[Q] Cyangenmod 11 Help! - Sprint LG G2

Hello,
Ive attempted to install CM 11 M8 SNAPSHOT (the most recent) with a compatible GAPPS package. Im using TWRP 2.7.10 and I did a full wipe (Formatted Data, wiped Dalvik, System, and Cache, basically everything except Internal Storage). I flashed Cyanogenmod, then flashed GAPPS, rebooted and got stuck into a bootloop where the LG logo would be there for a few seconds, go away, then come back and repeat. I know how to recover my phone but I would love to get CM working. Any ideas?

Did you take the Sprint OTA update before you flashed CM? If so, you'll have to downgrade your radio from LS980ZVA/C to LS980ZV7/8. This is because the ZVA and ZVC updates patch Loki and break compatibility with other ROMs (like CM). I had this issue and tried flashing CM probably 10 times before I understood the problem.

Okay makes sense, but wont I lose Spark speeds from the downgrade?

You will lose Sprint Spark compatibility if you downgrade your radio to anything lower than ZVA. LS980ZVA introduces the Tri-Band spectrum (which Sprint nicknamed "Spark"), so if you're radio is below ZVA, you won't have Spark.

Damn, cyanogenmod or spark :/ decisions decisions.

I went with CyanogenMod as I don't use Spark often. But if you're in an area with good Spark coverage, that's definitely a hard choice.
Personally I literally don't have coverage at my house. Sprint gave us an Airave as a customer retention policy. But I would have 4G LTE at my college campus.

My data connection at home is hit or miss, the ROM I use says I have Spark but idk the difference of when Im on Spark or LTE within the ROM, also I dont think I actually have Spark in RI so that may be leaning me towards CM instead. LTE is good enough. Do I just have to contact Sprint and tell them I have spotty connection to get an Airave and is it portable (college, unlike yours, has TERRIBLE Sprint service)? If so CM is a definite choice.

You would have to be in a "No Service" or "Off-Network Roaming" area according to Sprint's Nationwide Coverage Site. Where I live is an "Off-Network Roaming" area. When we moved here we got an email from Sprint about not having coverage. If, according to the site, you have no signal at your house, you should call them and ask about it.

No, it connects to your router/modem via ethernet cable and has an antenna that sticks to a window to provide GPS and phone coverage.

The following may not be true! I believe that Sprint's Spark is LTE. But I don't know much about the differences between CDMA/GSM/3G/4G/WiMax/LTE/Spark/Edge/etc. so don't take that for granted.

Ill just give it a shot! If I lose LTE with the old radio Ill just flash a stock ROM. Probably learn a few things on the way. Thank you for your help! Final question, can you point me to a radio downgrade guide? Kinda hate fishing through forum threads.

Yeah no problem. I found that in order to get the radio to stick I had to reset the phone using the ZV8 TOT file and LG Flash Tools. If that is the case I can help with that. Otherwise check out this thread. Savoca wrote a fairly good tutorial on getting ROMs working on the G2 and what all the different radios are/do. If you follow his directions and can't get CyanogenMod working, you'll have to restore to a TOT.
Glad to help!

While I'm pretty savvy with windows, this is my first android product. I have my LG G2 LS980ZVC rooted, and I want to install Cyanogenmod 11. I have the nightly from yesterday downloaded to my PC.
As I understand, I need to downgrade my software to get rid of Spark.
1) Which version should I downgrade to?
2) Where can I find files like that?
3) Should I back up my current setup before I do?
4) The FreeGee software says it doesn't support ZVC, and so I am unable to install the backup software through there (I was trying to follow this youtube tutorial [turns out the url is prohibited before I post more!]). If I should backup, what backup software should I use instead?
Once downgraded, I need to install cyanogen mod. Can I follow that video tutorial? If not, then I'm going to end up asking a lot more questions.
That thread you linked has a whole lot of red letters saying I don't belong there unless I already understand a bunch of stuff I don't. So how do I learn those things?
Cheers!

Okay, first things first, unless you're pretty experienced with Android and CyanogenMod, flashing, etc. I would not recommend using a nightly build. Nightly builds are great for getting every possible update as soon as possible, but as an update is made (and released on the next nightly) other problems may crop up. I would recommend using cm-11-20140708-SNAPSHOT-M8-ls980.zip <-- That is the direct download link.
For future reference, I would suggest using versions from the Release Channel as those are considered "stable."
Now that that's out of the way, let's tackle the next issue.

Yes, you have to downgrade your software/radio. I used LS980ZV8, it's the latest Sprint release before Spark. If you'd prefer to go one step further back, you could use LS980ZV7 (the first release).

