It definitely helped me. I was having some terrible keyboard lag that was mostly resolved by switching to ART
Also helped me a great deal. Most of the lag was gone with animations set to zero and switching to nova. Changing to art then made it nexus 5 smooth for me
There are reports of ART messing with Bluetooth audio though. But it's been said to help with UI performance, yes
ART pretty much eliminated the UI lag for me. It was within tolerable range before the switch, but it's pretty much gone with ART. I would certainly recommend giving it a try.

I use Bluetooth audio in my car every day.
The reason I went from note 3 to m8 was due to size. How big is the g3 compared to the m8?
I miss removable batteries and hoping T-Mobile carries the 3gb ram version

At the risk of angering a lot of people on here I wish to put forward the view that 99% of the increase in performance people believe they get on ART is just placebo at this time.
The ART build on the G3 is the ART build that came with android 4.4.2 - this is now very outdated and in no way reflects the power of ART on the Android L. There are various articles and youtube videos showing that there are virtually no differences between dalvik and ART on android 4.4.2 and indeed most top developers recommended (and still do!) that you don't use ART until android L.
In terms of real world experience, I have had my D855 since release day, I spent one week on Dalvik, then one week on ART, I was amazed by the performance increase (I tweeted about it a lot!) then I switched back to Dalvik for the last 4 days and I have had no drop in performance.
Anyone who has spent a lengthy period on ART I implore you to switch back to Dalvik for a few days, you will be surprised by how little the differences actually are.

I've been an advocate of ART since 4.4 KitKat. On my nexus 5, ART makes multitasking faster than when using Dalvik. I also see a little less stutter when scrolling through pages with a lot of 'post' type elements. This isn't a night and day comparison, but it is definitely noticeable on my end. You can say it's a placebo, but in my eyes, there is a micro-stutter on Dalvik when pressing the multitasking button as well as when switching to another app.
I'm not saying you're wrong and demanding that I'm right. It's just been my experience. I switch apps and multitask a lot, so it's very noticeable for me. I don't see any benchmark improvements, I don't see any increase in battery life, but I do see a difference on my Nexus 5.
I'll give the G3 a week or so on Dalvik before I make the switch though. It depend on how often I see this UI lag that everyone has been talking about. I'll be getting my G3 sometime today. Hopefully before lunch
I should note that I don't sacrifice anything when using ART. All of my apps work on ART just like they do on Dalvik. So it's not like I'm losing anything by using ART instead of Dalvik(on my N5)

I did just that because I wanted to use Xposed and it's Lag City everywhere!! The slowness is really getting on my nerves.. maybe it's time for a factory reset..
Let's hope Xposed runs on ART in the very near future...
*edit*
I found the reason for the lag, it was xPrivacy! once I got rid of it, the lag improved quite a lot. Not as good as a brand new phone but much better than previously. Interestingly enough xPrivacy didn't lag my note 3 at all..
I ran my D850 on Dalvik for the first day. It seemed a little laggy.
Switched to ART on the second day - thought I saw a small improvement, but it could have been placebo. Installed Nova and froze a bunch of the bloat.
Here's the kicker: I then installed Xposed and used the D850 for several hours before I realized that it had switched back to Dalvik. I never noticed a drop in performance. I would argue that changing the launcher, installing Xposed mods, and the G3 TweaksBox, made a much bigger impact on performance than ART.
This phone also takes a much longer time than normal to "settle" in. I was having terrible keyboard lag the first day which slowly let up over time. Now a week and a half later I don't have issues with it but I did switch to ART on day 2. I don't have any apps that aren't incompatible with ART so I won't be switching back. All I know is I lagged like a ***** the first day and a half and switching to art gave me a bit of speed over time. Now it's flawless. Would it be the same with dalvik? Maybe. I'm not willing to try. I need the phone for work and I type long emails and it was horrendous before.

Hi guys!
I just read an article in android authority that ART will make android device faster than using dalvik
Yes! ART makes loading faster than dalvik and it's a good news right?
I thought that ART will only cut the loading time but on the comments people are saying that ART will also make scrolling and switching apps faster than using dalvik.
How is that possible? Isn't ART cuts execution time in half and how does that makes scrolling faster?
And if that is true, is android 4.4 update will transform the current nexus 7 to beat up the iPad mini with retina display ( discarding it's processor) And end the debate that android is laggy?
Finally can we expect an OMG experience upgrading to kitkat?
Apparently I cannot share the android authority link to you guys because I'm a newbie in XDA
Shame...
It helps because the cpu requires less work.
Not sure it will beat the iPad mini. Apple is still pretty far ahead in terms of native tablet apps and it just appeals to different people. I know I bought the nexus just because of the price and it's the best bang for buck.
But ART is definitely a step in the right direction. I'm looking forward to it more for the battery life improvements with my HTC one.
Apple and ios is still better though with its native process. It's the fastest, but ART definitely cut the gap between native and dalvik.

