I bought the k400 keyboard, and seems to work pretty good, but I can't figure out how to left click (select) with the mouse on my fire tv. The obvious mouse button on the keyboard doesn't seem to do anything. I thought I remember seeing a post somewhere about having to use a different button for mouse clicking, but can't find it anywhere?

left click is working for me in apps that support a mouse.. maybe your app isnt mouse worthy?
Figured it out... I didn't realize the mouse function doesn't work on the main screen, but does on most apps.
There is in fact, four ways on my K400r to left click since Android hates right clicking.
The K400r is an update to K400 with Windows 8 control design, and the best part by chance is that it might relate to the ARM version of W8 as well.
The four ways are the top left button, left mouse click, right mouse click, and tapping the touchpad.
At least using "Complete Linux Installer" to run ubuntu 13.10 SMALL on my Fire TV proves that right clicking is fully functional on a Linux Distro.
Some VNC apps do not have support for right clicking, but bVNC does.
I need help getting Linux Deploy setted up so I can test the better refresh rate compared to VNC's choppy refresh rate.
Wouldn't it be hilarious to run Android within the linux vnc while Android is already being used on the device?
I can't find a damn armhf based Android runner for Linux, what sense make not!
How are we supposed to reverse engineer Android execution if there is no application for using it directly on Linux armhf?
I would figure that you would just mimic the original method, but using the Linux GUI in a window.
The reason I am so determined to get to this point is because Linux armhf lacks adobe flash player altogether while Android still has the last version.
Is there an old version of adobe flash player for armhf Linux,or can somebody miraculously port the Android Flash to Linux armhf?

A friend has apples multi touch pad for his macbook and it works really for general browsing/videos etc (that with a kb). I have been trying a few, none really allowed pinch to zoom. Does anybody know if its possible?
While searching, I found one called idisplay,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09RTD_2bRaA
it extends your win7 desktop to your phone, then you can use the phoens touch screen to move around!
why use your phone as a mouse pad when you have a keyboard and mouse dedicated for your pc ?

Because sometimes its nice to be able to shut the pc down from bed
and yes im that lazy. I have my tv hooked up to my pc and i use remote
droid to control what im playing on the tv or even vlc remote.
Remote droid has the touchpad but i dont know if its multitouch.
at home my pc is hooked up to my hdtv, so when sitting on the couch my mouse doesnt work so well. I could buy a new mouse, but after using the magic pad thingy I was thinking it was much easier to move about websites and click on episodes/movies. Im not saying I will get rid of my mouse, just certain times it would be easier for me.
So far, the sonar mouse works best (anybody else?), but I think it eats up the battery.

i dont even need to touch the damn thing.
Also do you know about remote notifier? to get all your phone notifications
from your phone on your pc. thats good too if say youre phones downstairs.

Hi everyone.
Maybe somebody can help......
I use Nova launcher on Ouya.
On Mk802(rikomagic or android TV) left click on the mouse ran the program, right click the mouse close the program, the middle mouse click caused the program settings.
Said about the external set (keyboard + mouse)
It was very convenient.
On Ouya that the left is that the right that the middle mouse click does only run applications.
Is it possible to fix it?
No one can help?

Have you learned any information about this yet? I just ordered the same remote, but the MX3 model with voice button/microphone.
I read there is a Kodi add-on called Keymap Editor, but I would like to know how to program other buttons for my TV and Nvidia Shield Android TV box.
Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

I dont know if this will help your situation but theres quite an extensive gui keymapper addon for kodi called keymap editor, pretty good when i tested it at the time, you can have the same key perform different functions depending on where you happen to be in kodi i.e. homescreen, addon, video playing etc etc

That keymap editor didn't work too well in my experience.

I have an almost identical remote (slightly different colours seems to be the only difference -- see here). It's fantastic once you sort the button issues out. The back key problem is that it's not recognised by any keymapping application, so do what I did, remap the menu key to back instead. I rarely use the menu key and I'm rooted and have LMT Launcher running with a pie menu button anyway so it's there on the rare occasion I do need it. But I use back all the time. I used this application to remap it and it works perfectly.
As for the Mediaplayer button, I'll look into it tonight.
does the voice button on the remote work for nvidia shield?
has anyone tried it?

Hey, I have the same remote as you. I'll give the remapping a shot when I get home today.
Curious, did you also have issues with the large select button in the middle of the remote? I can mouse all over the screen, but I can't actually select anything. Did you have to remap that too?
Thanks.
Hi guys! I wanted to point out that i made a comment on a post here on this remote:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tv/general/mouse-click-behavior-t3290739/page2
Unfortunately I just cannot figure out how to configure the mouse button, aside from messing with code in the kernel itself. But I noticed some of you are looking for a keylayout for the remote. I have the version with the microphone, not the internet explorer button. Im not sure if its the same but you can try reading my post and have a shot at it. good luck!

