn7i7z09o/AABvbRuA7-MUx_tF7xmmGSfAa
Method:
1: Open link up in the Dropbox app on your tablet (file sizes are full screen). Or feel free to download the files to your tablet and view them in the gallery app.
2. Turn screen brightness to 100%.
3. Make sure you're in a DARK room.
3. View files on your tablet at full screen.
Image 1 should appear 100% black (your screen should appear OFF). Image 1 is NOT going to be the image that will make Mura noticeable. Image 2, 3, 4 and 5 should start to appear slightly lighter as you scroll through the images. Watch out for inconsistent shade gradients like you see on my examples below (this is what tells you if you have Mura effect problems).
Here are what my results unfortunately look like. As you can see, image 1 does appear completely black (don't mind the reflections in the pictures). But the effect is pretty obvious on images 2 and 3
What are your results?

well first of all seeing my screen on full bright but appearing to look off was pretty cool. also on mine i did not have a bleeding problem and they all seemed to have a solid difference with nothing visible to my eye.
i have the 10.5 and had to put in portrait mode to gett full screen.
thanks
Well technically your super amoled panel cannot have backlight bleed because there is no backlight. What you are seeing is referred to as a mura effect and should not be happening with this advanced of a panel. It has been confirmed that some of the 8.4 units have defective screens. On my 10.5 unit all dark colors look solid with no mura effect at all. Here is one of your sample images on my screen. Of course if you view this on your tablet you may see the mura effect. View it on your PC.
No 'bleeding' here either.
I have a T700 (8.4) and have just testet you pictures, - mine also have some Mura Effect, however not as dominant as the ones you posted here. I can see on this link here that it unfortunately seams to be an issue on most of the units -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/help/users-feedback-want-to-buy-8-4-t2834969

Exactly this. Some people have waayyyy too much time on their hands, I don't know how they manage to live their lives if this sort of nothingness is enough to trouble them. What exactly are you intending to do with this tablet, color time a Hollywood movie?
Must be a real killer for some people every time they have to change channel on their tv, I have to wait 0.4 seconds for the next station to come on. It's terrible.

It actually is pretty noticeable even at 25% brightness when you're just using the tablet normally. Now it doesn't show up everywhere. You can see it pretty easily in the notification shade and in the settings menu. Or when you open up Chrome with no tabs, that background is not perfectly solid and I notice it every time. You can also see it on darker full screen photos too.
Still not sure if I care enough to exchange it. Although, I am very picky about image color representation as I am a photographer and this panel on AMOLED Photo mode matches my calibrated monitors pretty well, but that dark gradient just bothers me sometimes!

Is yours also the 8.4 version?
3 I work with all have the 8.4 (T700) version myself included. All have visible Mura effect at normal settings. Samsung run an ad campaign here in Denmark, where you can buy and try for 30 days one did an exchange - but same result, visible Mura effect - however under normal working conditions is not a big issue.. Bur as a still photo viewer I understand your point.

Yes, I have the 8.4 inch version. If it really is that common, I may just keep it. It does bother me, but overall I am happy with the tablet and am happy with the battery life. Not sure I want to chance getting a new one it it not being any better...We'll see though.

These are the conditions to make it easily noticeable. I on my hand did notice the issue on regular use of the tablet:
- First noticed it while reading an e-book, the tint of the background was not homogenous.
- Then I noticed it while browsing the tablet options: "huh, the gradient on the background is not regular.. oh wait, it's not supposed to be a gradient".
- And now I notice it while playing movies, when the scenes are dark.
100% brightness is not a requirement for it to be visible. Actually, minimal brightness while in the darkness works very well at revealing the issue.
However, it is extremely unlikely that someone ever notice the issue while using the tab in daylight. In my case, I use it mainly in the darkness, and often get to see it.
Damn you OP, mine got it too...anyway, it isn't really noticeable with most content so I just keep mine since it seems very common anyway.
That's defective. You guys should not be satisfied at keeping it like that. I have no such effect. I'd take it back if it were mine. I didn't pay $600 for a tablet to have a defect like that

I don't know if it's defective, but if it is it's a defect that affects most AMOLED screens and all of the Tab S 8.4 I could test it for (3 of them). My Galaxy SII is affected as well, so is my PS Vita. And my friend's. And his Note II.
I returned my unit twice, once through the online store and once through the physical one, all of them suffered from Mura effects. Either I am utterly unlucky, or a large amount of the tabs are affected.
