So I just want the perfect browser. Here is what I'm looking for. I don't like how browsers I.e.. chrome has some words big some small. Htc one browser does his good. It also does a great job of fitting the words on the screen when you zoom. In fact it would be perfect if it didn't reload web pages and kept The active throughout day. I.e.. on aosp roms I can sign into a web site that actively updates throughout day and it stays alive. I can goto that tab and its still right where i left off. It seems as if the htc one browser constantly reloads tabs as opposed to just keeping them in memory. Is there a fix for this on htc one browser? Or a way to port a browser from aosp Rom or any suggestions that do a good job of this?

I use Opera browser. It saves tabs and shows them on the next opening of the app,, providing you don't back out of it and just hit the home button to exit.
On a side note has anyone else come from or have a windows phone because compared to IE11 on WP I find that both browsers are really slow.

Thanks. Does it save the "state" of the tab? Or will it reload the page automatically. That is the problem with stock is it automatically reloads the tabs. It doesn't keep the current state in memory

Wow, I love this board...!
Opera mobile 10.1 beta works like a charm on my Galaxy S Doc Froyo XWJPO v7.6.2. It even downloads flash-videos (e.g. tagesschau.de) and opens them with the internal video player. Only live stream is not working.
Thanks a lot. Is Opera going to publish this version or will Opera Mobile 10 for Android only be pre-installed on selected devices? (I read something like that on areamobile.de --> uu.uu.uu.areamobile.de/news/13631-opera-mobile-10-jetzt-auch-fuer-android)
Isn't the final version going to be released today?
Works amazingly fast and smooth on my galaxy s. I love it! It doesn't play all our even most flash content so it can't yet replace the stock browser, but once plugin support is there, I'll only use this one for sure!
Will the mobile version compress data like mini did?

I has an option to use compression or not.
What I like the most is reflow on pinch to zoom same way as on my nexus modded aosp stock used to be. Very familiar as symbian user as well.
No flash yet. Hope it comes.
Available on market now!!!
Also for those not familiar with the opera you can change opera user agent by opera:config menu (many other settings as well like cache, ram management etc.). User agent 2 will give you desktop and will auto launch youtube app so it's still better quality than what you get by default on mobile site as a consultation for not having full flash.

How do you get to the advanced settings? I cant seem to find it on this beta release
Gave it a quick try. Very good but still not perfect.
When zooming in the images and text are blurry for a second and it only updates after you stop zooming, unlike the stack browsers where it's instant.
It is very smooth when scrolling though.
Also in landscape mode, I can't zoom out fully. This is weird, why do they do this? It's not as bad as Opera Mini was in landscape but it still prevents this from being as nice to use as Dolphin HD. I want full control of zoom all the time, not just in portrait mode.
Also can't import bookmarks from the stock browser. Hope they add this ability.
Needs an exit button for when you don't want to leave it in the background, like Dolphin HD. Sometimes you want to close it so it doesn't return to it's previous state and rather starts 'fresh'.
Will keep it to see future updates and maybe if I want to preserve bandwidth when using mobile data. But Dolphin HD will stay as my default for now.
I have a problem on JPA... Internet browser won't save as default, no matter how many times I set it >_<
Great news.

I can zoom in and out completely in landscape and in portrait
Imports bookmarks and speed dial from desktop version. And unlike chrome to phone it actually works.
Agree with you for the rest except this is my browser of choice now. Waiting on beta 2

Depends on the site.
As a test go to myadsl.co.za.
In Dolphin HD (and I assume default browser too) when I hold the phone in landscape I can see the whole width of the site.
But on Opera I cannot, it refuses to zoom out that far.
It also seems to take longer to load the page (using Wi-fi), regardless of the Opera Turbo setting. This might just be someone else in the house using the connection at the same time as me though.
I'll give it a go later and maybe post back my findings. Opera Mobile on Symbian and Windows mobile were very good and i'd tried Opera Mini on some dumbphones as well and it worked well. I hadn't tried Opera Mini for Android as I didn't like the idea of only being restricted to using Opera's proxies (I assume that was the only option).
Opera Mobile 10.1 Beta for Android direct link from Opera or pick a version yourself over here.
No flash integration.... sigh.