I got all the necessary files from Storage Cow. The .TOT files you need (I'll talk about those later) are in XDA > LG G2 > Stock > Sprint.

Download Flashify from the Google Play Store.
Download this recovery (TWRP)
Put the recovery on Internal Storage
Open Flashify
Select Recovery Image
Select the file you just put on there
Follow on-screen instructions.
Note: I am assuming you have rooted your LS980, if you haven't let me know.

Touche about the red letters, good point. Yes you can probably follow the video, but if you want I can help walk you through it. The main reason I linked that thread was so people could try to get an understanding about what the radios are and why it's such a PITA to flash non-AOSP ROMs. Hope this helped, feel free to PM me.

Alright, I'm downloading the LS980VC8 (2.1Gb) and the snapshot you mentioned. Since I live in the boonies, that 2 gig download will take all day.
How did you chose that snapshot? I looked at the LS980 downloads and filtered by stable, and nothing came up.

Well that's dissapointing :/ I was so excited to be able to use it still. Guess its back to stock again.

As far as I know you *have* to have the ZV8 radio. But maybe not. I trust that you backed up your efs partition? If so try restoring it, that could be the issue.

It should be in your ioroot foler. The latest version of ioroot automatically backs up your efs data (imei and modems)

I rooted with towelroot so I didnt have an ioroot folder. Besides I had already restored back by then. Can I use TWRP to back up my EFS?
EDIT: Nevermind, a better question is how do I RESTORE my EFS? Do I flash it right after Ive flashed the ROM, Kernel, and GAPPS?

your gonna have to wait till either someone makes a odin back with a stock rom or makes a stock rom you can flash via recovery.
EDIT: did you make a backup?
this reminds me of the following youtube video:

Can you give a link to the firmware you flashed? It'd be useful to know if it contained a modem and/or kernel (or not.)
If it contained a modem, you'll need another modem. If it contained a kernel, you'll need another kernel. We have those. Regardless, you'll need to talk someone into getting you a system image (someone that has the same phone as you and has already rooted.)
Also, do you have CWM recovery installed? Is the existing firmware (as trashed as it might be) rooted? Can you use adb?

I know you won't be happy with this, but until an ODIN image shows up, you're kind of out of luck. If someone you know has the same phone, you could ask them to do a backup to an external memory card, and then you restore that backup to your device. Assuming the modem wasn't flashed when you installed, that would get you back into business. If a modem was flashed, you'll need to get someone to extract a modem (and I'm not sure how to go about doing that.)

Does your phone work now, with the exception of connecting to the mobile network?
Are you familiar with adb? If so, are you able to get a shell via adb?
When you plug your phone into your computer, are you able to copy files to/from the phone?
Which custom recovery do you have installed? CWM recovery or TWRP?
Is your phone rooted? (it probably is with a custom firmware - assuming the phone works at all.)

i rooted my phone through this:

donno if i successed,,, but it has a superSU on my screen after I done it,(guess it count as rooted?) and I may used the TWRP

now Im back to my old Iphone 4
I updated that post. Basically, I can't think of anything you can do right now.. until an ODIN dump is available - or if someone gets you a backup you can restore. However, a backup won't flash the proper modem (and it appears you also overwrote the modem.)

Perhaps - perhaps not. Until one actually flashes from the other, we don't know. (Many will tell you that they've done it with a different phone model - my answer to that is simply that it was a different phone model. Until its tried with THIS one, we can only guess.)
I think the biggest stumbling block for you right now is the modem. We have a stock kernel and recovery. A "near" stock system partition image can also be made from another device with a simple command. I have to be honest, though, that I have no clue how to extract the modem from these LTE phones.
A recovery (and kernel) can easily be flashed with ODIN (or with dd from a rooted shell.) Same for the system partition (which is, basically, the OS.) Getting a system image might be annoying, as you'd need to find someone with a roger's phone to make it for you, upload it, etc.
The modem, however... I'm not sure how to go about getting that for you. I've never had to create a modem image...
If/when a ODIN package appears, you can use a program that will, basically, reflash your entire phone to stock. Modem, kernel, recovery, bootloader, etc. Everything. Normally, users wouldn't see those ODIN packages, but there are a couple of websites that have access to some samsung servers where they a put. Once they are put there, we can get it...
Take care

