all of the car docks i have seen for non idevices have very short windshield mounts. are there any windshield car docks that have extensions to get them at least 4 inches long?
and if there aren't any, what tools would i need to use to modify a car dock from griffin that was made for the idevices?
How's this? I don't see any specs but it looks maybe about 4" judging from the scale of the screen size of the phone

Has anyone gotten the audio out functionality of the Samsung car dock working? It has a sticker over it stating that audio out will be enabled when 2.2 is released, but I was hoping some of the other 2.2 releases would have support for it now.
I have the oem car dock. Running nero v3 and I can't get it to work either. I can't understand what is missing from the custom 2.2 roms that wont allow this to work. It should be similar code that the tv out uses. Because the audio comes out of the mini usb port with the tv output also right?

Audio and video work with the TV out functionality when using a micro headphone jack to RCA cable. I tried it with a headphone jack to video/audio output cable that came with a old camcorder. Are you talking about a TV out cable that plugs into the micro-USB port, if so I have never seen one like that.
I have a ~$10 Chinese ebay car dock, and it works perfectly. Ive used it in a vw jetta, toyota sequoia, and a merc e350. no problems. I have an aux in wired to the phone, and power as well via a car charger. audio comes through speakers, and nero v4 has phone calls come through speakers too, and the phone is close enough that people can hear me even if a window is down.
will psot pics later if you want them

I bought the samsung car dock, and i can say that its pretty kick ass. Although its a little frustrating that the audio does not yet work for it, it still is a nice piece to have.
Unfortunately it does'nt seem like any devs have been looking into this. Perhaps its just not very popular yet, but Im keeping my figers crossed that sooner than later it will be sorted out. either by our great developers, or just the release of official 2.2

You could look into a Bracketron custom vehicle mount. It screws into your dashboard so you can add a more permenant mout. I bought one from Quadratec for my Jeep when I bought my G1. It is awesome!

So I just got my Verizon SG3 and I have the Infuse 4G car dock which everyone says is working wonderfully (It fits perfectly!). I have two problems however, and was wondering if anyone could help me troubleshoot.
1. The stereo output does not work. I have the phone on the dock in my car and when I plug an audio cable in the output on the dock it does not work, when I plug the cable into the stereo jack on the phone it does work.
2. Only a car outlet adpter to USB jack will work to charge it. If I plug in my dedicated car charger (not coming from a USB port), it will not charge the phone.
Any help with these two small issues would be awesome, thanks so much!

You have to go into settings-»dock to change the audio output.
Also, it is a very tight fit. Make sure it is all the way plugged in to the dock. I would recommend using the headphone jack on the phone however. I find the dock audio output to be somewhat noisy when using the audio out on the dock. Ymmv.

What do you mean noisy? Like cause the power input is right there? Is there a buzzing?
Yes, buzzing. I had the samsung droid charge dock and it was the same way with that phone. Maybe its a samsung thing.
Changing the audio out option in dock settings should have fixed your issue with the sound. No clue why your dedicated charger isn't working other than maybe not enough amps......just a guess there.
As for the noise/buzzing issue.......could be a grounding issue with your car or the cables aren't pushed in all the way. I used this dock for a good week and it sounded perfectly fine. The only thing I changed was the EQ settings in whatever app I was using. I'm using poweramp now with the EQ turned off and it sounds great.....no noise or buzzing. My JVC deck does all the EQ fine tuning it needs.
I ended up disassembling the Infuse dock and pulling the PC board out. This has allowed me to keep my case on my phone. I am using the exomount holder and just ran a microUSB extension from the PC board to the phone. So far, everything works great. In fact, just ordered all the same parts again last night to do the same setup for my Dad.

Here you go.
I do need to add that today I did notice some background noise at the end of a sound when it was fading out.....that was the first time I ever noticed anything. During regular listening, I don't hear anything. This may be solved by adding a ground loop isolator.
Anyway, here are the pics. The first couple are of the pc board from the infuse dock. The others are of the mount and cabling. The last is what the Google Car Home screen looks like.I moved things around and put the camera, messaging, and poweramp apps on the home screen.
Let me know if you have any questions.
the_buzz_man
By the way, the case I have on there right now is the Diztronic Matte Black TPU case. Waiting on the Otterbox Defender.
The wires you see on the second to last pic are tucked under the dash....I pulled them out to show how they were connected. The PC board from the Infuse dock is wrapped in electrical tape to keep it from coming in contact with anything.
That exogear mount was put in place a week ago and it shows no sign of coming loose so far.....really am impressed with it.

Thank you, this is nice because the case can stay on the GS3 all the time.