I really was interested in having the youtube app playback youtube videos instead of the stock player. i changed the user agent to 2 as you describe above and it didnt work. i tried clearing cache, cookies, etc and restarting my phone. i have a htc droid eris running 2.1. can you provide more details on how you were able to get the youtube app to launch automatically from opera mobile?
thanks in advance.
Sorry seems web ignores uset agent string right now but if you go to bottom of youtube page and select full site next time you launch opera it will remember it and launch app respectively.

Thanks for trying, but it didnt work for me. it must have somethign to do with the url on youtube. It tried to launch the youtube player as you indicated but i got an error that it couldnt connect to the server.

Set it to whichever string you want from "User Prefs" -> "Custom User Agent"
Opera Mobile is the first browser to actually challenge the stock one for mobile browsing supremacy.

I tired string 2 as discussed above but it didnt work. i am a bit of a noob, so can you go through the exact settings when i do about:config? is there an index of what user agents the numbers correspond to? for example, when i use skyfire, the videos launch just fine in the youtube app. however, i agree with you abotu opera mobile and this is the only thing i need to be all set.
thanks in advance
First post.
Just ordered the SGS2, migrating over to T-mobile from (godawful) AT&T on the (godawful) E71x.
I've done a bunch of skimming here, tons of good info.
Question: is there a definitive, "go to" guide to get up and running with the SGS2? I want to hit the ground running when it shows up next week. I see some noob guides to Android, but most are quite dated.
Thanks in advance.
get titanium backup and ROM manager apps so u will be prepared when it's rooted. Get a proper home launcher like zeam launcher, etc.

I'd skip the other home launchers, I like the TouchWiz 4 launcher a lot more than those other launchers.
MOG is an excellent music subscription service with high quality lossy downloadable streaming music.
I like Opera Mobile for fast connections. It works well with most websites. I use Opera Mini when I'm on EDGE or GPRS. I use Firefox Beta 8 in the market if Opera Mobile doesn't want to work with a certain site or if I want to access Firefox Sync. Set your User Agent to Desktop with both browsers. Firefox isn't my main browser because it doesn't support flash and it's intensive in CPU usage but Opera Mobile does support flash and it tends to be easier on the processor.
Tunein radio is awesome
What are you looking for though?
I agree that tunein radio is awesome, it's my go to app for internet radio.
The first thing I did was a factory reset, I did it before I ever left the store. I waited until I got home and connected to wifi before I began my setup. It did not have the new market so after adding my google account I opened the market and closed it. I then turned my screen off and left it alone for 20 or so minutes so it could sync from Google. After 20 minutes I had the new market and all my contacts were there.
So I would recommend those steps to begin and whatever you do after is up to you. That is the great thing about Android, everyone is allowed the experience of their choosing!

I would do the same thing as far as syncing goes. I also once owned an E71, I loved the hardware on those phones but not the OS... I'd get acquainted in general with Android for a bit, check out the market, and go from there. Few helpful tips:
-holding down the home button brings up task manager
-the option key (far left) is useful in a lot of situations. If you're stuck in an app but want to change it's settings or don't see the button you need, try hitting option!
-set up gmail and Facebook if you'd like to have sync'd contacts including contact photos
-if you use dropbox, go grab the app from the market!
-if you tap the home button and the lock button at the same time, it will take a screenshot. The screenshot can be found in the gallery under that name (screenshots), if you open it in there and tap on the image, more options will appear below so you can share the image with us for example if you need help with something.

I use stock browser with quick controls turned on. This has happened about three times now. I'm on a forum andi have about 4 or 5 browser tabs open. I'm finishing a long letter and I'm hitting the submit button. Suddenly I'm at android's home screen. I hit the browser button and my letter is gone including all tabs.I don't know what I'm doing to cause this.i don't even know what buttonsi could hit to make all the browser tabs to close at once. Does anyone have any idea? Thanks.
You're running out of memory. If rooted, try changing your low mem settings.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
If you are running out of memory while browsing the web, there is something wrong with your unit. That should not be happening.
Is that what's really going on? I thought maybe I was hitting a combination of keys with the outer palm of my hand or something.
My evo 3d has a gig of memory (800 something useable), and to many browser tabs, plus some music playing, etc will kill my browser. It's not really out of memory per se just the oom value of the browser gets up there too high. Especially with the values most people set by default on custom roms. What's the default for the tab?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
I don't understand. How do I look that up?
It happened today also and I'm positive this time I didn't accidentally hit any buttons or keys.
Every problem I had went away when I installed Opera browser. No more crashes. No more stuttering, choppy YouTube videos. Working select text, copy, and paste. No more bumping the wrong links or accidently closing on-screen keyboard because I hit the spacebar wrong. No more opening windows because my finger accidently strayed across the screen. Everything just works now. Boy am I glad I tried Opera. If you're having any of these issues I suggest giving Opera a try.
Unfortunatly, Opera wont work for some sites that use certain javascript functions and most sites that I use break in Opera (tables & forms dont show up properly). Luckily Ive never really had a problem with the stock browser, but I think the reason why is because I have pluggins set to On Demand. If you ever feel like giving the stock browser another shot I'd highly recommend to keep the plugins set to on demand and clearing out the cache every once in a while doesnt hurt either.

