[Q] Back to stock - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
after i have bought my new HTC One mini 2 i would like to go with my Desire back to the beginning.
I searched here and also on other sites for the best and simplest way. Most sites say to use the RUU.exe but i couldn't find it here http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads.
But than i found this post here on XDA that tells me not to use RUUs.
So what is the best way for me??
I want the stock ROM with no tweaks no a2sd, just the way it was when i bought it. I don't care weather there is root/s-off or not. I wanted to use my nandroid backup but it was made with an other Recovery and i don't know how to get back to it.
So in the best case i have my desire just the way it was after i rooted it. (with the stock rom from HTC but with recovery and root permission

To get complete stock then u need to use an ruu. So if ur s-on, relock ur bootloader
fastboot oem lock
Then run the ruu.
S-off, then make sure ur on stock hboot then flash the Alpharev downgrade.img then run the ruu. To get the correct ruu, google "shipped roms" then find ur device (bravo).
Or if u want it stock but rooted then look at development thread for stock roms and flash it in recovery.
If u want to restore ur old nandroid then id say u cant because u made the nandroid with different recovery. So im guessing that ur using 4ext recovery now? And im guessing when u rooted for the first time u used CWM recovery? So if thats the case, flash CWM recovery then restore nandroid.

Your descriptions are conflicting.
If you want it the way you bought it (fully stock, S-ON etc), then RUU is the proper, easiest way.
If you restore any kind of nandroid backup, then it will be rooted with whatever A2SD it had at the time, i.e. this is the way you bought it...

I thought these commands only work on Nexus devices? I've never needed to use them on the Desire anyway.
Even if the desire is S-ON, the 2.3.3 GB RUU should run without issue.
@HandyBesitzer
There's a whole troubleshooting guide stickied the top of Q&A dedicated to all of this. Follow it to the letter for your particular situation. Find and flash the 2.3.3 GB RUU

I always thought that when ur htc dev unlocked bootloader, then u need to relock the bootloader. I always had s-off so never tried it with the desire but with s-on with htc desire s and sensation u need to relock the bootloader first or ruu wont run, just thought it would be the same with the desire.

Guess so, depends on how / if OP unlocked the bootloader
- If it's dev unlocked, then those commands will likely apply then
- If he's S-ON, he could still have rooted with original unrevoked method for instance. I don't believe those fastboot commands wouldn't apply, RUU would work straight over the top
- If it's revoluationary / alpharev S-OFF, downgrader instructions as you said

Black screen
Hi, I have a Desire. I used Alpharev to get S-On to install a RUU. The RUU has been installed, when it restarted the screen remained black. The phone starts, the buttons are lighted but the screen is black.
It seems to be a software problem.
Can anyone help me?

You flashed the wrong RUU
You flashed an SLCD RUU which is meant for an AMOLED device, or the other way around. In other words, it's incompatible with your screen type, which is why your screen remains black.
Look at bortak's troubleshooting guide stickied to the top of Q&A, it covers this. You will need to use the 2.3.3 GB RUU as outlined above.

wasn't 2.2.2 the latest Version for Desire??
first to clear what i did to get the s-off, root,...
I used unrevoke to get s-off, so HTC does not know what i did to my phone
I also installed a new hboot a while ago, but i think i went back to the old. SO do i need the downgrade there??
About my first recovery it was Amonra, because cwm did not work for me first. Now i have the 4ext. It's simply the best
Also it is possible i updated my radio i don't know but i think i did it. Is that a problem??
I'm in my fastboot now and see this:
--- AlphaRev ---
Bravo PVT4 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
Microp-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNW0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27

Do i download bravo_stock or bravo_downgrade??

So the RUU flashed successfully, it boots into the stock ROM, but you can't navigate the screen? Do the hardware buttons work? Does it react at all?
Still recommend to use the 2.3.3 GB RUU. Even guy above with one post managed to follow the given instructions first time, find it and flash it successfully

Forget about the radio, should flash with the RUU.