Is your phone rooted, because I can't install the Google Car Home. I miss that app since I had the G2 before the GS3.
This might be a dumb question and i don't know if someone else knows the answer. Can I root my phone and still keep the stock ROM (The one it ships with)???

I am not rooted. Though the play store shows it is not compatible and won't let me install it, I was able to do a Google search and find a copy of it. It doesn't show up under apps after it is installed. But, once you plug in the dock, it will give you the option to use it.
I don't know if it is proper to put links to files such as this (even though the app is free), but do a Google search for "download google car home apk" and the second choice (droid-life) is where I got it (alt-link).

Got it, Thanks!
Is there a benefit to having it plugged in and being in dock mode as opposed to using card dock ultra(ithink that is the name) ap to just make it go into dock mode? I got the infuse dock, but didn't realize I couldn't use a case with it. I'm new to all this stuff.
Is there a special cable I have to buy to do what you did?
My husband seems leery about doing any of this stuff, but our navigation head unit just went out in our car, and I want to use google nav in the car safely.

I replied in the other forum. As for the cable.....if you do what I did and want the phone to switch into car mode, then you would need a microUSB extension cable that uses all five wires.
I wasn't sure if you are wanting to output audio to a deck or if you just want to be able to charge and have the audio come from the phone.

I was wanting the audio to come out of my car speakers.. using the aux option in my car. Hope that makes sense.
The app I have is car home ultra. Right now I'm having to plug 2 cables in so I get why you did what you did. One cable would be alot easier. I definitely need to get rid of the infuse dock or do what you did and use a different dock though because I hate pulling the case off. I'm just trying to decide if I should send the dock back altogether or do what you did. My husband said he'll do it if I know exactly which cable to get.
Thank you for your reply.

This is where I got the cable from. It uses all five wires which is what is needed to trip car mode. They have many choices. I am using the right angled one. I have used both the 24in and the 6ft one, both have worked fine.
I just got my Otterbox Defender yesterday and it fits fine in my mount. I must say that this exomount has thoroughly impressed me with how well it holds.

Hi all,
I'm looking for a Bluetooth car audio receiver that is specifically compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S3. The reason I say this is that I have tried several receivers that my friends own and while I can pair and play music with them, if I turn bluetooth on and off, I then have to go into the Bluetooth settings and manually connect to them again.
This is very cumbersome. I am looking for a receiver that I can pair once, leave in the car and forget about. My aim is to use tasker and an NFC tag so that whenever I get in my car, I scan the tag, the bluetooth turns on, automatically connects to the receiver and music starts playing.
Hence, does anyone know of such a receiver. Specifically, I do NOT want to have to turn it on/off. I want to put it in my glovebox and NEVER touch it again after the initial setup.

That is a deck. Not a receiver.
My car deck is already really nice and has an AUX. I'm not looking to change that. I'm looking for something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Britelink-Blu...781329&sr=8-9&keywords=bluetooth+car+receiver
I first bought a Soundfly that has a built in fm transmitter but the gain was way too low, so I returned it. Then I bought this: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004CLYJ2I/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00 and it works perfectly since I have an aux input and cig lighter power adapter hidden in my center arm rest. That's what I recommend, bit pricey, but worth it for me.

My AUX line in on my car is hidden in the center console along side a built in USB charger, and not really wanting to string a cable across to my mounted phone, this is what I've been considering. It's $70 though so I'm sure there are a few cheaper alternatives like what you linked to.

Forget the HTC stereo clip. I would go with the Samsung HS3000. There is a thread about it in the HTC evo 4g lte accessories thread. I have two and it's great. You can get them with some decent samsung earbuds for like $30.
I'd try the HTC one. It does support Apt-X that the GS3 also supports if you care about sound quality.
Perfect. I read about the samsung hs3000 and they seem to be exactly what i want. Ordering one tonight.

APT-X is supported only on the HTC One X and Samsung SIII so far, AFAIK.
It gives you HD quality sound via bluetooth. MUCH better sounding than A2DP bluetooth from what I've read.
I'm waiting for MFG's to start making car stereo's with the technology.
Currently there aren't any decks that have it.
Hmm, sounds like it may not be the solution you want though. A poster in this thread says he has to turn on/off every time he gets in the car.
Actually it sounds like this device has more than one "issue".

If you're gonna get the HS3000, there is a version of it that supports Apt-X as well, BHS3000. Sometimes it's just listed as HS3000 though so it's kinda confusing.

