So far it seems that the ultimate battery eater on this tab is web browsing on high brightness with white background. Since black pixels are basically "off" this implies that perhaps the "on" pixels are burning more juice than a super LCD screen. Watching video seems to burn much less juice. Since video has very little white this again supports the white pixel theory. Just guessing here. The best solution seems to be turning your brightness down, which seems a shame with this glorious screen.
Of course if you are in a position where you won't have access to power for a prolonged period you can activate the super saver mode which will change the screen to grayscale and increase battery life exponentially. In a pinch it works and is actually kind of cool in a way browsing the web in grayscale - feels like reading a newspaper. Although this mode still has a lot of white, the brightness is dialed way down. Pure conjecture on my part here.
Du battery saver helps too

Hi all, do you know an app to reduce the battery drain for our tablet? The "problem" battery is not really, but i want to extended the duration. i know that this little problem is solved with Ics but i don't want to flash until is official
byez
I recently rooted my A100 and installed setCPU with a profile/rule to lower the max CPU speed to 312MHz when the screen is off. It has easily trippled the amount of time I can carry the tablet around without charging, although if you're on it constantly it won't help much. But for on again, off again use it might help. Also an app called "Display Brightness" puts a subtle slider on one edge of the screen (you can set which edge) which will let you immediately adjust the screen brightness, also saving on juice.
I use Locale on my Samsung Nexus S and on my A100. It turns off WIFi, GPS, and screen etc to control battery usage. Works like a charm.
Why wait for official? The leaks won't blow up your tablet. If the minor bug or two doesn't bother you than this is just as good as the official. You can also update as you go up until the official release. I've noticed significant battery savings from ice. Feels good.

Hello guys! I am a nebie here and i own the gpad.I wanted to ask you about the life of the battery,is it depleted so quickly because of the resolution of the screen or is it a result of poor optimizing on behalf of lg?Will the custom roms and kernels will be able to fix the problem and extend the battery life?Cause if its going to be fixed,it will be one of the best tablets
Thank you in advance
According to the battery usage data that the G pad produces, its pretty much the screen itself that consumes pretty much all of the power.
If that is correct, and I believe it is, there is no fix for it.
The only real thing you can do to extend battery life is turn down the brightness of the screen.
Has anyone tried out this app yet?
I installed yesterday and its pretty awesome. It seamlessly adds a AOD to our phones that is similar to the galaxy phones. It has tons of optimizations from edge lighting, to notifications, to even having the fingerprint work while the AOD is on. and the UI is way better then the other apps I have tried.
I just installed it last night and it has been going good so far. I have not messed with the edge lighting as much tho. and the battery doesn't seem to be to drastic but I will update after I have it running for a while.
I am not associated with the app, just wanted to share my findings for an app that could bring us our beloved AOD to our phones with better UI and functionality.

Beautiful app with tons of settings. Will try this out and hope the battery consumption is not that much. Thank you for the hint.

No problem!

Yea, its not perfect, I found it works if you keep your finger on the sensor after the AOD goes away.
So after 10 hours, it is really eating the battery, but I have the setting so it's not considering my battery. I'm pretty sure if I tweaked it and let it run a day without messing around with the app this 30% would be lower. But non the less that is still pretty high.
Nice
Giving this app a try, so far lots to play with, the additional features are less than a regular cup of coffee from you favourite outlet.
The Oneplus notifications are p**s poor so nothing to loose.
7 hours overnight with flight mode: 19% battery.
Normally it would be 3-4%
But the rainbow notification thing was turned on. I'll try it again without rainbow notification border

Yea, I am going to see how much it pulls today with some settings changed and not messing around with the app as much.
For me the app looks great, but battery consumption is really high. Checking some settings, but I think it's not possible to keep the consumption down.
Battery drain was still about the same without rainbow notification.
Deleted it because it's not worth it for me

I turned on raise to wake and glance display to see if that helps, but the same for me, the battery consumption is really high, sad because its a really decent app and a nice looking AOD.
Power drain is bit high.
Yes but you have big SOT
Considering the app isn't a system app then the battery drain is normal. Glance display for me does not drain anything. Having the app on 24/7 will drain power because the screen is on. New update just came out with doze mode option for root users...I'm going to see if it improves battery while app is on without glance display.
Best free app for aod but it's a big battery drain
For me, it seems that the possibility to extend edge light to top real edge is missing. I get the edge light to get only under the top bar and not to the top edge of the bar.