No, the disclaimer says you may not be able to send sms or mms....nowhere does it say cannot....It is just a terms and conditions disclaimer, that's it, so you can't sue HTC in the small chance that some things don't work...
I recommend it every time yes, as I have recommended it 100s of times here...just like to the guy above. It worked straight away. [Q]Stuck in errorscreen/Bootloader after unroot

Hi.
My Device:
HTC Desire PVT4 SLCD rooted, s-off
since my homebutton doesnt work anymore i wanted to make use of my warranty and send in the device. Problem is: it was t-mobile branded, so i had to s-off the device and use those custom installations (with the slcd installer and the OTA update i had to rename to update.zip. got the tutorial from a german site whose admin is known for helping with desire problems and stuff)
i follwed the instructions 1:1 but it somehow didnt work properly
Problem: My device is stuck on a certain screen and wont boot anything anymore.
The screen: HTC logo in the middle, triangles with ! in every corner
absolutely no reaction to any keypresses, the only thing that produces some kind of reaction is plugging and unplugging the usb cable, which gives me a screen similar to the bootloader screen that says:
--- AlphaRev ---
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27
Aug 10 2010,17:52:18
RUU (the only "usable" option, though i cant use it. its in orange)
What do i do now?
My device is, as stated above a german t-mobile device.
ive googled for hours now but dont find anything particular (especially since there are so many different desires out there today and t-mobile doesnt seem to like people to get a hand on their newe RUUs, or do they?)
i found the austrian RUU on t-mobile.at though i read on some german sites that this wont work on my device (maybe brick it even more?)
on shipped-roms.com there is a UK t-mob RUU, though i dont know whether this is 2.2 (since 2.1 doesnt have SLCD drivers) so im not sure whether to flash this one either
Can i even use a RUU at this point?
if you need any information i maybe forgot, tell me and ill try to find out
thanks in advance
(cant provide links since i am a first time poster)

you can run a RUU now
just plug phone with usb cable to PC, boot into fastboot mode and execute the RUU.exe
it will go back to stock, you will lose root and custom recovery but at least it will boot up, so you can root again etc.

I think it is an UK ROM, so no German/Austrian one.
I found an thread in a German forum and they have linked an Austrian t-mobile RUU for Desire SLCD: http://www.t-mobile.at/servicedownloads4you/webnwalkmanager/HTC_Desire_Froyo_Update_RUU.zip
You need to unzip the file, don't flash the ZIP on your Desire!
Forum: http://www.androidpit.de/de/android/forum/thread/406651/RUU-Stock-ROM-fuer-SLCD-Desire-von-T-Mobile
See you
thx a lot, someone on the german forums wrote something about the austrian rom not being compatible with german desires, so i flashed aforementioned UK RUU and it worked
Thx all, problem solved

Jerrol, here is a complete guide how to unroot the Desire:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880268
It's easier than it seems ...
Short: After you flashed the stock Desire hboot (see here: http://alpharev.nl/) you can run the RUU via PC.
But don't try to install the RUU.zip via recovery. Just unzip it an run the .exe.
Cheers

Are you on the Bravo Stock Hboot already? If not, I suggest to flash Bravo Stock Hboot via fastbot not via PB99IMG - it is just saver.
Anyway, following the guide to unroot your Desire should be the best way to succeed
EDIT: If you have any questions regarding the unroot guide, feel free to post your specific question(s) here. I look in this thread from time to time so I will assist you as far as I can.

Hi.
You don't need to flash any HBOOTS or HBOOT donwngrader. Since you are S-ON you can't even do this, so exclude it from your steps and continue.
It can be a conflict with your HBOOT version if the RUU you are trying to run is too old and has a smaller HBOOT version (e.g. 0.80), and it won't install properly.
I always recommend to use the latest RUU available WWE 2.29.405.5, but this is at your discretion to choose. Also make sure your phone wasn't branded, or you'll going to need a Gold Card to install the RUU.

You need a Goldcard, yes. You have a branded phone. Only unbranded don't need it.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880268 Post 2 point 4 ff.:
4. Do I need a Goldcard?
If you have a recent version of the RUU for your Device, available on Shipped Roms, you dont need a goldcard. This is the usual scenario for people who purchased their Desire in Europe, and so have an unbranded Desire. All Branded Desires need a correct branded version of the RUU, and any other RUU including WWE (Worldwide English, or European) RUU will not work for them. Also if an unbranded Desire user wishes to change RUU to a branded version, he will need a Goldcard. This is because all Desires have a particular software tag in the Rom, called the InfoCID. This dictates the Region code. For Eg. An Indian Desire is branded and has InfoCID of HTC__038. When you change a RUU to different region, what you actually do is reset the InfoCID setting. Changing the InfoCID setting requires a Goldcard.
5. What is a Goldcard?
It is a normal MicroUSB card specially prepared in such a way that its Sector 0 (which normally doesnt hold anything useful) is modified, so that it signals to the HTC RUU that the InfoCID may be changed.
6. How do I create a Goldcard?
Just download this tool (Credits and All Rights by [email protected]), and run it.
7. Can you tell me more about Goldcards?
Sure. I've already posted it for you. Read the FAQs in this thread.

