Cause of Battery drain kitkat - Sony Xperia ZL

Now I'm pretty sure that battery drain happen because the phone can't found location by network service and WiFi, but gps is still working. Because it can't find location by network/WiFi so the battery drain start, only restart can fix it(at least that's my solution, after restart Google map can start to give location via network/wifi and when battery drain happened it colored grey)
So maybe some developer can fix this? Because I ever found this problem in my last phone, xperia u using custom ROM, and after several update this bug gone, so I'm sure that there is a way to fix this location service which sometimes not working

Bad Android System battery drain

Hi I'm having a bad battery drain from android system. I'm assuming it's a wake lock but I can't figure it out by looking at better battery stats so if someone cud remind me the adb command to pull the history and take a look at it if really appreciate it.

What I found about this problem on my GS3 is that this happen when I use Google maps and Navigation. It seems to keep the location services even when application is closed. I was able to reproduce this 3 times now. The way to fixed is to go to all applications find the Maps then remove all updates and then try to Disable the application then reboot ( you can't completely disable the Maps because is considering a system apps and after the reboot will start again but you can do the same thing one more time or until android system change to system from Gsiff_daemon or gone as aprocess). Then you can install again Google maps updates. Eventually will happen again but let's hope for update from Samsung or Google maps.
Here is the solution if you want to delete Gsiff_daemon file since you are rooted. To see if you have this problem hit the reflesh button on your battery summary screen:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30531242&postcount=185
Also here is the whole tread about Gsiff_daemon problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1755180
IN RELATION TO GSIFF_DAEMON
do any of you guys have the "increase volume in pocket" setting on in phone-->settings?
also do any of you have motion settings enabled and/or autorotation on?
Seems it has to do with the gyro issue
also are you guys rooted or non-rooted?
Crapppp
Jellybean didn’t solve it. Gsiff_daemon just popped up for me. Just renamed it AGAIN.
Hopefully it won't pop up again

Bad android system battery drain
Hey guys,
so if nobody found the solution yet to this problem, i have a possible one. I researched all day today about this problem and decided to start testing things. After doing a few tests, my battery at the moment is doing great. Its estimated time remaining on standby is 12 days. its kinda crazy lol.
anyways so I took off my LTE network and just set it to regular GSM or CDMA (depending on your provider, mine was CDMA) in Settings > More settings > mobile networks > network mode.
I also went into Settings > Application Manager. Scrolled towards the right to the 'All' tab. Went into the apps I dont use and unchecked 'show notifications' box, and also cleared cache. Also, I disabled Samsung Account, Samsung Backup Provider, and Samsung Cloud Data relay.
Then after that, I went to Settings > Backup and reset , and I unchecked Backup my data, and automatic restore.
I'm still testing. My wakelocks are still really really high. About 130/hour. I'll let you guys know more if I find anything else.
UPDATE: I let my S3 sit on my night table all night unplugged. The battery went from 95% to 91%. My android system went from
35-45% usage down to 6-8%. average 0.5%/hour battery drain in standby. Android system is still giving me wakelocks though, approx.
60/hour in standby. But when I checked betterbatterystats, the deep sleep was activated the whole time, and not partially wakelocked.
I really hope this helps you guys. Ill try turning on some of the apps today to try and pinpoint exactly where this battery drain is coming
from.

Searching using GPS... the source?

This is driving me nuts!!! Since a few days ago every time I'm away from home at work, I get GPS blinking notification with ongoing message of "Searching using GPS..." while it's draining my battery like crazy. I'm not a noob, My phone is very light on apps, Google Now is disabled, Google location service is disabled, only one weather app and I disabled using GPS in there. Tried using GSam Battery Monitor to see if I can narrow it down - no help. Switched from 4G to wifi, still nothing. Of course I can turn GPS off for a problem to go away since i only use GPS in the car. But the problem is that I had my Note 2 for 3+ months and never had this issue before. Plus, I haven't installed any new app in at least 2 months. No life wallpaper, no fancy widgets that drain your resource, no social medial connection what so ever. All stock, not rooted. Using Nova Prime launcher, and a few widgets like Smooth Calendar, Circle Launcher, Rings Digital Weather Clock (with weather disabled), Fast Boot widget, Widgetsoid, Zooper Widget, and Android Weaither (GPS disabled).
That all that I have. Any idea how to resolve this?
Maps. Look in my guide to minimize the drain caused by it. But the best solution is to disable gps.