I will definitely try ART because I don't use Whatsapp, which is not working with ART on my Nexus 5.

ART doesnt makes it faster than iPad, but eliminates micro lags, freezes, loading time and other weird stuff caused by Dalvik
Also it saves power (In theory)
Its possible cause ART is AOT compiler, and Dalvik using JIT ie ART doesnt waste power on endless code converting and caching on fly since whole code will be compiled during app installation.

IMO, Android 4.4 is really fast and is pretty much on par with iOS 7 already. Sometimes Android beats iOS in terms of loading times, scrolling, etc while iOS beats Android other times too. ART doesn't seem to be very stable right now, but I'd expect it to give Android an extra boost in performance. All in all, I think that there really isn't much to compare anymore, both OS are pretty much equal in smoothness and performance

I'm kind of in the same boat. One of my employees got the G3 (I currently have the G2 and love it but I'm cursed bc my brain thinks I always have to have latest awesome sauce phone. ugh) and his battery life has been horrendous. I'm talking half of what the G2 can do. I know that QHD display will chew battery and all but that seems overly ridiculous. In the span of an hour he went from 100% to 82%. I checked his device for every possible thing that could be causing it and found nothing abnormal. His android system usage is at a constant 47%. I went through apps he didn't use and disabled what I could (he's not rooted. Doesn't really know much about android but I converted him with my constant iPhone bashing =D) without Titanium Backup and from what I can tell it just seems like the stock software of the G3 really isn't optimized all that well for performance v battery life. Nowhere near what the G2 accomplished. It's disappointing bc the device looks amazing but if the phone drains that rapidly for seemingly no reason I am going to hold off until they hopefully release a software update to fix the drain. It may very well be he got unlucky and got a lemon battery or it could be LG didn't put a large enough battery in the device (only 200 mAh larger than the G2) to handle that screen. I'm kind of leery of the device now. I am waiting to see more user reviews of the device. A lot of review from tech sites keep saying the battery life is good but not great. I don't consider a device barely making it through an entire work day with limited use good.

If his android system is using that much battery there's something turned on that shouldn't be. I highly doubt an OEM would go backwards in terms of optimization. Android system could be a number of things like WiFi scanning always on or location reporting on high accuracy.

Im aware the device shouldnt be throwing those system totals out but it is. Ive checked everything and compared his G3 settings to my G2 (running Optimus G3) and changed literally everything to my setup. Didnt make a difference. Its weird man. Ive never seen system usage like that and then havent be able to find the culprit.
I had a note 3 and the G3 was a big upgrade. Is much better and for me the battery life is better. The UI is much better looking and there is less lg bloat in the system then tw has. My wife's s5 has a baby monitor progress running stock. Who needs this? It's just dumb little things like that that bother me about tw.

I wouldn't mind the heating or lag, the random shutdown on the other hand is really something to be aware of. Happened twice to me this day...:-\
Battery life is great to me. 15-20hrs of standby with 5.5hrs of screen on time.

Just FWIW, you can't judge battery life on an occasional dip in the percentage. The battery meter isn't perfect. You'll find tons of people finding that the percentage sits at 100% for an hour and then drops quickly after that. The battery didn't simply not drain for an hour and then start draining quickly, it's the software trying to approximate. Go from full charge to near dead and see what happens.
I get great battery life. Only issue I have is the camera. Pics just don't seem that great.

Coming from the G2 I thought this phone would be much quicker but it has been struggling. I haven't even installed all of my apps yet, and it's already really slow. Multitasking on this phone is not that much faster than the G2 for me. Maybe it is the stock launcher?
Also the Smart Lock is really iffy. Sometimes it doesn't work when I am at home, I think it's because it takes a couple of seconds for it to realize I am at home. Other times when I am out to it doesn't lock it when it should be.
Going to wait until I can root it and hopefully with some changes it gets better. At this point I am really disappointed by the performance. Just as I was typing this and listening to Spotify the phone is lagging while I am trying to turn up the volume.
I find the G2 is still a power house. Perfomance is not that different. I was a bit disappointed in the difference. Aside from the bigger screen, camera, and form factor, it doesnt really seem that different.
Supoosedly there are some background services hogging resources. LG came out and said it was the LG keyboard. Others reported disabling the MultiWindow feature also helps.
It isnt a huge upgrade but I believe it is just initial quirks that need ironing out.
I noticed that my g4 was running slow when I had an SD card installed. It runs smoother without one.
Coming from the Note family, I can say this phone is on par with the Note 4/Edge in terms of performance for day to day activities, with significantly better battery life. My G4 is fast, performs really well with minimal lag. The only lag I noticed is when using the LG keyboard. I installed SwiftKey and my phone now is (almost) lag free. You might need to reset your phone and see if that helps, as I see a lot of members here got their G4 issues resolved after a good fresh restore.
There are 20 other threads with same topic.

