Hello,
I have downloaded the Sky Go app and the Sky Go Tablet app to my AFTV. The Tablet one doesn't work. The other one does work when I "hide my root", when I try to log in it says that it is currently incompatible. Is there anyway you can fool the app into thinking that the AFTV is a different type of device?

Hey - I also tried this a while back, pre being rooted, got to login screen and obviously got 'device not compatible' but thanks to the good folk of XDA I came across Market Helper
http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/general/videos-how-to-root-mod-hack-amazon-fire-t2800683/post54136290
Have not tried Sky Go yet but I reckon it should work. I have the Play Store set up and have been able to update all my apps and have downloaded new apps which had previously shown incomparable. This would be a good win if it does work.
I see on their website they say it doesn't work on rooted devices. You say you 'hid your root'?
Yes, I used "Hide My Root" from the Play Store.
Did you try Market Helper? Does that work?
Maybe when the UK version of the FireTV gets released, SkyGO will become available.
No still doesn't work for me. Sky Go app (not tablet app), markethelper set to HTC One and used the app 'hide my root'. Still showing device not compatible.

Does anyone know how I can enable location services for Fire TV? I had the NHL Gamecenter app for Android loaded through the Google Play Store and it was working great until the last update. Now when I try to watch a game it says "location services must be enabled to watch games" or something like that. Thanks for any help.

I don't know if this will work, but i did some lookiing and this is what I came up with.
You need this app: https://mega.co.nz/#!h09kwCIC!MoOnw3dDsQcaSiZTI8X6kcZTgwXmF8ECv8dNrzB6J8E (settings.apk)
Note: the settings.apk is from a post in this forum, I couldn't find it, so i just reuploaded the one I have.
In settings, you have to ability to turn location stuff on.
Beyond that, do NOT know if it works or not, as I don't have any location specific services i can test on it.
Let's us know if that works for ya.
So the problem appeared to be initially an issue with my VPN (unblock.us) but after I updated to the latest version of the Gamecentre Android app I still had to enable location services to be able to watch full live games. This did work with the settings app you posted about so thanks for that. If anyone else has the issue you need to enable all three check boxes in the location services setting. Thanks again.

How were you able to check all 3 boxes on the firetv? For some reason I can only check the last checkbox, anything else I click on takes me out of the location services sub-menu.

I didn't do anything special I just clicked all three of the the checkboxes one at a time. I had no issues with it crashing. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Yes I sideloaded that app onto my Fire TV and launched it and checked the location services boxes and then I was able to watch NHL games again. Are you rooted and what firmware are you using? If you let me know what your set-up is I can try to compare to mine and see if there are any differences? Did you download the app from google play for the Fire TV or sideload it?

Thanks but I get script failed when I try to run it after I installed the latest 0.71 Gamecentre script. Do you have this actually working on your Fire TV? I would like to get this working as the way I have it set up now with the sideloaded Android app isn't ideal because you need the mouse ( or Droidmote) to use it and the apps UI is terrible. Off topic but the NHL app on the Roku is awesome. You can choose to join the game live, start from the beginning and also choose to watch the home/away feed. It would be nice if the Android app had these features too.

I'm on 51.1.02, rooted.
Has anyone else got the settings.apk to work changing the location settings ?
I've tried v4.04 of the settings.apk with one of my FTV's running pre-rooted 51.1.3.0_513011520 and can 'tick' the third (location & google search) but location service and GPS satellites goes back a screen when trying to tick them.
Is there another settings type program or any other way of doing this ?
I want to run NHL and keep getting the issue when trying live streams saying location services needs to be enabled.
I'm on pre-rooted 51.1.3.0 and I got all three of the location settings checked and was able to watch NHL after it initially not working for me.

I was having the same issue as you and all I did was reinstall xposed installer over the top of the one already installed and I was able to tick all options on settings.apk
Works great.

Could you try to uninstall it and reinstalling? Not sure what else relies in it or if you have other modules installed.

Just tried uninstall/reinstall. There was no change.
AT&T has finally released a FireTV Uverse app (seems to be a lot better then the PlayStore Uverse App), but like other apps it comes with a root checker that blocks video playback.
It gives the following error, “Playback not allowed because device is not secure”
I know others have come across this problem with other apps that do the same root check. Has anybody found any workaround for this ???
I know there are some "hide root" kind of apps on the PlayStore but I am not sure which would be best for a FireTV. Or if they even work at all.
Any info would be appreciated... ty
You could use hide root applications ex. Rootcloak, hide my root, etc. But ultimately unless the actual application is modified to hide root detection in code your chances are slim to non basically. On xda I've seen certain applications that were modified to work with root ex. Time Warner. But then the developer pushes a force update. Also developer can write new code to make sure app hasn't been tampered. Hope that helps.