Funny that I had all that map stuff disabled, and it was still searching for GPS. But as soon as I stepped outside of the building where I work - it stopped. So something was trying to update location through GPS and could lock into the signal, thus searching and draining battery. Only happens in the building where I work. I guess the easy solution is to toggle GPS on/off. But still, would be good to find a source of which app or service is doing that pinging...
Try better battery status

[Q] GPS is killing my battery...Started recently

Recently the GPS crosshairs icon flashes on my status bar like every 5 seconds then flips off...on and off, on and off all day. I know the simple fix would to be just to turn off gps, but again this just started happening recently. I always left my gps on all the time and the crosshairs icon would only flash when an app was using it, like in google maps or navigation. So I'm assuming it's an app that's using my gps in the background somewhere. How can I figure out what is using it?
Also, I've always kept my screen on the brightest setting with no problem regarding battery life. But I just looked in Settings>Battery and it shows that the screen is responsible for 80% of the battery, with no mention of gps. So, any ideas about what's going on with my battery?
Better battery stats will help you find what's causing the issue. Its a paid app on the play store, look for the picture of a battery and plus sign.

You can find BBB here for free for XDA users.
My suggestion is to look at your apps and see what has Location or GPS permissions (ie. Facebook/G+/4Square, Maps, old Latitude-type settings, anything the "checks you in",...).
It is an app that is broadcasting your position and initiating your GPS to trigger. Find the app and fix the problem.

[Q] HELP cell standby huge battery drain[tried each n everything prb still persists]

hey guys...
i have tried everything to stop the battery drain
switched to many different roms
under-clocked processor to 768mhz
set a black wallpaper
brightness set to minimal
did battery calibration
switched of all background processes and made sure no location seeking programs works.
used CPU spy, the cell does go to deep sleep
tried juice defender and deep sleep battery saver
but nothing seemed to work
phone locked on full charge drains 40 to 50% in night without using.
then after a few days later i restored everything and opened airplane mode and I went to sleep, in the morning the battery didn't went low a single percent. battery health is good as works really well on airplane mode.
i have low signal issues but i get text msgs and calls with no problems at all, and my explorer and s3 seems to perform well
my all type pf connectivity is off example: location access WiFi Bluetooth etc only gsm is working, i manually selected the network and set it to gsm only rather them auto from *#*#4636#*#*.
what shall i do??
i searched and tried many things from the internet.
i really want those calls i cant always be on airplane mode, the problem is 200% of the antenna draining juice to get more signals. please help.
is there any way to stop the battery drain or restricting the antenna to consume less juice?
PS:using cm10.1 by nightly version:19 Aug 13.
anyone??
one thing more i installed better battery stats it says
no or unknown signal
no data connection
and it is running continuously like since i installed betterbatterystats.
where can i get this bug?? or disable this service??
please give a detailed explanation.
There are a few good apps to try I use
battery mix (I think this is one of the best) and wakelock detector both from my the market.

Battery drain
I´m having same problems with my DHD, currently im using 4.2.2 Samsation (was it named like that but anyways 4.2.2). Without using phone it still drains 40% in few hours.. I got replacement battery from eBay and thought that would help but didnt help at all. I´ve tried different roms but would like to have newest roms without battery draining so much, so could someone share how to get it better?
And about changing radio, was there a possibility that you may brick ur device if installing wrong radio?
Thanks already!

as i mentioned bro the problem is purely regarding the network sucking down the battery my bluetooth gps wfi everything is turned off... i use 2g gsm only... if u put ur cell in airplane mode the battery doesnt goes down by a single percent. its gsm standyby sucking the battery.
and regarding the radio if u do it right and reasearch a little u wont brick it for sure. got my radio from here:http://www.icsforums.com/forum/showthread/26951
downloaded this zip and replaced the radio.img within the zip from above link.
http://www.4shared.com/zip/Q4NeZZpU/pd98img-dhd-radio_12656029_261.html
put the file on sd card root
booted in bootloader
that did the job.

yup there was nothing, no wakelocks etc i even underclocked my processor to 768mhz... the thing is the signal reception cause when i turn the cell in airplane mode and leave it over night the battery doesnt goes down a single percent. it acts solid.
i get around 18 asu signals at my place i check it from *#*#4636#*#*
but the thing is i was using an HTC explorer before switching to desire hd and with the gsm mode(no airplane mode) the battry stayed solid like the desire hd one with airplane mode(didnt dropped a single percent) at the same house same place.
dont know what going on.