Looking forward to this remedy as this is the reason I am jumping from att Galaxy S 3 to the note2. Want my international dev community back!
Unfortunately so far down here in Southern Florida Miami beach there is no white Note 2 anywhere.
For those that have the ATT version of the Note 2, if you've mistakenly flashed the ROM, I highly suggest visiting your nearest AT&T Device Support Center. Since I've previously worked in those centers, they have a propietary Samsung flashing tool that allows them to flash to the stock ROM, even if it's rooted. Granted they'll be able to tell if you've rooted it or not (which may or may not void the warranty, depending on who you talk to), as long as the phone can turn on and go to firmware recovery mode, the flashing works almost 100% of the time and it's a free service.
However, as I got my Note 2 yesterday, I've contacted my nearest DSC and they said that they don't have the ability to flash the Note 2 yet and they may have that ability to do so in the next few weeks or possibly by the end of the year (if you can wait that long). Being that the associates are just corporate drones, if they can't fix it, they'll more than likely replace your phone under warranty (which I don't suggest since the replacements are refurbished, and besides you should be within the 14 day return period for a new phone).
Sorry if it doesn't help the ones who have the Rogers versions.

[Q] Flashing ROM on a Boost Mobile SGS3 - Receiving Installation Error

Hello Everyone,
Please excuse me, I am a noob here. I recently purchased a Boost Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3, and I wanted to flash a new ROM onto it.
It was my understanding that the Boost Mobile and Sprint versions of the GS3 had the same model number, and therefore were able to be flashed with similar ROMs.
I have gotten this far: - I was able to root it, confirm that it was rooted, and installed CWM touch recovery v6.0.1.2. But when I downloaded a ROM (for example - TheCollective ROM), I am receiving a "status 7" error, the same error that as on this page - http://highonandroid.com/android-roms/how-to-fix-status-7-error-with-cwm-recovery-on-rooted-android/
After following the instructions, I tried to reflash the same ROM and now I am getting an "installation aborted" error. I couldn't find anything that would work on it. I would be really greatful if anyone can guide me to solve this.
Thank you for your help.

Sprint could have blocked this from happening very easily since Boost runs off of Sprint's towers. Im not gonna guarantee it, but you could try to downgrade your radio to something like LG2, then try to flash a custom ROM, then upgrade your radio back. What baseband does about phone section say you have?

As I did my research, it was some kind of a major bug on this series of Sprint M8 phones with breakdowns in mobile data. However, since I can not get any updates, the problem perists.
I tried installing custom ROM's, but so far ARHD 22 didn't even boot and LiquidSmooth couldn't detect the SIM card at all.
I know there are quite a few tutorials and "how-to" threads explaining all you need to know about RUU, cusotm ROM's, etc. However if someone could tell me what exactly to do and in which order (return to stock, then update?) I would greatly appreciate it.

Easiest way to get it back to stock is just flash the Sprint H/K RUU. You can download it from HERE. Just run it and connect your phone when prompted and follow the instructions (I'd probably change your CID back to the Sprint one first to be on the safe side but as you're S-OFF it shouldn't be needed). You might also need HTC Sync Manager installed. If so, you can get it HERE
This process will wipe the phone completely so back up any data first but other than that you'll at least be back to stock and then troubleshoot any issues from there
Thanks
Many thanks to everyone.
Any chances of loosing the SIM UNLOCK when going back to stock completely?

Why not 34? Lol Sprint is up to date on its software you could just update to the lollipop firmware, and I could pull some of the files I've got to see if I can help you get it running, I'm on Leedroid right now so the process should be the same for ARHD.

Sorry if some of my questions are a bit dum, I just got from a long trip and have been out of this all rooting busines for a while...
Do i need to install a new stock firmware from Sprint with Lolipop to get the 34 runing?
I have been told v34 won't be working with this software I have right now on the phone.

You can or you can go to the Sprint android development and flash the updated recovery since you are s-off and it'll permit you to flash lollipop roms without many issues but there is still the files that need to be modified for ARHD to work correctly like the boot.img and a few others.

Power+vol up for about 15 seconds then power+vol down to get into recovery. You cant flash it unless you swap out Sprint specific files otherwise you'll get what just happened or boot directly into boot loader.
Like I mentioned I can pull the files together and see if I can get it working for Sprint tonight when I get home but until then flash either fluent Rom or stock if you want lollipop or just flash bad boyz if you don't mind kitkat

For me, the biggest issue is the mobile data breakdowns... I know I read somewhere a while ago it was an issue with some Sprint M8 models. I would like to get everything working w/o problems since it is GSM unlocked, and via QPST I unlocked all the bands.

Also, I just found some official EU RUU's with different radio's as far as I can tell from the filename.
Maybe that could be the final solution to all the problems?

