Android L and 64bit support - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I want to know if our newest tablet have 64bit support on his processo, for incoming update to Android L in 64bits

No, there are no 64 bit SOC's in the wild yet.

Any guess whether this will have Android L in the future once it's released? Has Samsung ever updated any of their tablets?

HTC 10 and Android P

Hello,
with rumors of Android P coming in, do you think HTC 10 will get Android P officially or LineageOS 16? I think we won't get it officially because the phone is from 2016, but Galaxy S6 from 2015 is likely to get Android O so it is possible...

I personally doubt it, htc 10 came with 6, got 7 l, were lucky htc promised 8 l, and even then the whole way official android 8 is going doesn't seem well, I'm thinking that some htc 10's will get android 8 while some will stay on android 7.
Why would htc even do that? It doesn't make any sense.
(heh, 'sense')

And what about custom roms/LineageOS?
I think this is all a bit early. Android O hasn't even been pushed to all CID's.....
I think if the dev didnt find the fix of radio downgrade issues with oreo firmware ,we will never get LineageOS or any asop roms
This is my opinion about the 10 for now
I wouldn't hold my breath on Android 'P'. I just hope we get lucky and receive Android 8.1 to fix some of the bugs in 8.0.

With the history of updates from HTC that I know of, by the time P comes out, the 10 will be considered EOL
update

If I could as lucky T-mobile did't release 8.0 and looks like they want either, I was holding out but looks like I'll be moving on
I'd love an update that let's me uninstall Instagram and Facebook. Android P would be icing on the cake though

Android P for Nexus 5X?

Will we see a port of Android P Developer Preview for the Nexus 5X? As there wont be an P update for Nexus 5X, only for Pixel.
Well, probably I'd guess. Should we go from stock now to Lineage and then wait for P based ROMs?
I am so much upset
I am pretty sure Lineage os 16 ROM with Android P will come in time. But it is pretty early to talk about it. The official new OS version (Android 9.0) will come at August. So you can expect a custom ROM at October.
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/201...upport-for-the-nexus-phones-and-pixel-tablet/
No Android P for the 5X, which means no preview either. They will be supported on 8.1 through November 2018 with security updates.
That's a 3 year run for the 5X, which isn't too bad.
now i'm so upset but we should been happy to join in rom porting community hhhhhhhh
I'm sure there will be custom ROMs for the 5X based on Android P... just a matter of when, not if
I've been working on it all day today. Imagine it will come fairly soon.

No, the last official Android Version for the Nexus 5X is Android O, because the system update support for the phone has expired in September 2017 (2 Years). Only security updates will release till September 2018 (3 Years).
I think Android P will release only as a custom ROM like LineageOS or ResurrectionRemix...
Linage 16 are confirmed for Nexus 5x and Nexus 5.
Did anyone see what is new in DP 2 of Android P? wow
Nexus 5X - android preview 2?

Wooot ? they change their minds ?

What's next? SP or Oreo?

Are there any release notes for may security patch?
I hope we will receive oreo next..
Personally I think Oreo will come perhaps 1-2 months after the G6 launch.
I still see Motorola using the Android 7 v 8 comparison between the phones as a marketing ploy.

they have sent emails comparing the G5S having 7.1 vs the new G6 with android 8.0.. and then there are the fanboys of motorola saying it was never delayed..
Motorola could step up and give us the android P beta, then release the official in august-september, it counts as only one update just dreaming

The Galaxy Nexus got an 8.1 port so I doubt they would give up on the g5 phones
Consider this:
On how Oreo 8 works vs current 7 so it's a biggie https://www.androidpolice.com/2017/...-will-modularize-android-make-updates-faster/.
Moto G5 Plus will not support project treble

Oreo != Treble. We won't get treble.
Lenovo screwed us over, stock-ish Android but no major updates or improvements other than security patches. I will never buy another one of their phones again that's for sure. Next device will probably be a Android One device like the Nokia 7 Plus.

New upcoming update to pie

The news article only says that a new M5 Lite tablet with Android Pie is released to the market.
It does not tell that Android Pie is or will be released for the M5 Lite 10" tablet.

All true. One can only hope for an update from huawei, since both versions of M5 lite tablets originally came with Android Oreo. And since now is launching the 8 inch version one with Androis Pie, we could expect the update for the 10 inch one hopefully before the new year

[Q] Would it even be possible to port Android 12 to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus?

Seeing how even the Samsung Galaxy S II has gotten a port of LineageOS 12, I wondered if there's anything that would prevent the Galaxy Nexus from getting it as well.
A developer already told me privately that it would be theoretically possible and that it would probably be better off with Android Go settings, but I wondered if there could be anything else that might prevent it. Because I see little discussion about this phone and I've seen no Custom Roms that go beyond Android 7.1 Nougat.
As a smartphone of the Nexus line, shouldn't it be even easier to support than something like the Galaxy S II?
I just know that it'd be awesome to see newer Android versions on it, just as with several other older phones that already got them.
Are you serious??? There is no way Galaxy Nexus can run Android 12. Even when this phone run on Android 7.1.2 (latest custom rom) it run poor and gets hot quickly, so i don't think anyone will build any custom rom for this device.

I'm just curious whether it is possible or not. The Samsung Galaxy S II seems to be able to do it, even though it's still in an early phase.
"As a smartphone of the Nexus line, shouldn't it be even easier to support than something like the Galaxy S II?"
for ti Omap chipset it isnt really easy to port twrp or lineage 19.0
"A developer already told me privately that it would be theoretically possible and that it would probably be better off with Android Go settings,"
no, you don't bringup and you can't make android 12 for this device. remember TI OMAP processors are close source afaik. and android 7 on this device RUNS VERY POORLY. so it's impossible to port a12 on this device, unless you try to port LOS 15.0 first.

Oreo actually runs way better than Nougat, at least with the holy kernel 3.4.
Can someone port Lineage OS 15.1 for the Galaxy Nexus maguro?
Don't forget, Android 12 (as well as 11, possibly also 10) is 64 bit only.

That's not right, we are running A11, A12 and A13 on many other arm chipsets like the Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Galaxy S3 and also many others...
Yes, it can be compiled for these chipsets, but will it be compatible with new software?

Yep, everything seems to work fine .
its theoretically possible, the omap 4460 is armv7 and has over a gig of ram, which are the bare minimum system requirements for running android 12.
however, it would be a major undertaking to port the crusty code over to android 12 AND it would run like garbage, unless someone were to try and speed up that code, which would be a whole other story.
if the community had continued like it had on the galaxy s2, this wouldve already happened, but it didnt for likely many reasons.
im guessing one of those is the lack of mainline linux support, which is because of the SGX540 in this phone.
