[Q] Battery Life between the HTC ONE M7 and the G3? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

All,
I'm thinking of picking up the G3, but with all this talk of the battery life, how is it compared to my current daily driver the Htc One M7? I'm hoping its better and not equal to the M7 right?
Any info is appreciated!

Stay with the HTC or get m8. I'm going to sell my g3. Nice phone but rubbish performance and too many issues like it not working with some aux cables

I upgraded from a m7 and I'm loving my g3 so far. If I decide to swap it for an m8 it's only for the dev support.
I'm 3 days into my g3 and battery life has been way better than my m7. I did root and remove bloat. Got 5 hrs of screen time with 30% left yesterday, never got close to that on my m7.
Any more questions about comparisons to the m7 feel free to ask

Wow, uh like 99 out of 1oo reviews say the g3 performs great. Your unique

I got my G3 on friday about midday and am on my second charge. I got 34 hrs with 4 hours of screen time and no battery saver enabled until it completely died. I need to go through a couple more full charge/discharges till the battery is fully broken in. So i would take any battery complaints with a grain of salt as the phone hasnt been out for a week so the battery hasnt been really been broken in.

also once L hits the g3 the battery life should see a good bump as well

[Q] Improve battery life?

New T-Mobile HTC One M8 user here, been using it SIM unlocked on TMobile (used Jump!) and StraightTalk's AT&T 4G LTE.
Well I'm at about 31% and charging.
Any tips on improving battery life? I always keep my brightness rather low, but my battery life is much worse than my Nexus 5's. Almost thinking of exchanging for S5 as the removable battery may help.
This is not a rant or hate thread, I simply want to ask other T-Mobile HTC One M8 users their experiences.
Seriously I'm having to charge once or twice per day. My dad has the M8 on VZW and his phone gets much better battery life, I almost feel like my phone is defective. That or the TMO version uses more battery life.
BTW Wi-Fi is off.
Thanks,
Thomas

I make it through a full day here, I'm used to the batt life of a note3, so it takes some getting used to. I have bluetooth/wifi on all day, with facebook/g+/twitter/4emails syncing (evy 15min). I used titanium backup to freeze all the apps I dont use or wont use... ie all tmo apps, ant+, etc also use greenify for help also...

Ah thanks. Nice Kakashi Chibi
Make sure you get Lookout off and try to get rid of it if possible. Nuke Carrier IQ in to the sun. I use Lux to autoadjust the brightness and that seems to help a lot. If you really need help look in to JuiceDefender. I can easily go a day without charging, and I haven't enabled JuiceDefender yet.
Disabling Google Now and restarting helps. Apparently there is a bug in kit kat that hammers the CPU and drives the android ui usage up with it enabled.

I honestly think it depends on how you are treating the battery and using your phone. Remember new phones get used more initially. You can get an S5 but that doesn't mean you'll get better battery life. Also, please don't take it from me. There are professionals that have shown the M8 to have better battery life than even the Note 3 and S5.
Proof M8 has competitive battery life

I'm kind of in the same boat. One of my employees got the G3 (I currently have the G2 and love it but I'm cursed bc my brain thinks I always have to have latest awesome sauce phone. ugh) and his battery life has been horrendous. I'm talking half of what the G2 can do. I know that QHD display will chew battery and all but that seems overly ridiculous. In the span of an hour he went from 100% to 82%. I checked his device for every possible thing that could be causing it and found nothing abnormal. His android system usage is at a constant 47%. I went through apps he didn't use and disabled what I could (he's not rooted. Doesn't really know much about android but I converted him with my constant iPhone bashing =D) without Titanium Backup and from what I can tell it just seems like the stock software of the G3 really isn't optimized all that well for performance v battery life. Nowhere near what the G2 accomplished. It's disappointing bc the device looks amazing but if the phone drains that rapidly for seemingly no reason I am going to hold off until they hopefully release a software update to fix the drain. It may very well be he got unlucky and got a lemon battery or it could be LG didn't put a large enough battery in the device (only 200 mAh larger than the G2) to handle that screen. I'm kind of leery of the device now. I am waiting to see more user reviews of the device. A lot of review from tech sites keep saying the battery life is good but not great. I don't consider a device barely making it through an entire work day with limited use good.

If his android system is using that much battery there's something turned on that shouldn't be. I highly doubt an OEM would go backwards in terms of optimization. Android system could be a number of things like WiFi scanning always on or location reporting on high accuracy.
I have both. Selling my Note 3

Im aware the device shouldnt be throwing those system totals out but it is. Ive checked everything and compared his G3 settings to my G2 (running Optimus G3) and changed literally everything to my setup. Didnt make a difference. Its weird man. Ive never seen system usage like that and then havent be able to find the culprit.
I had a note 3 and the G3 was a big upgrade. Is much better and for me the battery life is better. The UI is much better looking and there is less lg bloat in the system then tw has. My wife's s5 has a baby monitor progress running stock. Who needs this? It's just dumb little things like that that bother me about tw.