[MODEM]/[RADIO] [20B] TMO D851 LG G3 Lollipop Only

I was having a problem trying to find the modem for my D851 here on XDA. There were many plainly listed for D855 and other models of the G3. I am using Paranoid/ASOP 5.1.1 Rom and I accidentally flashed a D855 radio. Rookie mistake, I know... And thought I backed up the modem along with the system files. Well I didn't and lost my imei, apn, signal and all... So while searching and again not obviously placed easy to find I read a thread and found one, flashed it, and it returned everything to normal without having to flash back to stock rom and blah blah blah... From what was listed, this for L 5.0 and up.
1. Boot phone into recovery, preferably TWRP
2. Flash the modem zip DOWNLOAD: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xz26z91hej9ryz3/LGD851.20B.MODEM-iNb4TMO.zip?dl=0
3. Reboot
I didn't make the radio, nor take any credit for its creation. I'm just trying to make it easier for T-Mobile D851 users on Lollipop to find incase they have deleted or lost theirs like I did...
I am not responsible for any issues or problems that may be encountered by using this.
I hope this help those in need like it helped me... Please let me know...
Im currently having a major issue with the lollipop update. I had my d851 with t mobile and I wouldn't lose lte when I would make a phone call... I currently switched to metropcs and now when I make a phone call I lose lte and my signal drops to 4g. I tried everything... APN, restoring the phone, called metro like a thousand times and nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Flashing the 30D modem seemed to help quite a bit, the signal will drop to 4g while you're on a phone call but the data is alot faster. Give it a try, it worked for me.

Well, I went camping over the weekend and of course the phone dropped service again. The cell signal was weak and the data was almost non-existent. Luckily I brought an old phone, re-activated it, and was good with LTE signal. My question is would flashing a different modem help? I have the LG-D851 with SW version D85130e so I assume that has the 30e modem. Is that correct and would the 30d modem be better? Thanks.

No idea. Could be something else (mechanical) causing the issue. 30e is the latest for our phones. You can also drop it down to 30d & see if it is any better.

That's what I was hoping to do but was trying to see if there was a way to just install the 30D modem instead of loading the entire phone with the older SW version and having to re-install all of my apps. I downloaded the modem file but after doing some research I couldn't figure out the procedure to install it. I saw a few videos about a TWRP recovery but I prefer not to root my phone. If I have to root it in order to get it working then I will...I just wish I could figure out what the issue is. I saw a few other people mention issues with the LTE setting defaulting back to WCDMA/GSM (which I experience) and they said the 30E modem could be the issue. The phone was just wiped clean a few months ago before I bought it from the previous owner.

yeah without having root, your options are limited. If you own the phone, I would say go for it, if you are leasing it, then take it back to where you got it & tell them it's reception sucks.
I own it and bought it second hand. According to the previous owner he didn't have any issues with it but who knows. I assume if I root it and load the 30D SW I will have to load everything from scratch? Is there an LG backup program for this phone? Thanks for the help.
Restore from SD card
From any home screen, tap Apps.
Tap Settings.
Scroll down to 'DEVICE,' then tap Backup & reset.
Tap LG Backup service > Backup & restore.
Tap Restore from backup.
Locate and tap the SD card backup.
Tap Next.
Review the warning information, then tap OK to confirm.

I have the TMo version (D851) & the first thing I did was root it & install a custom ROM to get rid of all the Tmo crap that is stuck onto it. ugh! I don't use my phone all that much for calls, mostly emails data & music playing, so losing the stock Wifi Calling function wasn't an issue for me. Currently on the OctOS Nougat weekly builds, tremendous ROM, great battery life fast & smooth & decluttered. Since you already own the phone & do not have a warranty, you've nothing to lose here. Do some reading in the threads on how to do it, you'll be very happy once you see how much better your phone can be. You put on it only what you want to put on, less junk, less memory hogging.

US998 to LS998 *Sprint LTE + Root*

If you mess up your device I'm not responsible, it works for me, and for others. I will help as much as i can, but it is on YOU, the user to follow the prerequisites and read carefully. This zip was created in collaboration with @TxanMoe and myself
This zip can be used to return to the stock rom(for the most part, you'll still have fastboot, root, twrp) as long as you can get into TWRP recovery on the device. It also flashes the modem bands needed for working Sprint LTE(bands 25,26,41, ect.."all the Sprint bands")
Prerequisites:
1. Activate with Sprint first if you intend to use the converted US998 on Sprint!
2. You already crossflashed to US998 if not follow the guide here "Frankenstein method" [https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg...sflashing-t3780969/post76510671#post76510671]
3. You followed the bootloader unlock, root, TWRP "WTF" thread here https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/wtf-lg-v30-t3790500
(US998 to LS998) Downloads: (Sprint LS998 system, boot, modem)* MAKE SURE TO FLASH MAGISK, NO-VERITY OPT ENCRYPT, AND RCD DISABLER BEFORE LEAVING RECOVERY!!*
Sprint 20b