[Q] Google Services Draining Batery

Dear Community!!!
So Days ago i upgrade my Xperia ZL to kit kat, everithing ok a couple days, fantastic.....but, was suddenly my phone without battery, the problem? google play service was draining the 85% to my battery. When i upgrade to 4.3 firmeware i had the same trouble and then i maked to flash again. Also, this time i just did a factory reset and then everithing ok a couple days... but again, suddenly, google play service is draining all life to my phone...So, somebody knows whats the problem anda what can i do (whitout flashing again)... thanks buddies
The issue is a location wakelock, there are two ways around it disable location if you don't use it, or disable Google now.
If you are rooted, u can uninstall the Google search app from system and reinstall it from play store

you have an option in settings to disable location
since you are rooted, look for "wakelock detector" and "disable service" in play store,
'wakelock detector' will tell you what apps or services are causing it, and then u can disable that particular service using the 'disable service' app
Thanks a lot

I discovered something else.
I reinstalled my Phone again with Android 4.4.2. I installed all my apps. Using the Google Now Launcher.
Batterie consumptions seems normal. I see wake locks but acceptable.
But when driving to home from work I used Avertinoo (A radar notifying application that uses GPS). At home I closed the application. But suddenly I saw that the phone stays awake all the time. And Google Service is responsible for 86% of battery consumption.
Only solution, restart of the phone.
I did several test with this application. A short usage of the application does not seem to trigger the problem.
I did a test with Navigon (Navigation software) and I got the same problem.
So I think any application using the GPS for to long, will cause a problem with the Google service (endless loop due to time out ?).

Instead of disabling location, setting the location mode to "device only" was enough for me.

it's actually a wakelock, whenever an app requires the phone to be awake(say use gps) it sets a wakelock until some condition is satisfied(as u said endless loop), point is its not due to time out but some weird issue that is coming up with the google apps of our particular device....that's why a restart solves it or at times it may not occur for hours of usage of an app and next time it may occur after a minute.
the disabling of services or location is a temporary solution right now.
I tried to clean up all google apps in system and install the latest gapps and odex them.....until now i havent seen any battery issues(in fact usage is not even visible).....i'll report the findings after a fair usage so i can be sure if it does fix the issue.

you don't have to uninstall or install anything
just go to sittings\ security and disable Google reporting
that's all
a little update is coming
On PTCRB there is a new Version certified .233
Maybe this will fix the battery draining.
http://www.ptcrb.com/vendor/complete/view_complete_request_guest.cfm?modelid=22622
I was having this draining problem (happened out of nowhere, a full week after installing the 4.4.2 update).
Uninstalling Google Search and reinstalling it through the Play Store didn't worked (kept having Google Services draining more than 80%).
Setting Location mode to GPS-only didn't worked neither. Turning location off worked, but disabled my location-based apps, has expected.
What did worked for me was going to Setting -> Location-> Location Services (Google Location Report) and disabling both Location Report and Location History.
Now Google Services DOES NOT DRAIN more than 2% of my battery. CPU usage is always low (using CPU Spy Reborn, the 1512 MHz frequency step is pretty much around 2 - 3% of the time, as is the 1026 MHz frequency step - the remaining frequency steps are all at 0 - 1%, with 384 MHz (the lowest step) at 52% and Deep Sleep at 34% of the time).
All this with Location active on high-precision mode. Roughly 5h10min of usage (LTE always on), with PowerAmp playing for more than 4h straight, around 55min screen on and 15min or so of gaming (Zombie Gunship), and the battery is still at 72%.
With 4.3, with the same level of usage (moderate to heavy, I guess) the battery would absolutely be on the 60-65% range.
In other words, disabling both Location Report and Location History worked for me, with zero downsides with regards to location based apps (Google Maps, Waze and GPS Essentials all work perfectly).
Hope this helps. Best regards.
