Install any file explorer and save the custom ringtone in your sd card. Then goto changing your ringtone option, and there, you should be prompted to use File Manager or Android System, choose File Manager, browse to your custom ringtone and choose it. Done.

[Q] how to add a new sound for the notification and SMS

I tried to add some new sounds for notification but I failed the ROM RCMiX v2.2 no with "root explorer" as I've worked at some other ROMs. Does not allow me to system> media> audio> notificaton any necessary audio.
whether there is any other way to set your own tone for SMS as the primary?
Hi there
You can try to create "media\audio\notifications" folder structure on your sd card, and put your notifications there.
It might also be useful to use "SDrescan" app to rescan your sd card for new media files.
Later you should be able to find your sounds in notification select dialog...
Worked for me on CM7.1
I managed to "Root explorer" sound copied to the system / audio / notifikation so I took the market application called "mount / system (rw / ro)" new tone but does not appear in the list to select a message tone. I will try to reboot it might appear?
thanks for the advice I hope that at least some of this work.
Did the rebooting help?
Try to follow my previous post this should be a simple and working solution.

[Q] How to set custom Notification sound?

How do you set a custom notification sound?
If you use zedge and download notifications it should sort it into the correct folder then when you change it in sounds you should be able to select it. Or put your notifications into notifications using a file browser. Or it might have to go into media-notifications.

On your Memory Card or internal storage, make a create a folder named "Media", inside it another folder named "Notifications". Put the notification files you need inside it. Or it might even work without the "Media" folder, just a "Notification" folder.

Change built-in file manager?

I would like to change default file manager but it seems that some links to it are hardcoded in LOS so for example if i uninstall it and replace it with fx file manager some
apps can't access it because they are calling to that default one which is not there anymore.
Any tips on how can i replace it, or where can i change those links to default app?
The default file manager that you were using has the package name "com.android.documentsui", and you generally see it when you have to choose a file for an app. Only here has it been turned into a full-fledged file manager. That was a system app that you weren't supposed to remove, so your only option is to install another file manager app alongside the default one.
Hi i'm with the same problem, i need a default file manger that can accese root so other app can get accese to root folder. Is there a way to resolve?
Here is how to replace the stock file explore with the root accessable one.
I'm gonna priovide the best filemanager fully featured, called mixplore, which i highly recommend. this file manager can access root directory.
watch Mixplore review from HERE
NB: make sure you have a root access
1. download Mixplore
2. install it on your device then open it
3. on the left then click on "root" then grant root permission when prompted
4. go into system/apps/documentUi OR system/apps/cmfilemanager
OR system/apps/files. If your on other roms apart from cynogenmod, lineageOs or RR-Os.. go into system/apps/filemanger
in case not found in app forlder try priv-app, i.e system/apps/..
NB: not "document" its "documentUi"
5. open the that last folder on the directory i.e file manager, swipe right and go into downloads copy the Mixplore.apk, then swipe left back into root/system/app/___ and paste the mixplore and delete the stock filemager from that folder
6. restart the phone.. now you have replaced the stock file explore from your android.
ppllzz help meee mi a1
i uninstalled the system file manager and now can't reinstall it and com.andeoid.documentsui keeps stopping and after installing app getting the problem files keeps stopping

This method creates problem when trying to access sd card or otg, mixplorer ,though fully featured, will also need permission from documentsui to access externals,it will show error "doesn't exist x
Best way is disable documents ui from showing icon in launcher

add notification sound

hi, im trying to add a new notification sound to the notifications folder on an s9. the folder is /system/media/audio/notifications. i have the file i want in my download folder. there is no add button in the notification menu in the s9. so i tried doing it with total commander. but every time i try either move or copy the file it says 'error writing to target file! ' the file itself is an .ogg file . i have added a similar file to the ringtones menu but that was because it gave me an add button in the menu, just not available in the notification menu.
any ideas, thanks
You should have a folder in device storage called Notifications. Just copy the file there and Android will find it. It doesn't need to be in system.

hi thanks for the reply... just to be clear so i understand.
there is only one folder called Notifications on my phone and that is in the system section ( /system/media/audio/notifications).
there is no folder called notifications in my device storage.
so as that is the case does that mean i should create a folder called notifications in device storage, if so will the phone add the 2 folders together when showing list of notifications?
thank you

EDIT: Looks like I have to eat my hat. What I wrote below worked on EVERY Android phone I've had, from htc, Samsung, LG, and Google. It does not seem to work on the S9+.
ReEdit: Working now. See post below.
The short answer is yes, that is how it should work. I thought my S9 plus already had a Notifications folder in the user partition, but I might have created it in the process of restoring things from the prior phone. It is Notifications with a capital N, btw. You can also create (if you don't have it already) a Ringtones folder to add new ringtones to the device.
These have to be on internal storage, not an SD card. At least on older versions of Android, if you put them on an SD card the new sounds would work for a while, but eventually Android would "lose" them.
Finally the notification sounds I added are showing up in the list. The only thing I can think of that made them show up is that I rebooted the phone. So if you add files to the Notifications directory, and don't see them when you try to choose one, try rebooting your phone.

Can't change ringtone from default to any mp3/ogg/wma/wav file...

Hi folks,
I'm having my Zenfone 5Z update (ZS620KL) for 2 weeks now, and I just can't find a way to select any other ringtone/notification tone than the default ones....
When entering Sound settings and trying to select a non-standard one (via the "+" (plus) sign in the upper-right corner), I'm always getting the notification, saying "Can't add non-standard ringtone".
This happens regardless of the ringtone format (mp3, ogg, wma, wav)...
I have tried to copy my ringtones and notification sounds into the following paths:
INTERNAL STORAGE\storage\emulated\0\media\audio\ringtones
INTERNAL STORAGE\storage\emulated\0\media\audio\notifications
OR
INTERNAL STORAGE\storage\emulated\0\Ringtones
INTERNAL STORAGE\storage\emulated\0\Notifications
Nothing is working The files are being seen by the system sound picker, but when choosing particular file, it is just notifying as mentioned above.
Can you guys confirm, that you have the same issue? Does anyone know any solution for this? This is so annoying....
Today, a new FOTA was installed on my device (WW_90.11.37.95_20180727), but nothing changed - still the same issue.
Thanks in advance for any help.
updated model - thanks drpmch. I have Zenfone 5z ZS620KL

Hi Wan932
Thanks for the answer.
When I'm choosing either: built in file manager OR TOTAL CMD manager OR ES file explorer OR any other file manager, it is constantly providing me the "Can't add non-standard ringtone" notification...
I thought, that maybe I need to place those somewhere....
If my phone would be rooted, I guess, it would fall into root\system\media\ringtones.... But mine is not rooted.
Any other suggestion please?
Use the built-in file manager
Hi I've been using this for a week now, so the first thing was to change the ringtone. I simply used the accompanied file manager to change it.
Step 1
Open the file manager and browse to your music file.
Step 2
Long press on the file, then press the three dot menu on the top right corner. A new fly out menu appear. Choose set system sound
Step 3
Replace the sound you want to change

Hey apad,
This worked..... but:
- it only replaces the default SIM1 ringtone AND default system sound
- still, can't change it for SIM2 or different sound for SMS, email, calendar event or apply custom ringtone for a specific contact (which I'm after the most)....
Any other ideas please?