Sprint 21a(may security patch)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JCalyu7mt8DW6wMWbgGViqj0oi9eUSr7/view?usp=drivesdk
*Instructions*:
a. Make a backup in TWRP of system, boot, and data before proceeding!
b. Reboot to TWRP and wipe data (factory data reset)
c. Install the SPRINTLS998.zip (20b or 21a)from TWRP (Do NOT leave recovery yet)
d. Flash Magisk, no verity encrypt, and RCD disabler(you should already have these files if you followed the WTF thread)
e. Reboot
d. Once booted up you need to connect to WiFi. go to settings, update profile and prl. Reboot

@JWnSC thanks to the help of some of you great people in this thread I have had the chance to do this conversion twice now. Both times it worked great but I did have to update the APN settings before getting mobile data to work for me. I know you were kind enough to include screenshots of the right APN settings but I just wanted to share that both times I used the ##SCRTN## dialer code to force OTA provisioning and it worked, so I thought you may want to add that option to your first post. Might be a good option for someone that's in hurry to get connected.
Only negative I can think of is that you would not have tethering unless you were subscribed or you manually added the "Dun" provision to the APN later.
Just wanted to share in case you thought it was worth adding to your original post. If not, no biggie. Thanks

Yeah...it sucks we need this...sprint not allowing access to kdz is a load of bs...it is much appreciated that we have you helping to support us sprint users...i am looking back at my past lg phones now to see if i can find the process of creating a working kdz...one of the people i think in the g2 or g3 forums actually created a kdz using the untouched signed lg files and it was fully flashable to get back to 100% stock...i don't know if too much has changed since then to do this again...but it would be nice to have for some...me...i won't be doing anything that removes my bootloader unlock and root...but those with warranty may want to have that ability...thanks to all that have contributed to making this a great device...i missed root on a level people outside these forums may never understand

Bootloader would still be unlocked but the message after every boot would disappear and you won't be able to enter fastboot. (After you do the system update)
I thought after installing the latest update it would lock the bootloader...it didn't, but it did remove the text after every boot saying to lock bootloader and you won't be able to enter fastboot after. Activating developer options will show the boot is still unlocked. It does change the software info to LS99821a instead of US99820a
To lock the bootloader, you could probably flash the other Sprint zip(without flashing magisk ect..) and just sprint recovery or the factory zip. Reboot to bootloader from twrp and lock it that way. Then do the Sprint system update *I have to do more testing tho I don't recommend doing this until it's tested*
I have followed WTF thread for my Spring LS998. I have also flashed the modem.bin. I have working LTE on US99820a. I went to try and update PRL and Profile but clicking the buttons does nothing at all. Is this common? Also, i noticed that text messaging are received intermittently. They come in, in bunches, but only immediately after I send out a text. has this happened to anyone else?
I'm assuming if i flash the SPRINTLS998.zip, it will correct this issue, but I don't want to if there is no need and there is a fix. I want to try out DotOS, but don't want to carry my texting and MMS issues over from my current U99820a setup.

You can't update profile/ prl on US998 firmware(or at least I couldn't). Backup your setup and try DotOS if you already have working lte. This thread is mainly for users to get lte back. I'm not running the stock Sprint firmware. I switched to stock firmware first to get lte working and switched back to us998 rom.
If you wipe data and flash the SprintLS998.zip you won't have any issues. It already contains the Sprint modem, system, and boot. No need to flash the modem from the other thread.
Will flashing the sprint zip only have bands 25,26 &41?? I'm in an area with band 13 also.. Thanks.

If you flash the Sprint modem you'll have all the Sprint bands.
It's just the US998 does not have LTE bands 26 & 41. So you have to flash the Sprint modem to get them. If the LS998 normally has LTE band 13, then you'll have that.

I tested the latest update, it installed. I dumped the modem, system and boot from it. I can make a zip from it later. My bootloader was still unlocked tho. I plan to lock it and test..been putting it off, don't want to get stuck on stock haha. I need my phone this week. I'll test this weekend. After the latest update it removed the bootloader warning and I couldn't enter fastboot but the bootloader still showed unlocked under developer options.

Not worth it imo...I was testing the factorysprint.zip to make sure it worked. I can make a flashable zip later(to only include system, modem,boot)..I don't think much changed. Looks like it was just an update to disable fastboot and access to recovery

The first time I tried the profile and PRL updates they took a while to actually launch. Not sure if yours would if you just waited a bit longer (like a minute). I would try that and then the Sprint zip (that's actually more likely to fix your issue).