Hi you should make sure that the version ain't lower than what you have on your phone ( the version is 2.12.110.4 ), or, as I said, there will be a HBOOT conflict (if the HBOOT is lower).
Anyway I think you can give it a try without the Gold Card, since this is T-Mobile RUU, it should work, although it is recommended you make a gold card. There are lot's of threads on how to do this even without the phone.
Nothing bad will happen, besides the fact that it won't work and give you an error.

[Q] Orange Desire Unroot help

Hey guys, I am selling my trusty desire now, it has served me well but its time has come...
If anyone would like to buy it off me, they are welcome to, message me, I'm looking for 110.
I am struggling a lot to get started on the unrooting process. I've been reading through posts, topics, on here and modaco and I'm getting more and more confused
Here are the facts.
Its a limited edition black version released by orange. It was locked. Unrooted using unrEVOked method.
Its currently on Oxygen.
BaseBand Version states 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23
HBOOT is cm7r2
HBOOT version says its 6.93.1002
I tried to follow this but the nand link is dead.
I don't have the original backup I made, I must have deleted it somewhere down the line... silly me
I want to revert it to a stock GBB rom, no bloatware, and unlocked. I have the unlock code for my phone, but is it possible to revert it to a stock version?
I looked at this list to find the correct RUU, which one do I use?
Please, somebody help me out here! I have no clue what to do!
Sorry about all this...
First make sure to flash the bravo_stock bootloader, then the downgrader.
You need to make a goldcard and flash the WWE RUU, because Orange didn't release any.

I tried the FroYo RUU first, used the process in your thread that is stickied at the top of this forum (the rom.zip extraction) but that just stuck on the splash screen. So I went on the HTC Dev site and used the same method to extract the Gingerbread update and that worked no probs. Thank you so much for your help!

[Q] Going back to stock

Hi!
I'm currently running an ICJ jellybean rom on my htc one x and I'd like to revert everything to stock because I'm having hardware issues with the screen(dead rectangular strip in the middle) and I want to send the phone for repairs.
I know that there are multiple guides for this but I can't seem to find the information I need.
Phone info:
hboot version: 1.12
version-main: 2.17.169.3
cid: VODAP120
i can't find the proper RUU, i think that it hasn't been released yet
So you have updated your boot? If you did that You're unable to go back to stock (for the moment)
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium

no, you need that RUU

sometimes it will, sometimes not...you have to complain very hard with them
I take it you don't have a backup of stock to restore?
You'll have to find one, maybe somebody else has a backup. Worth asking in the Endeavor ROM Collection thread, which should be sticky in the dev section (search first).

I can't post in that thread because I don't have 10 posts yet so I decided to bump this thread.
I'm not sure that I understand step 2 in that guide, what rom.zip should I download?
Also, while searching the internet for the past two hours I found this: putlocker.com/file/9762632C5E34C557 and this putlocker.com/file/CA32250718BC0CC5 . Is it helpful?

Nevermind, I have extracted the rom zip from the RUU I posted above and then I used this guide to get back to stock and it worked. I now have ICS again, I've relocked the bootloader, installed stock recovary and an OTA update to 4.04 version, but I still have one problem, when I enter the stock recovery a red triangle is visible and I have to push vol+ and the power button to enter the menu. Is there a way to remove the red triangle?
I have hboot 1.28 and the device is S-ON. Can I install Custom jelly bean and then go back to stock to get an OTA update when it comes on my device?
I checked, there is a RUU available for my device too, but i'm confused as some people say the updated hboot wont let you go back.
also, can i just make a nandroid back up and restore from it regardless of hboot, s-on or the RUU availability?