The edge lighting does not go past the notch.

It does, set the app to run full screen.
Drains about 1% every 15 min for me.

Hello,
I've been using this device for about 5 months now and the battery life for me has been great so far, but there's so much you can do when you need the juice in your battery last longer. In order to help those who want to get the best battery life out of their phone, I've compiled a list of things I do to make my phone last longer.
We'll go from the things most effective to the least and mind you, all of these can be done without rooting of using ADB etc. So let's start
'''Turn on Gray Scale'''
As we have an AMOLED screen, turning on grey scale will give you an improvement in battery life of around 25-35 %, and it's especially noticable if you use your phone in high brightness mode.
'''Dark theme'''
Dark theme obviously saves battery on our phone, there's and awesome guide on XDA guiding you to do it without rooting or using any theme engine.
'''Set brightness to 50%'''
Our eyes don't perceive brightness linearly, so 100% brightness will take around 50-70% percent more battery than 50%, but going much lower won't help either cause increasing brightness from 0-50% results in around 20-30% extra power draw.
'''Restrict background running of less used apps'''
You can restrict an app from running in the background and this setting is baked right into the App Info settings,
Go to app info and tap on battery usage, from there, restrict the app.
'''Enable data saver'''
This can be enabled via Quick Settings menu and this can drastically save battery if you're mostly on Mobile data.
'''Turn off Auto Sync'''
It is long known that doing this can save a bit of battery.
'''Enable Battery Saver'''
Pretty self explanatory.
'''Change minimum width'''
Set minimum width to anything less than 400, this leads to less information being displayed on screen which results in lower usage of GPU, and thus better battery (somewhat)
'''Reduce animation duration scale'''
This will speed up everything and improve battery life just a bit.
And that's it from me, if I remember anything else, I'll make sure to add it, and please make sure to tell me anything that works for you, I'll happily add it.
If you want to get absolutely the best battery life out of your device, you must install a custom kernel. I'm using Fenix currently.
Also, turn off printing service. This idiotic thing is turned on by default. It keeps sucking battery for no reason at all. I'm not using stock ROM now but you can find it by going to: Settings>Bluetooth & Devices (or something similar)
Can you post the link of the thread for enabling dark mode I would like to try that.
Another tip - switch to airplane mode, mobile network is one of the biggest battery consumer..
But seriously, how does greyscale mode save the battery? Instead of glowing one of the subpixels for displaying a color, all of them must be shining to provide different shades of white color. It might even use more power.
Width change and animation duration scale have some very interesting thinking behind them, it will have absolutely no impact on the battery.
Dudes, just enjoy and use the phone. Why do you want to cripple your experience just to gain extra few percents of battery per day? If you're living of the grid, there are much better phones for such a lifestyle.

There's an XDA article comparing battery saving with AMOLED on black and grey theme, you might want to check it out, or you can also watch a video by Mrwhosetheboss to see how it went for him. As for animation speed and DPI, they have the least effect on battery life as I've stated above. Kindly do some research before you start making claims.

It requires you to have Magisk tho.

Where exactly in the article does it say that monochrome display saves power over colored one? Actually it's you who started with unique claims, so please provide some proof.
I'm wondering what kinda battery life you get on the zfold3. When I opened youtube with the big screen on my accusatory app says it dr omegle ains 32%/hr does anyone else have any knowledge of if this is normal rate or high? I got it on ebay so I'm trying to make sure that everything is running as expected.
...
Also if I open lifeafter and play it while fast charging the back of the phone gets really realty hot! Think it was in the 120-130° range xender and screen goes really dim. Anyone else experience this on any slightly more demanding games?
When I watch videos on YouTube with the Fold open I have the same behavior as you, I reduced this by forcing the refresh to 48hz on the videos. For games I don't know, however it consumes when open.
Use manual brightness control and keep below 50% Display brightness sucks a lot of battery.
Using dark mode and wallpaper helps too.
Black pixels use no power... darker ones use a lot less.
Once the OS learns your usage patterns, you should experience much better battery life. That usually take around a month or 2.

Lol, it never worked that I saw. Google global power management and it's tarded buckets will also cause erratic behaviors that can't be resolved unless you turn it off.
Hand optimizing is better, harder to do... but it works.