I always factory refresh from the store because they typically skip the initial setup steps. My G4 was acting crazy before that. My friend got a G4 new deliver and set it up herself and has been acting fine. Maybe one of the background apps is constantly looking for a skipped response and eating resources.
Thanks for the replies. As for this being posted before I didn't see it and I wanted to explain my experience / specifics.
I might try the factory reset and see if that helps. As for the sd card it would be hard to remove because it's the main reason I upgraded the phone. Also going to turn off multi window, I don't use it anyway.
Do you use Lastpass?

Odd, I felt my G4 was getting pretty laggy using Google Now Launcher and switched back to the LG Launcher, which has been perfectly smooth and lag free for me so far.
I have an S6 as well that I had for a month before the G4 and it is definitely faster and smoother (except in Chrome), but I love the larger screen and awesome manual camera controls on the G4. Tough decision for sure. If the G4 was as fast and smooth as the S6, it would be no contest for me, G4 all the way. Still leaning towards the G4 though. Want to wait for the next update on each before making my final decision about which to sell.

Yea I don't know has worked for me, the battery life is for sure longer, but it's all negligible, it may be the phone just settling in, I am hoping that LG will come out with a minor update to address some of the lag and other issues, the s6 is faster though, it also has a faster processor and better GPU. but I feel the camera, screen size, design, Expandable memory and a few other things make it worth it, free extra battery and SD doesn't hurt either.

Thank you for all of your suggestions. To the person who asked about lastpass, I don't use it on my phone, love using it on the PC.
I disabled multi window and it has made it a tiny bit faster. Still lagging way more than a 2015 flagship should during normal operation.
I want to install nova launcher but I spent a lot of time setting up folders in the stock app drawer, not fun to set it up all over again.
The S6 is definitely faster than our phones, but as mentioned there are other attributes of the G4 that mean more to some of us. Still, I think this phone should be faster than what I am experiencing. Instead of the free battery promotion I wish they had spent the money on the processor or further optimization.
Turn on force gpu rendering and use google keyboard. Will make your life easier.

Nova can instantly import the folders, CMIIW. shouldn't be a problem
I tried importing but I don't think nova allows folders in the app drawer, didn't work for me. Also by using nova I lose the stock calendar widget that shows the month view with events on it, it has been like this forever, maybe there is workaround?
Definitely laggy. Coming from a faster Note 4. It blows my mind and aggravates me so much when a brand new phone can lag like this. Maybe it's the Slacker app... But I notice when running this and switching between hangouts.. It'll straight up freeze for 3-5 second sometimes. Note 4 never did this. Hoping a patch fixes this beta.
The G3 seems great in almost every category, but I've seen a few issues in its performance that worries me a bit. I've seen some speed tests that show pretty long load times when opening apps(Mostly Chrome/youtube) and really poor background app management, needing to re-open every app instead of keeping it open in the background. I wanted to ask if those problems are common and if so, are they still happening in lollipop or in custom roms?
Also, I'm pretty low on budget, so I'm thinking about the 2GB ram version instead of the 3GB. Is the difference between the 2 versions noticable? Or will I be fine with the 2gbs?
Thanks.

I just recently got mine, been using it for about 3 weeks, and I have yet to have any of the issues you are describing. I have no issues loading apps, and I am using the Jasmine rom for 5.1.1, hope this helps. As for the 2gb/3gb, I have only used the 3gb, so I can't help you there.
Go for 3gb version..if you can
I got mine about 3 months ago. At first, I just could at most 2:30/3 hours SOT. Now Im using XenonHD. I get at least six hours, even 7: 30h. With some mods, tweaks and patience battery ceased to be a concern for me.
My model is the 16GB / 2GB ram. I never felt any great impact on performance when multitasking
I know it's been some time since the 5X came out and I'm thinking of ordering one. Has Google addressed the lag issues that plagued the phone when it first came out? How would you rate smoothness and performance?
I bought one a few days ago , it doesn't lag at all and in term of performance it's really good! It's fluid.
got mine in early december. stock, rooted, adaway, deactivated transition animations (literally all the changes i made). no lag issues so far, app switching is smooth and launching an app is subjectivly as quick as to be expected. from my experience and what i've read it can easily keep up with the SGS6.
If you're stock, then yes.
If you're modding and have custom kernel, then potentially no.
Lag on 5x? Can't say I experienced that.

Experience the lag quite often now. Especially if I don't reboot it for an extended period of time. Most aggravated by camera use. If I never use the camera, it takes a significantly longer period of time before it starts to lag. If I'm traveling and using the camera constantly, I need to reboot by end of day to get the phone functional again.
Honestly any bit of "lag" issues you may have heard about is nitpicking...the overall experience is very fluid and fast.