Fogot to unlock phone before installing cyanogenmod

I have an Desire Bravo.
I used AlphaRev to S-OFF and Unrevoked to root the phone.
I then installed Cyanogenmod 7
All went OK until I realised that the phone was locked to Orange.
I've tried just about everything I can find on the net.
Here are the details when I boot up:
BRAVO PVY4 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT 0.93.0001
MICROP 051d
Radio 5.17.05.23
Things I have tried.
Updated radio to above.
Flash PB99IMG and PB99IMG_cm7r2
Get CID incorrect
Installed HTC Sync and ran RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
(not sure if this works with S-OFF)
HTC Sync and the RUU do not see the phone.
Any ideas?
TIA
Wait, so what are you trying to do? Flash a RUU?
To flash a RUU, you either use a goldcard, or install the 2.3 RUU, which is unbranded.
Or are you trying to unlock your phone? Here:

I paid for an unlock code in the hope that it might work. I can enter the code, which is accepted, but this happens each time the phone is started. And no network available.
I tried the unlock method you mentioned but I get an error when running it. Sieempi has not replied to my request for help, so I think this a a deadend.
The idea is to get the phone back to a stock rom so that I can unlock the phone using the code I purchased.
I didn't think you could make a goldcard for a phone that is running cyanogenmod. Is that true? A link would be appreciated.
Is the RUU I tried unbranded? Where can I get the 2.3 RUU for my phone? OK found the location if this. I'll give it a try.
Thanks very much for the quick reply.
I've downloaded 2.3 RUU but cannot install kernel manager on the phone because I don't have access to the market.
Can't find where to get APK from without having to install crapware.
I've installed kernel manager on my other phone but can't find the apk file. Dev Tools says it's in /data/data but that is just an xml file
Something is conspiring against me

I'm working on getting stock back.
Strangely, the 2.3 RUU program is now recognising the phone, whereas it didn't before. Just waiting for phone to charge up to install it.
UPDATE: Finally got stock rom back. Looked like magic when the HTC logo appeared. And the unlock code I bought worked too. Now I am going to install Cyanogenmod all over again. I'll reply when I have it all working. I'm still not sure why the previous RUU and HTC Sync didn't recognise the phone earlier.
Thanks for the help!

OK, so I have the 2,3 RUU stock rom working. But Unrevoked 3.32 latest version gives me an error: firmware too new.
I don't think this happened before.
I've looked at quite a few posts to solve this but have not managed to yet.

OK trying to do that now.
UPDATE: Revolutionary worked inasmuch as it gives me root access.
I then used CWM to flash cyanogenmod, as before (the same file). But every time I start the phone, the cyanogen welcome screen keeps refreshing every 3 or 4 seconds.
FINAL UPDATE: forgot to clear cache and wipe memory first. Duh!
Once simple mistake (not unlocking phone before rooting) and many hours later ...
Thanks once again. Everything working. Nice to have a backup phone.

Just one last problem that I didn't spot.
I flashed the latest gapps in Recovery but I cannot see any new app
SOLVED this problem. I was using the newtalk version of gapps. This doesn't work. Use the other version here:

Cannot access recover mode

So I've been trying to root my dads old Desire for a while now, with no success - it is locked to o2 and I'm on Orange. I didn't really want to pay to unlock it, and rooting it would have been nice. I've done two phones before, so I figured it shouldn't be too bad. Eventually I discovered it was HBOOT 1.03, and this was the problem, so the solution was to backdate the software to an earlier version (the phone is still S-ON and I cannot get this thing to take ANYTHING)
I was trying to roll back from Froyo to 2.1.
The current problem is that now the phone will not boot. With a simple turn-on it just sits at the white HTC screen, or if you go into Hboot it tries (what I assume is) 'fastboot' and checks the PB99IMG.zip file on the SD card. If I say I don't want to update and go to 'recovery' it loads the screen with the exclamation mark in a triangle in it. The problem here is that pressing up+power does nothing. I've tried a quick press, and a long hold multiple times, and with no result except the first time. Unfortunately I didn't go through the proceedure the first time, assuming it'd work again. Damn!
If I start the update it says 'can not roll back the hboot version'. It also fails on the radio_v2.
Any help will be much appreciated, and if you need any details (I've probably missed something) please ask!
Thanks

If it fails with Radio_v2, then it's a radio brick, and that's the reason it won't boot. I'm afraid you can't do much, due to the hboot version.

I'm not too worried about getting a different rom on it, or rooting it or anything any more, currently I'd like to just put it back into a working state, as it was, probably locked to o2, if you've any suggestions on how to do that?

The one step here I'm halted by is producing a Goldcard - the link to the website on the tool doesn't work any more (I've scoured t'internet, and that's the general consensus). Any idea where else I can input the CID to get a Goldcard Image?
Also how do I run the RUU on my computer? What file is it in the HTC Desire Android Upgrade folder I need to run? Afterall, there's no file titled 'RUU.exe'
Thanks

Just realized that it wouldn't work, because you have to boot your phone for the downgrader tool.
You could try something else. Unlock your bootloader using the HTC Dev site :http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader, and then try installing a custom recovery.