Could you please give some examples of sites that "break in Opera"? I am using Opera exclusively and I haven't experienced that problem.
I havent tried using Opera Moble recently, but the last time I worked with it one of my banking sites wouldn't let me login due to javascript errors that were only present while using opera. Also, I use my tablet for supporting customers while out in the field and the primary site I support does not function properly under opera (things like javascript links, the div wrapped tables and embedded videos do not display properly or sometimes not at all).
Opera is great for sites using html5 and simple javascript functions, but I cant use it as my daily driver when it wont play nice with my development stuff and refuses to render pages properly that my clients create. I want to be able to use one browser for everything, not be in the middle of a call and have to tell a customer "oh wait, give me just a sec I have to switch browsers, I forgot your site uses a ajax generated, javascript pop-up and I cant scroll it".
I'd link a specific site as an example, but it would require customer permissiions to do so since their site requires authentication but here's a charted example you can see that while opera has issues other browsers do not: www.quirksmode.org/m/table.html
For the general public though, you shouldnt have an issue.
Hi guys
Just wondering who had given the new Firefox release a whirl on their HOX.
Ideally wanted to get your comments on the usability end- I know the stats seem to blow other things out the water.
So chiefly:
*User interface with regards to tabs, menus, labels
*Rendering of text and images (speed/quality)
*Ability to reflow text, if at all
*Memory/GPU usage
I'm a big fan of the stock browser because I use the "Readability" option a lot. Double-tap to fit text to the screen isn't such a bad thing either.
Cheers
Install it and have a go? Probably could've done it by the time you'd written this post!
I use Chrome purely as it syncs my bookmarks with my other PCs
I personally use Dolphin Browser HD it's excellent but will give this a shot and see how it compares.
I did like Dolphin cause it has an exit button but prefer the sync options in Chrome
I saw that coming
Cheers guys - I expected everyone to tell me to try it for myself but I wanted to gauge how users felt.
Using it now and yeah, it's incredibly snappy but Sense browser seems to fit my usage better.
Gave it a quick try, the only thing I dislike it has no native full screen mode I like browsing in full screen mode and the add on sucks, as in you have to exit out of it each time you want to change URL. But speed seems fine.
Oh, also hate the text rendering as always in firefox. Sure this can be changed within the about configs.
maxthon browser and Chrome for me firefox blahhh:silly:
The new Firefox browser renders pages at 39.6 fps..chrome comes second with 21 fps n stock browser at 19 fps..
Sent from my Stunning White HTC One X
Using Opera myself, but may give this ago as like firefox on the old lappy
The new Firefox 14 definitely the best competitor for chrome..
I like using it but now after cleaning and updating to Bad Boyz v1.2 I get not compatible with device. Web browser app sucks. Anyone else use HTC IE? It worked fine updating dirty...
Sorry to dig up a 3 months old thread, but I too love the HTC stock internet browser.
I just can't get used to Chrome or Firefox mobile on Android, like some user said, why the hell did Google remove text reflow from their webview browser? as a 40+ man, I have hard time reading those tiny text on the tiny phone screen. both browser implementation on the text resize suck big time! they either do not zoom enough or zoom too much, or worst, zoom the wrong texts on the screen.
I got fed up and download the HTC internet apk from some website , surprisingly, it install and run without major issue, for now. I wonder what will the cons of using unsupported app/browser in HTC 10?
p.s. I don't know if linking some app website is allow so I won't do it. just google HTC internet and it should comes up nicely.
