I have a sprint note 2 on 4.3. I never got full root because of Knox. It blocked any attempt for me to download the binary for supersu. I want to unroot so I can take it into best buy to make an insurance claim to get a new one. I have to have the counter reset to zero and be reverted to stock revovery (I currently have twrp). I tried doing the OTA update, however the phone boots into the custom recovery and that does not allow the update to go through. Can anyone help me unroot my phone even though I never had full root?

So I rooted my phone using the method outlined in this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687
I used odin to flash the 4.1.2 T-Mobile image and I stopped at the part that said "If you just want a stock, rooted phone with no custom recovery, no plans to flash custom roms, etc. then you can stop HERE" because I only wanted root so I could fix the keyboard bug (keyboard would revert to stock one after resets).
So my question is, can I update to 4.3 via the OTA update that is in the About Device > Software Update section in the phone? Looking elsewhere the official instructions say that the phone should not be rooted before updating. If so, can I get rid of the root in order to update? (As far as I know, the keyboard bug doesn't exist in 4.3 anyway so I don't think I need the root anymore). If not, how can I update to 4.3?
Lastly, and somewhat unrelated, can I use the factory data reset in the Back up and reset section of the settings? Previously in my experience with roms, this would lead to a boot loop but I'm not sure if that is the case with this so-called rooted stock rom.
Thanks in advance.
You can use OTA RootKeeper to temporarily disable Root so that you will receive the update. Or you could also visit the Root66 thread you have linked. There you will see Rooted version of the 4.3 update.
Having said that, You will want to Research the consequences of the 4.3 Stock update. In particular you wish to research the consequences of CIQ, KNOX and the new EFuse Bootloader.
I am by no means an expert but I figure I just did this so it may help you out. I updated my phone to 4.3 accidentally on purpose and then I decided to root my phone like the next day. I used Mr Robinson's method and then used his third method to download the ROM manager and install CWM Recovery and then I put Cyanogen on it. I have not had any issues except the app Trailer Addict doesn't work with it but that is not a big issue. I have everything else that I wanted and more. I don't care about the flash counter since I am not under warranty. Oh and you can use Titanium Backup to back up your apps. I didn't do this the first time so I had to back up from Kies 3 by dragging files onto my SD card and not all worked. I hope I helped a little.
My USB is officially failing and somehow Samsung says I'm still in warranty so I'm going to try to send it back, but I need some assistance with downgrading because I honestly don't know what steps I need to take.
1) I am on jedi master x2 4.3 rom.
2) I have devil kernel, I never took the 4.3 ota so there isn't any knox on my phone.
3) I have the new tmobile modem.
4) I have TWRP as a custom recovery.
5) I also have triangle away from the play store if necessary.
My question is what steps do I need to take to put this phone on 4.1.2 so I can ship it back to samsung. I don't want to load 4.3 because I don't want to trip the counter.
Edit: Also adding as my usb is failing it cannot connect to pc so I can't use odin
Nvm got it done! Thank you mobile odin . My note is ready to go back.
Hello,
Seeing how future updates to the Note 3 supposedly causes the knox warranty void flag to be tripped for rooting with RDLV... Is it a good idea to root our devices now while we can? As in, rooting before one of these updates will both keep root on the device and have knox warranty flag 0x0 after updating to kitkat?
Bumping! I suppose it would be easy for Samsung to release an update that triggers knox counter if root is detected... I've never rooted a device though. So my question is do phones keep root when you receive an android update?
If you are rooted, you normally don't want an update over the air. There so far have been no updates to the T-Mobile version of the note 3 though.
Well I was wondering about that as well. I keep reading that the Tmo Note 3's bootloader is unlocked. If it is truly unlocked would it not matter to take updates as we should be able to continue to root and put a custom recovery back on the phone? I mean i personally would wait to know if it is safe to take an OTA before actually taking it. I came from the VZW S4 which had that crazy locked down bootloader after the 1st OTA (I luckily never took an OTA and it's on the original FW). I mean I guess they can always lock down a bootloader on any OTA but why would they if it came already unlocked?
All the ota does is download via wifi or data for the update...that is the only difference... it doesn't do any extra checking or anything like that. The only thing that will happen is after the update has been downloaded it will flash your phone and then it will erase root because it will be flashing the phone back to a stock new firmware. You then would have to root your phone again.

If you are rooted and you accept an OTA or KIES update or if you Odin flash official
stock firmwareyou will lose root but you can root the phone again if you want.
Fortunately all the cwm/twrp flashable custom roms found here in XDA
all come pre-rooted and if you flash one of those you will not lose root.
Either way you will trigger the KNOX if you flash kernels, custom roms or custom recoveries.
The only two things that KNOX does is it prevents you from downgrading to an older version
of the rom and or firmware as well as the possibility of voiding your warrany if you have one.
Good luck!
Hey everybody,
I have a rooted N7100 on stock 4.3. I used triangle away and the normal counters are back to factory default. However the knox warranty void flag has been triggered.
Three questions:
- I'd like to receive OTA updates. But it looks like the knox flag is getting checked since I get "Your software has been mofified.." while checking for updates. Is there any way at all to remove the knox flag on a rooted note 2 with stock 4.3?
- If the question to above is a no, would flashing stock rom/bootloader all the way again patch the knox flag?
- If I'd like to flash my phone with the latest stock rom, I'm assuming the device gets wiped? Is there anything that'd let me backup my settings/files/apps/texts and have it restored once I flash the new rom? (I'm not sure if Titanium is the right software for this).
PS: My wararntly is long gone, but I'd like to have OTAs without having the phone wiped (like how I used to) OR manually flash the new stock ROMs without losing data. Any ideas?
Please help me out.
Thanks!
I have an issue with a modified status with a stock ROM, my device keep to say modified without root, I find out that the status revert back to normal without the SD Card.
It is to annoying to triangle away, disable root, remove sd card and update with ota. Now I download the update on Sammobile and I update with Mobile Odin.

Why bother at all, when your phone is no more warranty, 0 or 1 does not make a difference when u send in for repair, Samsung will still charge you for the service repair job.
Haha you're right, today I have a dual boot with 2 custom ROM. **** da police.
But I gave one OTA solution for the OP.
If I am in the wrong forum, I apologize.
Last year I rooted my sprint note 2 with odin, running version 4.1.2
My questions are these please:
1) Iin superuse ( don't know how I got Superuser Su) there is an option called unroot, if i click this will i be back to the destate rom of the phone since all I did was root originally without installing a custom rom. Will I then be able to receive the OTA that is being pushed out now? My concern too is losing wi fi-tether if I unroot, take an ota and reroot. I guess I didn;t realize you can root while still keping your original rom.
I wonder what would have happenned if i took the OTA being pushed to me, would I brick the phone or be stuck at the bootloader?
2) I have a wi fi tether app, after I receive an OTA and reroot will I be able to regain that access?
3) If I choose to do nothing but get back to it’s original state, will the volume boost hacks I ran and the no camera shutter click be erased or will they remain . But most importantly and how do i reset the binary counter back to zero?
4) is there a one stop program that does this all for you without pushing volume down, power and home simultaneously?
5) Lastly, mobile odin, good idea?
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any reply!