I think it is not the solution for your problem...for example in the car how you supply it?
Hs3000 stay always on? if yes when battery is discharged you have to remove it and charge it?
In user manual I read that you cannot use it during recharge.
Like you I would a Bluetooth car audio receiver that I plug in and forget, without recharge each time...anyone can help me?

You can plug a headphone jack into it, use a RCA->headphone cable. Then you just need to power it using a USB cable. I added an extra cig socket behind my dash wired into the original cig adapters power leads. Got a USB charger adapter and plugged it in. Starts when the car starts, off when the car is off.
I know this thread is old, but I had the same dilemma. I needed something small, auto-connect on car start, could be charging and listening at the same time.

I looked over this thread and am shocked nobody has posted this solution. It is so freakin cheap compared to the competition and works just fine. Most bluetooth receivers I see costs $50 and up....this one costs $14-$18 and comes with all the accessories needed. I have 2 of them (one for my car and one for home). The one for my car I've had for a year already with no issue. The charge on it lasts about 4-6 hours before needing recharge. Honestly, take a look at this guys

Thinking of connecting this to my home receiver through RCA aux. Can this be continuously plugged in to a power source and still transmit the music or is it a situtation where you have to charge then unplug then connect to stereo? Hope that make sense. :silly:
Bit shocked some things like the Belkin bluetooth handsfree kit has not come up.
Belkin on Amazon
I picked up one of these, and it works better than anything I have used so far. I normally HATE Belkin for sub standard crap, but this thing has lasted longer than anything. I also picked up for 15 about to be sure I got good audio a ground fault isolator. I highly recommend you get one if the device that connects to the aux port also connects to the car for power. So unless it is battery powered I would get one.

Unless Im missing something, is there not a way to plug the S3 into the USB port on the radio and charge it and play music right through the USB like an iphone? When I had my iphone I could just plug it right into my stereo and it would charge and play music. When I tried the AUX on the iphone it did not sound half as good as when using USB directly, so I assume the S3 is the same and want to use the USB if at all possible in a dock would be great. Of all the things they claim Samsung "copied" the iphone on, this is the one they should have. Its the only thing I miss or like better about the iphone than the S3 so far...
At the moment my plan B is to get a dock to charge it and then have to get something like a Samsung HS3000 as well, but even with Apt-x I cant see this being as clear and loud as using the USB
This forum moves WAYYY too fast...
Android will have this in Jelly Bean (4.1)... Android Open Accessory Protocol 2.0 supports audio out.
Alternatively, there is a specific Galaxy S3 feature: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754102 that works in car mode...

Ya the infuse dock doesnt use true usb connection, I dont think its possible to do this at all yet is the issue. I also dont like that I would have to take the case off the phone to use the dock so its looking more like I will have to get a dock that will fit with case on, use regular charger, then just use BT and deal with it...I hope JB will let you use the USB like the iphone at some point. But maybe the new apt-x is better than I know as Ive not used it.

I really doubt this will work for your nexus 5, but a search on ebay found this to be the closest to what your asking for:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-B-USB...Phone_PDA_Cables_Adapters&hash=item5d40faf05b
If your car at least has aux output, then you can either use a usb car charger as well. plug the audio into the aux port, the usb into charging port, and then the micro usb into your phone. The ebay listing states specifically for certain phone models, nothing even close to a nexus though. But for under $10, its worth a shot.
I have a USB charger and aux port but means two wires annoyingly. Does nexus 5 support audio out via USB?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
why not use a bluetooth audio adapter which connects to the AUX port if you have one, i have no wires anymore to my phone , i use the OWL Carpad Qi charger (i have some issues right now but seems like hardware issue) and i use a Belkin AirCast Car Audio Wireless Bluetooth AUX Music HandsFree Kit, i normally wanted to go with the Kinivo BTC450 Bluetooth Hands-Free Car Kit but thats no available in my country .
So i go into my car just mount the phone in the car pad were i also use a nfc tag to enable bluetooth and turn off other stuff, and start the engine, now my phone gets charged then I press the belkin and i am connected and music is playing , i also use it now as my handsfree because i am absolutely fine with the quality.
For USB audio you will need a car stereo that supports audio over USB. I suggest looking into Bluetooth. That's how I do it and I love it.

Try them out, that is what I use and I simply plug the usb cable into the GROM Audio box, then into my phone, and enjoy music from my phone and charging as well.
For the dock, I just use the InfiniApps Slyde Magnetic CD Slot Mount($25 on Amazon)
I tried with my old GSII car dock and it's not working.

Does the Grom Audio box USB cable audio streaming works with the Nexus 5? I'm considering buying it but searching around I'm not sure it works with the Nexus 5.