I have the version of this remote with the voice button. it works on the shield but the issue is that it doesnt work in the same way as the voice button on the remote/gamepad. you have to manually select the voice button on screen, then when the beep for voice, hold down the voice button on the remote and say what you need to say. the voice button essentially opens and closes the voice channel on the mic on the remote. I have not seen a way to tie this as an actual keycode, and i think the remote might not even register the button as a scancode either. so i dont think you can simpley press or hold the button to have it automatically open the voice bar on android tv.
Hey guys! I have a 1st gen Fire TV- not rooted. I have been on the prowl for the perfect remote for my fire TV. I want it to use with a web browser (Mouse and Keyboard), Control my tv with IR (Input) and soundbar with IR(Volume and input). I have even tried universal remotes paired with my TV's CEC input control and that works, but no home button.
That being said, i have found a few that come so close to working perfectly, but they all seem to have 1 major downfall that is a deal breaker- specifically the navigation buttons not being mapped correctly with the Fire TV.
For reference and what ive tried:
http://amzn.com/B00U3PFUAC Back Button does not work.
http://amzn.com/B00RCWF1NA Home Button Does not work.
These are exactly what I want to be a truly universal remote with my Fire TV but with 1 fatal flaw and i can't root to modify the mapping. This is what im trying next: http://amzn.com/B012BZU3KS , http://amzn.com/B00HNLFYP0
What are you guys using?

Just out of curiosity, why is rooting off the table? I just ordered a Mele F10 Deluxe 2.4GHz Portable Wireless Air Mouse/Keyboard. It's supposed to be ideal, but requires a modified keymap.

I haven't been keeping up with development for the first gen for a while. Last I checked, there was no root method available for my software version. I didn't think things had changed. Are there new root methods available?
I've got two Fire TV Boxes (one new 4k) and on both of them, I use the stock remote for Kodi interface and this keyboard/touchpad for everything else. Works flawlessly...keymaps are perfect and it was inexpensive.

Sorry, I'm new/clueless. I've got a 2nd gen and assumed that any first gen could be downgraded to a rootable version.
I use the flirc with my harmony remote it works great. It also happens to be on sale until new years. www.flirc.tv and http://www.amazon.com/FLIRC-FL-09028-Universal-Receiver-Components/dp/B00BB0ETW8/ for the direct amazon link.
It emulates a usb keyboard and can be used for other things as well, you can program it with whatever IR remote you have laying around and if it's a universal like a harmony it can be part of your normal home theatre macros.

Wow! This is something I've yet to think of. Do the menu and home and back buttons work? What is the home button for the fire TV on the harmony? Thank you for the idea!
EDIT Actually I'm new to the harmony and i just have the basic bare bones Cheapy one. Will this work with it?

It will work with any remote including a cheapy harmony. You program the flirc itself to respond to whatever remote you have and you can program the output keys.
for home button here is a thread on the AFTV2 home button mapping: (title says not working but they found the combo: Left-windows key, left-alt-key, and Enter key)
http://forum.flirc.tv/index.php?/topic/1987-amazon-tv-home-button-not-working-with-harmony-remote/
+1 on the flirc, if you want an IR solution
I use a regular universal remote (from my STB) and the flirc can be programmed for any button to be mapped to the aftv remote, because my goal was to simplify some rooms to 1 remote only.
Works flawlessly, but remember to use a usb cable to place the flirc over the AFTV or you may not have line of sight (I bought some cheap usb extension cables)
With the flirc app I setup the home button without issue on both kodi/xbmc and the FTV...I don't recall having issues
The newer harmony hubs work perfectly as well since they are bluetooth and already have the mapping, but much more expensive.

I actually have mine sticking straight out the back and never have any problems. And it's sort of right behind my TV. It really just depends on your remote and room layout I think.

same here, it's super sensitive, they even recommend pointing remote away from it and bouncing the ir off a wall when programming so it doesn't overdrive it. It's about as close to RF as you'll get with an IR remote.
Flirc for the BIG win. Wife approved.
I thought I was pretty good at googling, but I cannot find a way to use my MacBook keyboard to enter text on my firestick. Maybe controlling the pointer with my trackpad is asking too much, but using my Macbook keyboard would be great. Yes, I already have a Bluetooth keyboard I can use with the firestick, but I always have my MacBook on my lap, and it's a PITA to balance two keyboards on my lap.
What I need:
– No rooting
– Works with Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8
I can't believe that there isn't a web app or APK that lets me do it simply, because there is for my Roku.