Sorry but since I refuse to un-Root any of my 1st Gen FireTV's the only solution I found was to purchase some FireTV Stick's when they are on special ($25) & connect that to a separate HDMI port to use for Uverse & or any other App that wont work correctly on a Rooted device...
Another option would be to Display Mirror the Uverse App from a phone or tablet to your FireTV.
Amazon's parental control Freetime app does not appear to be very useful. It seems to allow me to select only those apps downloaded from the Amazon app store, and not choose from all installed on the tablet (including the ones from Google Play).
has anyone found an alternative? I'd hate to have to go through a paying service (although, Remote Screen Time seems to work best, but still costs $5/month).
thanks!

Suggestions
Have you tried the "Screen Time Parental Control" app? I use it.
Kids Place would be great, but the home button can't be locked by the kids place app, because the fire launcher always starts if pressing the home button. So it is not a parental controled app...
Has anyone any idea how to make the lock possible ? Are there root rights necessary ?
Thanks,
Klaus

I use Smart Launcher. My device is rooted and it's running 5.0.1. It was a birthday gift for my 4 year old. I rooted it and disabled updates and deleted the fire launcher after I installed Smart Launcher. So I don't do anything with it now myself unless it's installing some new game for my 4 year old. Is 5.1.1 not able to be rooted? I'm not keeping up with the scene on this tablet because I don't use it myself, only when I set it up for my son, and it was on 5.0.1 after whatever initial update it got when I first turned it on.
Anyone a kids Place or secured APP running on a 5.1.1 fire?

ok, with supertool (see link at the bottom), just install google playstore and novalauncher. Permanent root is not necessary ! It worked perfectly for me and kids place doing well !
Please notice that a factory reset and a 5.1.1 version is needed before using the super tool from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=64358332#post64358332
I tried AppLock from Qizmodo, has been perfect, but isn't working with 5.1.1 anymore. Really sad. So maybe Mobile Fence will work, website says it is compatible with 5.1.1.
I don't wanna just lock apps, but set a time limit for e.g. games so that my daughter is able to use the musci player all day, but will not play games for several hours. If someone has an idea how to get AppLock running again, would be great. I contacted the company itself, but doesn't seem they are working on the app anymore.
Have you tried supertool to get novalauncher ? Maybe that can cope with applocker.

I don't see the benefit of novalauncher. I can hide unused apps, ok. But I want to use some apps with a predefined time limit. So I installed some nice games, want to define the group "games" and set a time limit for their usage, let's say 1h daily. I find no way to do that with novalauncher...
Try Nester, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.mindquake.nester&hl=en
I used the free version of dinner time, but the pay version(3.99) adds a couple non essential stuff.

Same here. But it's still possible for the kids to use "parent apps", when they let list the recently used apps (right symbol after swiping up from the bottom).

You can simply disable that via the Kids Place - Parental Control app!!!
I found a good one: lollipop launcher by mobint. It allows you to lock apps on home screen and hide others on app drawer. It's free too. I recommend it.

You can use an app called apk icon editor and that will resign the apk so it wont even check for updates or you can download an app called disable service, look for playstore in the app and disable the three entries, that start with reschedular....

Download "Apps2Fire" from Playstore, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.koni.appstofiretv&hl=en set it up, you have to link your Amazon Fire TV IP address. Download "Disable Service" from Playstore, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.disableservice&hl=en, go to Playstore apk in the app and disable three services that start with Reschedular....I linked photo to show which three. You wont be bothered by updates anymore. Very simple to recheck to undo everything I suggested. Gd luck bro! Lmk how it goes!!!
Hi all,
I have a 2nd gen FireTV, live in the UK, and I'm trying to install directv (not directv now). I've installed the tablet version from 1mobile market and that opens ok, let's me accept disclaimer, but then tells me my version is out of date.. When downloading newest version (5.0.107) from aptoide, it just doesn't open. Sometimes the disclaimer page loads for a second, but then it just closes again
I not 100% sure I have the right version for the FireTV
I have a US VPN connected
Any ideas?

I would choose the tablets one just for the probably built-in landscape mode & the size of the channels guide alone.
Both versions seem to have been updated on the same day. Although they have different version numbers.

If your device is rooted. You might wanna try the XPosed Holo Themer module. See if that helps to open the App.
Try the non-tablet one next.
Could also be related to not having the PlayStore Services on our FTV's.
I tried the APKMirror tablet APK since it suppose to be nodpi. But it crashes as soon as it tries to load the agreement.
Tried the phone version too. That one crashes quicker. Will try to see if Holo Themer helps the Tablet App load later.