I wouldn't mind the heating or lag, the random shutdown on the other hand is really something to be aware of. Happened twice to me this day...:-\
Battery life is great to me. 15-20hrs of standby with 5.5hrs of screen on time.

I've had the G3 since it was released, get almost 2 days or more battery after disabling a bunch of apps, till they get root for the Sprint variant.

Just FWIW, you can't judge battery life on an occasional dip in the percentage. The battery meter isn't perfect. You'll find tons of people finding that the percentage sits at 100% for an hour and then drops quickly after that. The battery didn't simply not drain for an hour and then start draining quickly, it's the software trying to approximate. Go from full charge to near dead and see what happens.
I get great battery life. Only issue I have is the camera. Pics just don't seem that great.

Im used to a iPhone 4 with 5MP so i don't think its going to be worse then the LG G3 camera

Help me decide

Hi guys. Help me decide. I don't know which phone to get. Right now my S5 is at an auction on ebay and I was thinking of replacing it with the G3 but the problem for me is battery life. How bad is the on screen time? I would settle with an M8 but i just can't handle the camera.

exactly the same for me..i have the G3 and the S5 i know it's not the same screen but i'm waitin' for the new 10g update to see the battery life and if it's nt concluant i will sell it.
The S5 definitely got better battery life (screen on time)
It would be a bit worse/on par with the M8 i had 2 months ago!
The battery is not bad but also not that good.. maybe with some tweaks like greenify, rooting, freezing apps.
I get about 3 hours SOT and 1/1,5 days
Edit: I have the 10G software
There is like 2 threads about battery life already.
Search.
I had a s5 and I never got the screen on time as I do now with the g3! All depends on your usage
Sent from my LG-D850 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
exactly..it depends your usage.
I get around 6 hours of SOT, thats enough for me. With ART and nova launcher there is also no lagg at all. I considered tobuy the m8 too but since it was the size of the G3 witha smaller screen i chose the G3. I just couldn' get over how much space HTC wasted with the stupid logo in the front. If it's really necessary like they say, they could have at least kept the buttons like on the m7. This way you have the wasted space and onscreen buttons which take away even more screen.

buying G3...

hi guys, my brother wanna buy a new phone, he's confused, he has to decide in the next month, the G3 is one of the options, but i am not sure about it, does the G3 lag? heat up? i need some info from you guys...THANKS A LOT

Dude do not go buy G3 its a piece of crap. The 2K screen takes up more than 50% of the 2GB RAM that is allocated and Battery Life its unbelivably bad. Lollipop sucks ass as well, battery is even worse than KitKat
Get a Xperia Z3 with a Unlocked Bootloader and the world is your oyster
Dude you serious? Clearly using it wrong
I get two days of battery life on stock based lollipop 5.0 rom.
No lag either.
Although the device does heat up when your using it heavily but its not an issue in my opinion.
This device gets a lot of complaints but with a few tweaks all these issues that people whine about can be fixed
Battery is great with 2 day use. Only heats up when using heavy apps like YouTube and games.
I can't give you a accurate result because I'm running CM12 with custom kernals and I can easily get 3-4 days with a bit of use.

G3 Boot loader is unlocked sorta. 2k screen take barely no battery and depends on what you use it for. You probably haven't used it for a week. You can get a 3Gb model that comes with 32gb internal.
Please use it correctly and better research. Thanks =)

Have the phone for 5 months. After the lolipop upgrade, battery doesn't last more then 48 hours (on how I use it). 4G opened 24/7, emailing, browsing, reading the news but I'm not playing any games. I was a HTC fan but loved this phone since I put my hands on it.
I'd recommend this phone to anyone who what's to buy a new phone. The screen is awesome and it doesn't take a lot of battery, considering that is 2k. My phone rarely heats up but considering that I don't play any games ... can't say more. If your bro decides to buy it also get a quick circle case.

G4 had terrible system drain issues after mm. While M8 had tremendously improved battery life with mm.
You can always count HTC for better sw.

I have both lol g4 had to be factory reset after mm update to regain battery life but m8 roared like a champ
Context. Coming from m8 m9 now s7 edge waiting on this 10. M8 awesome battery m9 was alright. The s7 edge I having does not have any draining issues, but I read some do have the issue... But if you have a device that doesn't have any issues. The battery life is pretty damn good. Just wanted to say it's not all devices. I'm in no way a Samsung fanboy either
I believe HTC 10 will be released with an updated version of MM, different than what the G4 is running. HTC is also pretty good at optimizing their skin so any faults would probably be battery related.
Expect better battery life on the 10 than either the M8 or M9.

I used to get between 8 to 10 hours SOT and up to 2day battery life on m8. Getting back to that would be amazing!!! On g4 currently and struggle to get 6 hours SOT or more than a days battery life
Apparently the S7 drain issues were fixed on those devices that just got an update pushed.. T-Mobile comes to mind right away.
Also apparently, the M10 has absolutely fantastic battery life