I've had my device for a couple days and haven't had any lag issues what so ever on completely stock unrooted and have used the device a good bit. It makes me think that whatever was an issue when the phone was first released was a hardware issue that has since been resolved behind closed doors.

I have two, one is mine and one is my wife's. I bought them both on release and hers has been quite the headache. It's already been replaced once for issues with unreasonable amounts of lag compared to mine. Mine has been mostly fine, with the same pain points like Camera/Chrome as her but not as bad. I'm not quite as demanding of the phone as she is. I recently wiped mine and went to an AOSP rom with the ElementalX kernel and haven't experienced any of the same lag doing the same exact same tasks. I may wipe hers first and try the same set up before exchanging it again. I'm leaning heavily towards Google just did not optimize the stock kernel for the 808 chip at all. I really feel like they booted up the first build and went "OK it works, let's ship it" without doing any real testing and optimizing like other manufacturers seem to have done (LG G4, Moto X Pure, basically any other 808 phone).
My phone has never had lag. Smooth as butter.

I know it's been some time since the 5X came out and I'm thinking of ordering one. Has Google addressed the lag issues that plagued the phone when it first came out? How would you rate smoothness and performance?

It's there for some and that's probably not going to change. Here's one popular android blog (Android Central) that recently wrote a "3 months w/ the 5X" article. Multiple editors provided their thoughts.
It is hit or miss for me. This is my first Nexus so I don't notice lag often but it is there even though I am decrypted and running a custom rom/kernel. My experience has been mostly positive, I love using the 5X. If I were coming from a previous Nexus, I probably would notice the difference in performance right away however my last device was a dual core S3.

Nope, stock device here (no root) with zero lag. Snappy performance and the camera is always quick. I only reboot about once per month for the monthly security OTA.
Besides, most CPU governors are tweaked to increase battery life by decreasing clock speeds. Not to increase performance.

I got mine on release day and my device does not lag. The majority of devices do not we're just 10x more likely to hear from those with issues then those without. There has been no hardware revision or change in the 5x, just software updates.

My last device was the Nexus 5. The 5x is just as snappy and the graphics performance is far ahead. My device is stock and not rooted BTW. Based on user experiences I've been reading, those with issues are in the minority and experiencing 3rd party software issues. Many have reported success by doing a factory reset without restoring data from another device.
BTW that article is a joke IMO. The only person who mentions how often their performance issues occur mentioned "about once per week" and the rest don't even say.
Obviously some people are having problems with device performance, but I don't believe it's inherent to the device as most are not experiencing such issues and problems only seem to arise once certain types or amounts of background services are running.
My theory: 2GB of RAM on 64 bit OS fills up quicker than 2gb running 32bit. Users are overloading their RAM with background services (possibly aided by a memory leak ala Android 5). It's no secret that many 3rd party background services have really bad memory management.
Yes lag is there. Fresh reset camera everything runs great. Give it a few days (3-4 for me) and you can stop using your camera. Pictures will take 5 seconds to process. I'm not exaggerating. No software fix in sight, and not a peep from Google about this being an issue or a fix in the works. Feel pretty jipped being a pre-order customer.

I can second this totally. Pre-ordered the device and seeing lag especially when using the camera...
not really

It totally depends on how you use it. Overall it's a nice phone

I run custom everything and I prefer it. OOTB, left some things to be desired even though my overall Nexus experience has been great. I agree, we'll always here complaints over positive experiences.
Your theory on ram makes sense from a general level of understanding. For me, ram management on here is awful. A few apps, Maps for instance, reload all too quickly.

I can also second this, I'm looking for custom ROM that will make phone usable again. At this point, I resent returning the N6.

Short answer, yes it lags and pretty bad. I have to power cycle daily to make it usable. I also thought most reviewers were making unrealistic expectations and we're nitpicking but apparently they weren't
Yes, especially with thermal throttling such as when using navigation, taking videos, or multiple photos in succession.
Mine is horrible. Lag when opening the camera, lag when browsing chrome. My phone is encrypted and I have android wear. Honestly the only thing good about this phone versues my nexus 5 is the fingerprint scanner and the front facing speaker and way better battery life. Other than that I am not liking this phone at all.
I've not been on XDA for quite some time but came on today looming for answers to lag on my 5x.
Totally stock, gets above average use I'd guess, and it starts to lag several times a week.
I I stalled an app called Fast Reboot which seems to help without having to go through the pain of a full power off - but after a couple of weeks that makes little difference now.
Full reboot restores speed, but using the camera a coue of times instantly returns the lag - can take 30 sec+ for camera app to take a photo or close. However the lag starts after a day or two even if I don't use camera at all.
Maybe try a replacement from Google seeing as it seems hit and miss rather than a clear manufacturing/ ROM issue across them all.
